Stereo sound into 7.1

Hey guys,
Anyone know a tutorial i can follow or some setps on making windows media player play stereo sound (two channels) into 7.1 sound? I have been told that some players have a setting to convert stereo sound into 7.1 surround sound. Any help is appreciated.

Hi, I am needing to import some sound which is stereo. On the flash card it came on I have channel 1 and channel 2...now being primarily a avid editor im used to selecting the both clips and it links together to make one when imported. I have found when I import these into FCP it brings them up as seperate mono tracks...I need them to be linked as i'll be doing multiclips for A and B cameras....
Also in my tracks section it says 2A for both audio tracks...Is there something im missing or I need to do in order to get it to work.

Hi, could you be more specific? I have tried marking in points on both channels 1 + 2 at the clapper board...I then dropped them onto the sequence separately and then selected that...then did the Stereo pair thing...however its not doing it...what is it im doing wrong?

Upconverting Stereo sound to Surround 5.1 or higher?

Does something of the sort exist for linux? I'm just having a hard time living without the "CMSS-3D" feature of the windows soundblaster drivers. They also have an alternative called DTS:Connect which includes DTS:Neo PC (which i could use) and DTS:Interactive, is there any way to utilize those functions of my card?
Creative's Crystalizer and Sound Volume Management i can live without in fact i can live without everything except equalizer and Stereo to Surround conversion, it's the latter i'm having a hard time finding on linux, do you know any solution to this problem?

Right now i'm just focusing on converting stereo sound into 5.1, i'll need to play a bit with the config file (since i have very rarely configured it) to test that function though so i don't know yet if i need any additional effects or distortion, but it would be nice to know about which ones are available, i quite like tweaking my sound to perfection, thats why i even have a soundblaster card to begin with.
Quoting Wikipedia on an effect that i do like to use (Crystalizer, but as i said before i don't think it's something really important to me)
Creative Labs states that the primary function of the Crystalizer is to "restore portions of the sound which were lost during compression". The "compression" that is meant here is not the digital file-size reduction achieved by digital audio data compression technologies like for example mp3. Rather, the idea is to reverse the effects of dynamic range compression, an analog technique that was and is used during the production of most 1990s and newer Audio CDs (with the exception of some classical music recordings) to make them sound louder at the same volume level setting, as it was found that subjectively louder CDs get more airplay and sell better. To achieve this loudness without introducing strong distortion, points in the signal where the volume reaches a maximum are compressed (which means in this case: reduced in volume), then the whole signal is multiplied by a factor so that the maximum volume is reached again. After this, the music as a whole is louder than it was before, but the maximum volume points (mostly transients) are not as pronounced as they were before. Since this whole process is done before the final Audio CD is recorded, its effect is equally present in uncompressed audio files created from such a CD, in lossless compressed audio made from the CD, as well as in lossy compressed audio from that same CD. Transients are typically found in percussive sounds, in plosive consonants of voice recordings, and during the first few milliseconds (the so called attack phase) of non-percussive instrument sounds. All these tend to be somewhat muffled by dynamic range compression.
To undo this effect, the Crystalizer uses a multiband compander (compressor/expander) with dynamically adjusted compression/expansion. Its main function is to detect transients and to increase their relative volume level. As a consequence of enabling the Crystalizer, the signal is altered, and whether the result improves upon the input audio is purely a matter of perception and can depend on the type of audio being played.

Audio - recording high quality stereo sound with iPhone 3Gs

There are a number of excellent sound recording apps now available for iPhone - notably RecTools 08 (8 track, PCM) but no way to get stereo sound into the device. To date both Belkin and Griffin state their stereo microphones (designed for iPod) will not work with iPhone because Apple has not enabled audio input via the dock connector.

How do I convert analogue 5.1 surround sound into a digital signal? (Pioneer SE-DIR800C headphon

I understand that my SB Audigy 2 card will only output 5. sound from games through its 3 analogue connectors. How do I convert this analogue signal into a digital one? What hardware do I need to purchase?
I have read the thread on "Digital Connections, SPDIF and Dolby Digital Info", and also I've thoroughly read the "Creative Speaker Connectivity Guide".
The reason I ask is that I have just bought a pair of Pioneer SE-DIR800C Surround Sound headphones. This are supposedly fantastic for recreating surround sound on headphones because there is a clever little decoder box. They accept a DTS / Dolby Digital signal via the digital co-axial and optical inputs, and there is a single analogue input which only accepts stereo sound.
My XBox and PS2 will output true digital 5. sound via an optical cable and I am confident this will work perfectly with these headphones. I'm really looking forward to playing Halo in surround sound! But for gaming on my PC, I'll be limited to just an analogue stereo signal. Well, unless I can find some device that will convert my SoundBlaster's analogue 5. outputs into a digital signal, which I can then plug into the little decoder box for these headphones.
So, back to my question:
What hardware do I need to buy to convert an analogue 5. signal (via 6 x RCA or 3 x 3.5mm stereo ) into a true digital signal (via optical or co-axial SP/DIF)? Is it some type of headphone amplifier I need? If possible, please recommend makes & models of equipment.

OK, basically I have found 3 options for getting digital 5. out of a PC:
a) Creative DTS-60 (approx $90). This converts the SB's analogue into digital, but it's not available in the UK and it also introduces a noticeable 50ms sound delay. Also, who wants an extra box hanging out of their PC?
b) Buy a new sound card which has Dolby Digital Li've output. For example, ) BlueGears HDA X Mystique 7., or 2) Turtle Beach Montego DDL, or 3) Terratec Aureon 7. PCI (NOT the Space, FireWire or Uni'verse cards). I couldn't find the first two available in the UK so I have just ordered the Terratec card from Komplett.
c) Buy a new motherboard that has built-in Dolby Digital Li've output, for example the ABIT Fatalty AA8XE. Unfortunately my PC is only just over year old and I'm not quite ready to replace it.

Hii, I have a X-Fi Xtreme music and a 5. speaker setup, can someone tell me how can I get stereo sound from all of my speakers? thanks in advance.

Hmmm, I don't have an X-Fi, but to answer your question the first thing someone needs to know is how you have your speakers connected. If, for example, you're running throgh a receiver you need to separately output each channel (using 3.5mm mini plug to RCA cables/converters you would buy at Radio Shack) to the external decoder of your receiver. Of course, in that insance, you would output the DD source stream from the optical out of the card through the optical in of the receiver; stereo playback would be from a 2. signal. I run both configs on mine. Now, if you're running computer speakers already plugged into the correct outputs of the sound card that's a different question, and it's one I can only relate from my experience with the Audigy 2 software.

Stereo Sound on export swf

When I export my swf to Dreamweaver for a music site and test
it in Safari, the mp3 sound has been changed to mono and the sound
quality is poor.... so I looked on my export settings and It won't
let me use stereo for mp3s..... I'm still using MX 2004.... is any
version of Flash stereo compatible? Or any other suggestions how to
get stereo mp3s into my site besides just embedding them in the

All versions of Flash can output stereo, including from mp3s.
Go to Publish Settings, click on "Set" for both Audio categories.
If you set the bit rate to higher than 16, you'll get better sound
quality and the option of stereo. Realize that enabling stereo will
seriously downgrade the sound quality, since the resources are now
split between two channels. So you'll need to increase the bit rate
further to compensate.
If you still don't see the stereo option enabled after
increasing the bit rate, then perhaps your MP3 is encoded at an odd
bit rate, which can give Flash indigestion.
It's always best to start with non-lossy audio source files
such as WAV or AIFF when importing into Flash, then let Flash
handle the compression.

No stereo sound from I/O

Hey all! I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro card, and for some reason I cannot get any stereo sound (only mono) from the I/O hub, both through the headphone out, as well as through the headphone out on a MIDI controller plugged into the hub via firewire.
5. Surround Sound works in all 5 speakers connected through the analog miniplugs on the card, and stereo sound works through the headphones when they are plugged directly into the speakers via a headphone out there.

Can't get Surround Sound from a stereo sound file

I have tried multiple times to get the surround panner to work on any of the stereo clips that are included with STP2, but it stays in stereo. If I put the surround panner all the way to anything but the left or right channel I get NO sound. Surround sound is working fine for clips that are 5.1.
Anyone have any clues as to why this is not working?
If I pick a audio clip that is surround, the panning works and sounds fine. But looking at the demo movie on Apples website, it should be no problem to put a stereo file into any of the surround speakers.
I got a new HD coming and I am going to install everything fresh.. OS and all and see if that fixes things.

I'm not sure if this helps because I new to this having only picked up Soundtrack Pro for the first time a couple of weeks ago, but I was having the same problem until I moved the widner on the Surround sound HUD to full (fully to the right). Suddenly my stereo went into all 5 channels! (I'm trying to make 5.1 from stereo at the moment) Now I could move the puck and the sound would go to that speaker. But yeah... it's something i don't see in the manual and had to figure out for myself. Only took two weeks...

Left and right channels of stereo sound coming only from left spea

The title says it all. I can't figure out what's wrong. I checked all the settings I can think of, but nothing seems out of place. It's not the right channel cutting out, but both channels coming from the left speaker (I used the speaker test feature to confirm this). This just happened out of nowhere when I booted up my pc. Any idea what's wrong?

Did you ever fix this problem? I have the exact same thing happening to my sound.
All the sound comes from the left in stereo sound. I plugged the green stereo analog speakers into the other pin the blackone for 4. setting on my SBLi've24 allthe others play fron t left back left and back right but the front right is so soft like a whisper.
So the speakers work. Im running a Xp mediaedition system. It happened after an apparent sound conflict that made an electronic popping sound which got progressi'vely worse until i figured out how to reset the car d in the Bios level. I have done evrything but reformat the hard dri've All tests say the hardware is working but still no front right channel. Help please

in india its a pain to get a toslink to mini adapter ...finally i found one and connected the mini end to headphone jack behind my imac...
(imac 21.5 mid june 2011) and optical end to my hometheatre ...
in audio midi setup the multichannel option is set to stereo 2ch 16 bit..
perian is installed and set to use dolby prologic..
i only get stereo sound from itunes,vlc or movist or even xbmc and boxee...tried them all configured the audio to use 5.1 but no luck,

Hello John, I figured it was a signal issue. All the speakers fire and the sound is great. I was running the speakers thru a Dell PC with a Creative X-Fi Elite Pro, THX Certified, 7.1 soundcard using a fiber optic from the Mac Pro to the Z906's, it worked great until the Dell died!!! When I bought the soundcard from Creative I also bought the GigaWorks S750, THX Certified, 700 watt, 7.1 speaker system, used the speakers for 11 years and then the woofer/amp said "I QUIT" Creative quit making the speaker system and the sound card. The satellite speakers from the Creative GigaWorks speaker system still sound great (rated at 78 watt each) and are a little better speaker than the one's that came with the Z906 and the wattage from the 906 is sufficient to drive the satellites without any distortion. Thank you for addressing my issue, you confirmed what I suspected all along, just needed to hear it from someone with the same setup.
One last question, I purchased a Diamond Multimedia USB Soundcard, can't use the fiber optic(not supported by Mac) but the green, tan and black RCA's plug in and produces adequetly. When you plug your 906's into the Mac Pro using the fiber optic how do you set your speaker configuration? When I plug into the mac pro with fiber optic the 'Audio Midi Setup' does not seem to see the 5.1 configuration. Any thoughts there?

Remove Stereo Sound

I am editing a short film and the "audio guy" turned the recording levels down so low that now that I have increased the audio levels and added gain to get a normal conversation level there is a stereo sound. any suggestions!?

Alright sorry i was ****** at the moment when writing that post. Okay now that everyone has made a joke out of my post.. I will humble myself and say sorry for the confusion and poor attitude.

SO, what I was trying to say was,
The director payed someone to do sound for us 75.00 a day for a 4 days and what happened was the sound guy had set the levels on his mixer at such a low level that once I pulled the sound into post I had to turn the levels to 12 and then add gain to 15.. Now if you can imagine this created noise to the sound clips. How do I describe that noise? I described it as a stereo sound. God forbid, I have absolutely no knowledge in the audio side of things.. What other word could I use.. Feedback sound? umm I am not sure either way you can imagine if you took a clip that was recorded at such a low level and cranked it up your audio would sound like TRASH!
So my question was if anyone had any suggestions for eliminating that almost static sound from the tracks. Low Pass Filter? I tried compressing it in SoundTrackPro but as you can imagine it gave it that compressed almost robotic sound.
Okay well hope that clears some stuff up ladies and gentlemen..

Cant get stereo sound with alsa

i installed arch about 5 or 6 months ago and setup alsa for sound
The problem is that only the left speaker is working. Somehow i have gone all this time without ever noticing. I probably would still have not noticed except i booted into windows the other day, for the first time in about a year, and realized that I had two speakers working with media player.
i've scanned through the wiki and done some google and forum searching, but i can't seem to find anything about getting stereo sound to work with alsa.
Is anybody else having this problem? What can i do to make both speakers work?

Importing sound into Premier Pro CS3

I have a Sony HDR-XR100 HD video camera. It saves files with an .m2ts extension. This extension is not supported by CS3. Using Sony's PMB (Picture Motion Browser), I convert the .m2ts files to .mpeg2. When I import these files into Premier, they appear, but have no audio. How do I import the audio? Thanks.

I put it in the main Premier folder, presumably like you did, and it worked. I'm not real familiar with Macs, but the folder I put it in was "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS3". There are several other files there with similar names. If that doesn't work, I'm lost, since obviously I had to come here for help myself :).

Hey, I'm using CS for Mac and I'm having the same issue , importing .mpg into PPro and get no audio.
I found the ad2ac3dec.dll file online but I'm not sure what folder to place it in. I've found the folder named Adobe Premire Pro CS3 and just pasted it into that but it didn't work.
My camera only records in .mpg and I really don't want to spend money on a converter after spending a bucketload for CS3...
Any help would be much appreciated!
