Stereo mp3 or not

Help - I don't know if the tracks I'm using are stereo or not. I've recorded a sound tour in wav and converted to mp3 in Audacity. There are clearly 2 distinct tracks/channels (L and R) when the waves are seen in the Audacity editor. However, when I drag that file to a Track in GB, with Stereo Channel 1 and 2 inputs selected, I see two waves - but these are simply identical when examined under the editor, not different waves as they are when seen in Audacity. Is this real stereo or is it simply putting in two mono tracks? I noted the same thing when putting an mp3 music track in - it looks like two identical tracks (channels), yet when the same file is opened in audacity, there are clearly two similar but distinct waves.

This is going to be a test for your ears. Play back the track and close your eyes. If you hear the same thing in both ears the whole time then you are correct in your assumption. If not, then chalk it up to GB's bad waveform drawing. Not very accurate at all. GB isn't the best real audio app in the world. It's really more for the software instruments and loops.

  • Edirol R-09 "Joint Stereo" MP3's do not import

Recently acquired an Edirol R-90 digital recorder. It works great, but I cannot import the MP3 files it creates into Garageband for a podcast. The R-09 creates "joint stereo" MP3 files (no option to change this, though I could use larger WAV files)
The MP3 files transfer fine to my Mac, play fine in iTunes or Quicktime, and are seen and can even be previewed in Garageband. But when you drag the file to a track, nothing appears after the Garageband import file(s) progress bar.
If I convert the original file to MP3 again in iTunes, a standard stereo version is created, and that file can be imported without a problem.
Since I cannot surmise any other differences, it appears Garageband cannot import mp3's in a joint stereo format. Can anyone confirm this? There is not an option to turn joint stereo off on the R-09 either...
    Thanks

Ah, something just occurred to me: Is the file extension of your recordings ".MP3"? Then you might change it to lowercase ".mp3" and see what happens.

    Hi there
Sorry, my crystal ball appears to be broken and my psychic skills aren't quite there yet.
What operating system are you using? If you come back and say Vista 64 bit, you need to know there are lots of different issues involved with this OS. There is not a Captivate version to date that has been blessed by Adobe to say it will work flawlessly with this OS.

Can you download the music to any mp3 player (not an ipod)?  If yes, how?

    Not using itunes.
You can use the music on other music players that support the format that itunes uses.
Consult the manual for instructions on how to put music on the player.

  • Mp3 Player not showing?

I have a cheap mp3 player (not iPod) that is not showing anywhere when I plug it in. Prior to installing Lion, it showed up no problem (on desktop, in disk utility etc) even when using the keyboard usb port.
    Any suggestions please?

It may not be compatible with Lion.
Check the manufacture website for Lion compatible updates.

  • MP3 will not add in itunes

I have a mp3 file that when I add into itunes, it doesn't add or give an error message, but, plays fine in quicktime.
The file format is MPEG Layer 3 stereo 44.100 kHz with a data rate of 125.86 kbits/sec and 2 channel stereo.

+"it doesn't add or give an error message, but, plays fine in quicktime"+
That is standard iTunes usability-speak for "this file is not compatible with iTunes, even though it plays fine in other players." iTunes is very sensitive to slight variations in MP3 headers and tags. The only remedy I have found is to process the file through Audacity, Switch, VBRfix, or some other program that will output a new "clean" MP3.

  • Mp3 cd not mounting in yosemite

Mp3 CDs that I have burned in iTunes won't mount since installing Yosemite on my iMac.

I had this problem with my car stereo.
I found out that my car stereo had problems with the ID3 tags in the mp3 files I burned on my disks.
I solved the problem by choosing 'advanced' - 'convert ID3 tags' and select version 2.2 (2.2 means you will not lose your artwork), before burning with iTunes.

  • Some .mp3 files not playing in itunes?

I can't seem to play some of the .mp3 files in itunes 10 that I was able to play before the upgrade. For example in the rip I have of The Beatles - Abbey Road 2009 Stereo Remaster, only 3 of the 17 tracks can be imported into the itunes library. When I try to import the missing .mp3 files it won't even add them under the abbey road album. And it won't play either. The missing files play fine in windows media player, quicktime, vlc media player and others. What's going on with this new itunes update? Thanks to anyone that can help out.

    Hello,
I have the same problem here in Belgium/Europe after upgrading to iTunes 10.
About 10gb of 310Gb in total is not readable anymore. I use only mp3 320kbps.
You can still find them back in iTunes, but no playback anymore.
I have deleted them from the list and do a "add to library". Impossible to import this data anymore.
What is strange is that this mp3 data can be used in QuickTime Player.
And..the same data is not readable on a another (Windows 7) pc with iTunes 10, neither on a pc with Vista and iTunes 9.2.
    Who can help ??

  • Mp3 will not sync from iTunes desktop to iphone

    Hi All,
I have some mp3 files (voice recordings purchased from Darren Hardy) that I imported into my iTunes Library just fine on my Mac OSX desktop.
However, those files simply will not sync up with my iPhone like the other 1900-odd songs in my library do just fine.
I'm not a total dope, but this one's got me baffled.  I've tried reboots, resyncs, changing the files from music to audiobooks, nothing obvious seems to work.
And BTW, there's no indication in the Get Info box that there is any DRM on them.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Chris.

  • Certain MP3 Files not transfered because They Cannot Be Played on This iPod

I've been using iPods for awhile, and besides the usual iTunes for Windows glitches, I haven't had many problems. Yesterday I tried to transfer an album I had added to my iTunes library over to my iPod (will play in itunes, did not buy from Apple store, fits iPod codec requirements (256kbit MP3s)), and I recieved the message that the files will not be transfered because they cannot be played on this iPod. I tried updating everything, and then even reinstalling everything, and nothing worked. I cannot get these files that play perfectly in iTunes and other programs and fit the description of what works with an iPod to do just that, work with my iPod. Any suggestions?
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 1.92 GHz, 1GB RAM   Windows XP Pro

First make sure your iPod software is up to date, the latest is Updater 2006-03-23. you can get it at http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
Also you may want to go here to follow some suggestions on songs that play in iTUnes and won't transfer to iPod http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93867
Play the songs in another player and see if there corrupt or something
You may want to try a thrid party program on the net to convert the files, or you could do a 2 step process of having Windows media player convert them to WMA files, then opening iTunes and having iTunes convert the files from WMA to MP3 or whatever format you have iTunes to Import files. this converting my degrade the sound slightly, but atleast you would be albe to add them to your iPod and you most likly won't notice THAT much of a difference

  • Files converted from m4a to mp3 are not displaying correctly in feed

hi; i recently produced my first show in garageband (after using a bunch of other audio apps in the past), exported to an m4a file, and converted to mp3 in itunes, but it is not showing up as an audio file in my feed.
the feed is http://feeds.feedburner.com/wellroundedradio and my blog posting on it is http://wellroundedmedia.blogspot.com
is there something you need to do when converting from m4a to mp3 in itunes to make sure the settings are all correct so it will be enclosed as an audio file? i have tested other mp3 files in the feed and they are working fine.
    thx, charlie
