Stereo microphone quest

Which cards support a stereo microphone?
I found a chat site that has setereo sound and wanted to try it out.
I'm looking at getting a Audio Technica..AT-Pro24 stereo mic which uses
a 3.5mm stereo mini-plug.
I currently have a SB Audigy2 card.
Will this card support that mic?

I apologize for any confusion. What version of LabVIEW are you using? I know 7.0 has the example, but I�m not sure what other versions have it. I�ll attach it in case you still want it, but it looks like you have more of a hardware issue/question.
The sound VI�s make dll function calls to C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.0\resource\lvsound.dll. Any mic or line in input should be configurable through this dll. It can handle both mono and stereo, 8-bit or 16-bit. These parameters are returned from the dll call from �SI Read.vi,� and can be viewed directly but putting indicators on the outputs from the dll call inside �SI Read.vi.�
Most any newer sound card should be compatible with this dll. I�m surprised y
ou are having problems. What model/manufacturer sound card are you using? Most cards are now configurable for both input and output. I have an integrated sound card on my home computer. I was able to configure the three lines (line in, line out, and mic) for 6-channel output, 2 channels per line. I�m pretty sure I could configure them all to be inputs as well, but it just depends on the manufacturer.
I just tested the attached VI here at work. I�m on a Dell gx150 with their standard integrated sound card with a line in, line out, and mic. I was able to pick out a sound signal by plugging my speakers into the mic input and tapping them a bit. The line in didn�t work the same, but that may be because I wasn�t using an amplified mic (simply using my speakers).

Digital stereo microphone on 5800 ??? where??

being a sound engineer and involved in different aspects of music production, one of the features that made me purchasing the 5800 was the 'Digital stereo microphone' mentioned in the specifications... (quote):

I didn't find any trace of such digital mic, be it analogue or digital... the in-built mic is of course not stereo, and the mic in the remote isn't also, leave apart being 'digital'
I'd love using my mobile to capture musical ideas on the fly, or outdoor ambiences, but all attempts using the included recorder app are far from acceptable quality, no matter the file resolution or using inbuilt or remote mic...
user ' grschinon' states in the thread /t5/Nseries-Devices-and-S60/5800-mic-or-line-level-input-for-recording-audio/m-p/479174 that an external mic can be plugged in it... could anybody please explain how?

Quad Capsule Spatial Array Stereo Microphone

I wish you buy a Sony HXRNX3D1 NXCAM. But I do not need the shiotgun microphone which is too big and distracting for me. would you make this mic an optional accessory and make available an interchangable Quad Capsule Spatial Array Stereo Microphone like the one available with instead, which would be more handy for travel and to carry around like the NEX VG10 (but not a fixed one). I feel many admirers of Sony proffessional camcorders who want to buy this model is distracted by the huge professional microphone. Also for NEX VG10 the Quad Capsule Spatial Array Stereo Microphone shall be an interchangeable accessory rather than a fixed one, like the lens, which would become a big hit, I am sure.

Which Stereo Microphone

I need to record an orchestra + choir in stereo, but don't want to faff about with hundreds of mics. I need one microphone that I can just plug into my laptop and get on with it...
Any suggestions?

Hopefully this isn't for a CD release or anything. Not that you can't get good quality with a stereo mic, it just doesn't seem enough for an entire orchestra and choir.
Speaking of Danish Pro Audio, DPA, I really enjoy the 4006s. Check out the frequency response on those bad boys. Kinda amazing. The parent company, Brüel & Kjær, originally made microphones for accurate acoustic testing. Engineers later picked up on these microphones and started incorporating them into classical recording.
Anyway, I would suggest 2 4006s for the job. Hopefully the hall is great sounding too. Make sure you don't space them too far away or else you are going to get a sense of a "hole in the center" when recording. You will also want to work with the critical distance, that is the distance at which the direct source and room reverberation are roughly equal. From there you can add more reverb by moving back or less reverb by moving forward.
A nice big stand would help too. Try and get the mics up over the conductors head high enough that the strings aren't too shrill, but clarity of the wind instruments and choir is still there. Always a though thing to do IMHO.
If you want to try some other mics, try the Neumann SM69/USM69 stereo microphone. It's going to have a different taste since it's a coincident pair, but you can play around with the different capsules' polar patterns and setup.
Another idea is Schoeps Microphones. They make an ORTF and XY microphone that you just throw up and it works as it says. You have to do the work positioning, but they are two fine stereo microphones.
Note a lot of these microphones are very expensive. The 4006s are roughly $1,800 each, the USM69 is $5,700, the Schoeps are around $3,750. These are all professional microphones and are famous for "classical" recordings. I suggest you rent some stands and microphones for this job if you can.

Edit: You will want a good interface if you want a good recording. Good converters, pres, and a 24 bit depth is essential. If you are doing this for something cheap to reference and it doesn't have to be good quality, you should buy a pocket recorder. The Zoom, Edirol, and others aren't too bad. Check them out here.

External Stereo Microphone

Does anyone know if there any way to connect an external stereo microphone to the PlayBook? Perhaps using the USB connector?

Bluetooth would be of interest as well (to me). But for my purposes, the latency introduced to by audio stream by Bluetooth makes it much less usable. My strong preference would be for USB support, or a dedicated stereo microphone jack in a future version of the PlayBook.

HOW CAN I CONNECT A STEREO MICROPHONE TO MY SONY HXR-NX5U CAMCORDER?

I recently purchased a SONY HXR-NX5U professional camcorder, and want to be able to connect an external, wired, STEREO mike to it. But I don't quite understand HOW to do it. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
The camera has 2 XLR mike-sockets, each of which is obviously for a MONO, not STEREO, mike.
And the wire of the STEREO mike that I want to be able to connect has a STEREO MINIPLUG (3.5mm), not an XLR plug, at the end
Is the solution about CONNECTING this external STEREO mike as simple as doing what I've TRIED to do (but doesn;t seem to work) -- which is: (a)insert, into the camera's 2 XLR-sockets, 2 XLR-plug-to-phonosocket adapters, (b) plug into those 2 phonosockets a Y-Connector which, at the "Y" end, has 2 phonoplugs and which, at the 3rd end, has a STEREO MINISOCKET for the microphone, and (c) then insert the STEREO mike's miniplug into the Y-connector's minisocket?
That's what was recommended to me and which I've tried, but it doesn't seem to work. Maybe I just don't understand yet how to turn off the camera's built-in mike and turn on this external STEREO mike -- but the built-in mike keeps working and this external stereo mike -- hooked-up this way -- stays inactive.
ANY SOLUTIONS?
ALSO, I've been told that hooking up a STEREO mike this way -- assuming it works -- would give me REDUCED SOUND-QUALITY. Is that actually so? And if so, why -- and what can I do about it?

A few things...
1. If you are still hearing the internal mic check the switches on the side panel and make sure the internal is not being fed to channels 1 or 2. The ability to mix internal/external mics is a feature of the camera.
2. How are you powering the mic? If it doesn't have it's own battery/power supply it is expecting phantom power from the camera which it will not be receiving via the adaptors.
3. If the mic has its own power you should be able to do this via the Y cable provided the inputs are set to MIC and the side switches are set to INPUT 1 and INPUT two for each channel.

LabVIEW has a set of SI-Config/Read/etc VI's that take data from the computer's microphone input. A configuration option is Mono-versus-Stereo. Does anybody have a list (or even one example) of Stereo sound input cards that work with these LabVIEW SI VIs? (Including information such as: Microphone or Line level)

Do A200 series have Mono or Stereo Microphone jack?

In specifications all Toshiba laptops including 7 years old A series, and new C, S, P seris indicate Microphone jack as Mono. But I have A215 and have stereo mic and the recorder program recognizes both channels. Is the "mono" misinterpretation or the specs wrongly indicated it as Mono?

I mean that there are clips, most of the time interviews, seen as stereo cause they have two mono audiotracks. Other clips (most of the time b-roll) do have one audiotrack (ambient noise) and are seen as dual mono. When I select all the clips I got the "-"
Or, just figuring now, should I just deselect the import option remove silent tracks? So every track will be imported even when there is no audio on it.
btw why is there no option two import everything mono in stead of stereo? Of do I miss something?

Live 24 microphone quest

Hi i'm a semi noob when it comes to tinkering with stuff so I need help with this. I just upgraded from my on board sound to a li've 24 card. I use my microphone with Ventrillo for gaming and now that im using my li've 24 card for the plug in, My microphone is li've all the time creating feedback.
Any ideas how to correct this? Thanks in advance

Just set mute option in your creative mixer (if you installed just drivers - in windows mixer). That should fix it.

"Stereo" microphone?

Finalizing my first iMovie project. I want to do a voice over on some scenes and have plugged a microphone in the proper jack. However, sound comes out only on 1 side instead of 2. I should be hearing in both ears. Why is that? Can anyone help?

MSi ge60 0nd stereo microphone

Ge60 0nd claims that the built-in mic is stereo. so it means that there are two mics that were placed. when i try to record, it only records mono. It is mono because i tried speaking to the left and right mics and the headphones left and right speakers are working. they should sound independently right? when i try to speak in the left mic of the laptop, it is loud compared to the right mic. so i think only that the left mic is working but in mono. so i think mSi's claims are wrong?

X-Fi microphone/Line-in flexjack quest

im looking at a new pair of headphones, and my friend has the SoundMAX array microphone that comes with the newer Asus motherboards. I understand that this specific microphone is to be used with a stereo microphone jack.
my question is will the X-Fi work properly with this stereo microphone without being amped at all? i understand the flexjack will work with 2 channels when set to "Line-in" but every situation that i read about with stereo microphone setups has the mics being preamped.

Hi?I've been working on solving a mic problem with my X-Fi sound blaster card and the SoundMax Superbeam Array2-S. I can't get the card to recognize the mic. The mic is connected to the flexijack. In the Creative Game Mode Console under settings, the Digital I/O is grayed out and I cannot set it to either Digital I/O or Mic-in/Line-in. Any ideas?Sincerely,?Luis

Microphone not working in hp2000 windows 8 notebook. Neither internal or stereo please help

I really need help with my microphone. So neither my internal or stereo microphones are working. I test them by taking a video with my webcam and listening but you can barely hear my voice. The most you can hear is when i hit the touch pad to stop the video. It picks up my voice better when i put my face right up to the microphone but i can't do that while im on webcam because the microphone is right next to the camera. Can anyone please help me fix it so that I dont have to be right next to the microphone for it to work?!
