Stereo audio too far right on built in speakers?

My stereo audio on the built in speakers is way off. Anyone else have this audio issue with their Macbook Pro 2.5 GHz i5, 4GB? The audio is pushed towards the right side way more. I've checked the system settings and the slider is right in the middle, but to get it so it sounds remotely balanced, I have to push it to about 25% from the left. So I checked this with my headphones and to my surprise, the headphones are properly balanced with the system settings sound in the center position.
So that lead me to try this... using the built ins I slid the balance all the way over to the RIGHT side... left speaker goes silent. But when I slid the slider all the way to the LEFT, sound is still coming out the right speaker. So that is a bit of an inconvenience. Any insight?

There's a "center channel" speaker for bass that's located towards the right side. That's probably where you're hearing the sound when you have the balance control set all the way to the left.

Is this audio too far gone or can audition be of help?

The linked short clip starts normally but at 10 seconds the gain drops and becomes distorted. It was originally recorded with a sony hd cam and a wireless mic. The mic is the obvious culprit. There is about a 3 minute stretch out of a 90 minute presentation where the audio is corrupted. I would really like to find a way to make it so that it would be at least understandable. I have been using audition for a short time and know the basics and that is about it. Are there audition effects that might help me out or is this a lost cause?

Dang, I should have written down what I did!
Anyhow, from memory, I:
Grabbed one side of your stereo file and used "Copy to New" since it was mono anyhow. (I used the side with the higher levels)
Ran Noise Reduction (Process) 4 times, getting a new noise print each time with FFT sizes of 2048, 4096, 8192 and 16384 respectively. I made each pass of NR pretty light to minimise artefacts...about 15% NR and reduction by 6dB.
I then moved to Audition 3 (this feature isn't in CS6 or CC) and ran the clip restoration--frankly, because it was not level related clipping I don't thing it did much so, if you can't do this bit, I wouldn't worry too much.
To aid the speech clarity, I used EQ (the 30 band graphic but this is an area I'd play with if doing it again) and knocked off all frequencies below 100Hz and everything above 8kHz. I also put on a slight boost (around 4dB) in the 200-400Hz range.
Finally, I normalised to an average level. If I was doing it again, I might play with some compression to reduce the dynamic range a bit.
None of this is set in stone, but have a play.

Horizontal scroll for Tree component scrolls too far right

I've enabled the horizontal scroll bar for the Tree component.
But the scroll bar allows the user to scroll very far to the right into blank space.
The maximum width of my components measures 124px, as calculated by measureWidthOfItems(0,0), and I've verified this by measuring pixels of a screen shot.
I have tried adding an event to set the Tree.maxHorizontalScrollPosition, and I traced the value that I'm setting it to, and I also traced the value that it actually assumed after I set it. Both are 124px.
So I can't understand the behavior. I can scroll something more like ~400px to the right with lots of blank space.
Any ideas why?

Hmm, I'm not sure why this works, but it works, so for completeness here's what I did (in case anyone else runs across this same thread):

I call the above code whenever the window is resized (in my app there are 2 places that can cause a resize of the window, I manually added calls to a function with the above code). There is also an example out there that resizes any time the window is resized, but if you do this then you really can't have liveDragging=true in a DividedBox (which I have) because the cost of resizing is very high and overtaxes the cpu when called many times consecutively. I just call it when the dragging is finished (that way I have live dragging enabled, but it only updates the scroll bars when the user stops dragging, which is visually acceptable).

Is there a way to have audio come out through both built in speakers and external speakers?

The only way that comes to my mind is in the latest versions of iTunes using Airtunes, and this obviously applies only to sound comin from iTunes.
When using a pair of external speakers connected to the AirportExpress, you click on both "Computer" and "Airport" in iTunes output menu (next to the buttons for Equalizer, Full screen, eject). Now everything that goes through iTunes will be heard on the computer and on the external speakers.
This does not work with any other source of sound in your computer (quicktime, DVD player, VLC, etcétera), only with iTunes.

You have two basic options. One is to use a commercial screen recording app with access to system audio built into the app and the other is to add a system extension like SoundFlower that allows the QT X screen recorder to access/record the system audio. I use the former so I am not that familiar with SoundFlower but there should be several posts to this forum covering this topic.

Audio input issue - No stereo... Right channel only.

Ok - I'll try to make this as concise as poss but it needs some explanation:
I'm home-recording hobbyist musician. One of the things I would very much like to use the iMac for is to back up old four-track tape recordings, recording them as wav or mp3 as the case maybe and saving them to my hdd. Easy right? Apparently not, so far... let me explain:
On the tape recorder there is only an RCA stereo out (red and white, left and right). The very first thing I did when I got the iMac was download Audacity (the audio software), hooked up a stereo lead to the RCA outs on the tape recorder, and ran it into the line-in port on the iMac, using the 1/8" jack.
Now, sound came in, but only the right channel. The left channel was completely dead (ie when I panned the audio to the left, or if there was a sound in the mix that was only in the left channel, it was absent).
Since then I've bought Logic Pro and and an audio interface and this presents the EXACT same problem... Nothing in the left channel. (please note, I am aware you can "fake" stereo by setting a channel-strip to "mono" so that there is sound on both sides, but get this - it only splits the right channel in two - so you still don't have the left channel or genuine stereo signal frustratingly)
It should be noted that stereo sound is not a general problem on the system. Stereo output is perfect (ie on itunes, cds, online etc - or if I'm using softsynths in Logic for instance) it is solely an AUDIO INPUT issue.
Needless to say I've explored all options in sys prefs to no avail.
It should also be noted that I have also tested the actual output of the tape recorder and used the same leads to line into a home stereo system no problems.
Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about or how this could be resolved? I am even open to suggestions for peripheral equipment, sofware additions etc - any questions at all, just ask.

Sorry about delay replying - have had an internet outage here just to add to my woes haha.
Anyway, the good news is that I think I've cracked it:
After updating the OS per your suggestion, uninstalling both Audacity and the m-audio (profire 610), and lastly resetting defaults on sys audio midi prefs I was still experiencing this problem - just on a line-in to Garageband. Pure frustration.
So eventually I just elected (in lieu of chucking the hardware out the nearest window lol) to do a cold re-install of the OS (erase and install option, backup hdd done). As I bought the iMac in January the OS is 10.5.5 I think.
After install, before doing anything else at all, I opened Garageband, set up an audio track and set input prefs to Line in Stereo 1/2 etc, and hooked up the tape unit via rca and the line-in port. The result? Perfect 2-channel stereo.
My personal theory is that the problem was created by the audio interface installation - an m-audio "profire 610" - Tho Audio interfaces are a frickin minefield anyway between Macs and PCS, chipset compatabilities, dodgy beta drivers, worthless gadget-hawking etc etc... I also realised that while my first original attempt was on Audacity I had already installed the profire unit just immediately before (but didn't use it). I doubt it was Logic which is designed specifically for the mac - I feel this theory might be proven when I reinstall these.
So there you go - get the Audio interface right it seems.. And I've got stereo audio.

Item Button Positioning: Too far to the right with "Begin on New Field"

I'm attempting to add an item button inline with other items. If option "Begin on New Field" is set the button is too far to the right, however, if this option is unset the button is too close to the item on to its left.
Any suggestions on how I can get more granular conrol of this button's location?

For situations like this I highly recommend the Firefox web developer toolbar. Since ApEx makes heavy use of tables for layout, using the "Outline >> Table Cells" feature shows you how things are broken up (with td tags) and offers clues to resolving problems.
There is also a CSS viewer along with a "Display Element Information" option that shows a full hierarchical view of any element on that page that you want to click on. Check it out. You'll be glad you did.
BTW, in your case, it appears that you simply have multiple elements of differing heights that are being vertically-aligned differently. The date picker icon appears to be bottom-aligned with it's associated text box while all the other elements appear to be centered on the row. Correcting it? Don't know. I'm sure Vikas or Carl could come up with a DOM/CSS hack that could make it look the way you want it.

Problem with menus on the right and image is too far to the right.

Notice the difference in sizes of the menus, (Unfamiliar with the correct terminology). I cannot get the Adjustments, Layers, Properties, etc. to all be the same size, increase their width. Notice the loaded image is too far to the right underneath the menus. I have to go to Window/Arrange/Float in window to move the image to the left. Also I cannot get the Maximize/Minimize button to work. How can I fix these problems.

I did that already with the same results. Trying to widen the Adjustment
menu does not work. I am satisfied with
the way the other menus appear. The only other problem that bothers me
is that the loaded image is to far to the
right, and is underneath the menus. The only way I can move the image to
the left is to use the Float in window
command, but it is not permanent. It goes back to the default position
when another image is opened.

Thanks, Bob. I've seen this suggested before. However, I'm at a friend's place (cat-sitting). He owns an older MacBook (almost positive) and he streams audio without Airfoil. All he uses is AirPort Express. He told me to simply click alt-option and the volume icon and a menu drops down, and I select "AirPort Express". But it never appears. All the menu offers is this:
"AirPort Express" isn't an option.
Why is that? Is there something fundamental I'm not doing?

3 audio tracks (centre,right,çeft) : How to make stereo pairs?

Working with one video track and three audio tracks (recorded as Centre, Left and Right) for each clip.
Having problems when I do overlaps or fades manually. I need to treat each track separately as not possible to make them a stereo pair.
Should I duplicate the Centre track and make it a stereo pair and make another stereo pair with Left/Right.
What should be the easiest way/workaround to treat/link the audio tracks so that sound transitions like manual overlaps/fades can be done?

Hi-
Do your manual fade on one track of the three. Select the track with the manual fade and type command+C to copy it. Select the other two tracks and type Option+V. A window will open that will let you choose to paste only your level settings, pan, or content or any combination of those.
If you have elaborate manual mixing you might want to razor blade just the section of the the three audio clips you want to apply the sound transition to - so as not to disturb other parts of the mix.

It has always been that the upgrade tries to be the "master" over the older version.
Anyway in Pages 09 you have probably the Comments field showing, making all contetn to move to the right.
Go to View menu > Hide Comments.

I have the same problem on the latest iTunes software and Windows 7. My window is maximzed and I do not see any tab for photos. Seems related to a recent update (IOS7?) as this was there - at least before the very big change to the interface.

How do I break a stereo audio clip to get the left and right separately

I tried that, but I keep getting "Unsupported Clip" in the channel configuration audio tab of the Inspector.
Here's my workflow:
Import Flip cam's h.264/AAC MP4 files
Edit a clip into a project.
Break apart the clip, to give separate video and audio segments
The green audio segment (will have -a1 after the name in the segment) will be say it's an "Unsupported Clip" in the channel configuration audio tab of the Inspector.
If I change the original clip to dual mono before I break apart I get two mono clips, which is what I was after (but then I could just disable one of the dual mono tracks without splitting apart if that was all I wanted).
I suggest that getting an "Unsupported Clip" when I break apart these clips is a bug.

Stereo audio works only in FCE

I know this has been covered before but I would like some help to get from where I am now, out of the hole I seem to have dug.
Briefly, VHS video with HiFI stereo audio was converted with a Sony DCR TRV355 camera to DVPAL 720x576. Audio 16Bit 48Khz. Firewire cable plugged into the MAC running FCE4 and captured using 'capture now'. So far so good. I drag the clip to the timeline and the two audio tracks and the video track appear. The three names are all underlined. The two audio tracks are linked (the two arrows point to each other like an hour glass where the two tracks touch). The audio plays in stereo. I do nothing to this file, and quit FCE. Now, if I play that untouched captured file on a MAC or PC, in Quicktime, Windows Media Player, FLV whatever, the audio is mono, not stereo. Possibly only one leg of the stereo pair, or possibly left and right summed to mono, it's not easy to tell.
So I have two questions really:
One (not relevant to this problem as I cannot recapture the clip), what do I need to do differently next time to avoid this incompatibiliy?
Two, how do I get from here to being able to play the .mov file in any player in stereo, without degrading the picture? Thanks in advance.

This should have worked fine. A few questions -
Did you use the TRV355 as a converter between your VHS deck and your Mac, or did you record the VHS video to a tape in your TRV355 ... and later use FCE to capture from the TRV355 tape?
What Easy Setup did you use in FCE when you captured this video?
Exactly what versions of FCE, OS X and QuickTime are on the Mac you used to capture the video? Do you have QuickTime7 installed on this Mac?
Did you experience the "mono problem" playing the captured clip on the same Mac you used to capture the video, or did the problem appear on a different Mac?
When you experienced the "mono problem" were you playing the captured clip in QuickTime X or QuickTime 7?
For what it's worth, I have observed that if I play a video clip in QuickTime X that was captured on a Mac with FCE/QuickTime 7, for some inexplicable reason QT X does not fully recognize all the tracks in the clip. Mostly it thinks the clips are audio only, no video; but if I play the clip in QT7 it plays fine.
