Steps to update 3GS to iOS 4.3?

Steps to update 3GS to iOS 4.3 please?

This is the ipod forum.
You cannot update to 4.3.  If you have a 3gs then you can update 6.0.1
Turn on computer.
Open itunes (make sure you have the latest itunes version).
Connect iphone.
That's it.  It will prompt you to update if one is available.
Do you have an iphone 3g?  Of so, it will only go to 4.2.1

How do you update 3GS with iOS 4.3?

You can update it to 6.0.1 if you have a 3gs by following the directions in the article you linked, under updating from itunes on your computer.

If it is a 3g, then it can only to 4.2.1

  • Update 3GS to iOS 4.2.1 - no longer charges or connects to PC

    Hi,
On Saturday morning 4 December I updated my iPhone 3GS to iOS 4.2.1. It was fully charged and synced as I liked it, so at that point I didn't notice anything was wrong.
I went to charge it Sunday morning using my wall charger, and I was given the error "charging is not supported by this accessory".
Thought maybe there was something wrong with the wall charger - plugged it into my PC. No charge, not picked up by iTunes. Tried a few other things - no result.
    Now, what does work:
It does respond to my Bose Sounddock - it gives the "charging is not supported by this accessory" I always get. It also plays music through the Sounddock.
This suggests it isn't a hardware failure. Indeed, because it only occurred after I upgraded my iOS, I'm starting to think it is a software fault on behalf of Apple - my iPhone no longer likes USB connections.
I've tried every combination I've read on the internet, turning it off and on again, doing a hard reset, doing a reset to factory settings - no fix. Because my iPhone will no longer interact via USB, I can't make any changes to the software of the device that might fix it.
All up, I'm in a bit of a jam. I've turned my iPhone off to save battery in case anyone has a solution that involves interaction through the phone.
So, what are my options? I have a feeling that the phone will be bricked, which is a tad disappointing, since I've done nothing to break it.
    Thanks

Well, I think it depends on how adventureous you are, and how close you are to Apple store...or where it can be serviced. Hopefully you are still under warranty....I would try a different USB cable if you can find one without buying one..If that doesn't work, you can try a DFU mode restore. Obviously, when you do this, you will loose all data, so hopefully you have a backup or your data sync'd up somewhere. Look around for instructions on DFU mode restore. You could try a regular restore first...Up to you. See if that works. Let us know how you come out.

  • Issues when updating 3GS to iOS 4.3

    Hi,
My wife has a 3GS and has been trying for days to update to the latest version of iOS (4.3), always having an issue at the end.
First iTunes gave the message about the software upgrade, so she clicked download and install. After some time, she got an error message (Error 3259), so it seemed that the file was not being downloaded properly.
After several tries, she downloaded some software to repair the error, and it seems it worked. Also as a second alternative she downloaded manually the iOS file.
Now the problem is that she connects the 3GS to the computer, iTunes detects it, does the backup / sync and then proceeds to install the iOS upgrade, taking more than 10 minutes, and when it seems to have finished the process she gets a message saying that the connection between the laptop and the iphone was lost, and the software was not installed. We have tried a few times always having the same error at the end.
She is using a Dell computer with Windows XP and the latest version of iTunes.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Regards
    Jose

    Hi Wjosten,
Thanks for your suggestion. I did as you suggested and it partially worked.
I had to update to the latest version of iTunes. Then I disabled all security software and tried to update the iphone. It seemed to work but agained it failed. Now I get an error 1604, and need to restore the iphone. I restarted the computer, tried again, and got the same error again.
Now, not only I cannot update the iphone, but also have to deal with the fact that I need to restore, and it's not working.
Now I am going through the process of checking the USB settings, restarting (again) the computer and trying all over again.
Any ideas or suggestions will be more than welcome.
    Regards
    Jose

  • HT4623 3194 error when trying to update 3gs to IOS 6.01

I have tried everything suggested so far.  Deleting the ipsw file and having download again via itunes, deleting the phone backups taken todate and then creating a new one before doing the update.   Also opened the two different ports in Windows firewall  (80, 443) for iTtunes.    In the updater logs it states this device is not eligible for this build????
It was fine for all subsequent IOS upgrades and I have been staying at 5.1.1 until the apps had been revised for 6.01.
No this phone is not jailbroken nor has it ever been..  The below are some of the lines from the updater log

I have finally resolved the problem.    In  desperation, I looked at the HOSTS file and found the below in it.
    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
I have no idea how or when it got put in the hosts file.   I created a new HOSTS file with that line commented out and rebooted my Windows PC.
The upgrade to 6.0.1 is currently in progress as I am typing this reply.
Thanks Melle123, while your suggestion did not fix it, it got me looking even deeper.

  • Can't Activate iPhone After Updating 3GS to  iOS 6.0.1

    Hi,
I just updated my iPhone 3GS iOS to 6.0.1 and it says could not activate your iPhone with the message
"Your iPhone could not be activatedbecause the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a couple of minutes.

If u had jailbroken it earlier, the iphone is now bricked and cannot be activated.

  • Updating 3GS to iOS 5 and it it stuck with the apple screen. progress goes about 2/3's on the phone and nothing else(4 hours).

Its has been stuck for 4 hours now, had to force quit itunes and restart to see if that would solve the problem but nothing after another 2 hours. It is a factory unlocked 3GS to was on 4.0 before i did the restore/backup to update to 5.0. Have itunes updated to 10.5 . so how the heck do I get it out of this? I have tried force quiting itunes and started over and the same crap.

The following kb is pretty basic, but if you haven't worked through it you should

If it doesn't work, and if you've also tried restart/reset/restore, then a trip to the Genius bar isn't a bad idea.

  • Apple ID issues since updating 3GS to iOS 5.

I have been unable to update my apps on my phone because after doing the iOS 5 update, it asked for my Apple ID but wouldn't take the current ID because it wasn't an email.  So I put my email address and then began having issues because it asked for my password.  Long story short, is there anyway to link my Apple ID's so I can update my iphone apps?  I've tried typing in the other but then it states my password is incorrect.  So I try setting up another one and I keep chasing my tail.
    JL

You can't combine Apple ID's.  Your apps are tied to the original Apple ID that they were purchased under so it sounds like you need to reset the password and go back to using the old Apple ID.
You can reset it here: https://iforgot.apple.com

  • No songs transferred after updating 3gs to iOS 5

  • Updated iPhone 3GS to ios 6

I updated my software for my iPhone 3GS to ios 6 and didn't have it plugged in, as I never had to before.  My battery was at 100% when it started and the update drained my battery.  Now my iphone is in limbo, it tells me that my software is updated, but I need a few more steps, when I connect to itunes, it connects and disconnects itself and itunes can't read my iphone and wants me to restore it.  The problem is that I didn't back up my photos and don't want to lose anything.  How can I get my pics and contacts off of my iphone?

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
To minimise loss... Connect to iTunes on the computer you Usually Sync with and Restore from the most recent Backup...

  • I have the iPhone 3GS and I was updating to the IOS 5 version when at the end of the update it said updated failed. Now my phone is not recognized by my computer or any computer. The computer says it is a unknown device and my phone will not do anything.

Need help finding out what happened to my phone and what I can do. After trying to update my iPhone 3GS to IOS 5 my phone will no longer work and is an unknown device to any computer. It is like it wiped out everything on the iPhone and has no hardware or data on it. At the end of the download and update of IOS 5 it said there was an error during the process and gave me no option but to push ok and know phone is not working. The screen shows the USB plug and iTunes symbol, but computers will not recognize device.

What was the error number?  That would be very useful since the following gives actions for various errors.

    hello,
i try to update my iphone to ios 5.1.1 but i get an error message

if i can , How can i do that.
    thanks alot.

An iPhone 3GS can go to iOS 6.0.1, the latest available iOS. and you do that via iTunes. You need iTunes version 10.7
iTunes 10 for Windows: Update and restore software on iPod, iPhone, or iPad
However, the iPhone 3G can only go 4.2.1.
