Stereo connections

Reviewing the G5 manual, it says you can connect a stereo receiver to the Mac via the optical audio OUT port. Can you connect one to the audio IN port instead (to play LP's and run the music though the stereo to the Mac for conversion to digital)? I just want to avoid damaging either.
Thanks.

Instead of connecting the receiver input to the G5 output, you can use the optical digital output from the receiver as the input to the optical digital audio-in port on the G5.
It would qualify as "other digital source" - see page 29 here

  • Does iPod nano work with Stereo Connection Kit?

Does anyone know if the iPod nano will work with the Stereo Connection Kit w/ monster cables? Someone bought both for me but the connection kit doesn't say it works with the nano anywhere on the box or in the instructions. Thanks for your help

The dock should work if you line it up right but everything else will work just fine. Realise you need USB to sync with a computer but Firewire is fine for charging.

Can I use my car stereo connected to my iPhone when I have it an Apple watch connected?
In short, I want my phone to connect to my car audio when I'm driving rather than my Apple watch.

Assuming that the Apple Watch and the car system use different BT profiles, it shouldn't be a problem to have the phone connected to both.

Does AirPort Extreme Base Station work with the AirPort Express Stereo Connection Kit? I want to wirelessly play my music from my computer on my stereo.

Does AirPort Extreme Base Station work with the AirPort Express Stereo Connection Kit?
If you are asking if the AEBS can connect to your Stereo using the cables in the AirPort Express Stereo Connection Kit, the answer is No. Only the Airport Express is designed for this purpose.
However, the AEBS is used as the central base station for any number of remote Airport Express units which can use the Airport Express Connection Kit to connect to your stereo.

  • Car stereo connect to Iphone?

Hello, my car stereo is designed for Ipod, it can be directly plugged into the car stereo system and play whatever songs it contain. Now that I've ordered myself an Iphone I were wondering if anyone here know if it will be possible to plug an Iphone into that stereo? Does it have the same kind of plug? and should by stereo be able to detect the music that is saved on it?
    it's this stereo http://www.fusionelectronics.com/en/europe/car-audio-1/headunits-6/cacd500-28-pr oduct.aspx

  • Home stereo and car stereo connection

What are the EASISEST and BEST ways of connecting my iPod to both my home stereo and car stereo. I have done a search already and see that a connector with red and white ends will work with the home stereo. However I already have several items plugged into my stereo already. Also it is kind of difficult to reach the audio inputs on the back of my stereo. Can I just use the headphone input to get quality sound? Will this also work on my car stereo (which has an auxillary input)? I have seen that many recommend a dock, but the ones I have looked up are kind of pricy. Is it REALLY necessary? Thanks in advance.

I just got an Fifth gen video iPod , and part of the gift was a plug in the cigarette lighter power adapter to power the iPod and transmit a signal to the car radio on several select frequencies (about eight different RF settings)..
It was a gift...but I hear the transmitter would cost about a $100...
Works quite well...now - if only my car stereo speakers were only as good as the speakers on my gateway PC...(sigh).

  • IPod Car Stereo Connection

I just recently bought an aftermarket Kenwood, iPod compatable stereo for my car. When I plug in the iPod to the stereo (it has the modulator {direct connection, not FM}), all it plays is the first song on my list. I can't go from one album to the next. Did I set up my iPod wrong, or is it something else? Please help...thank you!!!

I just spoke to Apple tech support. The techie said that they changed the pin configuration and that he did not know of any workaround for in-car charging. He also said that the 4th gen Nano (out of the box) and the 3rd gen Nano (after the latest software update) will no longer go into standby mode when connected to non-apple interfaces. He also said that they are working on it and the standby mode should work again after the next software update.

  • Stereo connections for macbook

is there a "better way" to connect my macbook to my stereo receiver? currently I just run the headphone jack out of the macbook on a cable that converts to RCA plugs for the receiver. this used to work fine, but with my new macbook, there is a problem: if there is no audio played on the macbook for more than about 30 dead-air seconds, something happens where the receiver thinks the cord was "unplugged" and I get huge electronic noise in the stereo speakers (even though the plug was not actually unplugged).
I don't know if I have defective headphone jack, or if the macbook is turning the jack off somehow?
    any thoughts are appreciated, thanks

    Hello,
MacBooks save battery life by turning off the sound card, that is the sound that you are hearing.
Are you just playing iTunes music? If yes, you could get a Apple AirPort Express Base ($100) and stream your music to a stereo that is plugged into the Airport Express Base. There is also a app that you can get that will stream ALL your sound to a AirPort Express.
You can also try turning down your MacBook's volume, and turn up the volume on the stereo.
    Hope this helps!

  • Zoom 3030 stereo connecting to Audigy 2ZS P

Hi. I want to connect my electric guitar to the computer. My soundcard as I sayed it`s Audigy 2 ZS Platinum (There`s no an abbreviation).
I have an electric guitar wich I connect to a ZOOM 3030 effect processor, but this processor hace two /4 jack OUTPUS wich should both be connected to keep stereo features.
How do I connect them to the Souncard and keep the stereo feature.
Specially using ASIO drivers, which I want to use for recordings in FL Studio.

    Nelson,
Hi! Sorry for the delay but the Holiday backed us up a little. As always we can't guarantee a response but this particular question is one that is in an area that I work with a lot (musical recording is a hobby of mine). Anyway as far as your problem goes here is what I do for my keyboard that uses duel mono jacks for stereo output. If you can find a /4'' Stereo to /4'' mono Y splitter then you will be able to connect the two mono outs to the 3030 and the stereo side to the line-in on the Audigy 2 ZS. Most music stores will carry this. If this is not possible here is a way to do it using easily found converters, you will need:
) /8'' to Stereo RCA converter cable (if you can find a /4'' to Stereo RCA this would be better and would eliminate the need for #2)
    2) /8'' Female to /4'' Male adaptor
    3) 2- RCA to /4'' mono adaptors
Plug #2 into the /8'' side of part # and connect that to the line in on the Audigy 2 ZS. Connect both #3's to the RCA ends of #2 and plug them into the 3030. White is left, Red is right.

  • Home Stereo Connections

I just purchased the external soundcard to connect a media pc to my av receiver. I connected the ubs cable and linked the rca plugs with the mini jack to the minijack for my av receiver. I have it connected to a set of video in audio jacks. I am getting no sound through the sound card. Can someone tell me what i have done wrong with the link bertween the creative 5. external audio card and the av receiver. A direct connection from my computer audio out minijack into the rca input jacks produces sound.

    Hi,
Can you please check if the external sound card is selected as the default audio device?

  • 4.1 update - problems with stereo connectivity

I have a high end audio system in my car... Focals, w7, etc etc. It is ran by a avhp3100dvd. Since I updated my iphone4 to the new 4.1 OS, I get random static through the audio system. It is sporadic, lasts 3 to 4 seconds, goes away, and then comes back. It worked earlier today before I did the update. My itouch works fine, so I know it isn't the radio. I restored the iphone4 AGAIN (a clean restore btw, so I just spent an extra hour organizing my iphone again) just to see if the upgrade was corrupted somehow. I still have the same issue. The phone plays like normal with headphones, it is just when the iphone is synced to the radio.
I have seen numerous complaints about the new OS not being compatible with radios after updates. I was very hesitant to purchase the iphone4 because of this, but I tested it before I bought it, and everything worked with 4.0. That is the ONLY reason I purchased the iphone4. I felt like apple forced 3g customers to upgrade after the 4 update made them unusable. 3g phones need to be fixed with the new operating system and PLEASE FIX connection problems with other devices.
It doesn't make sense why an update would mess up connection capabilities with other devices (isn't that a step backward?). The reason why I have purchased apple devices (iphones, macbook, itouch, ipad) is because they typically just work. That hasn't been the case lately. Thanks for reading my rant

Thanks for the rant but it's probably better to contact Apple about this. We don't work for them.

  • I had itunes played from my PC to my music system that is connected through a nework.  It use to work fine, but now I get an error message that say "An error occured while connecting to the Airplay Device "Stereo".  An unknown error occured (-15000)".

When trying to play itunes from my PC to my stereo connected to an Airport Express, I gen an error that says "An error occured while connecting to the Airplay device "Stereo" an unknown error occured (-15000)".  This has happened before and for reasons unknown to me, the problem corrects itself, then it starts again/  Makes me wish I did not have my music on itunes.

moehadi, Welcome to the discussion area!
This is typically caused by a firewall or Internet security software running on your PC. Please read the comments in "Error -3256 or -15000 when streaming to AirPort Express base stations using iTunes".
Also there is "iTunes 8: Unknown error -15000 when attempting to stream music to devices connected to AirPort Express with AirTunes".

About seven years ago I bought a Sharp stereo system and i just got an ipod mini and i was interested in hooking it up. There is no av jack, only a headphones one. • Connect Imac to Stereo via Headphone Jack & 2nd Stereo via Airport Express

I have two whole-house stereo systems; one serving the lower level (basement) of my house and another serving the first and second floors. My iMac is on the lower level. The house was prewired with two coax cables (standard cable TV-type cables) from the area behind my stereo on the lower level to the room where my iMac is located. Using adapters from Radio Shack, I was able to directly connect my iMac to my home stereo on the lower level. I can currently play my iTunes on my lower level stereo by plugging the cable into the headphone jack on my iMac.
I am set up with a wireless network using a Linksys WRT54G. I would like to be able to also stream music from iTunes on my iMac to my home stereo on the first floor. I realize I can do this with the use of Airport Express.
My goal is to be able to play the same music from iTunes on my iMac on both stereos simultaneously. My question is; if I have my lower level stereo connected to my iMac via the headphone jack, will I still be able to stream the same music from iTunes to my upper level stereo via Airport Express? I'm concerned that by connecting the lower level stereo to the headphone jack, the music will not be able to be streamed wirelessly to the upper level stereo.
Thank you in advance for your time.
iMac 24 in.   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Wireless keyboard & mouse, Linksys WRT-54G connected wirelessly

    Hi.
Assuming your iMac is no more than 50 feet from where you intend to locate the express then:
You will need to configure your airport express to join your current wireless network in client mode (otherwise you won't be able to use the internet and the express at the same time).
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302153
In iTunes there is an option to select multiple speakers. Thus you select this and then check the desired options. Hence you can have music coming out of the speakers/hadphone jack on your iMac AND out of the speakers connected to the airport express.

  • Connection with stereo minijack to 2RCA. Subwoofer problem

    Hi,
Can I connect my 5.1 speaker system via ordinary stereo cable stereo minijack -> 2RCA, to connect Rear/Center/Subwoofer? I suppose that I need minijack with 4 contacts to avoid short-circuit signal to ground.
Also why subwoofer plays so quietly when I use AC-3 connection ? When I use stereo connection (i.e. 2.0/2.1 speaker configuration) it plays fine. I used the bass redirection, CMSS, and all possible features. I tried to add bass volume by equalizer, but it looks like it does't work. I mean I did't hear the difference when I turn bass off or add it.

Your description indicates that the jack on the AirPort Express is not making good electrical contact when the plug is inserted. It may be that the jack is a bit out of tolerance. Unfortunately, nothing you can really do about this except wiggle the jack a bit, twist and turn it to see if that helps.
You may need to exchange the Express, but because jacks from various manufacturer's vary slightly, it is not possible to predict whether a new Express will solve the issue for you.
As the Jolly Giant mentions, if you have an optical input available on your stereo amp, that would be the way to go for a simpler connection and probably a bit better sound quality.
