How to Flash MSI Guides.
There are different ways to flash the bios but to keep things simple will concentrate on the MSI Official methods :-
1) Award Flash BIOS Procedure 98/ME
This method assumes access to hd formatted using FAT32 & therefore readable by DOS.
2) Flashing the BIOS for Users using NON FAT file system
For use with Linux based & NTFS File systems - HD Not readable from DOS.  Using this procedure the  the files are copied to the virtual drive before running the flash utility. So the flash effectively is all done in memory.
This will be the method used by the majority of us. So:-
Follow the instructions in the last link (Thanks Bas)
The details below are additional checks/notes referring to the steps in Bas's guide, which may be useful.
Essential
2) Know Your model number  - Is of increased Importance for NEO4 users - We have already seen instances of this.
5-1) Ensure you have a Boot Floppy with CD suport (this creates the Virtual drive used in the process) If you haven't got such
a boot disc see BootrDisc.com link in Rescources.
5-2) B4 booting floppy - Enter Bios & Load Optimised Defaults - To ensure that bios is returned to stock & any overclocking is
turned off.
7) If you miss the ramdrive letter the last DOS message will show your CD drive letter. The Ramdrive is the letter preceeding
the CD Drive. EG CD = D Ramdrive = C
Optional - Gives better control of procedure
11) Use of Switch command options with AWFL833C.EXE /py/sn/wb/cc/cd/cp/r TargetBios.file
Personnaly I use the switches as does Syar :-
Per Syar2003 Iv'e always used :
AWFL833D W7030NMS.xxx /py/sn/wb/cc/cd/cp/r
or
AWFL833D W7030NMS.xxx /py/sn/wb/cc/cd/cp/f/r
And a hard reset with jumper when done .
For a more detailed explanation of switches see :-
Syar's Bios Switch Explained
or Syar's Bios Collection - Flashing.txt
See Also Using a Batch File to Automate bios flash
12) after flash , enter Bios & load optimized defaults , then save + exit with no other change .
That way you have a fresh system with a fresh non problematic dmi-pool and user settings .
After this Enter Bios & Re-enter your custom settings.
From Syar - Which one do I do first?
Thanks to Bas & Syar for the majority of info in this guide

FLASH PREPARATION
Always Load Optimised defaults & Save b4 flashing - NEVER FLASH When running an OC or Unstable.
If you need to flash & are worried about stability - run with a single module & test it it memtest 1st.
FLASH METHODS
1) Winflash (Syar2003) -
Winflash is safe to use if your windows and pc is stable .
How to get it Download & install MSI Live Update. Winflash is located "C:\Program Files\MSI\Live Update 3\FlashUty\Award
And as with dos flash reset bios and any overclocking to "load optimized bios default" + save, before and after flashing.
After winflash is finished it ask if you want to reboot - answer no , and shutdown (turn off) windows/pc instead .
After that disconnect the PSU's AC and reset the cmos with the jumper on the board .
This is how I use it , - safest way .
Note ! Place checkmarks on bootblock / dmi area /update all /reset cmos
Using Winflash - Syar2003's GuideWinflash
2)  MSI Guides for flashing using a floppy
2 Flavours depending on OS the majority of us use the 2nd as dos floppies can't read a NTDS partition.
2-1) Award Flash BIOS Procedure 98/ME
This method assumes access to hd formatted using FAT32 & therefore readable by DOS.

  • What we need - a guide on how to flash bios, setup bios, and raid

Ok, a topic I see very often on many forums, and several times here, is the following; How to flash bios, how to setup the bios settings, and how to setup the raid array, and then setup the bios to boot from the raid array. Could we perhaps pull our heads togheter and write a detailed guide on these three topics, taking into account how to do it on the most used (commonly written about) MSI boards? and perhaps put as a sticky?
It would help many novice users trying to deal with these problems. I am willing to write on the subject of flashing bios on the MSI K8N SLI Platinum and how to install a Bios Saviour.

Syar2003 has also documented flashing methods in the Bios Collection. *Updated * 7025 1C3 EasyBIOS [r.2] thread
BIOS Guides pretty complete as far as Neo3 250/Ultra but as none of the pps who have been involved in the stickies have neo4's that chipset is lacking.

If any1 wants to re-write /update these please feel free to write up the topic as a new thread  thread & if popular we can add a link to the thread.

How to flash BIOS on suse bundled s series notebooks?

I have the above unit (I love it!!) with BIOS version 14CN51WW BIOS running UBUNTU9.04 (did not like the SUSE linux supplied. I hate the loud bleep when you remove the power adapter and also have had a few problems with LINUX hanging with the suspend mode - so I thought I might try to update the BIOS to the latest Version: 14CN67WW
However, how do you do this other than in Windows?
I tried to install Windows XP and 2000 onto a spare SATA disk that I installed into the IdeaPad - but halfway through the installation I get a stop error message saying computer is not ACPI compliant
The only other way I have is a Windows XP routine that loads XP into memory and allows a virtual disk - where I could install the BIOS files - but will this work if I flash from here - don't want to screw up the system board
Older IBM's had an executable file that ran from a DOS session and  flashed the BIOS
Anyone got any advice on how to approach this - before I actually do it

  • How to flash bios using flash drive

how can i put this bios update on a flash drive , "Bios Update for Toshiba satellite l745d-s4230"
Someone from the other forums said that i need to update my bios to fix my problem (stuck on windows is starting)
here's the link in my 1st post "windows 7 stuck on starting windows screen" you can review my problem in that link.

i use winflash all the time. and as jaybee said, its pretty safe as long as you turn off everything (except your PC of course )
and if somehow, the BIOS is corrupt, you can just DL a new one, reflash it and still be okay without ever having to reboot.
I beg to differ. When I had flashed my K8N Neo (7030) board to the now recalled 1.8 bios (in DOS), I tried to flash it to 1.9 beta using Winflash, following the instructions here on the forum to the very last point, and for me Winflash did not work. Not only did it fail to flash, it also failed to flash using several different bioses. So even though I was able to reflash without rebooting, it did not help me since no bios file worked.
My bios was corrupt and I had to order a replacement chip.
There is always the possible hardware fault (bad flash chip), but since it flashed successfully in DOS only a few days before, I see no reason to suspect the hardware.
My recommendation is therefore: *always* *always* *ALWAYS* use DOS when flashing.

I have a non-working laptop that has an old bios and would like to update to the current f.65 bios.  Problem is that it is only able to complete this through operating system according to site.  Is there anyway to put this on usb or disk to flash the current bios?

    Hi schwally4,
Actually with your unit, you can.
Make sure you are holding down both keys  when you press power.  The info you will need is at the bottom of this document.
Please let me know if this helps.

How to make a good bootdisk and which procedure to follow?
Sorry if this question might be asked before, then just put the link to the post if possible.
    Thanks a lot.

    Pitchoop,
Just go in to your windows explore, put a floppy in your floppy drive. Right click on the Icon for the floppy drive and choose Format. In the format options you will see Create an MS-DOS Boot Disk.
Then transfer the flash utility and the BIOS to the floppy and you are set for flashing.

  • How to flash bios for aspire 5745 when you have a black screen

I attempted to update my bios for my Acer Aspire 5745 notebook and chose the wrong file.  The computer is giving me a black screen now. When I push the start button the lights come on the fan blows and thats all. I found a few sits on line giving me the procedure to flash an aspire one system. Here is the steps I took to do so to no avail. 1. When to the acer site and put the SNID number to my laptop to pull up my suggested downloads for my system. 2. I downloaded the file to my working computer. 3. I extracted the file and opened the file that said DOS. 4. I renamed the file zg5ia32.fd 5. checked my flash drive to make sure it is set to ( FAT ). 6. Transfered the file to the flash drive. 7. Pluged in the flash drive to my dead laptop while it was pluged into a powersorce. 8. Held down the FN and ESC buttons while pushing the power buttons. 9. Released the FN and ESC buttons when I noticed the power light blinking and the flash drive light up. 10. Waited for over 15 min.  but had no success. If anyone could tell me what I may have done wrong I would be much appriciated.  I also opened up the backside to the laptop and removed the little battery that was plugged it with a small white connector assuming it was the cmos battery but still nothing happended.

I was never able to properly flash my bios. I had wondered if when I tried to update it I may have destroyed my bios in the process. Anyways I had purchased a motherboard for I think around 50.00 on ebay. It was used but was complete. All I had to do was take out the old motherboard and replace with the other one. It all came on after that with a new knowledge of not fix something that is not broken.

  • HOW TO FLASH BIOS

as live update doesn't work wat is the command line to flash the bios with v 1.2 plus is there any beta bios out yet?

You can download the bios and unpack it. The 2 largest files in there are an executable flash utility and the bios image file.
You need to run the flash utility from DOS mode (not a DOS command prompt, a real DOS startup disk/CD).
Have the flash util and bios image on HDD or CD when you flash, don't flash directly from a floppy.

  • Intel 845 , MS-6714 ver:1 how to flash Bios

could you mind giving me bios file to flash MSI mainbord intel 845(i don't know 845 GV or not,i just see it show 845 GV ICH4 on a chip) because i can not find the right one that i need.i have tried 845GV but it reported : bios-lock striming wrong system... both bios 2Mb and 4 Mb
    thanks for your help.

knightmn, 2Mb or 4Mb, you need to check on the BIOS chip itself. Get the BIOS chip code number as printed on the chip itself, then search the net on the supplier's webpage and see if it's a 2Mb or 4Mb. That's the way.
If you could tell me what are the strings printed on that BIOS chip (remove the MSI sticker), then I probably can help you to find out.
You also may need to remove the MCH heatsink to tell whether it's a 845GE or 845GV. If your board doesn't have AGP port, then definitely it's a 845GV.
Which BIOS to flash? I can't tell... too bad...

  • How to flash bios in windpad 110w ?

I see "Press <Del> to enter Setup" But I can not push Del Because my windpad no have keyboard.

    Thank you.
PS. I do not good English. Sorry.

You don't need to update the BIOS, you need to turn the camera on.
I believe from looking in the manual that you can do this by pressing the 'O-key', and then selecting the webcam there.

  • How to flash bios on Sun Fire X2100  (without cd/dvd drive ) from solaris.

Hi I have the following problem. I need to udpdate bios in my sun fire x2100 (not the m2 version). Installed system on it is the latest solaris 10. I have also one laptop with sxce b107. I need to update bios to support zfs root/mirror.
Both devices are int the one subnet.
I download supplement cd from sun, but I was pretty amazed that there is available only remote update from rhel (32bit) or boot from cd/dvd drive.

    1. If an OS is installed:
    - log in as you described
    - shutdown the server with `init 0`
    - this should bring you to the OK prompt
    - Insert the bootable system software CDROM into the CDROM drive
    - On the OK prompt, type `boot cdrom`
    2. If no OS is installed:
    - connect to the serial management port with your PC (Hyperterminal)
-> NOTE: you will need a DB-25 Adapter (Part No. 530-2889)
connect this adapter to the serial port of your PC, then connect the adapter
with an RJ45 cable to the serial management port of the server
-> Serial Port Settings in Hyper Terminal:
    Duplex: Full
    Bit Rate: 9600
    Parity: None
    Databits: 8
    Stopbit: 1
    Flow Control: Xon/Xoff
    VT100 Emulation (if applicable): ON
    - change to the OK prompt by typing `break`
-> if this does not work, try `reset -x`
    - make sure your OS Installation CDROM is in the drive
    - at the OK prompt, type `boot cdrom`

  • How to implement this scenerio in the workflow - More details given Inside?

We are implementing a simple PO release workflow in ECC 5.0. The workflow just has a decision step and a release step. We have implemented the workflow in our system and it seems to be working fine.
    Problem Statement:
The client has many Purchase Order Administrators or Purchasing clerks who needs to approve the PO. But the client does not have many user logins or license to have more users in SAP. So they are checking if it is possible to have the workflow in SAP but to execute the workflow from outside SAP by using one user login.
To be more specific, Here is what they are asking.
1). They want that SAP must send a work item to their lotus notes inbox with a URL link in the email.
2). The user will open the email from Lotus notes and then click on the URL link which might be something similar to the decision work item. The user will select YES or NO which is similar to clicking approve or reject
3). Once the user has made a decision by clicking on the URL in the email they want that the PO should be released in SAP with a common user ID say WF-BATCH.
4). We cannot use Extended notification as we would like to have only one user WF-BATCH for approval but send emails to all the Purchasing clerks. I believe that the extended notifications can only send emails to the id configured in the user master. Since the client wants to have only one user in SAP but many PO approvers  outside SAP.
    My questions:
1). Can we configure extended notifications in workflow such that the system sends emails to different purchasing clerks in their lotus notes inbox? If yes then how can I configure that?
2). If it is not possible then how do we achieve the requirement from outside SAP but still have the workflow?
3). If we need to implement some external bespoke solutions then what all things would be involved? Any guidance on how this scenario can be achieved and what issues we may have?
4). How can we trigger a workitem from outside SAP but still make it work as if it would have been triggered from SAP. Can we call some RFC FM to trigger the workitem and force a single user id?
Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.
    any idea guys?
Edited by: Workflow  learner on Jul 28, 2008 11:22 AM

Well, apart from the obvious licensing issues which you should definitely discuss with your account manager, that's going to fail any audit. The 'signature' on the approval is the user's login, so if approvals are done by a common userid you will need to put a new authentication mechanism in place.
    The two major issues are:
Forwarding - how do you control someone forwarding it to someone else to approve?
Traceability - how can you prove who really approved it?
This is not a small project. Much of this depends on your internal infrastructure, you will need to get Basis, Security, Networks, and Mail people involved, we cannot really help you much at this point.
Sorry it's not the answer you want to hear.
    Good luck,
    Mike
