  • Multiple selections to multiple layers or multiple files with one go ?

    Hi,
how to convert multiple selections to multiple layers or multiple files with one go ?
    Thanks!

You may want to ask over at
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop/photoshop_scripting?view=discussions
    or
    http://ps-scripts.com/bb/
I think there are Scripts about for the task or at least ones that could be adapted without too much problems.
The usual approach is, I think, creating a Work Path from a Selection and then using (expanded) Selections based on the individual subPathItems to intersect with the original selection.
Of course there are possibilities for bad results …

  • Moving stereo file from two tracks to one track in timeline

I have a project that I imported from FCP7 to PPCC. The problem is that some of my stereo audio files got placed onto two audio tracks (like they are in FCP7).
I'd like to move these stereo files onto single audio tracks in PPCC. How do this so I can minimize the clutter on my timeline. Please see here:

  • How do I bounce two mono split stereo files to one mp3?

Might sound like a stupid question, but I have several problems:
I bounced a waveburner-mix of my favorite songs as a split stereo file and inserted the two files in two logic mono audio tracks.
First problem: Do I have to pan the left audio-track left and the right to the right or do I keep them centered?
Second problem: The two tracks are louder than the original track. (no matter, if they are panned or centered. Shouldn´t the original have the same volume at my output-channel?
Third problem: Is it possible to bounce more than 2 GB with Logic 8? The mix is very long and when I want to bounce it, logic tells me that it is too big. Can I bounce larger files with logic 9 under OS 10.6?

    Felix Bartelt wrote:
Last question remaining: Can I bounce larger files under Logic 9 and OS 10.7. or does L9 also have the 2 GB restriction?
No and no. The file size restriction is not Logics' restriction, it is a restriction of the file type itself. To be able to bounce longer and/or bigger files, use .caf.
    From the manual:
+AIFF: The AIFF file format cannot handle audio file recordings larger than 2 GB:+
++For 16-bit, 44.1 kHz stereo files, this equals a recording time of about 3 hours and 15 minutes.+
    +For 24-bit, 96 kHz, 5.1 surround files, this equals a recording time of about 20 minutes.+
+WAVE (BWF): The WAVE file format cannot handle audio file recordings larger than 4 GB:+
+For 16-bit, 44.1 kHz stereo files, this equals a recording time of about 6 hours and 30 minutes.+
    +For 24-bit, 96 kHz, 5.1 surround files, this equals a recording time of about 40 minutes.+
+CAF: If the size of your recording exceeds the above limits, choose the CAF (Apple Core Audio Format) file format, which can handle the following recording times:+
    +About 13 hours and 30 minutes at 44.1 kHz+
    +About 6 hours at 96 kHz+
    +About 3 hours at 192 kHz+
+The bit depth and channel format—mono, stereo, or surround— *do not affect* the maximum recording size of CAF files.+

  • Export two TXT files with one button

    Hi,
I'm using Application Express 2.0, i'm developing aplication in which users import few different excel spreadsheets and after that they export date in specified TXT format.
I'w like to create functionality to export two and more files in CSV (TXT) format with one button and one click only in defined folder. It's necessary to simplify work of my endusers becose they have to generate ten or more files.
Is it possible create functionality which generate files in defined folder without any addtional user's action?
    Best,
    Kiril

Create a procedure to output the files, use the oracle directory object to define your output path.
    create or replace directory wayne as '/csv';
use google or metalink to get examples. This way you can output as many files as you want, my personal opinion would be to create a dynamic report your users could run on demand.

  • Can I use the marker option to separate files in one track

Hi, Can anybody give me some advice please on how to record an audio track (speaking) one channel in stereo then split into separate parts like chapters in a book. Its for a charity group Talking Newspaper for the blind. They have readers reading local newspapers clippings which end up as MP3s used like electronic books.
    Thanks

Hi markbrads, in order to come up with some useful advice we have to know a bit more about the production in general:
    a) are you recording / narrating it all by yourself or is it a engineer - narrator setup? How is the microphone connected?
    b) the rec setup is crucial if you do not want to have heaps of edit work (sound wise) afterwards!
    and
    b) to decide on a production technique will depend on how experienced the narrator is. If you are the producer, rec-engineer and narrator all in one person,  then you will have to plan a few thing in advance. The ideal narration production is the one where the narrator reads the script in perfect intonation and all gets recorded in one recording take. However, this seldom is the case! So there is always some editing involved. As producer/engineer you'll have to decide if you want to do corrections on the recording straight away or afterwards. You usually do not want to record 10 A4s of text in one take, split the text in parts and record them separately . Experienced narrators do not panic when mistakes happen, instead they calmly finish there sentence, wait a second and then start the same sentence again as if nothing has happened. The engineer will insert an edit marker without any need to stop the recording. After the recording you'll have to edit the parts and make a continuous narration from it.
So in short, are you engineering, narrating and producing or do you engineer/produce the voice recordings?
    Have a nice day!

  • How do I change my Itunes library to another computer without losing anything or replacing my existing files with ones on the new pc?

I recently broke up with my girlfriend and I'm trying to switch all of my info. around to my new place and pc.  How do I save all of my existing files of music, etc. to the new pc and start a new itunes library using what I already have?  I don't know what kind of info. that I would need about her pc or if I need anything at all.  Can somebody please help?

    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the new computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-part program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...Some third-party programs also allow moving synced photos to the new computer.
    - Make a backup of the iPod by connecting the iPod to the computer and right clicking on the iPOd under Devices in iTunes and selecting Backup
    - Restore the iPod from that backup and sync as necessary.

  • How do I transfer GB files with Real Tracks to Ext. HD?

When I try to transfer files that have real tracks in them to my external harddrive, Copy freezes. It freezes when it tries to copy something like "recording #15. aif" I'm guessing because it can't find that file?
    Any ideas?
Also...this may be related to those annoying GB files that are 200 MB but have no tracks in them. Which are probably files in which I did a LOT of stuff (importing tracks, vocals, etc) but I didn't save it...but the file still has those files stored somewhere. I'm not sure. All I know is...it's a pain.
PS- I THOUGHT I posted this question about a week ago. Now when I come back and look at My Posts, I don't see it listed. Hmph.

When I try to transfer files that have real tracks in
them to my external harddrive, Copy freezes.
this points to a problem with your system, or with a particular file, not gb.
freezes when it tries to copy something like
"recording #15. aif" I'm guessing because it can't
    find that file?
no, Finder doesn't know anything about what files the project uses, so it's not that, it sounds like the file itself is corrupt.
something you might try is rescuing the recordings:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/Tutorials.html#allaboutrescuingfiles
that are 200 MB but have no tracks in them.
Save the file and the misc unused recordings should be removed.
PS- I THOUGHT I posted this question about a week ago.
    i never saw it.

  • Linking files to one track

I've produced some commercials for a client, and exported them out of FCP using compressor. Made the client a DVD. Went well. Now he wants a DVD demo reel with all the commercials in catagories. In other words, one button for car commercials, one for golf courses, etc. Then on the button that says "car spots" He wants me to put all three spots back to back. When I add the other two spots to the timeline in DVDSP, I lose the video when it goes to the second spot. Audio continues, but no video. Is there a way to link all the separate MPEG files together, or do I have to go back and export a combined file in FCP with chapter markers?

    Weclome to the Boards
You should be able to drag each video into the timeline and they should appear in order, sounds like something is amiss, are you sure you and bringing in files that have audio and video? If you have m2v and AC3 files just bring them in. If you have somee more details on what you are doing it may help find out where the issue is
As an aside, the project should be easy to do with stories.
Also download this, a Final Cut Project, DVD SP Project and the m2vs/AC3s I just put up to show you what I am trying to describe (sorry used Bars & Tones, so the sound is kind of annoying )

  • Ottools: tools for encrypting files with one-time pads

    Project page: http://xyne.archlinux.ca/projects/otextract/
    Update
The package was originally named "otsplit" as it only contained that tool. I have since added "otextract" (and maybe others by the time you read this) and renamed the package "ottools". The original post follows. For up-to-date information, check the project page.
    Original Post
otsplit (one-time split) is a file-splitting utility based on the idea of one-time pads. There are two splitting modes. One will use a random input source (/dev/urandom by default) to generate n-1 files and then generate 1 file that can be combined with them to recreate the original file. The other mode will use a pre-existing one-time pad to generate a single output file.
In the first case the file can only be recovered with all of the generated files. In the second case it can only be recovered with the single output file and the input pad. Note that this means that if even one of the required files is lost, the data will be completely unrecoverable. That is a feature, not a bug.
I wrote this a while ago as a quick distraction while procrastinating on something else. After rediscovering it today I decided to clean it up and release it. I expect that there are common tools that do this already, possibly with security features that I have not even considered.
    Some usage ideas:
Exchange a one-time pad on a CD/DVD/usb drive with someone in person and then use otsplit to securely share files via email etc.
Create an archive of files that no one should see until after your death and distribute the files to people you know. Leave instructions and a list of people who received files to be read out at your funeral. Laugh maniacally as you ponder their obliviousness before the paranoia slowly consumes you and you frantically devise a plan to ensure the destruction of at least one file.
Use it to securely host tar archives across different cloud storage providers (assuming that no provider can access the other files).
Become an international (wo)man of mystery with a 70s wardrobe and use it as one of many tools to combat comically incapable supervillains with underwater lairs.
Smuggle information out of countries with oppressive regimes.
Speak with a heavy stereotypical Russian accent while using it and refer to file recipients as comrades of the glorious people's revolution.
    Don't.

I like the idea of otptunnel. It's too bad that it can't be used to transfer pads (I mean, each transferred bit would cost one pad bit resulting in zero net gain)
Then again, you could use that to mask network traffic. Whenever the connection is not transferring encrypted data it could transfer a new encrypted pad equal in length to the remaining pad. The network stream would appear constant to eavesdroppers with no indication of where the actual data begins or ends. In essence you would be recycling the remaining pad. I'm just thinking out loud here so I may be missing something glaringly obvious, but I don't think it would have any effect on security provided each new pad is itself secure (truly random, etc.)
Reading through your page also made me realize that I had not considered securely wiping the pad. In most cases that should probably be left to the user to ensure that the best method is used, but otextract shifts the file data forward and just truncates the end of the file. I'll look into zero-padding the end and syncing to disk before truncating.
I've seen entropy collectors for sound cards before too and they are indeed interesting. There are approaches that use webcam input too (e.g. video_entropyd), and there's also havage (with matching package in the repos). What are your thoughts on those? What about multiplexing the signals from multiple sources? Essentially, if you get just one random bit from any source in the combined stream then that position is random. The more streams you have, the greater the chance of a given bit being truly random (obviously depending on quality of the sources).
(yeah, I ramble when I'm tired)

When you want to add a new episodes to your podcast you don't make a new feed: you add the episode to the existing feed, then subscribers will see it immediately and the iTunes Store will pick it up in 1-2 days. You don't need to resubmit the feed - indeed you can't.

  • Importing Stereo File to Two Mono Tracks?

I have a stereo audio file. I'd like to put it into GB2 with one side of the stereo file as one mono track and the second side of the stereo file as a second mono track.
Is there any way to do this?
    Thanks,
    Leon

Leon, Here is a file explaining what Monomaker does.
Monomaker is a simple mono-merging and stereo-recentering utility plugin.
You can use the mono merge parameter to progressively merge your stereo audio channels into a single mono signal. Turning mono merge all the way up to 1 will make your sound completely mono. Turning mono merge all the way down to 0 will leave your audio unaffected.
You can then recenter your signal using the pan parameter. The panning is equal power (meaning that as you move further over to one channel, sound from the other channel is copied over to the first channel in order to keep the total volume consistent).
Also, in case it's useful, you can re-route the 2 input streams in a variety of ways by using the input selection parameter. "Left-right" means that everything is normal, "right-left" means that the left and right streams are swapped, "left-left" means that you lose the right stream and get the left stream copied to both inputs, and "right-right" means that you lose the left stream and get the right stream copied to both inputs.
Monomaker's signal path is input selection first, then mono merge, then pan.
I have just downloaded it myself and have not looked at it yet. I apologize in advance for not checking it first before posting it. It may or may not help you, and I do not know if it works in Garageband.
Here is the site I got it from
