Stereo from dual LED displays

I've got a workstation with dual 24" LEDs at the office, but I work in a room with another person and am regularly back and forth between headphones and speakers. A few times out of just not wanting to get to the back of the tower and switch the Line Out I went to the system preferences and changed to Display Audio.
This was more convenient for something fast, and each display clearly has left and right channels, but I can't help but wonder if there's a way to set one of the displays to be the left channel and the other one to be the right? If it makes a difference they're both going in over the small, proprietary connector. I don't remember what it's called.
Also, sidenote, the brightness button on the keyboard only adjust one display, not both. I wondered if it would be like the disc drives where you hold option and hit eject and the other display's brightness changes, but not the case. Seems a bit inconsistent, but not a big deal really.

Thanks! Yes I bought the 24" LED display. I love it! Pulled away the glass, with a suction cap but seem quite sacrificial on this display so put it straight back!

  • Is there a shortcut to adjust brightness on dual LED display?

i have a 24" LED display hooked up to a macbook pro. the F1 and 2 keys adjust the brightness on my laptop display, which is dandy, and i can open the display preferences and adjust the slider for brightness on the LED display, but i'd love a keyboard shortcut. is there one? thanks!

There used to be a way in the old Quicktime to adjust the color or brightness of a video if it was too dark to view. It seems this functionality has completely gone away.  Why?
QT is now two decades old and Apple is out to re-write its technology by making a clean break between the old and new. As such, QT X is in its infancy and has yet to reach a point it its development where Apple can refine the "extras" we all miss. My suggestion is to install the dual 32-/64-bit version of QT 7 and use it when you wish to access the A/V control panel. Both QT X and QT 7 can be installed/used simultaneously on the same Snow Leopard system. The QT structure is already embedded in your OS and only requires installation of the QT Player 7.6.6  for Mac OS X.6.3 and later. Note that the QT 7 Player is installed in your "Applications/Utilities" folder and should be left there to ensure proper updates. Also, if you have a valid QT 7 "Pro" key, you can key this player for "Pro" use.

  • Desktop icons disappear when disconnecting LED display

My problem started when I installed snow leopard....now every time i disconnect my laptop from the LED display the icons disappear from the desktop and i have to relaunch finder from the force quit menu. The same happens when i connect my laptop back to the display.
Also the widgets appear out of place and some of them off screen on the laptop
    Any advice?
    Thanks

I had a similar problem when I used my 20 inch monitor, while my 24 was being fixed. When you disconnect it seems to remember where things are in the wrong size, or aspect. Restarting or force quitting applications doesn't help either. You would have to remember to transfer everything over to the MBP display and resize before disconnecting. But some apps that you haven;t run recently would still mess up still mess up.
The way I worked it out was to put the display icon in the menu bar. If things were "off Screen" I would go to the display icon and change the aspect/size. That forces the monitor currently connected to reset, then you can set it back to the resolution you want. I think you only have to do that once, not for every application.
    Hope that works for you!

  • Dual 24" LED displays - how can I set up audio for "real stereo"?

Have two 24" LED displays connected to my MacPro. Can I adjust them in a way that the right stereo channel only comes from the right speaker of the right display (left speaker muted) and the left channel only from the left speaker of the left display (right speaker muted)?
Didn't find any such option in the Audio-MIDI setup or in the Sound control panel...
    Thanks for your ideas!

It can be done with Audio Hijack Pro
    <http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/>
Hijack the audio application in the "Input" tab (or all system sound) and press the mute button. In the "Effects" tab, put a Channel Tweaker effect followed by an Auxiliary Device Output effect in the top row, and also in the second row. Set the top Channel Tweaker to "Kill Right" and its Auxiliary Device out to the left display's speakers. Set the lower ones to "Kill Left" and the right display's speakers.

  • 24" LED Display from DP/HDMI/DVI

I have a 24" LED Display and I'm looking to use it with a homebrew PC. The video card I'd like to buy has output in DVI, HDMI and regular DisplayPort (but not Mini DisplayPort).
I would think that going between regular DP and mini DP would be easy, but I haven't been able to find adapters that go from male DP to female mini-DP. Am I going to need to buy a video card that specifically outputs in mini-DP?
    Thanks

  • Remembering windows positions when switching from/to dual screen display

    Hello,
Most of the time, a second LCD screen is plugged in my Macbook and configured as the main display. When I arrange the windows, I keep iTunes or my mail application maximized on the macbook screen and use the bigger external screen for all other windows.
If I unplug the external display, all the windows are of course moved to the laptop display. When I plug again the external screen, all the windows are moved to the external display. But I would like the iTunes and mail application to remain on the laptop screen.
Is there any utility to remember the windows positions and arrange them automatically when I switch from/to single/dual-screen display?
    Regards,
    Raph

Would DisplayWatcher do what you want? I came across this a couple of weeks ago but haven't had the chance to try it out yet.

  • Dual Apple LED  Display (24") with NVIDIA GeForce GT120 & ATI RadeonHD4870

I have recently purchased a MacPro4,1 Processor Name:Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz with 6GB memory with the NVIDIA GeForce GT120. Then I purchased a ATI Radeon HD 4870 to be able to run the 2 Apple Cinema displays and an external monitor.
I installed the ATI in slot 1 and the GT120 in slot 3. I use different motion software and the computer seems to recognize as the primary card the GT120 and not the ATI. This creates a problem with the different software I use as it uses for processing and rendering the GT120 and not the ATI faster card.
This is also visible when I go to system preferences and change the display preferences and try to shift them around, the first display is the one that has the GT120 card (which is in slot 3)!!!
Also sometimes I get funny characters in some windows.
I spent the extra dollars to get an ATI card but I am not using its capabilities which is inviting me to disconnect the GT120 card... but then I cannot use the second Apple LED display due to its Apple's miserable connector policy. This is telling me that next time I should not buy the monitors from Apple as its connectors are not trully compatible with the hardware they sell.
I searched everywhere but cannot find similar cases which is very strange. Any solution friends?

You could remove the NVIDIA GT120 and connect the second display to the ATI card's DVI port with a DVI to Mini DisplayPort converter.

  • New Mac Mini & Dual 24" LED Displays - Possible ?

I would like to run 2 x 24" Apple LED Cinema displays from a new Mac Mini. Can this be done without any loss of resolution or speed ?

    Thanks woodmeister50 that's very useful.
I should clarify its the 2.5GHz Mini I'm considering with the i7 upgrade option. I already have a 24" LED Cinema display and was thinking of getting another (used) 24" LED display to match it. I'd buy the new Thunderbolt displays however 2 x 27" takes up a lot of desk space !! The alternative would to acquire 2 x HP ZR24 displays and use those instead ?

  • New MacBook Pro with dual Apple 24 LED Display's?

I am about to buy a new MacBook to replace my iMac (which I have an added 22in monitor for dual displays). I really like the new Apple 24 LED Display (except for the price!) and wanted to know if I can have dual Apple 24 LED Display's running off a MacBook Pro.
If not will it work using the dual-link DVI adapter with a splitter? Or if I want to run dual monitors should I look elsewere (none Apple)?
Any helps would be awesome! My kids will love getting my iMac permanently...LOL.

Given that the stumbling block to more flexible power options is the infamous patent-protected MagSafe connector
The funny thing is, I've seen loads of cheap "replacement" MagSafe adapters on eBay, Amazon and in local shops. On eBay, they cost (new) about $26, on Amazon I've seen them as cheap as $17!!, against the $80 that Apple charges. And apparently, it's not worth it to pursue the matter, it's been going on for more than a year now.
made of pure unobtanium and guarded by packs of rabid lawyers, someone is shooting themselves in the foot by making the power bricks so frail that the secondary damaged goods recovery market grows without bounds...
I really dig that unobtainium reference :-)
What I've found is that the bricks aren't so frail but the DC cord is! Apparently that's difficult to make resilient, with the characteristics that Apple wanted them to have. Out of every ten broken MagSafe adapters I've seen, only two actually have failed electronics, five have frayed DC wiring and three have a broken MagSafe connector.

  • Connecting an older MacBook Pro to Current Dual (Mac) Display Monitors

I am thinking of buying dual displays (24-inch) and I have a MacBook Pro I bought in 2007: It's an OS X (10.4.11). I'd like to be able to connect this laptop to the dual displays, but I've read that there may be issues with connectivity with the "old" MacBook Pro laptops to the new cinema displays — if you are connecting to more than one. If anyone has a MacBook Pro from "long ago" aka 2007 or if anyone knows, would you tell me what kind of connector/adaptor works and if I need any additional cards or anything to make this happen. Thanks a lot!

If anyone has a MacBook Pro from "long ago" aka 2007 or if anyone knows, would you tell me what kind of connector/adaptor works
None. The Apple 24-inch LED display can't be connected to a computer which doesn't have a Mini DisplayPort, and only the 2008 Mac Pro models can be upgraded to include one.

Click here for one. The link is to a PDF. Aside from a converter such as this, a graphics card with a Mini DisplayPort is needed.

  • Using New Apple 27" LED Display with old MacBook Pro (Late 2006) 15"

    I've got a MacBook Pro (Model # A1211) Core2Duo 15" 2.16 GHz with only 128 MB of VRAM and a built-in DVI port (I think it is dual-link DVI)
My question is, will the new 27" LED Display work with this machine at its best resolution? If so, what adapter would I need to get it to work?
    Thanks!

I don't think the Kanex adapter is the best one to purchase. The information on their website says it will only drive the 27" at 1280 x 720. Although I have not purchased one yet, the ATLONA website http://www.atlona.com/Atlona-Dual-Link-DVI-to-Mini-DisplayPort-Converter-USB-Pow ered.html, claims their Atlona AT-DP400 converter will drive the 27" at its highest resolution of 2560 x 1440. I have read confirmation from some users that this is the case for the DP400.

  • MacPro 3,1 & 10.6.8 & 5770 & LED Display Not Working

So from what I have read, 10.6.8 on my MacPro and the 5770 should work with this LED display, but I can't get it to even blip. I've disconnected my other monitors, I've reset the PRAM but no love at all. The display works instantly when I plug the mini plug into an older MacBook Pro 17".
What else can I try to get this combo working? Any advice is much appreciated.

If the computer does not have a Thunderbolt port you can't use a Thunderbolt display.  There are no adapters or converters that will help.
Thunderbolt and Mini DisplayPort connectors are similar because Mini DisplayPort displays and adapters have to work in computer Thunderbolt ports.  They won't work the other way round.
