Stickies dashboard

I accidentaly deleted a very important sticky on my dashboard.
Using time machine, I can't find an older version of the "StickiesDatabase" file in My user's library, as told in many other topics. Where can I find it ?
Thanks for help,
Kirsten

Kristen,
Mine is here: Home / Library / StickiesDatabase
Try this: Go to this folder in a Finder window.
If you don't see the file your looking for, leave the window open and click the Time Machine Dock icon to enter the "time travel" interface.
Now click back in time WITHIN this folder until the StickiesDatabase appears.
It will have been in this folder at some point, so you should come across it eventually as you go back through previous backups.
Let us know if this resolved your issue.
Cheers!

  • Stickies DashBoard Client hogging resource

I've used the Stickies Widget in DashBoard for a while and find them useful. However, this past few hours I have noticed a significant drop in overall work speed on my iMac and thus had a look in Activity Monitor.
Stickies DashBoard Client was hogging all my spare resources. I killed it, but it reappeared.
I've now removed Stickies from my active Widgets, but what could be going on and how can I stop it happening again? I would like my Stickies back, but not at the expense on mian processing ability!
    Thanks.

    I would try the following:
    1. Create a new user account and see if the same happens there
    2. "Repair Disk Permissions" from Disk Utility
    3. Delete the following preference files:
    ~/Library/Preferences/widget-com.apple.widget.stickies.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dashboard.client.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dashboard.plist
    Mihalis.

  • Mountain Lion Stickies Dashboard Problem

When I upgraded to Mountain Lion the Stickies Widget in Dashboard begin showing a problem. The vertical text cursor that flashes where typing would begin is on every stickie so I have no idea which one is selected until I begin typing. It's annoying, I hope they fix it.

Same problem here. I tried to fix it by removing all widget-com.* and the com.apple.dashboard.* files after disabling the dashboard according to this guide: http://face.centosprime.com/macosxw/disable-dashboard/
Even though the problem seems to be fixed at first glance when setting up the stickies anew, the issue with blinking cursors keeps coming after some time.

  • Notes VS Stickies

I have been using the Stickies Dashboard widget to keep track of various little notes for a while now. Now that I just bought an iPhone the ability to sync notes like this with the iPhone is very appealing. There is Notes, part of Mail but it seems like these are awkward to access, where as I just click one mouse button to access my Stickies.
So, is there a dashboard widget that allows you to access to Notes? Or is there a way to make Dashboard Stickies accessible on the iPhone?

I am not 100% certain, but the Notes function doesnt seem to be intended to replace a full blown word processor. You would be better off with something like DocsToGo. I use it and can keep very large Word documents on my iPhone for reference.

  • Dashboard Troubles

I recently had some computer problems and had to clean install my OS. After the install was complete, I realized I didn't backup my Stickies in Dashboard. I did, however, backup my entire Users folder including Library. Is it possible there is a Stickies Dashboard file that I can replace to recover my Stickies?
    Thanks,
    Rybo

Do you have an instance of the Stickies widget up?
The stickies.plist file holds the settings for active Stickies widgets, but a different file, ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dashboard.plist determines which widgets are active.
After starting an instance of Stickies, Dashboard will create a stickies.plist. If you then replace the one created with the archived one, it should work.
If it just isn't working, and you need the data from the old stickies, you can open the plist file in TextEdit to get all the information.

  • New Mac. Lost Stickies Widget data from previouss Mac.

I had saved some information to Stickies Dashboard Widgets on pervious Mac. Just upgraded to new Mac Pro.
I have the previous Mac backed up, but can't determine where the data from those widgets might be stored. Any ideas?

The contents of the Dashboard "Stickies" notes appear to be stored in the user's "~/Library/Preferences/widget-com.apple.widget.stickies.plist" file...

  • How do I transfer content in Dashboard Stickies from one Mac to another?

I've got a new MacBook Air and because the hard drive on it is smaller than the hard drive on the MacBook Pro I had before, I've opted not to use Migration Assistant. But I have a good bit of content in Dashboard Stickies. Does anyone know how I can transfer this content to my new Mac? Where is this information stored?

Copy this file from the old Mac to the new one:
    ~/Library/Preferences/widget-com.apple.widget.stickies.plist
Be sure that Dashboard isn't running when you copy the file onto your new Mac.

  • Stickies in dashboard revert to yellow when I restart my computer.

When I select a different color for the stickies on the dashboard, the color changes.  When I restart my computer, however, all of the stickies have reverted to the original yellow color, but when I check in the i the color I selected prior to the restart is still checked.  Any fixes for this?

No, you don't have a virus or other malware. Even though you don't say, I'm sure you are running Lion or Mountain Lion. This feature is known as resume. If you close all documents before quitting Numbers or Pages, you won't have them reopening when you launch the app again. If you don't want to have to close everything first try Mountain Tweaks. The option to turn off resume is at the bottom of the left-hand column under Lion. You can quickly close all open windows in an application by typing ⌘ ⌥ W (Command + Option + W) or hold down the Option/alt key while clicking the red close button. In Mountain Lion you can check a box in System Preferences > General to close all documents when quitting an application.

  • Need a post-MobileMe synced replacement for dashboard stickies, suggestions?

This question is motivated by the MobileMe to iCloud transition, but could benefit any users of Mac OS X Lion (and could be answered by anyone using a Lion desktop/laptop) so I felt it best to ask in this forum...
Now that I've moved from MobileMe to iCloud, no longer are my dashboard stickies synced between all the computers I use (nor any other dashboard widgets).  Over the years, I've become quite fond of using dashboard stickies (not to be confused with the standalone Stickies application, nor the "notes" awkwardly stored inside Mail) to remember and keep track of all sorts of things.  The way you can swipe between full screen workspaces in Lion actually makes me even more motivated to continue to use dashboard to keep track of stuff and jot random things down.  I would never want to launch some application or go digging through a mail client or a web site in order to do this.  Dashboard is what I like to use.
Now that I can't sync my stickies though, this information is constantly at-risk.  In fact, since many dashboard widgets are extremely hard (it's not just a simple .plist swap anymore) to restore from a backup, if anything were to get messed up on my primary Mac all this information would just vanish (yikes).
It seems like this would be an excellent time for someone out there to implement a replacement widget for the default Apple stickies that offers some sort of networked syncing or other form of backup...does anyone know of a widget that can do this?  If not, I wonder if anyone would be interested in developing one for people like me?  I can't be the only user who would love this (former MobileMe customer or otherwise).
I would love to hear suggestions from anyone on what I can do about this.  Just bear in mind, I have no interest at all in having "notes" bured inside my mail, even if they are synced to my iPhone.  That's just useless to me.
    THANK YOU for any help!

I was looking for something like this too and am surprised there is no widget for iCloud notes.

  • Dashboard stickies

I accidentaly deleted an important sticky on dashboard. I should be able to restore it with time machine, but I can't find the file "StickiesDatabase" in any earlier version. Where can it be ?
    Thanks for help,

Dashboard stickies aren't stored in StickiesDatabase. They're in ~/Library/Preferences/widget-com.apple.widget.stickies.plist, which should be backed up (as should StickiesDatabase, if it exists).

  • Problems restoring lost stickies/widgets to dashboard

Hello! I'm on a late 2006 Macbook that was originally running Tiger, then Snow Leopard and later Lion. I know my mac can give way anytime so I decided back up my mac on a time machine and to wipe the hdd via disk utility and reinstall Lion. (kinda regretting )
I have had some stickies since wayyyy back. And I am having trouble finding this  .plist files and com-widget files in the Library/Preferences or Users/username/preferences (doesn't exist, no idea why) folder in my external hdd. I have found a thread (but have since lost the link) where a person commented that he was unable to find the .plist files in this folder as well (in this context, he upgraded from tiger to snow leopard).
Could it be that mine is somewhere else? I have tried searching in spotlight for the com.apple.dashboard.client.plist /com.apple.dashboard.plist as well as com-widget but nothing appears....
    help? thanks in advance!
also have a problem accessing the backup i made prior to the hdd wipe (they are dark pink in the time machine) but i guess i should refer to another thread for that..

    Hi,
Based on Lions rules of precedence, resources are searched by the system in ~/Library, /Library (...networks & then system Library).
So, if you installed the widgets as a user on the original system, they should be in ~/Library/Widgets and the plist should be in ~/Library/Preferences/.
A dashboard widget should store it's resources within these places only.
I wonder if the TimeMachine backup was complete?
    Good luck!

  • HELP!! Dashboard Post-it's or Stickies are suddenly blank.

The yellow stickies on my dashboard have suddenly gone blank. I keep some important info on these (I know I should have it backed-up elsewhere), and they're simply empty. The actual stickies are still there, but there's no text. I tried repairing permissions, but no luck. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!!

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
In Stickies make sure you have scrolled all the way up and down in the window. Sometimes your input is there, you just need to view the entire window.
Also, here's how to Save notes:
    Saving sticky notes
You can save a sticky note as a text file before closing it. If you don’t save the sticky note before you close it, you’ll lose all the text in the note. If you don’t close a sticky note, it will be visible whenever Stickies is open.
    To save a sticky note:
Click the close button in the top-left corner of the sticky note to close it.
In the dialog that appears, click the Save button.
Type a name and choose a destination for the text file you’re creating.
Choose a format from the Format pop-up menu:
Plain Text: Cannot include paragraph and font formatting or graphics and other embedded files.
RTF: Can include paragraph and font formatting. If you add graphics to a Rich Text Format (RTF) file, it is changed to a Rich Text Format Directory (RTFD) file.
RTFD: Can include paragraph and font formatting, as well as graphics and other embedded files.

  • In search for OSX dashboard stickies's options

    Hi
I'm using stickies inside my dashboard, but I have hard problems finding options for Dashboard Stickies.
Only options I have found is changing font type, size and sticky color.
    I`m missing options like:
    Duplicate sticky
Rich text editing (same as a non-dashboard sticky)
    Shortcuts
    Does these options exist?
    Thank you!

Well I finally gave in and formatted the external drives to HTFS+, so now I can read and write on them from anywhere on my home network. But this does mean I cant unplug them and use then with a windows machine directly. Or I have to buy paragon HTFS+ for windows and have that every time with me on a USB drive been allowed to install it (for example on one of the the computer at my school). It feels to me like this just a marketing scheme to spend more money. I mean how am I as end user suppose to know that after I upgrade my OS I am not able to use external NTFS Hard drives on my network. No one in the store when I was buying a mac told me: "Hey when you buy a external drive do format it to HTFS+ immediately or else you could have problems. I mean apple knows that except maybe for a few brands the most used format for external drives is NTFS. There should have been at least a warring before installing Mountain Lion. The best scenario would have been if it just worked. Ok enough of my complaining, its just that this has been really frustrating. I mean to backup 3tb is about 20 hours and then copy it back to the drive is about 13. Am still copying as I write this.
But anyway that's one problem solved. Wake on LAN still have no luck with that one. Well I got a work around but its not ideal. For me setting the Display Sleep to 3 hours works, because my iMac 24 and my main PC are nest to each other. But I guess for people that need this for remote servers even that wont work. O btw maybe this helps a few people, Teamviewer seems to be able to wake him up too.

  • Suddendly I lost most dashboard STICKIES.

I believed informations I stored on dashboard stickies were safe. I removed all paper stickers around my MAC long ago.
Syddenly, after years of use, most of informations there disappeared not all of them but most. Stickies are still there... but empty :-(
    Where are those information stored?
Any possibility to retrieve them? or are lost for ever ! How could that happened?
Few days ago, ALL icons on the desktop disappeared but I solved the problem only with a RESTART. It remain the unknow reason why it happend.
Firstly I thought about a virus but by Norton didn't find any.
    Appreciate your help

Of course I know that HD are subject to damages, but you really think we could experience such a selective damage that evaporates part of a file?
and the system has automatically regrouped, patched the remaining portions of the file? ... some of the stickies content survived and not the oldest nor recent.

  • Can't write in dashboard stickies

Today, out of nowhere, I've been stripped of the ability to write into Dashboard Stickies. Whenever I try to do so, this appears: http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/8881/stickyq.png
The same applies for copying into it.
What seems to be the problem?
    Thanks for your time.

    Ok try this.
Since you can write stickies as other users, that means there is something amiss with your home folder, as opposed to the whole system.
In your home/library/preferences folder, see if you can find a file called com.apple.stickeies.plist
Delete it and see if that helps
Past that, in your home/library/ folder should be a file called StickiesDatabase
Delete it and see if that help.
KEEP IN MIND that deleted one or the other of these files may cause you to loose your existing stickies.... so be warned.
If deleting one or the other of these files doesn't solve the problem, then delete them both at the same time. And of course, once deleted, make sure the trash must be emptied for this to have any effect.
    Good Luck
