Stereo Bluetooth (A2DP?) in iPhone 3GS

I thought I would hear about the support for stereo bluetooth in the newest iPhones. If it was added, I would have expected that it was talked about in the Developer's Conference presentation. But since there was no mention of it, I'm thinking that it is a no go for now in the iPhone 3GS. Can anyone confirm or deny the the inclusion of this feature in the upcoming hardware?

Mac OS3.0 does supposedly provide stereo Bluetooth via a car kit but it is not clear how to achieve this.
In my car I have a Mercedes Benz Bluetooth kit that allows hands free via bluetooth but when I play music via the iPod application I do not get to choose between the iPhone speaker and the car speaker. It plays from the iPhone speakers. I tried to 'trick it' by selecting MB during a phone call. This resulted in music being played via the car speakers simultaneously with the phone call. The sound was crappy - perhaps because it was mono only. When I hung up the phone call the music reverted to the iPhone speakers.

Bluetooth on my IPhone 3GS seems not function properly. How to check and rectify it.

It would help if you explained what you mean when you say it doesn't function properly. What are you attempting to do? What happens when you try? What troubleshooting steps have you already taken?

  • I cannot connect bluetooth between an iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.

I cannot connect bluetooth between an iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4S. Any reasons this might be happening? Any suggestions on how to fix it? Thank you.

To access iCloud all your iPhone needs is iOS 5 or later and an Internet connection, either via cell service or WiFi. Then just set up iCloud with the same Apple ID and password you've been using on your iPhone 4.
You might want to consider just getting your iPhone 4 replaced by Apple. Based on the prices I've seen for iPhone 3GS units, Apple's replacement price isn't that much more, and you'll be certain of getting a working, non-hacked iPhone.  Apple's replacement price for the iPhone 4 is US $149.

Why can,t I bluetooth pair my iPhone 3GS with my new iPad, it does not even show up as discoverable. What can I do to fix this

For what purpose are you trying to pair them?
Only supported peer to peer apps such as photo transfer or multiplayer games can connect to other iOS devices via Bluetooth. You initiate the connection inside the app running on both devices.

  • Bluetooth Headset Pairing (iPhone 3GS)

I purchased the *+Rocketfish RF-BTHP01+* (Bluetooth Headset - earbuds, behind the neck form factor) it's very cool, great for working out and listening to music.. Which originally worked fine, paired with the phone and was wonderful for about 6 months until today when i upgraded to the latest iPhone 3GS OS (3.1.3). All of a sudden it cannot pair anymore. I have no idea what is going on. Looked on the net and found that people are having similar problems, someone said to try to flip airplane mode off and on and BT off and on. Tried that, also tried resetting.. Neither of those seem to work. Any other options ?

Have you put then headphones into "discovery mode"?

  • Motorola Stereo Headset S605 and iPhone 3GS

I could pair the 2 above and receive calls, but i cannot stream music from iPhone 3GS to the headset. Can anyone help?

    Jabra doesn't work...
    Philips SHB 7100 doesn't work...
Sony Ericsson, some models work, some don't. Esp the low end doesn't work.., or skips badly...
I got an iTech from Challenger... it's clip music 801. It's quite good. Esp given the price tag of 88$
I got the Philips before and sold it through hardwarezone. You can try that or wait for 3.1 update and pray to El Jobso... it might fix the bluetooth woes...

  • Beaming contacts via bluetooth between 2 iPhones 3GS.

Hi all, does anyone knows how I can beam a contact from one iPhone to another via bluetooth?
It was said in the keynotes presentation that it's possible.
I've tried turning bluetooth on both iPhones to ON, but all they did were searching for devices with no results.
Tried going to Contacts to send contacts, but no bluetooth sending option is given.
    thanks for reading. help appreciated!

No, you can't do this with an iPhone, and it wasn't "said" at any keynote presentation. Bluetooth data transfers to a computer or another phone are not supported at this time, and no announcements about this were made by Apple. This article summarizes the supported BT profiles in the iPhone:

  • No or bad Bluetooth and GPS with my iPhone 3GS.

    Hi all,
I have serious Problems using either GPS and Bluetooth with my iPhone 3GS. First I recognized that my Bluetooth headset was not working as before. For example the connection is dropped quite often and The quality is really bad.
Second I found that the GPS signal is such Bad that no APP like runkeeper or Nike+ can work with it.
Strange is that everything is working well after a reset to factory defaults using iTunes. But both BT and GPS are only working As designed for about 12 to 18 houers. After that timeframe The Device has to Be reseted with iTunes again :-(
Snce everything was working fine a few weeks ago, I guess it has to do somezhing with the latest firmeware.
BTW: The headset IS working fine with other devices and the googlemaps app, included in the iOS is showing a GPS signal (20 to 50 m radius)
Any help is welcome. Please respond to [email protected], thanks!

  • Personal Hotspot won't work on MacBook (using iPhone 3GS bluetooth method)

My MacBook says that it is connected to my iPhone on Bluetooth and my iPhone 3GS says that it has one Personal Hotspot connection which was the MacBook but the MacBook has failed to connect to the internet even though my iPhone 3G was on, Cellular Data was on, Bluetooth was on and Personal Hotspot was on,
    Please Help me!

    Incorrect,
The picture on my screen says otherwise, the Personal Hotspot function on the iPhone 3GS is only either a USB connection or a Bluetooth connection, right now my Personal Hotspot is acting as a wired connection to my computer. iPhone 4 and 4S models can do USB connection, Bluetooth connection and Wi-Fi connection

  • Will 3.0 bring Bluetooth Mono to iPhone 1G?

It's very clear that 3.0 will not bring A2DP (stereo bluetooth) to 1G iPhones. But most of my iPhone listening is podcasts, which would be fine with a standard (mono) bluetooth headset. Does 3.0 bring this to the 1G iPhone?

I am not sure if this will help, but there are some A2DP BT headsets out there that are mono (single ear). Jabra and Plantronics both make one, but I tried them and did not like either. Sonorix is about to come out with one, the H5. Most of their previous BT devices have been highly rated, so I have high hopes for this one. I received an email from them a couple of weeks ago saying that it was going to be released in about two months (about 6 weeks from now). I am definately going to try one whenever it is available.

  • Cannot get Motorola S9-HD to pair with iphone 3gs

    Hi,
I get the solid blue light to show that the S9 is in pairing mode.
I turn on Bluetooth on my iPhone 3GS.
The iPhone "sees" the Motorola S9 HD, but that's as far as it goes. The display shows "Not Paired" no matter how many times I try.
    Thoughts? Hacks? Tricks?

Got on the phone with Apple tech support and cleared up the issue.

  • IPhone version 2 and stereo bluetooth

the specs say bluetooth 2.0 + edr but nothing about supporting A2DP which stereo
bluetooth headphones require. anyone know if the new iphone supports this?

I don't usually pile on, cuz I like Apple (I really do...).
But this refusal to include A2DP is just inexcusable. It was bad enough forcing me to buy a bunch of various adapters so I can use my own headphones (Apple: are you listening? Those ear buds do not, in fact, fit the ears of every person on the planet), and I'm glad they saw the error of their ways with the next gen, but still no stereo bluetooth? My old phone was a piece of sh*t Motorola Q, but at least I could use my stereo bluetooth headset with it. And the iPhone is supposed to be "the best iPod [you've] ever made?" Apple? All that multimedia power and 3 different radios built-in, including bluetooth, but because you've taken some weird stand on A2DP I'm stuck with a dangling wire, just waiting to get snagged on a piece of equipment sending my $600 iPhone (thanks Apple!) hurling to the gym floor?
I just hope they're not taking some warped principled stand (I have no idea what principle) like they did against the 2-button mouse for practically decades in the face of almost universal disdain (or like they seem to be doing with MMS - yeah I know...e-mail, but it's not the same thing). Yes, you can make the argument that the iPhone cannot do everything - but it's already got bluetooth, and all Apple would need to do is include a simple profile. What the heck does Apple care what headphones I use to listen to music on my iPhone anyway?

  • IPhone 3GS with OS 4.3.1 - will it iPod in conjunction with Volvo stereo ?

Following the fiasco of finding that upgrading my iPhone 3Gs to iOS 4.2 killed its ability for the phone's iPod function to connect with my 2010 Volvo V70 factory stereo (and then needing to endure an Apple (MS style) info black-out and wait months for the cure to the problem by way of installing iOS 4.3 on the phone) I am now confronted with the dilemma; do I upgrade to OS 4.3.1 ???
If you have upgraded your iPhone 3GS to iOS 4.3.1 and have tried it in your VOLVO please give details here; including year and model of your car.
If I have no reports, good or bad, over the next few weeks I will take the plunge blind and hope for the best! Watch this space for my experiment's outcome.

I see on volvoforums.org.uk the following report:
I updated to 4.3.1 on Friday when it was released and all is working very smoothly with no glitches so far! Both bluetooth and USB are working well. MY11 XC60 D5 (225) AWD

    Hello,
You are correct, Blue tooth low engergy, BTLE.(only) devices are not backward compatible with Classic bluetooth and cannot connect.
However the Apple 4S and above have Bluetooth 4.0 support.. Hardware wise it has bothClassic Bluetooth, like the 3GS, as well as Bluetooth Low Energy.  There is no good reason why your 4s cannot communicate to your Sony in-dash player using the Classic bluetooth that resides in the 4S.
I know that this does not answer the why it does not work, but it should work. Do you have to somehow re-pair the new phone up to the player?  Not  knowing the model of the Sony it is hard to investigate.
And I hate to ask but are you sure that the Bluetooth radio is on in the phone?
