Steps necessary change from wireless router to direct connection to the Imac

Want needs to be done to move from a wireless router to the modum direct to the computer, if currently using a wireless modum and router?

Right, I should have added that, thanks.

  • Wireless Router WRT54GS - One connection bumps the other computer off...

I've set up the Wireless Network using the direct console setup as specified by the instructions to set up via Cable Internet connection.
The wireless network seems to work fine, but the direct connection via Network cable the internet connection works for a little bit and then is bumped off. When I unplug the cable and then plug it back in, the PC connection works (for a time) but then I get a "conflict has occured with another computer on the network with the same ip" message. Eventually one of the computers is bumped off the connection. Is the redundant IP the problem, and if so, how can I fix this?
    Thanks, Zach

Well try upgrading the firmware of the router & keep on holding tightly the reset button in such a way that power light is blinking on the router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug in the power cable to the router & check out it will definately work!!

  • I have a Cisco/Linksys WRT-54G wireless router and 2 Airport Extremes (the small ones that plug directly into the wall). Is it possible to extend the network from the router using these two AEs? I have a DVD player and Ext HD plugged into the router too..

I have a Cisco/Linksys WRT-54G wireless router and 2 Airport Extremes (the small ones that plug directly into the wall). Is it possible to extend the network from the router using these two AEs? I have a DVD player and Ext HD plugged into the router too. Any ideas? I'm guessing the only way is to do what I've seen in these community pages which states that it can be done but it will drop the bandwidth by 50%. Thoughts?? Thanks!

The Cisco/Linksys WRT-54G was one of the very few routers said to be compatible with Apple's implementation of WDS (Wireless Distribution System) settings.
The info that I have on file indicates that only the WRT-54G versions 4 and under were compatible, so that would be one bridge to cross.
Even if you find that your Cisco/Linksys might be the right version, Apple never published instructions on how to configure the Express devices with other manufactures, so users were left to their own devices to try to figure out how to get things working. Apple's instructions to connect to other Apple devices are in the link below:
    WDS network
If you were hoping to use 2 Express devices in this type of configuration...even if it works...the bandwidth penalties will be extremely severe.
The first Express drops the bandwidth (and speed) on the entire network in half and the second halves everything again. So, the result, in effect would be a "g" wireless network running at 25% speed. Few users would consider installing this type of network.
At this point, it becomes one of those things where the fact that you might be able to do something does not mean that there would be much value in doing so. But, it is your decision to decide if you want to try to proceed.

  • I copied all my CD's onto a hard drive.  Can I transfer each CD from the hard drive to my iPhone either wirelessly or by direct connection?

I copied all my CD's onto a hard drive.  Can I transfer each CD from the hard drive to my iPhone either wirelessly or by direct connection?  Do I have to make a playlist for each cd and then transfer it to my iPhone?

When you buy your new iMac you will be able to have the installation process transfer all your applications, data (including music, pictures, documents, etc) and settings to your new computer. In the past that was done via Firewire. I'm not entirely sure of the process with the new iMacs that don't have firewire. I think it can be done via ethernet and probably via tha thunderbolt cord using a firewire adapter but you'll want to check that out.
With the your new computer properly connected to your old computer, the initial booting of the new computer will include the ability to move everything over.
If for some reason you don't want to do that (smart if you have some horrible software issue that is causing problems) you can connect your old computer to the new one and start it in Target Disk mode where it will be seen as a hard drive. You can then manually copy over all your music and import that into iTunes (and any other data you want).
Somebody here will surely point you to directions for connecting an older iMac with no Thunderbolt to a newer iMac with no Firewire.

  • How to set up 6th Generation AirPort Extreme to cable modem as a wireless router and then connect my 3rd Generation Time Capsule to AirPort Extreme as a wireless extender?

What is the best way to set up my 6th Generation AirPort Extreme (A1521) to my cable modem as a wireless router and then connect my 3rd Generation Time Capsule (A1355) to my AirPort Extreme as a wireless extender? I live in a small 1 story house and I currently have the Airport Extreme connected to my cable modem in the living room and the Time Capsule plugged into the wall in my bedroom. I am able to wirelessly connect to the internet using the AirPort Extreme as my router and I can also do wireless back ups to my Time Capsule. My problem is that my connection seems to be really slow! My 1TB Time Capsule back up is only half way complete and it has been 3 days! My computer has been backing up all day and night for almost 72 hours and its still not even 75% complete. I have backed up to this Time Capsule in the past and it never took this long. I am thinking that when I set up my AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule using AirPort Utility I must have set it up incorrectly or something.
How do I set up my Airport Extreme and Time Capsule for the fastest possible internet speed and back up speed?
    Thank you,

AirPort Utility 5.6 works with AirPort Extreme 802.11g base stations.
It works with N version airports.
It will also show details of the AC model but cannot be used for the setup.. mostly.
I purposely got the new 6th Gen Airport Extreme so my internet connection would be a lot faster!
Your network will be much faster when you have AC client directly connected to the AE. Older client will go no faster.. but what is worse.. extend wireless is mixing new and old wireless standards.. guess what one wins.. OLD.. So when you extend wireless.. you have no improvement whatsoever. This whole post is about extending wireless.. so you cannot extend to older equipment and do any better.. maybe slightly better signal although from your comments that isn't happening either.
I would rather not have to use an ethernet at all with the TC and I don't know EOP adapters are!
If you do not use ethernet then you are going to be forced to accept slow speed.
EOP (ethernet over power). Also called homeplug in the US.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HomePlug
Provides a method of networking over power cabling that already exists in your house.
So what your saying is for the fastest internet speed and back up speed possible I should keep my Airport Extreme plugged into my Modem and keep my TC set up as a wireless extender? Then when I want to do back ups I should plug an ethernet cable from my TC to my MacBook Pro?
    To spell this out.
A wireless link to an extended device will go very slowly.. if it is not direct.
So lets say you have a laptop sitting in the lounge.. Your connection goes.. Laptop- - - - - AE- - - - -TC.
That means two wireless links.. wireless has this nasty half duplex and single channel nature.. it can send or receive (Tx or Rx) but not at the same time.
Ethernet by contrast does both at once. It is full duplex.
Wireless can talk to one client at a time.. so if there are multiple items using wireless lets say 4 devices.. then your computer gets a 25% time slice. Since wireless cannot handle multiple simultaneous connections.
Ethernet by contrast can connect multiple computers to multiple destinations at the same time.. all transmitting and receiving at full speed.
When you put all this together.. there are a couple of rules for fast connection.
    1. Use ethernet at all times. Where you cannot use ethernet use anything but wireless.. eg EOP (homeplug) at least to try and get rid of wireless.
    2. Where you must use wireless use it sparingly and make sure it is never more than one hop.. ie never have an extend wireless (repeater is more usual term). Repeater will cause instant slowdown of 50% and maybe up to 75% just because it is so inefficient.
    3. Fastest wireless is 5ghz but it has very short range.. you need to be up close and personal to get it working.
Apple routers however unless you do manual setup I suggest are set to connect to best signal strength not best speed. It will therefore use 2.4ghz at 25% less speed than 5ghz because it is 1db better signal.. this madness means you need to setup manually for the best setup.

What do you mean it did not work!  What were the results of the diagnostic tests?
Have you contacted your ISP to determine if the problem is on their end?
Have you changed your router channel?  Sometimes this resolves wireless problems.

  • WRT54GS wireless router can't connect to internet

I'm now using an WRT160N wireless router, everything is ok, nothing happens
i have an  WRT54GS (ver 6) wireless router that i have not used for 2 years.
yesterday i took the WRT54GS out of the junk box, and replaced the WRT160N by the WRT54GS
i have a desktop that is wired & a wireless lap top. my desktop does recognise the local network and my laptop does receive the signal but the my router can't connect to the internet.
    i did try everything:
    reset
    upgrade firmware
    but nothing worked
can someone help. my ISP is comcast and this is my modem http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and-Services/Cable-Modems-and-Gateways/SURF...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Bypass the router and connect the main computer directly to the modem.
Make sure that you can access the Internet on your main computer directly through the modem.
Connect the modem to the Internet port and main computer to the Ethernet port on the router.
Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure it manually.
Follow this link to configure the router with CABLE Internet service.

The discs that come with your Mac are "machine specfic" and cannot be used on another Mac.

  • I just purchased an Apple TV.  I have a pc running windows 7.  It is connected to a router and the router is connected to a wireless router.  I connect my iPhone, iPad and apple tv to wireless network but do not know how to put the pc on the wifi network

I just purchased an Apple TV.  I have a pc running windows 7.  It is connected to a router and the router is connected to a wireless router.  I connect my iPhone, iPad and apple tv to wireless network but do not know how to put the pc on the wifi network so the Apple TV can do home share.

I don't mean to be facetious but sometimes the simplest things are overlooked.  To connect to your library you have to have the computer where the iTunes library is located running and with iTunes open.  It also needs to be on the same network.  My network is dual band and works with either stream but a friend of mine does not.  He has to set the computer and the Apple TV to the same band.  Hope this helps.

  • Can I change from hard cover to soft cover after the book is designed?

Can I change from hard cover to soft cover after the iphoto book is desgned?

Yes,  Just go to the View all pages window and click on the Change Theme button.  There you will be able to switch size and type of cover.  HOWEVER, just to be on the safe side make a copy of the book beforehand by clicking on it and typing Command+D (duplicate).  Sometimes some of the text might be lost.  It's a possiblity but I've never had it happen.

Thanks, Ronda! I haven't been able to try your suggestion because I fried my router! So I need to get a new wireless router before proceeding.
(I may start a new thread about getting a new router, but I will look for answers first to my questions and only start one if I cannot find answers.)
After I get a new router, I will try what you suggested and report back here.

  • NB200 Can connect to wireless networks, but cannot connect to the internet

I have been able to connect my Win XP netbook to my secure wireless network at home, other people's networks and public networks like the library and McDonalds. This week I'm away from home and discovered that while I can still connect to a number of different wireless networks, I cannot connect to the internet using Internet Explorer.
I've had this problem once before and fixed it by reinstalling Windows XP and all my other software. I have no idea why it has happened again. I'm hoping for a less drastic solution to the problem..?

    Hi Nakia,
    > I cannot connect to the internet using Internet Explorer.
Have you tested other browsers like Mozilla Firefox and does this work?
As MasterG wrote try to renew the IP address using the commend line.
Last week I had a similar problem and I could solve it by updating the WLAN driver. Just remove the driver, restart the notebook and install the newest one. :)

  • How can I import photo's from an older iPod to my new iMac ? I can do "import" in iPhoto, but the system does not "see" my iPod, even if it is connected to the iMac

I bought a new iMac. All photo's from the old iMac are on my iPod. The old iMac had a problem, due to which I could not transfer photo's. So I am trying to import the photo's from my iPod to my new iMac. But this does not work. The new iMac suggests to replace the content of the iPod with the content of the iMac, but I want to do just the reverse. When the iPod is connected to the iMac, the iMac seems to ignore the iPod. Probably because the iPod was first used on the old iMac ?

Photos on the iPod are not stored in standard formats, but in formats that are optimised for the space annd screen size of the device. So, unless you have specifically chosen to save full size images on the iPod - and have set up disk access for the job - then it's not going to work.
There are apps that will recover photos from iPods. Have a search on MacUpdate
But the best solution is to get the pics from your old Mac somehow.
