Steps to set up my domain with Apache

Hello,
I would like to know the steps to set up my domain with Apache including the use of DNS Services. I have DNS services (http://www.dnsexit.com) . I just don't know where to begin with it adding my domain. I've already went  to my preferences>>sharing>> web sharing and turned it on. My domain host is netfirms. I have an actiontec model- m1424-wr  router  and I have a verizon fios wireless connection that's always on. I've been doing my research on this. I'm just stuck on this part. However is it true that php/mysql is pre-installed on Mac osx 10.6? I hope I can get help. Thank you in advance.

Your description is somewhat incomplete. I assume that dnsexit.com provides dynamic DNS and that you registered a domain name with NetFirms (you say "domain host", but I presume that you just registered the domain name and they aren't actually hosting it; hosting means that your web site is on their computers instead of yours). I'll also assume that you mean that you intend to run a web server on your Mac through your FiOS connection (not a great idea, and potentially a violation of FiOS' terms of service unless you bought their commercial plan).
If all of those assumptions are correct, you need to:
1. Contact NetFirms and tell them to point your domain to DNSExit's name servers: ns1.dnsExit.com and ns2.dnsExit.com and ns3.dnsExit.com and ns4.dnsExit.com
2. After step 1 is complete, you need to install a dynamic DNS update client on a computer in your network that will always be on (DNSExit has them and installation and set-up instructions). These programs will periodically check the IP address of your network and, if it changes, will update the record at DNSExit so that sites can find it. Note that you are using FiOS so the IP address of your router is expected to change periodically; this works around that. Your router has 2 IP addresses: the WAN is the IP address exposed to the world through your FiOS connect, and the LAN, which is an address local to your home network.
3. Login to your ActionTEC router as the adminsitrator. You can do this through your web browser. The LAN IP address of the router is the gateway address indicated in the Network preference pane for your ethernet connection. The modem documentation tells you the default password for the router (make sure to change it).
Perform the following tasks on the router (though the advanced options, you'll want to poke around to find them):
a. check the DHCP address ranges (usually it says that it will give out IP addresses from 192.168.1.100-192.168.1.200 or similar). Note it down. You're going to want to give the computer that acts as the web server a static IP address outside that range.
b. Choose an address outside the DHCP range that isn't already in use and write it down. This will be the static IP addres you will set on your web server.
c. Locate the Firewall/NAT settings on the router and add a rule to forward traffic on ports 80 and 443 to the IP address you had chosen.
4. On the computer that will be the web server, start web-sharing.
5. Go to the network preferences and configure the static IP address that you selected. Use the same gateways and DNS settings that were assigned by DHCP.
... and that's it. If you performed all those steps properly, requests to your domain will be sent to your FiOS modem and forwarded on to the designated computer for a response.
PHP and Apache are preinstalled on the Mac. MySQL is not. You will need to download and install MySQL yourself.

  • Quick Question - Setting up Personal Domain with godaddy

    Hi there
    Just a quick question to make sure I've done this correctly?
    Ok, I've published my iWeb website.
    I've purchased a personal domain with godaddy.
    I've set up the personal domain in my mobile me account.
    I then logged into my godaddy account and went to 'Total DNS Control and MX Records'
    I changed the following under CNAME (Aliases)
    www web.me.com 1 Hour
    and then added a new CNAME Record
    www.*******.com web.me.com 1 Hour
    Have I done this all correctly?
    Will it take a few hours to take effect?
    Anything else I need to consider?
    Thanks for reading.
    Ross

    CNAME settings can take up to 24 hours to take effect.
    As long as you have forwarded your domain name to web.me.com, then it should be okay.

  • Servlet mapping with Apache + Tomcat

    I'm trying to set up my servlet with apache + Tomcat(3.2.3), and i'm using mod_jk as the Tomcat-Apache plug-in.
    The HelloWorld servlet that comes with the examples app worked fine at: http://localhost/examples/servlet/HelloWorldExample,
    but how do I change the configurations, so that it can be invoked at:
    http://localhost/examples/HelloWorldExample ?
    It appears to me that '/servlet/' is the default prefix for Tomcat's RequestInterceptor, there is no way to get around that.
    Any insights will be greatly appreciated, thanks!
    Elaine

    hi
    Try this:
    add below code in web.xml file in examples/WEB-INF
    F directory
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>
    HelloWorldExample
    </servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>
    /HelloWorldExample
    </url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    Thanks for the reply, the web.xml is already set up this way, in fact, I'm able to invoke the servlet through tomcat(running on port 8080): http://localhost:8080/examples/HelloWorldExample,
    tomcat reads the web.xml without any problems.
    The problem comes from Apache(port 80), http://localhost:80/examples/HelloWorldExample wouldn't work, only http://localhost:80/examples/servlet/HelloWorldExample works.
    It appears to me that when requests are relayed from Apache to tomcat, you need to tell tomcat that you intend to invoke a servlet by prefixing '/servlet/', if you look in the server.xml, it has
    <RequestInterceptor
    className="org.apache.tomcat.request.InvokerInterceptor"
    debug="0" prefix="/servlet/" />
    I've tried to change this to something else, it didn't seem to make any difference.

    how to delete multiple data domains with single step ?

    You can go to your Endeca-Server domain home e.g.($WEBLOGIC-HOME$/user_projects/domains/endeca_server_domain/EndecaServer/bin)
    run
    [HOST]$ ./endeca-cmd.sh list-dd
    default is enabled.
    GettingStarted is enabled.
    endeca is enabled.
    BikeStoreTest is enabled.
    create a new file from the output just with the domains that you want to delete and then create a loop
    [HOST]$ vi delete-dd.list
    default
    GettingStarted
    endeca
    BikeStoreTest
    [HOST]$ for i in $(cat delete-dd.list); do; ./endeca-cmd.sh delete-dd $i; done

  • Can i set up a purchased domain with iWeb?

    I made a website in iWeb. I have a domain purchased through google apps. my domain is jonahdelso.com.
    HOW CAN I CONNECT THE TWO? I thought I knew what I was doing, and now I realize that I might have made a mistake by purchasing a domain through google apps, because i don't know how to configure the domain to connect to the web.mac.com servers. ANY HELP? ANYONE?

    The use of a Personal domain is VERY extensively discussed in this forum and the [MobileMe Personal domain|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1163] forum.
    You MobileMe account also has a Help where it is explained. See picture below.
    iWeb is not involded in setting up your domain at Google. If you make mistakes then no doubt Google can help you mend it.
    For the record: you have to add a CNAME at your domain host. [Google has the FAQs|http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/search.py?query=cname&ctx=en%3Asearchb ox&Action.Search=SearchHelpCenter]

  • Svn with Apache Timeout issue

    Hello Archers,
    I've set up an svn Server with Apache folloing your wiki on my raspberry pi.
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/LAMP
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Subversion_Setup
    Unfortunately I get errors when I try to commit several files (15 or so). I think it is a timeout issue, however I don't know where to specify the timeout in the httpd.conf (or httpd-ssl.conf)
    This is a client error message:
    Commit failed (details follow):
    Unexpected end of svndiff Input
    And this the corresponding server side log:
    [date] [dav:error] [pid 448:tid 2854220848] (70007)The timeout specified has expired: [client 192.168.178.55:63819] Timeout reading the body (URI: /Dokumente/!svn/txr/9-q/Music/myfile.mp3) [408, #0]

    I assume it is some error like this: http://subversion.apache.org/faq.html#s … -truncated
    I think I don't have specified the timeouts correctly, since I haven't found the default option.
    tl:dr
    Do you know how to set the timeouts in the apache configuration file?
    I very much appreciate your help.

    # SSL_SERVER_CERT. These contain the PEM-encoded certificates of the
    # server (always existing) and the client (only existing when client
    # authentication is used). This can be used to import the certificates
    # into CGI scripts.
    # o StdEnvVars:
    # This exports the standard SSL/TLS related `SSL_*' environment variables.
    # Per default this exportation is switched off for performance reasons,

    # the SSL/TLS standard but is needed for some brain-dead browsers. Use
    # this when you receive I/O errors because of the standard approach where
    # mod_ssl sends the close notify alert.
    # o ssl-accurate-shutdown:
    # This forces an accurate shutdown when the connection is closed, i.e. a
    # SSL close notify alert is send and mod_ssl waits for the close notify
    # alert of the client. This is 100% SSL/TLS standard compliant, but in
    # practice often causes hanging connections with brain-dead browsers. Use
    # this only for browsers where you know that their SSL implementation
    # works correctly.
    # Notice: Most problems of broken clients are also related to the HTTP
    # keep-alive facility, so you usually additionally want to disable
    # keep-alive for those clients, too. Use variable "nokeepalive" for this.
    # Similarly, one has to force some clients to use HTTP/1.0 to workaround

    Remember that Arch Arm is a different distribution, but we try to bend the rules and provide limited support for them.  This may or may not be unique to Arch Arm, so you might try asking on their forums as well.

  • Problems setting up a Domain - javax.management.InstanceNotFoundException

    I am having problems setting up a Domain. The following steps summarize
    what I have done.
    1. Created FooDomain in d:/bea/wlserver6.0/config and created
    appropriate config.xml, startup scripts, security, etc... (FooDomain
    boots ok)
    2. Moved console.war to bea/wlserver6.0/config/FooDomain/applications
    3. Connected to FooDomain via console (works ok).
    4. Defined machine FooMachine (happens to be localhost)
    5. Defined new server FooServer (in addition to default myserver) and
    assigned it to FooMachine.
    6. Created a new directory d:/managedServers/FooServer (note - outside
    installation directory)
    7. Created directories d:/managedServers/FooServer/logs &
    d:/managedServers/FooServer/applications
    8. Copied sample startManagedServer.cmd from mydomain to
    d:/managedServers/FooServer & modified appropriately.
    9. Ran startManagedServer.cmd (Note: I was able to connect to the
    Administration Server ok)
    The problems are as follows. (From the console - pointing to the
    Administration Server for the FooDomain)
    1. I am unable to configure a DefaultWebApp_FooServer to be located at
    d:/managedServers/FooServer/applications. I get the following exeption:
    javax.management.InstanceNotFoundException:
    FooDomain:Name=DefaultWebApp_FooServer,Type=WebAppComponent.
    2. I get a similar error when trying to set FooServer log locations to
    d:/managedServers/FooServer/logs
    Any ideas as to why? This then begs the question, what if FooServer was
    on a different physical server altogether. How would I define the
    location of the DefaultWebApp and logs.
    Thanks

    If you want your application work, think my way. At least, all my teammates have used this method to build their development environment. If you are more interested to debug for Weblogic, contact your support representative. The tools from Administration console look very nice, but not function as you want (e.g., the tool to convert version 5.1 application to version 6, even monitor tools). Administration console is very nice to be used to configue the parameters for a domain, but not so trustful and not for application setup in my own experience and that is why I suggest you use mydomain and DefaultWebApp_MyServer as templates. By the way, I did modify config.xml manually to change the default web application entry, etc, to what I want.
    Jay Zammit <[email protected]> wrote:
    I did not modify config.xml manually. In fact, I am able to boot both the Administration Server & Managed Server. The problem happens when using the Administration console to assign my logs and Default Applications directory to the d:/managedServers/FooServer/logs, and d:/managedServers/FooServer/applications/DefaultWebApp_FooServer directories. Try it yourself. Go to the Configurer WebApp option and type in a fully qualified directory such as d:/managedServers/FooServer/applications/DefaultWebApp_FooServer
    and see if it works on your system.

    One suggestion. Use the default domain mydomain as a template. Just make a copy of "mydomain" in folder config and rename the copy to whatever you like. Use some help tools to search all files (non-binary files) in new domain for key word "mydomain" and replace these words with your new domain name. To build an application, just rename the DefaultWebApp_MyServer to what you like and search "DefaultWebApp_MyServer" in all files (non-binary files) in your new domain and replace these words with yournew application name. Note you need to modify the scripts accordingly. Then you can run "startWeblogic" in your new domain directory to start your new domain. Other parameters should be configured by Administration console. If you manually modify configuration files, you could expect some bad news without reason.

  • JWS not working after Java updates to JDK 1.6 update 24 (with apache felix)

    Hi,
    I'm currently working on some JWS application, which heavily relies on Apache Felix. It was working spotless until recent security update which comes along with Java 1.6u24. Now my application dies just when Apache Felix is starting to work.
    The exception being thrown is:
    SEVERE: Permission denied: http://felix.extensions:9/META-INF/services/javax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory

    In javaws.policy, java.policy I have set up proper security rules to enable JWS to work out of sandbox by specifying:
    grant {
    permission java.security.AllPermission;
    grant codeBase "http://felix.extensions:9/" {
    permission java.security.AllPermission;
    Also, I'm using maven's webstart-maven-plugin to create a JWS jnlp file. It's being property signed with security certificate. My resulting jnlp file has this part of configuration embedded:
    <security>
    <all-permissions />
    </security>
    Do You have any ideas what might be the problem?
    Cheers

    I just submitted a bug, and got the following e-mail.

    Synopsis: SecurityException from all-permissions app - should be ClassNotFoundException
    Description:
    FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
    java version "1.6.0_24"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_24-b07)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 19.1-b02, mixed mode, sharing)
    ADDITIONAL OS VERSION INFORMATION :
    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]
    EXTRA RELEVANT SYSTEM CONFIGURATION :
    This is a java bug - I have users on WIndows 7 and XP, and also reported on Apache felix mailing list
    A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
    The following class, when bundled, signed, and deployed with the .jnlp file below, throws a
    SecurityException
    in the new java release - even though the .jnlp specifes "all-permissions".
    Past releases would throw a ClassNotFoundException - which is great,
    and is what things like Oracle's thin-client ojdbc6.jar expect.
    The program bootstraps the Felix OSGi engine - which apparently sets up a URLClassLoader with a custom felix:// URL.
    The output of running the program with webstart follows
    below the .jnlp file.
    Note that this .jnlp file is setup to run off the file system, but the same result follows from web-launched apps, whatever.

    CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
    I can work around the problem by installing the app locally, so web-start is not necessary. I ran into this problem with an app that connects to Oracle via ojdbc6.jar - ojdbc6.jar invokes "Class.forName" to check for optional i18n classes on the class path. The Oracle code correctly handles the correct ClassNotFoundException, but the new SecurityException is breaking my app.
    workaround:

  • How to fix permission denied for home folder with Apache in Mavericks?

    I recently activated the apache that ships with OS X Mavericks. I followed some tutorial to set up the web-server, however. When I browse to my home-filter at http://localhost/~nazeem, I get the following error: You don't have permission to access /~nazeem/ on this server.
    Installation steps
    To set up the webserver, I took the following steps:
    1. activated the webserver with command: apachectl start
    2. enabled PHP by checking if the module is loaded
    3. checked if the home folder module is loaded
    4. made the user based configuration file, in /etc/apache2/users/nazeem.conf The content is as follows:
    <Directory "/Users/nazeem/Development/Websites/">
    Options Indexes MultiViews FollowSymLinks AllowOverride All
    </Directory>
    Permissions
    ~/nazeem : drwxr-xr-x+ ~/nazeem/Development : drwxr-xr-x ~/nazeem/Development/Websites : drwxr-xr-x
    Log
    The apache log says the following:
    [Mon May 19 21:22:57 2014] [error] [client ::1] client denied by server configuration: /Users/nazeem/Sites
    In my opinion this is remarkable, as the path /Users/nazeem/Sites is nog what I defined in my user configuration.
    Versions
    OS X Mavericks 10.9.3
    Apache 2.2.26
    Does anybody know how to solve this?

    You will have to contact the author of that tutorial and ask. Apache can be configured an infinite number of ways. You seem to be attempting to configure it in two conflicting methods. You can define specific directories on your web server or you can use mod_userdir. You can't hack up a combination of the two.
    I posted my own User Tip on how to configure Apache: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3083
    This user tip only covers mod_userdir and will serve content out of $(HOME)/Sites. I strongly suggest starting there and only trying a custom location later, if you see the need.

  • WebLogic 9.2 with Apache Connector Config

    Hi I am new to this forum, WebLogic, and all Oracle products for that matter. I am a college intern and I have been asked to learn how to use WebLogic 9.2. I was told that they want it to be connected to apache with the mod_wl_22.so shared module for Apache. I have placed the module in the directory and added the LoadModule line to the httpd.conf file and the module loads fine. From reading through the WebLogic documentation I now know that I need to create a <Location> block in httpd.conf for the connector. I also know that the arguments that you need to use are WebLogicHost and WebLogicPort. So in my httpd.conf I have added the following.
    <Location /weblogic>
    WebLogicHost 10.15.107.90/weblogic
    WebLogicPort 7001
    </Location>
    I also tried.....
    <Location /weblogic>
    WebLogicHost /weblogic
    WebLogicPort 7001
    </Location>
    and.....
    <Location /weblogic>
    WebLogicHost 10.15.107.90
    WebLogicPort 7001
    </Location>
    All with no luck. When I browse to http://10.15.107.90/weblogic I get nothing. Can anybody help me out here?
    Thanks
    Scott

    Hi,
    This is a template for 'httpd.conf'. Please make it sure that you are following this:
    ===
    # Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool.
    # This is the main Apache server configuration file. It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
    # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/> for detailed information about
    # the directives.
    # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # The configuration directives are grouped into three basic sections:
    # 1. Directives that control the operation of the Apache server process as a
    # whole (the 'global environment').
    # 2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server,
    # which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host.
    # These directives also provide default values for the settings
    # of all virtual hosts.
    # 3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to
    # different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the
    # same Apache server process.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do not begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/logs/foo.log".
    # NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
    # instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache").
    # If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which Apache.exe is located
    # will be used by default. It is recommended that you always supply
    # an explicit drive letter in absolute paths, however, to avoid
    # confusion.
    ### Section 1: Global Environment
    # The directives in this section affect the overall operation of Apache,
    # such as the number of concurrent requests it can handle or where it
    # can find its configuration files.
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # NOTE! If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network)
    # mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation (available
    # at <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/mod/mpm_common.html#lockfile>);
    # you will save yourself a lot of trouble.
    # Do NOT add a slash at the end of the directory path.
    ServerRoot "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2"
    # ScoreBoardFile: File used to store internal server process information.
    # If unspecified (the default), the scoreboard will be stored in an
    # anonymous shared memory segment, and will be unavailable to third-party
    # applications.
    # If specified, ensure that no two invocations of Apache share the same
    # scoreboard file. The scoreboard file MUST BE STORED ON A LOCAL DISK.
    #ScoreBoardFile logs/apache_runtime_status
    # PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process
    # identification number when it starts.
    PidFile logs/httpd.pid
    # Timeout: The number of seconds before receives and sends time out.
    Timeout 300
    # KeepAlive: Whether or not to allow persistent connections (more than
    # one request per connection). Set to "Off" to deactivate.
    KeepAlive On
    # MaxKeepAliveRequests: The maximum number of requests to allow
    # during a persistent connection. Set to 0 to allow an unlimited amount.
    # We recommend you leave this number high, for maximum performance.
    MaxKeepAliveRequests 100
    # KeepAliveTimeout: Number of seconds to wait for the next request from the
    # same client on the same connection.
    KeepAliveTimeout 15
    ## Server-Pool Size Regulation (MPM specific)
    # WinNT MPM
    # ThreadsPerChild: constant number of worker threads in the server process
    # MaxRequestsPerChild: maximum number of requests a server process serves

    ### Section 2: 'Main' server configuration
    # The directives in this section set up the values used by the 'main'

    # <VirtualHost> definition. These values also provide defaults for
    # any <VirtualHost> containers you may define later in the file.

    # virtual host being defined.

    # ServerName gives the name and port that the server uses to identify itself.
    # This can often be determined automatically, but we recommend you specify
    # it explicitly to prevent problems during startup.
    # If this is not set to valid DNS name for your host, server-generated
    # redirections will not work. See also the UseCanonicalName directive.
