Steps to export iPhotos to external HD

steps to export iPhotos to external HD, please ?   thanx

Very vague question...
There's no such thing as "iPhotos". There's an iPhoto app, there's an iPhoto Library, the Library contains photos.
You can move the Library to an external drive.
You can export individual photos from the Library to an external.
But what you want to do is not clear.
To move the Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
To export the Photos:
File -> Export

How do I with a full hard drive export my iphotos (20000) in events to an external hard drive?

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

  • Exporting iPhoto to external hard disc -

I copied my iPhoto images to a new external HD. If I then remove an image from my laptop iPhoto it also is removed from the external HD - and from the Library6.iPhoto.
I notice in another answer it was advised to copy the whole iPhoto Library folder to the external and then remove all images on laptop to trash once copies were on External. If I did this I would have no pictures at all! Should this happen?
In my pictures folder there are only iPhoto Library and library6.iPhoto there is no iPhoto Library folder. When I search there is a data and an originals folder but they are not in any other folder.
    What do you suggest?

    Judy:
Do you still have the original library in your Pictures folder? If so, launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, select the "Choose Library" option. Navigate to the external HD and select the iPhoto Library that you copied there. Verify that you have all of your photos in that library and it is running correctly. Once you do you can delete the library that's in your Pictures folder.
NOTE: The iPhoto LIbrary is now a UNIX style package and contains all of the folders and files that were in the iPhoto 6 library folder.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>

iPhoto->:File->Export…. BTW, iPhoto and OS version would help; whereas, iOS version doesn't.

    You need to explain
The technically correct answer to your statement (there is no actual question) is to select the photos in iPhoto  you want to export and export (file menu ==> export) selecting the EHD as the destination
My guess is that you may want something different. But since I can not read your mind that is it without more information

  • Exporting iphoto album to external hard drive.

    Hello,
I'm trying to export an iphoto album to an external hard drive that shows up on the left side (side bar) of finder. If I copy and paste the album, the pictures are rearranged.
Is there a way to drag and drop the album directly into the external hard drive?
Side question: Is there a way to add iphoto or imovie to the side bar of Finder under 'places'?
If there is, it seems this would be an easy way to access a specific album in iphoto and directly drag and drop it from a listing in Finder to the external hard drive listed in Finder's side bar 'devices' category.
    Thanks

    PWpw:
First, you don't need to go into the iPhoto Library package to get access to your photos for use outside of iPhoto. Read Terence Devlin's treatise on file access. It has all you need to know.
The pictures, when exported to the external HD, are viewed using the Finder and can only be viewed by title or date. If you want your photos to be in a particular order, you will need to rename them in iPhoto using the Photos->Batch Rename-Title to Text with the sequential numbering box selected. Then export them to the EHD using the File->Export->File Export menu option with the option to use the title as the new file name. You photos will then be in the order you want when viewed alphanumerically in the Finder.

  • How to: copys pics from iphoto to external hard drive to share

I scanned about 10,000 historical family photos into iphoto, and now I'd like to gift each of my siblings with a copy of the entire group of photos on a portable memory/storage device. I have chosen to use a portable (external) hard drive (called the LACIE "little disk") so the images will be reliably safe in storage and yet remain easily accessible to the user.
I've never done this before and would be so grateful for any instruction. I'm a little too intimidated to wing-it with a project this big and important to me.
What are the steps to export the entire group to an external hard drive?
One of my siblings uses a PC, and another uses a Mac....does that make a difference?
My thought is that I just have to
    1. create new folder on desktop
    2. go into iphoto, "select" the pics from the LIBRARY>PHOTOS that I want to share
    3. transfer to the newly created folder on my desktop
    4. drag the folder to the Lacie drive (already formatted for PC and/or Mac).
    5. all done!
Is it that simple?? (please say yes). If so, How do I check to verify the pics are readable (openable?) on the hard drive?
Thank you for your time and your patience...and of course, your expertise!

** To clarify, I have FIVE siblings so I will be making FIVE individual transfers...I bought FIVE "LUCIE" hard drives....I reread my entry and I didn't want to confuse anyone about that detail. Only one of hard drives will be used by a PC person, the others will each be for MAC users.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Here's how I would proceed:
1 - for the PC users leave the formatting of the hard drive as FAT 32 (most come that way). If it's formatted for Macs then reformat it as FAT 16 (Macs can't format 32). For the Mac users make sure the format is OS X Extended (journaled).
2 - Add a folder to each little disk.
3 - in iPhoto select the photos you want to send and use the File->Export->File Export menu option. Select the following options: Kind: Original; JPEG Quality: Maximum; Size: Full Size; File Name: whatever of the options you want. If any of the original file names are the same you'll need to use the Sequential option so all the files will have a different file name.
4 - hit the Export button and select the folder on the little disk as the destination.
Do the above for each of the little disks to use used.

  • I am having trouble keeping the quality of my video when exporting to my external drive.  I change the kind to "original" but when I view the video from the external drive once exported, the sound and picture are distorted.

I am having trouble keeping the quality of my video when exporting to my external hard drive.  I have tried to export from iphoto with changing kind to "original" but when I open the video from the external drive the quality is effected.  I have also tried copying the video to my desktop and then dragging and dropping onto the drive...same problem. Any suggestions?  I would like to save everything to my external drive so that I can delete all of iphoto library and then reimport to correct a few things.

The file sizes are identical.  In the finder I did a search for all .mov files.  Then when they came up, I went through them and named each one so that they would be easier to find.  I am a new mac user and am used to windows.  I realized later that I should not have done this....with a mac files should be named within iphoto app...not finder....When I went to open the videos in iphoto, it wouldn't allow me.  I had to go into finder, copy to desktop and reimport into iphoto.  Then the videos worked again.  However, I had the problem with the poor video quality when copied to external drive before that.  Actually the first problem I had was when I copied to ext drive...videos were copying as an image...so I learned that you have to change "kind" to original before exporting....then that problem was solved...now they are videos, not images but not of a great quality.  Skips, sound and images are not in sync...etc...

  • Managing photo storage on my iPhone/iPhoto/Pictures/External Hard-drive

Hello, I need some help with managing photo storage on my iPhone/iPhoto/Pictures/External Hard-drive.
    Background:
I have 1,200 photos/videos on my iPhone 4S on the camera roll and need to delete them to save space. Most are photos/videos of my new baby which I would be devastated to lose, so I want to be 110% sure that I have them backed up properly and accessible.
I frequently hook my iPhone up to iPhoto to download all of the latest photos to iPhoto.
I have done Time Machine back ups and just did a latest one yesterday.
I would like to save my camera roll into a folder on my hard-drive so that all of these photos are in one place in case I need to access them (and not spread across different folders like in iPhoto).
My Mac (Macbook Pro - circa 2009) is now telling me that my 'Starter Disc is nearly full' and won't save all of the photos from my camera roll.
    My questions;
Are photos stored both in iPhoto and Pictures folder, and if so are they duplicates?
I've heard that Time Machine only backs up full libraries and so cannot be used to access individual photos - is this true? If so, how do you access individual photos/files from my external hard-drive?
How and where should I delete older photos from to save space on my Mac - iPhoto or Pictures? (once I know how to access them from my external drive if needed).
How do I delete all of my photos from my iPhone camera roll in one go? - I can only see a way to delete the 1,200 of them individually.
Going forward where is the best place for me to synch/upload my photos for medium term storage/access on my Mac?
I would consider myself quite intelligent but when it comes to this topic, I'm happy to be spoken to in very simplistic terms!
    Thank you.

Import the photos to iPhoto - then select the photos in iPhoto and export (file menu ==> export) to the desired location

  • How to export photo to external hard drive?  (time capsule 3t)?

cant find photo in hard drive. where does iphoto store photo? i looked for the foler everwhere....

how to export photo to external hard drive?  (time capsule 3t)?
Simple - launch iPhoto, select the phtoos and export (file menu ==> export) to the destination of yoru choice - see the user tip onexporting for details on the export optiopns - https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/iphoto?view=documents
However is the Time Capsule being used for Time Machine backups? If it is do not use it as an external drive too - it needs to be dedicated to one use only
cant find photo in hard drive. where does iphoto store photo? i looked for the foler everwhere....
And this is a totally different question - by default in your iPhoto library - and to access then see the user tip on accessing yoru iPhoto files - https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/iphoto?view=documents
You never access them directly - always using the supported access methods

  • Exporting iPhoto library as a regular folder to be opened on PC

    Hi everyone!
I am wondering how to export iPhoto library to external drive as a normal folder with jpeg files to be opened also on PC (no iPhoto app). Do you have any ideas?
    Cheers!

If you export with Kind=Original you retain your Created date, Modified date, Latitude and Longitude.  You lose all edits and a Description field.
That's what the Original means. No added metadata, no edits.
If you export with Kind=jpeg the Created and Modified dates are set to the export date, you lose the location data, but you retain a Description field.
The Created and Modified dates are correct for that file. There are two kinds of metadata involved when you consider jpeg or other image file.
One is the file data. This is what the Finder shows. This tells you nothing about the contents of the file, just the File itself.
The problem with File metadata is that it can easily change as the file is moved from place to place or exported, e-mailed, uploaded etc.
Photographs have also got both Exif and IPTC metadata. The date and time that your camera snapped the Photograph is recorded in the Exif metadata. Regardless if what the file date says, this is the actual time recorded by the camera.
Photo applications like iPhoto, Aperture, Lightroom, Picasa, Photoshop etc get their date and time from the Exif metadata.
When you export from iPhoto to the Finder new file is created containing your Photo (and its Exif). The File date is - quite accurately - reported as the date of Export.
However, the Photo Date doesn't change.
The problem is that the Finder doesn't work with Exif.
So, your photo has the correct date, and so does the file, but they are different things. To sort on the Photo date you'll need to use a photo app.
Also you don't lose any metadata - including the location material - if you choose the correct export settings
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
You can check this by taking one picture and export it both ways to your desktop and check the Get Info fields.
The Get Info facility in the Finder refers only to File Metadata and not to the Photo metadata at all.

    Hi,
I need the steps to export the oracle 10g database from AIX server to AIX server and LINUX server.
Please give me all the steps as this is my first exort an import activity.
    thanks,

For 10g there exist two ways to do so.
    1) Regular exp/imp.
    2) Data pump expdp/impdp.
As this is your first export and import activity, relevant concept understanding is mandatory for you.
