  • [SOLVED] Upgrade from SLES10 SP3 & OES2 SP2 to SP4/SP3 breaks NCS

    Hi folks,
(This post was originally meant to be a rant and a request for help, but
while writing the final paragraph i found the solution. It's still a
rant, but i figured i'd post my solution here in case someone else runs
    into the same issue.)
I've just spent several hours banging my head against a broken cluster
node. My system is a 32-bit SLES 10 VM running on VMware ESX 3.5.x.
I upgraded from SLES10 SP3 and OES2 SP2 to the next service packs for
each (using the move-to-oes-sp3 script in yast2 online_update).
Everything went well for the first few update/reboot sequences, then
after the final reboot on SLES10 SP4 & OES2 SP3, cluster services would
not load or join the cluster on restart.
I checked dmesg and found errors about "Loading module compiled for
kernel version 2.6.16.60-0.54.5-vmi" into a previous kernel version, so
i tried downgrading to that kernel version, only to find that it was
older than the one i had just upgraded from (it's the original SLES10
SP3 kernel). So i tried upgrading back to the same kernel which is
running on the other cluster node (2.6.16.60-0.77.1-vmi), but that did
    not work any better.
    <preaching>
I have to say that i'm not impressed that OES2 SP3 isn't even compiled
against the appropriate kernel, and because of SUSE's kernel RPM
overwrite policy there's no way i can select to boot from a previous
kernel to see if that fixes things. Note to SUSE and other distro
builders: if you're not doing kernel package upgrades like Red Hat or
Ubuntu (so that we can select to boot from the previous kernel from the
boot menu), you're doing it *WRONG*.
    </preaching>
I then upgraded again to the latest recommended kernel for SLES10 SP4,
and still no joy. Dmesg shows this error before the rot starts:
allocation failed: out of vmalloc space - use vmalloc=<size> to increase
    size.
When searching for this error i stumbled across
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132
    which pointed me to
    http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Common_Pr...lloc_too_small
Adding vmalloc=192M to /boot/grub/menu.lst and rebooting solved the
    problem for me.

The system in question has kernel-bigsmp and kernel-vmi installed. We
    only ever boot from kernel-vmi.

When we installed the system (on OES2 SP1, i believe) it was a while
ago, and kernel-vmi with clocksource=acpi_pm on the kernel command line
was the only solution we could find to get reliable time. If there are
updated best-practice documents, i'd be happy to hear about them.
However, this is a production cluster and my boss is (rightly) rather
    reticent to make major changes.
    Paul
the official Vmware paper on time is that IF you're using SLES 10.x 32-bit you will use VMI and NO kernel params (ie, get rid of the clockpit and clocksource=blah).
But if 64-bit then you're okay.
The easiest, IMO (especially with vmware) is to use the miggui (migration utility). That's how I'm converting all my 32-bit servers in vmware to 64-bit. Works quite well.

  • What are the recommended steps to upgrade from CF7 to CF8

I have read all of the documentation for how to upgrade from
CF 7.02 to CF 8. Well there is actually only one blurb in all of
    the CF docs.
"Upgrade installation You can upgrade from ColdFusion MX,
ColdFusion MX 6.1, and ColdFusion MX 7. When upgrading from
ColdFusion MX, ColdFusion MX 6.1, or ColdFusion MX 7, the installer
preserves the existing settings and installs in a new directory,
automatically assigning ports that do not conflict with the
    existing installation."
OK that sounds simple enough, so i went ahead and installed
it. Well it did not work, now I am stuck somewhere between 7 and 8.
My basic step, as I can best recall at 1:00AM.
    * Select Multi server Configuration
    * Select install path, I used D:\JRun4
    * This is where my existing cf7 install was located
    * installer told me port 8300 was being used so it gave me
    port 8306 instead
    * Selected d: for ColdFusion8DotNetService install path
    * Select Passwords for admin and rds
    * installed cf
    * received error after install
    (Adobe_ColdFusion_8_InstallLog.log)
    ANT Script Error:
    Status: ERROR
Additional Notes: ERROR - jrun.xmlUnable to remove existing
    file D:\JRun4\bin\jrun.exe
    * rebooted
    * can't login to cfadmin at port 8306
    * tried to login to cfadmin at port 8300, everythin works
    * it appears the cf7 services are still running,
    * didn't notice any new cf8 services, excpet the dotnet
    stuff
    Any assistance would be appriciated.

Essentially CF comes with the updates that will become JRun 4
    Updater 7
integrated into it. (The beta of Updater 7 is under way).

Use the CAR file, XML file formats have changed between
    versions.

What you are describing is a simultaneous update of JRun and
    CF. For
just an update of CF you need to redeploy the CF EAR file as
    described
in the JRun manual. For just an update of JRun you have to
    wait until
updater 7 is released (or join the beta and file bugs if you
    don't like
    the procedure).
    > Another possible option would be to update JRUN with the
    latest release,
The latest release is only updater 6.
    > download the latest JRE and create a custom jvm.config
file to use for the new
    > JRE. Then you would create a new instance of JRUN using
    the JRUN console and
    > deploy a CF8 EAR/WAR file to it. You still then have the
    issue of getting

Use a CAR file for that.
    > This seems possible to do it this way but does not seem
    as clean at all.
In place upgrades are never clean. In my book, an upgrade
    means
    rebuilding from scratch.

  • Steps to upgrade from Weblogic Portal 8.1 to Webcenter Portal 11.1.1.6

Currently I'm involved in consulting for a client who has Weblogic Portal (WLP) 8.1. I'm trying to find documentation for upgrade from WLP 8.1 to Webcenter 11.1.1.6.
I found the below link but the starting point for upgrade is Oracle WebCenter 10g (10.1.3)
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e22628/wcmap.htm
I'm not clear if I should migrate from WLP 8.1 to WLP 10.3.x and then to Webcenter or direct migration from WLP 8.1 to Webcenter is possible ?
Any pointers / links / case study would be helpful.
Thanks for the helping soul in advance.

Thank you jiri for the quick response.
Regarding your comment 'upgrade from WLP 8.1 to WLP 10.3.5 is not for free', I did some search and found that the documentation is available for upgrading from 8.1 to 10.3.4 as below :
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26806_01/wlp.1034/e14253/upgrade_process.htm
Also when I went to the 10.3.5 documentation library (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35968_01/index.htm), I found the below link (where the upgrade process points 8.1 to 10.3.4 instead of 8.1 to *10.3.5*)
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26806_01/wlp.1034/e14253/toc.htm
My understanding (after reading the documentation + your comment) is that we can upgrade from 8.1 to 10.3.4 but to upgrade to 10.3.5 we need to pay Oracle. Could you point me to a link which has that information ?
    Thank you for your help.

  • EVDRE Access Issue Post Upgrade from BPC 5.1 SP3 to BPC 7.0 SP6

    Greetings,
Recently upgraded from BPC 5.1SP3 to BPC 7.0 SP6.  Experiencing some strange behavior regarding the ability to send data to BPC from an EVDRE.  Both users are part of the same secuity team, thus have the same security in both versions.  However, one is able to send data to BPC 7.0 SP6 for a specific input template while the other recieves a message "There is no data to refresh."    This message is not encountered in BPC 5.1 SP3.
The strange thing is that the user who receives the "there is no data to refresh" is able to rebuild the input template ad hoc and send data to BPC
I have reviewed security, cleared the cache on the user's machine.  I had the user with this issue log onto the app server; she encountered the same behavior regarding this template.  Also tested a seperate input template in another application, this issue did not occurr.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Greg Lakin

    Hi, n
From your description it looks like the problem si more related to that specific user. Please try to reprocess the security for that user. Then go on file server and go into <appset>/<application>/<private publication>/<user name> and delete appinfo.zip.
Other idea can be related to the excel cache, but I don;t know why is not working for this specific user. You can try to save it in a new template as Patrick indicated.
You can try also clear local application information from admin client or try from other machine using the same client.
    Hope this can hekp you,
    Mihaela

  • Steps to upgrade App-V 5.0 SP2 to App-V 5.0 SP3

    Hey Pro´s,
    I want to update my whole app-v-setup from 5.0 SP2 to 5.0 SP3.
When searching for the upgrade-steps I found this article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn858700.aspx#BKMK_migrate_to_50SP3
In there you can find a step which is used to check and update registry keys with the ones that you have defined in your base installation - I didn´t set any keys by myself?
Could somebody please tell me what I have to do with those keys?
I´ve already checked my registry and there are lots of keys that miss completly like:
    MANAGEMENT_SERVER_MACHINE_USE_LOCAL
    or
    MANAGEMENT_REMOTE_SERVER_MACHINE_ACCOUNT
But my App-V 5.0 SP2-environment is running fine.
Best regards and thanks in advance
    GoProo
/e: Just upgraded the App-V-Mgmt-Server without doing anything before that. It created those listed registry-keys. After that it says it can´t connect to SQL-database and it ain´t working anymore.
    Reverted to the snapshot now.
    Any help appreciated : )

I came here looking for advice on this as well, but I think I can help you here.
If you look, there are a few things that are probably missing from your configuration that were possibly unnecessary to apply hotfixes, but seem to be necessary to apply the full service pack.  For me, I was missing:
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\AppV\Server\Management Database :
All Items.  I assumed I didn't need this because the management database is on a different machine.
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\AppV\Server\ManagementService :
MANAGEMENT_ADMINACCOUNT was blank, but it did have the group sid in a key.  I used powershell to translate the SID to a name so that I was 100% sure that I used the same exact AD group, then I added the name to this key.
MANAGEMENT_DB_SQL_INSTANCE: I don't need this key because SQL is using the default instance, but it was blank.  You may have to adjust this.
MANAGEMENT_DB_SQL_SERVER_NAME: Looks like this key changed somewhere.  I have MANAGEMENT_DB_SQL_SERVER and it's set as my SQL server name.  Looks like it wants the value under the _NAME key now, so I just copied the SQL server
from the "old" value to this new one.
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\AppV\Server\ReportingDatabase:
All items were missing.  Again, I'm assuming this is fine because I'm using the default instance on a remote machine and all default values seem fine to me.
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\AppV\Server\ReportingService:
REPORTING_DB_SQL_INSTANCE: was blank for me, but I have no instance so you might want to check this and add it if necessary.
    REPORTING_DB_SQL_SERVER_NAME:
As above, it appears that the value was previously defined in REPORT_DB_SQL_SERVER and now _NAME has been appended.  I copied the SQL Server name to this value.
    Hope that helps.
I'm stuck at a point where it's telling me that "The database components must be updated to be compatible with the upgraded server.  Functionality will be limited until this is completed.  Do you want to proceed with the upgrade? [YES] [NO]".
I'm trying to figure out what this means -- will it bring down my database and no App-V 5 apps will work?  or is it just saying my App-V Server won't be available...  let me know if you get past this part! :)

  • Steps to upgrade from sql 2008 r2 se (nonclustered) to sql 2012 se (clustered)

    hello,
I am currently running a non clustered instance of a sqlserver 2008 R2 SE and need to upgrade to a clustered instance of SQLServer 2012 SE. The underlying OS is Windows 2008 R2 SE. I already bought the second server with the same os online but havent installed
    sql 2012 yet.
I am thinking of backing up my databases and script out all the logins and linked servers first.
Then upgrade the SQLServer 2008 R2 SE to 2012 SE. But can I upgrade it to a clustered instance directly? If yes then I can definitely add the other server to the cluster while installing sql.
Can someone point me to the right steps for this upgrade process
    Thanks

    Hello,
Direct  upgrade to cluster is not possible without installing SQL server in cluster aware mode. I would recommend you need to uninstall SQL server 2008 R2 and then create windows cluster between two nodes and then install SQL server in cluster aware
    mode.
You are right with taking up complete backup of all databases with logins and jobs.

  • Need steps to Upgrade from Oracle 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4

    Hi Experts,
We have some databse of diffrent version running on the same host.
Two oracle homes are there on that host 1.) one for the databases running on Oracle 10.2.0.3 .
2.) 2nd one for the databases running on Oracle version 10.2.0.4.
Now we are planning to upgrade the oracle database running on 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4 on the sane host.
My question is How to upgrade the database from 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4 by using the current oracle home already used by the databases of version 10.2.0.4 on the same host.
    OS is HPUX
    /db/oracle/10.2.0.4/ --- Host 1
    /db/oracle/10.2.0.3/ ---Host1
What steps i need to execute.

Get hold of the upgrade / install notes from the 10.2.0.4 patch and read them. If you go to the metalink site you can download the notes by themselves if
you don't have the patch file lying around.
Essentially what you want to do is shutdown the database in the old Oracle home and then start it up in the new oracle home so you can upgrade it.
    1) back it up!
    2) run any pre-upgrade checks - see 10.2.0.4 patch notes.
    3) shutdown database - see 10.2.0.4 patch notes
    4) move/copy init<SID>.ora,spfile<SID>.ora, orapw<SID> files for the instance to the new Oracle Home see $ORACLE_HOME/dbs
NOTE: you can ensure you are not starting the database using the OLD Oracle Home by moving the files out of the OLD $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory
or renaming them ( but don't delete them incase you need to back out ).
    5) update your /etc/oratab file and tnsnames.ora file / listener.ora files ( if applicable ) $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
    6) update any enviroment settings / scripts you have for setting up your environment.
    7) start database using the NEW Oracle Home ( check and set environment variables ) "using" the upgrade procedure from the the 10.2.0.4 patch notes.

  • Upgrading from 9,2.0.6 (HP-UX) to 10g or 11g on Redhat Linux?

Generally what are the steps to upgrade from 9,2.0.6 (HP-UX) to 10g or 11g on Redhat Linux?
Can I exp the database on 9.2.0.6 (HP-UX) then imp the database to a new 10/11g database (RedHat Linux)?
    Is this the simplest way?

To change platforms require the database instance be re-built and / or the data moved using one of the following methods:
Export / Import to include the use of Datapump facilities. all versions support Export/Import but for Datapump 10.1.0.2 or higher is required
    Transportable Tablespaces 10G or Later
RMAN Convert Database functions. 10G or Later
    Streams Replication
    Create Table As Select (CTAS)
    Oracle Golden Gate
As your database is 9.2.0.6 you can only use export/import. Please refer to the MOS doc 733205.1 for further clarification
