Stereo speakers to audio video hook ups

is it possible to hook up stereo speakers by themselves to the back of my tv...how do i convert to speaker wire to audio jacks. what do i need to do this with
Solved!
Go to Solution.

No, it is not possible to do so because tv's do not have the required amps inside to sustain the power of the speakers. You would have to buy a stereo receiver. (i.e. 5.1 receiver)

  • Hook ups

I recently purchased a Apple TV. However, I have an older model Sony Grand Vega LCD Projection TV that has HD capabilities however, does not have an HDMI port, rather it has a DVI-HDTV IN VIDEO port. It shows it needs a DVI-D single link cable. What do I exactly need and how do I hook up the system to sync with the computer.

Short answer is no - Verizon does not support the A/V inputs on their STBs.
You could go to Radio Shack (or someplace similar) and get an RF modulator that automatically switches to your  A/V device when it is powered on.

  • No audio through stereo speakers

My old school stereo (Nakamichi receiver and bose speakers circa 1990) is hooked up to my HD TV via RCA cable and works great. However, my new Apple TV which is attached to my TV via HDMI will not put audio through my stereo speakers. I only have audio through my TV. Also, my old receiver has no optical audio input or output, RCA only.
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your suggestion marcam1. I ended up plugging everything into the TV and letting it convert the signal to analog and sending it to the amp. Added bonus is I don't have to change the mode on the receiver now. So happy to have this working that I may have blown my first tweeter in decades. Thanks again marcam.

  • Convert from component cable to Stereo A/V + S-video for AppleTV

    Hello,
We are looking for a converter cable, box, hub that will convert from component cable (red/blue/green) to Stereo A/V + S-video. We are hooking up a AppleTV box to an older Sony WEGA TV.
Anyone heard of such a product or work around?
We have not made the move to HD and would be bummed if this cannot work.
    Thanks.

http://www.svideo.com/appletv2tv.html has a product that allegedly does this. I haven't used it, so you might want to do some more investigation before handing over the cash! It looks a lot cheaper than other Component->Composite converters out there. You would connect the yellow output from this box to the yellow input on the front of your TV (video). The red and white connectors on your AppleTV to the red and white on the front of your TV (audio). The unit also has an S-Video output, which you should use in preference to the composite if your TV supports it (higher quality).
    HTH.

  • Connecting Stereo Speakers

I'd like to connect regular stereo speakers, that is, those with RCA cables, to play music from my iBook G4. Griffin Technologies used to sell a pre-amp called the PowerWave and a nifty inexpensive adapter, but both have been discontinued. Can anyone recommend other third-party peripherals that will do the trick? Any advice would be most appreciated.

Just an fyi, I checked the ads for radioshack and found nothing less than $149.00 . Circuit City had one advertised for only $79.00, and I'm sure a search of the megalomarts would find others.
As for the Griffin powerwave, even the least expensive home audio receiver will have far superior audio specs to that. The limiting factor in hooking up an ibook to a home stereo is the iBooks audio processing and your encoding method. regardless of that, I use my 14" ibook in my home entertainment center and find it worthwhile. I used a sound blaster audigy card when I was on Windows, and although technically there is a difference, these old ears do not notice it anymore.
By the way, I did find a few retailers still selling the powerwave if you are intent on it, although honestly, I'd go the home receiver route.

  • IDVD 08 audio/video sync drift toward end of DVD movie - fix/workaround?

Anyone know how I can fix this issue? It's driving me crazy.
I've just spent a few evenings in iMovie 08, editing together the video of my son's birth. All looked & amazingly good in iMovie. The "Large" .m4v file output by iMovie - Shared with the Media Browser - plays perfectly in Quicktime too.
However, after adding that shared movie to iDVD 08, and burning a DVD, I noticed that the audio sync drifts toward the end of the Movie when plated back. At the start of the DVD all seems well, but by the end of the ~1hr 20 minute movie the audio is unbearably out of sync with the video. Completely unwatchable.
After a little Googling I came across some reports that iDVD might not deal well with video that's been recorded with 12-bit audio. I've confirmed that my camcorder is (was!) set to 12-bit rather than 16-bit (the default, I'm sure). So if that's the problem I'm hosed... it's not like I can get a retake on that footage
Is there a reasonable workaround for this issue? I'm obviously unable to re-take the video (or the other 10 hours of DV video tape I've yet to use in an iMovie project). Ideally I'd like Apple to release a patch for this. Shouldn't it be possible for iDVD to account for audio that was originally recorded in 12-bit... even if it's just a checkbox you have to select to tip it off?
Then again, perhaps this is totally unrelated to the 12-bit issue, and this is just a run of the mill bug?
As I said... iMovie generates a MPEG4 video file of the Movie that looks/sounds perfect, so it seems this sync issue's being created somewhere in iDVD as it's rendering the audio/video to burn to the DVD...
    Thanks in advance.

I've tried most of the options I can think of, and the audio sync drift issue continues on this ~1hr 12 minute iMovie/iDVD 08 project.
A couple of promising ideas tried used QT Pro, to export the audio track from the iMovie generated MPEG-4 file - as a WAV file, resampling to 48kHz and 16-bit... then Adding this back to the video track in the MPEG-4 file (having deleted the original audio track). In another test I also tried the Add to Selection and Scale option. Oddly enough I think the Add to Selection and Scale attempt generated more sync issues than before in the final DVD movie... so I stuck with the MPEG-4 file containing the video track and the added, resampled at 48kHz & 16 bit, WAV audio track.
This was saved as a self contained Movie file, producing a QT .mov file. I moved this .mov file into the iDVD projects directory structure so that it was avalable in iDVD's Media Browser. I then reworked the iDVD project to use this QT large.mov file, instead of the original iMovie large.m4v file.
As a reminder... the original large.m4v file has the following properties:
    29.97 FPS H.264 Decoder, 960 x 540, Millions
    AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz
    0:01:12:07.16 duration
The resampled and saved QT MOV file has the following properties:
    29.97 FPS H.264 Decoder, 960 x 540, Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
    0:01:12:07.16 duration
BOTH versions of this Movie file play flawlessly within QT Pro... there's no audio sync drift evident toward the end of the movie unless I use iDVD 08 to burn either movie file to a Physical DVD (or DVD Disk Image). In both cases the resultant DVD Movie exhibits significant audio sync drift as the ~1hr 12 minute movie progresses. The sync goes out by ~ <= 1 second based on a rough visual assessment.
I've not yet tried to burn either the original iMovie produced MPEG-4 video file or my QT Pro tweaked audio track .MOV file version to a DVD on my PC...
... But I have used an application called Burn (referenced in this earlier/archived iDVD sync drift forum post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1332100 by user F Shippey - http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/) to take the QT Pro tweaked .mov file version of the original MPEG-4 file and burn it to a DVD...
    Results:
The Burn app burnt DVD plays with NO audio sync issues!... Even though it was generated from the same audio tweaked (48kHz/16-bit resampled) QT Pro .mov file.
However, whenever I burn a DVD using iDVD 08 the audio sync gradually drifts. It matters not whether I use the original iMovie 08 generated MPEG-4 movie file, or the QT Pro version of that file with the resampled audio track (the same one that works fine with Burn).
It sure looks to me like iDVD has a problem... Again, refer to http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1332100 for someone else who seems to have run into similar challenges.
    Am I overlooking something?
    Thanks in advance.

  • I just moved my itunes library from a win 7 computer to a win 8.1 computer. Getting an error message "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. Can't play CDs or get audio file from web!

Help! I just moved my itunes library from a Win 7 computer to a new Win 8.1 computer following the instructions on the itunes website. Everything is good except I'm getting an error message on the Win 8 computer if I try to play a CD or get an audio file off of the internet. I get an error message that says "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. I don't know where to look for or fix the audio configuration on the win 8 computer. As far as I can tell the iTunes configuration looks the same as on the other computers in the house. At this point I don't dare plug my ipod touch into the Win 8 computer for fear it will get messed up.

I have the same problem and I know that it is due to my PCI Audio driver not being compatible with WIndows 8.1.
iTunes isn't the only program that can't direct sound to the built-in speakers anymore. The obvious solution would be to update the drivers, but unfortunately Dell does not provide an updated driver for my model, so I am stuck with that.
However, saying that, only my laptop speakers are affected by this. I can use sound fine on applications where I can choose the output device and direct sound to the head phones, but for some reason iTunes does not let you choose the audio device manually.
To listen to music I imported the iTunes Library in Windows Media Player and changed the audio output using the following instructions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/c00d11ba
However, I would also like to rent movie's from iTunes,
Would be great if iTunes would let you choose the output device, too, like most other applications using sound  from Skype to Windows Media Player,...

  • 'Source play' and 'audio-video sync' problems with PE8 on fast WIN7 64 bit computer

I am transferring Hi8 videos, about 2 hours long, to my WIN7 64 bit computer with PE8.  [Dell Mobile Precision M4400 Computer Workstation (Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 500GB/4GB); NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, 512MB] I seem to have several problems:
First, after importing the file (.avi), I get a message about ‘dropped frames.’
Secondly, when I try to play the video in the source monitor, the audio plays but the video doesn’t; it only shows the first frame [this is after waiting until the video is ?recognized? ]   I can use the shift-arrow key and see that the video is there.
Thirdly, I can play the .avi file in other players, e.g., avidemux or PE pro CS5 on another computer.  There, I see that the audio and video are not in sync; the audio can be up to 300 ms ahead of the video (as determined using avidemux).
    Questions:
    1.  Why doesn’t the source monitor play the video? Is this a problem with PE8 (latest update as of 3 March 2011) on aWIN7 64 bit computer (intel duo core. 3 GHz).
    2. Is the audio-video sync problem the result of the ‘dropped frames?’ How can PE8 correct this? Avoid this? Or, is it coincidence?

"I think you're telling me you're using a backwards compatible Digital8  camcorder to capture your video as DV-AVIs. Is that right?" YES
"Are you using  Premiere Elements to do this capturing?" YES, AS ABOVE PE8
"Go to the File menu and select Properties. It should show a standard DV codec being used for your video and audio."
WMP v12 is dumb. Under properties, media, it says 'video.'  However, avidemux gave me the information state above: video -- Codec 4CC: dvsd, frame rate: 29.971 fps; audio -- codec: PCM, channels: Stereo, frequency: 48 kHz.
    So, back to the Questions:

  • X300 Stereo Speakers not working properly

I have an X300 Thinkpad. My soundcard appears to be working - if I plug in a set of headphones or external speakers they work fine, but once I unplug from the headphone jack the integrated stereo speakers operate at very low volume (even when on full volume) and are very distorted.
This seems to be connected to either:
    a. When I activated Bluetooth for the first time and a bunch of BT drivers were installed (off the harddrive)
    b. When I updated the Thinkpad Audio features XIII
I have installed and uninstalled all the audio devices and BT devices, updated all the Thinkpad software, checked the BIOS, updated the audio and BT drivers, and every checked every other conceivable option!!!! The bugging thing is that in the Sounds panel in the Control Panel it says the speakers are working properly and the drivers are up to date.
Has anyone else experienced something similar? Has anyone got any ideas on what has happened?
    Thanks in advance.

    @ All,
please correct me if I am wrong; up to now members know that you  have problems with the sound levels / speakers on X300 ThinkPads.
A little more information would be helpfull, maybe you could all post, (or better still edit existing posts), information as to which operating system (with / without SPs) is concerned, whether or not this is a factory or clean install, and last but not least which sound driver is installed.
    Thanks in advance

  • Audio Video Front Panel m8277c

I bought an HP Pavillion Media Center model m8277c and it has front panel input for video, svideo, and audio. Is this connection directly connected to the motherboard? Or is this connection passing through the PCI TV Tuner at the back? I tried to connect a video/audio connection to the front panel, but I don't see/hear audio-video. What program shall I use to enable me to watch an a/v connection to the front panel? Thanks in advance.

Okay Guys, pay attention because here it goes:To get the S-Video and A/V in jacks to engage you have to have the Cyberlink DVD Suite Deluxe to make these work. This is common software on most HP computers that have the A/V jacks and S-Videos jacks on the front and rear of most of the better HPs out there. The Cyberlink DVD Suite has in it the ability to copy CDs,DVDs,make CDs using MP3s WAVs etc.In this DVD Suite is a program called Power Director. This allows you to make you own movies that you can view on your computer saving them to My Movies or that you can burn to a DVD to watch on all types of consumer DVD players, even ones that are installed in Automobiles. How you engage these jacks is by going to the Power Director and open it.Once Power Director is open,go to File,in that select New Untitled Project. On the Lower Right Side Corner you will see a Grey Rectangular Settings Button.Click on that and you will select Analog Video Settings.A new square Pop up window will open up.That allows you to select ViXs Pure TV Capture.Click Capture Source so that you can see Video Composite-01(Front Jack),Video Composite-02(Rear Jack),Video S Video-01(Front Jack),Video S Video-02(Rear Jack) .The Audio Device is underneath that so if you are using the analog jacks from your camcorder or VHS Unit, make sure that you have the RCA jacks Both Left(White) and Right(Red) connected to the A/V jacks.Make SURE that you have all the cables connected BEFORE you open the Power Director so that the program detects them. When the Power Director program is open you will see a Blue Capture Button at the Top Left Side. You will see icons for Capture from DV Device,an icon that looks like a Prosumer Camcorder that says HDV Device, and Capture Video icon that looks like a TV with little Rabbit Ears coming off of it.Capture Video is the one you want.Click on that one then click on the Blue Button at the Top Left.and record your home Camcorder tapes or VHS tapes straight to your computer.I used a Sony Hi8 using the S-Video and a RCA Y cord so that both channels would come through and also used a Sony SLV -N51 using the Stereo Outs and everything worked fine.I hope this helps. Also,if you Don't have the Cyberlink DVD Deluxe Suite already installed in your HP,you can find it online from the popular auction site from $35 to $55.Good Luck.

  • Connecting stereo speakers to an iMac

I am thinking about making the final jump and just trashing my stereo and running all my music through my iMac. Three questions:
1.) Is the output of an iMac going to be high enough quality to sound good through my stereo speakers?
2.) Is this done by simply connecting a set of stereo speakers to my iMac through the headphone jack?
3.) My current stereo is hooked up to three sets of speakers (one set in each of three rooms) and I'm wondering if I can split the output signal from my single headphone jack so that the music comes out of all three speakers.
4.) I'm incredulous that my little iMac will be able to produce quality sound equal to my stereo system. Am I wrong? (My wife will only allow this change if I guarantee that she won't even notice a difference.)
    Thanks in advance!
    Peter Booth

    Hi Peter,
    1. the output is good enough to run external speakers through (you'd need to have the hearing of a bat to notice the difference. Only the very highest and ver, very lowest of frequencies are lost.)
    2. yes the headphone jack will work (if you iMac has an 'output' jack though, use it instead.)
    3. Yes, you will lose ouput accordingly (is the stereo designed to run two speakers is running six, all speakers will recieve only 1/3 signal, unless you install extra capacitors in your amps to compensate for loss of output.
    4. refer to answer 1

  • Having problems with the  Built-in stereo speakers, how can i activate them?

Mi built-in stereo speakers are not working, and i cant increase or decrease the volume, the icon is in grey and i cant chance it

There have been more than a few cases of a tiny "switch" inside the audio jack having issues. Try gently inserting a 3.5mm audio plug into the jack part way and removing it. Next try a bit further. Continue this until you get it all the way in (without jamming it in) or sound starts working properly.
Also check to see if sound will play in ear/headphones via the jack.
People have also had success gently wiggly an audio plug in the jack or using something small to poke around inside the jack and reset the switch. Gently, carefully . . . don't want to damage anything.

FCP Does NOT do Surround Sound.
You will need to Edit your project as normal in FCP.
When you're edit is complete you will export your Audio to SoundTrack Pro where you will complete your Surround Sound Audio Mix.RightClick your Audio on the timeline > Send To Soundtrack
    http://www.apple.com/es/finalcutstudio/soundtrackpro/sound.html
You can use Soundtrack Pro 2 to do audio mixing and panning for 5.1 surround sound, and then carry the resulting audio into FCP. However, you’ll need additional hardware (costing anywhere from $300 to $2,000) to get those six audio channels out to speakers—the Mac’s built-in digital audio optical port won’t suffice.
    - People in this forum seem to hate it when I mention Vegas... but Vegas is the only NLE I know of that will mix your surround sound audio directly from the timeline.
