Could anybody pls tell the steps involved in making a jar file run using Java Web Start.

    I had no problem with my application .i have a swing based client application that connects to JBoss Application Server to connect to Session Beans, JDO,etc. IT works fine. You need to distribute JBoss-all-client.jar.

  • Deploying no java applications using Java Web Start

    Hi,
    I am new to java web start. Is it possible to distribute non java applications using java web start. I have an APP which can run on a desktop in standalone mode. The app has jusy HTML and Java script files. Is it possible to package this app and deploying using java web start? I am assuming If it is possible, I can make updates to the packaged app in the web servers and the updates will be downloaded next time the app is used provided configurations are correct?

    while this HTML/JS app. will (I guess) not work from
    inside the depths of a Jar (or Zip) archive.
    Note that you can organise for those files to be
    downloaded and expanded onto a known place
    on the user's disk, by using an 'installer' element,
    but..
    ...I am assuming If it is possible, I can make updates to the
    packaged app in the web servers and the updates ..installers are only called once, and do not 'update'.

    I wanted to run an application using Java Web Start. So, I created a jnlp file and i have mentioned the necessary jar files and the main class file. when I clicked on the jnlp file, the application is running in the Server using Java Web Start and its shortcuts are creates on the desktop and in the startmenu. I am able to run the application by clicking on the shortcut in the server. But I am unable to Download the application in the Java Web Start. It is not showing any Error Messages and the application is not running in the cleint machines.

    If webstart in not actually downloading the jar - is the jar in the correct location?
    Is the server named dev01 and the directory structure actually /Dummy/New?
    Note: you do need to set up the mine type JNLP on your server,
    In my case the location of the JNLP file and main jar file passport is in the following directory.
    c:\Inetpub\WIMRoot\application
    The additional jars are in
    c:\Inetpub\WIMRoot\application

    Please post the information from the Web Start "Exception" and "Wrapped Exception" tabs when the error occurs (I assume the error was in fact unexpected ;-)
    A blind stab in the dark would be that you don't have write permission to the cache directory on the second machine. Also worth checking that the proxy settings on the second machine are the same as the first (if they are on the same network).

  • How to get access to the local file system when running with Web Start

    I'm trying to create a JavaFX app that reads and writes image files to the local file system. Unfortunately, when I run it using the JNLP file that NetBeans generates, I get access permission errors when I try to create an Image object from a .png file.
    Is there any way to make this work in Netbeans? I assume I need to sign the jar or something? I tried turning "Enable Web Start" on in the application settings, and "self-sign by generated key", but that made it so the app wouldn't launch at all using the JNLP file.

    Same as usual as with any other web start app : sign the app or modify the policies of the local JRE. Better sign the app with a temp certificate.
    As for the 2nd error (signed app does not launch), I have no idea as I haven't tried using JWS with FX 2.0 yet. Try to activate console and loggin in Java's control panel options (in W7, JWS logs are in c:\users\<userid>\appdata\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\log) and see if anything appear here.
    Anyway JWS errors are notoriously not easy to figure out and the whole technology in itself is temperamental. Find the tool named JaNeLA on the web it will help you analyze syntax error in your JNLP (though it is not aware of the new syntax introduced for FX 2.0 and may produce lots of errors on those) and head to the JWS forum (Java Web Start & JNLP Andrew Thompson who dwells over there is the author of JaNeLA).

    I used janela to validate the generated jnlp file. It was valid. I also checked the tomcat access log, it showed that the Test-1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar file was accessed correctly (with a 200 return code).

    I got a different problem. My Corba application works in JRE 1.6, but doesn't works in JRE 1.5.X. I got an unexpected error and my console shows:

    I have been running an application using Jboss3.2 in JDK1.4.2_09. The Java Web Start application ran perfectly then.

    You appear to be using a 1.4.x program on a file belonging to 1.5. Check your path variable, it's probably the cause.

You don't run the JVM, the JVM has implementations for specific operating systems. So that is your criteria: it must be able to run such an OS. Once you have that, you can install the Java runtime on it.
    Generally that will be a laptop/netbook which can be transformed into a tablet by turning the screen. Check your favorite computer web shop for possibilities, there are a few. Not really a Java question anymore either.

    It happens the same under Windows 7 and Linux -using openJRE and icedtea as substitution of Java Web Start-.
    I'm behind a proxy. In my browser -Chrome, IE and FF- putted the info of the proxy and I can browse. Aldo tried to put the info in the Java "Network Settings". It did not work -the launching of the console-.
    I installed the last Java Web Start in Windows 7 -Java7 Update5-. I disabled my anti-virus and firewall. Always the same result.
    Could you help me please. I don't have idea of what is going on.

    PD: I tested from other machines of the company and it works. So, I guess is my laptop. I exported the oracle certificates from those machine and imported them into mine.

  • XSL Transformation won't run in Web Start

    Hello,
    I am using the javax.xml.transform.Transformer implementation built into Java 1.5.x to transform an XML document into HTML using an XSLT transformation source. This code works perfectly if I run the app outside of Java Web Start. However, if I run the app in web start, the output is partial. More specifically, the XML and the XSLT load just fine in web start (I've confirmed this), but the end result of the Transformation is a properly formatted HTML document with only part of the data -- a bunch of data is missing.
    I have some loops in the XSLT that print out rows in an HTML table with the data I want to see. These loops don't seem to run when I'm in web start, but the rest of the transformation does run.
    I've confirmed this is not working on both Mac OS and Windows, version 1.5.0_06 and 1.5.0_09. So I don't think it is a bug on any particular platform. I am totally stumped by this. The XSL transformation process is doing something different in web start than it does when run from the command line (either different jars are in play, or system properties are different, etc).
    Has anyone else experienced this?

    One thing I'd like to mention...
    My XML document has no namespace defined, and neither does my XSLT transform document. I am just referencing plain old string element names that simply match between the XML and XSLT. This all works fine when the Transform is run from a java app that is started on the command line. Things break down when the app is run via Java Web Start. Could the namespace issue be the problem, however? I don't see how that could be as the code works from a 'normal' java app, but maybe I'm missing something.

    I am using Tomcat 5.5 and Jdk 1.5.0_12 and Oracle 10g. I am using jdbc-odbc bridge connection
    to connect to the database. I have placed my project folder called

    I have set the context path to /tdm in the server.xml file. Should this be placed in context.xml?
    My first page in the project is called Homepage.html. To start my project I give http://localhost:5050/tdm/homepage.html
    in a browser. Here I accept a username and password from the user and then do the validation in
    a valid.jsp file, where I connect to the database and check and use jsp:forward to go to next pages
    accordingly. However when I enter the username and password and click Go in the homepage, nothing is
    displayed on the next page. The URL in the browser says valid.jsp but a blank screen appears.
    WHY DOES IT HAPPEN SO? DOES IT MEAN THAT TOMCAT IS NOT RECOGNIZING JAVA IN MY SYSTEM OR IS IT A PROBLEM
    WITH THE DATABASE CONNECTION OR SOMETHING ELSE? I FEEL THAT TOMCAT IS NOT EXECUTING JSP COMMANDS?
    IS IT POSSIBLE?WHY WILL THIS HAPPEN?
    I set the JAVA_HOME and CATALINA_HOME environment to the jdk and tomcat folders resp.
    Is there any other thing that I need to set in classpath? Should I have my project as a
    WAR file in the webapps of TOMCAT or just a folder i.e. directory structure will fine?

    I am using Tomcat 5.5 and Jdk 1.5.0_12 and Oracle 10g. I am using jdbc-odbc bridge connection
    to connect to the database. I have placed my project folder called
    tdm under the webapps folder in Tomcat. This 'tdm' folder consists of
    a collection of html pages,jsp pages and images of my project. Also I created a
    WEB-INF folderand in that I have lib folder which contains catalina-root.jar
    , classes12.jar and nls_charset.jar files. And also in the WEB-INF folder I have the web.xml
    file which looks like this

    replicationMode = can be either 'pooled', 'synchronous' or 'asynchronous'.
    * Pooled means that the replication happens using several sockets in a synchronous way. Ie, the data gets replicated, then the request return.     I have set the context path to /tdm in the server.xml file. Should this be placed in context.xml?
    My first page in the project is called Homepage.html. To start my project I give http://localhost:5050/tdm/homepage.html
    in a browser. Here I accept a username and password from the user and then do the validation in
    a valid.jsp file, where I connect to the database and check and use jsp:forward to go to next pages
    accordingly. However when I enter the username and password and click Go in the homepage, nothing is
    displayed on the next page. The URL in the browser says valid.jsp but a blank screen appears.
    WHY DOES IT HAPPEN SO? DOES IT MEAN THAT TOMCAT IS NOT RECOGNIZING JAVA IN MY SYSTEM OR IS IT A PROBLEM
    WITH THE DATABASE CONNECTION OR SOMETHING ELSE? I FEEL THAT TOMCAT IS NOT EXECUTING JSP COMMANDS?
    IS IT POSSIBLE?WHY WILL THIS HAPPEN?
    I set the JAVA_HOME and CATALINA_HOME environment to the jdk and tomcat folders resp.
    Is there any other thing that I need to set in classpath? Should I have my project as a
    WAR file in the webapps of TOMCAT or just a folder i.e. directory structure will fine?

  • Images are not coming out when application running through jar file.

    I have written an application program using j2sdk1.4.1 that needs your help.
    My application folder's contents.....................
         C:\Examination\Examination.class <-----This is the main class and application's entry point.
         C:\Examination\ExamBox.class
         C:\Examination\PaperSetterBox.class
         C:\Examination\pspBox.class
         C:\Examination\epBox.class
         C:\Examination\TimerBox.class
         C:\Examination\ReportCardBox.class
         C:\Examination\HelpBox.class
         C:\Examination\AboutBox.class
         C:\Examination\Images\(some jpg & gif files)
         C:\Examination\Sounds\(some au files)
    Compilation Report:     There was no error.
    Execution Report :     Was working properly using the command:- java Examination
    Now, I created a jar file for my application in the following steps.................................
              STEP-1:          Firstly, I created a text file(mainclassInfo.txt) that contains
              the line:--     Main-Class: Examination
              This line would be automatically added to the default manifest file when I would include the                name of that text file with the command to create the jar file.
              Location of the text file I created:     C:\mainClassInfo.txt
              STEP-2:          Then I went to C:\Examination and executed the following command(by using                'Command prompt'):--------------------------------------------------------------------
    jar cmf C:\mainClassInfo.txt Examination.jar Examination.class ExamBox.class PaperSetterBox.class pspBox.class epBox.class TimerBox.class ReportCardBox.class HelpBox.class AboutBox.class Images Sounds
    Finally, I got the jar file:-     Examination.jar
    Double clicking on it application ran as it was expected.
    Then, I thought, that as all the files & folders the application needed to run properly were packaged in the jar file; I should delete all the contents of the folder 'Examination', so that no one could see or use anything of the resources easily. I did that.
    So, then it became only:-- C:\Examination\Examination.jar
    Thereafter, I tried to run the application again and there a problem occurred! The application was running, but the images, those were to be used and shown by the application were missing somehow!!
    Moreover, when I kept a copy of those 2 folders('Images' and 'Sounds') into the C:\Examination and ran the application again all the images came out normally!
    I just can't understand why it's happening so mysterious?
    I don't want to leave anything of the resources in an open place; I mean, outside of the jar file. The images should be used and shown by the application.
