Sticky mouse

I have a problem with my Mac. When I drag something with my mouse, the icons dragged are sticked to my cursor; that is I can drag but not drop the icons. I searched the internet, as well as Apple supports, many people had these problems and there were many suggestions. I've done all suggested, plus reinstalled my OSX 10.8.5. But, the problem still persist. Please help.

Hi,
Did you know there are billions of them out there ? Did you read my questions ? What is it ??? If a ball mouse: clean the ball, if an optical mouse, check the beam, change battery or even just using something to clean its bottom. This is no joke.

Lightroom LR4 - Map Module - Sticky mouse  Hi folks.  When using the mouse to pan the map, the map sticks to the mouse for a while even when you release the button. This means you can pan teh map to a new location, release the mouse and the map continues to pan where you subsequently move the mouse to.  Note: this does not happen with Google maps in the browser, so a problem with LR.  Its' highly annoying to pan the map and then hold the mouse still for 2 or 3 seconds to avoid the map moving

Has anyone else come across what I can only describe as a 'sticky mouse' in Muse. If you click on something, it sticks to the mouse and you end up inadvertedly moving objects around. It drives me absolutely crazy!!

  • How can I find a lost bookmark folder in another bookmark folder? I had a sticky mouse when I moved it.

How can I find a lost bookmark folder? A folder stuck on my mouse pointer I shook the mouse and it released the folder somewhere in the hundreds of other bookmark folders. I don't want to have to open every folder and search every file to locate it. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Renaldo,
You might try restoring a backup of your bookmarks.
    1. From the menu at the top of the Firefox window bar, click the Bookmarks menu and choose Organize Bookmarks to open the Library window.
    2. Before proceeding, you should make a backup of your current bookmarks.
    1. From the toolbar on the Library window, select Import and Backup and choose Backup.
    2. Firefox will ask you to save the bookmark backup to a folder on your hard drive. Choose a location that you will remember.
    3. Your current bookmarks have been backed up to the file you selected.
    3. From the toolbar on the Library window, select Import and Backup to open the Import and Backup menu, and pick Restore to see a list of available bookmark backups organized by date.
    4. To restore one of the listed backups, select it from the Restore menu. Choose the newest bookmark backup that was created before the bookmarks were lost. You will lose all changes to your bookmarks that occurred after the date you select.
'''NOTE:''' To restore a backup that you saved manually, select Choose File from the Restore menu instead of selecting an automatic backup
    5. A confirmation window will appear asking you to confirm replacing your bookmarks with the backup. To replace the bookmarks, press OK. To go back, press Cancel.
'''NOTE:''' You cannot undo this unless you saved a backup file as instructed above.
    6. Your bookmarks have been restored to the date you selected. If your bookmarks do not show up after completing the restore process, repeat the above steps to restore an earlier backup.
If the backup follows the bookmark structure then the missing folder should be displayed

  • Cleaning a sticky mouse pad

So I was eating around my computer and neglected to see I had dropped something sticky around the crevice of my powerbook's mousepad button and now, unless I press hard, I can't use it. I've since changed my options so that I can simply tap the pad itself to select windows and such, but I'd like to have my button back in order to click and drag, etc. Any help on figuring out how to clean it? Please help!

Not for the feint of heart. Look at:

for replacing the upper case, which contains the pad and button. Click on view install for instructions.
You don't say which model you have and you don't want to void any warranty either...

  • Sticky mouse issue

On oracle forms application, If I click to another item with my mouse
cursor there is no navigation, more so when I am on a multiline text item. The other item is MOUSE NAVIGABLE.
I am on Form Server 10.1.2.0.2. This version is supposed to be a version that has an patch/fix for this mouse issue(Bug#301874).
    Any help guys?
    Thanks
    Vijay

By default, whenever you have an item based on a long/clob column is it created with a query allowed property of 'No'?
I created a simple form to replicate the issue, with no success. I am suspecting this mouse issue might have more to do than just the item being multi lined/clob/long item, cos I have an on mouse double click event associated with the item which brings up an text editor
    Edit_TextItem(50, 100, 500, 300);

  • "sticky" mouse clicks

The cursor is behaving strangely on my laptop --
If I double click on a scroll bar arrow or an 'increment' arrow in a program, the mouse click will "stick" even if I've released the button.
For example, in GIMP, if I'm resizing a photo from 610 pixels to 600, inevitably by the time I click the scale down arrow a couple of times, it will act as if I've clicked and held the mouse button, even if I've released the button.
Does anybody know what's going on here and how I can make it stop.  It's making using GIMP extremely unpleasant.

i have the same problem, also when i click something i have to move my mouse before it registers the click

  • PS CS2 - Vista 64 - Sticky cursor

I have a Gateway LX6810-01 running Vista-64. 8 gig of memory.  Quite often with various tools and brushes the cursor becomes sticky.  I move the mouse and then the cursor jumps to the new location.  It usually happens when I've zoomed in to work on an area and then I scroll to a new area.  At this point it becomes sticky.  A work around is to zoom in or out just a little bit - it doesn't take much.
I've run as administrator and I've run in XP compatibility mode.  My copy of Photoshop Elements has the same problem.  I also have a Microsoft wireless mouse.
    Anybody else having this problem?

Migrated to Windows-7 64 bit and still had the problem.
I encountered an additional problem with the mouse when I migrated. (ipoint.exe kept asking for \device\harddisk2\DR2)
After trying several things I deinstalled the Intellipoint driver for my wireless optical mouse.
Sticky mouse has gone away.  Mouse works fine using the system default mouse driver.

  • 10.4.8 • Mouse • Cursor • Dock

It appears the issue behind the problems is the OS is not recognizing the mouse/cursor as it is hovering. Thus, the dock doesn't pop out when the mouse is moved over it.
In open windows, the close button doesn't show the X, nor the + or - signs in the other buttons.
Menus don't highlight as cursor is moved up/down in the menu windows; cursor itself doesn't change as it typically does when moved over certain items.
Apple HELP! This is driving us nuts!

I too ran into this with a Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse and Keyboard combo. Just after the update to 10.4.8, I repaired permissions, verified/repaired the disk, and still experienced the sticky mouse syndrome. I also noticed that none of the rollovers on web pages worked, none of the pull down menus worked in any application, and in most Adobe applications, the cursor would disappear when I need to work on anything that used a tool other than the "move" tool.
That being said, I upgraded the Logitech Control Center software to version 2.1.2 from 1.x and saw no change. I then read (on the Logitech forums) that there were problems with 2.1.2 not recognizing some Logitech hardware... Downgraded to 2.1.1 and still saw no change.
I've reinstalled the combo updater to no avail, and I've tried just uninstalling the Logitech Control center. There was only medium level hope here... Without the Logitech Control Center software installed, my Mac OS doesn't seem to recognize modifier keys, like CMD/OPT/CTRL... So, that's not very useful. The mouse behaved nicely, though without the keyboard playing well with others, I really didn't test too much further.
Here's what I've found works (for what it's worth):
    - Update 10.4.8
    - repair permissions
    - verify/repair disk as needed
    - uninstall LCC and reinstall 2.1.1
    - remove batteries from mouse (so that it doesn't work or try to work)
    - restart Mac with a wired mouse plugged in
(also works with a bluetooth mouse instead).
All is now good with the world, though I'd really like to have my mouse unleashed again. I'm pretty sure my significant other will want her mouse back at some point... But at least I can do productive work again.
Logitech and Apple used to play nicely together. Maybe someone pushed someone on the playground.

  • MacBook Pro Problems - Take It In?

    Hello,
I have a 6 month old MacBook Pro, covered under full AppleCare.
I have had numerous problems with it (both hardware and software) and frankly, I am not too happy.
    1. Scratch on case.
My laptop somehow got a thin scratch on the top of it. It was put safely in a backpack with a laptop compartment and there was nothing sharp in the bag. I don't understand why it scratched so easily. And it is a noticeable, black, scratch.
    2. Screeching optical drive.
For some reason, when a DVD was in my optical drive, I picked up the laptop and it made a horrible screeching noise when I moved the computer around. I also have an old PowerBook G4 and it does not have this problem.
    3. Sleep.
When I close my MacBook Pro, I expect it to go to sleep. Actually, it takes about 2 minutes for the computer to stop humming and go to sleep and the light to come on.
    4. Plugging in USB/Charger.
When my laptop is asleep and I plug something in to its USB ports, the laptop turns on (the Apple logo illuminates) and then turns off again. If I plug a charger in, nothing happens. If I pull a charger out, the laptop turns on and off again. If I pull USB out, nothing happens.
    5. Sticky Mouse (resolved)
For some reason, my clicker (on below the trackpad) was very sticky for some period of time. Whenever I pressed it, it seemed to click twice. This seems to have resolved itself somehow.
    6. 4GB RAM, 7200RPM HDD
I have 4GB of RAM installed on my computer. For some reason, the laptop doesn't seem to be using this RAM because I have frequent freezes of applications and it does not seem to be going faster than a G4 iMac I used to have (1.25GHz, 1.25GB RAM).
    7. Airport Card
There seems to be something wrong with the Airport Card on my laptop. For some reason, even when I am right next to a Airport Express, it comes up as 3 bars of signal. I then turn Airport off and then on and it seems to get full bars. Second, I have two Airports in my house, an Express on the 1st floor and an Extreme Base Station on the ground floor. When I take my laptop from my room on the first floor, down to the room where the Extreme is, the laptop, instead of switching to the Extreme, still tries to find the Express, therefore giving me low bars of signal. I then have to turn Airport off and on and then it connects to the Express.
There you have it. Sorry to be complaining so much, but I really am upset with this laptop and would like a replacement unit. Should I go into an Apple Store? What exactly should I ask them and how?
    Thanks so much!

Yes, absolutely! Take it in along with a printed copy of the problems. That way if they need to keep it for a few days, you have given the tech folks a laundry list of what needs fixing.
Good luck and report back what you find out.

  • Pressure on T430 Lid Causes Right Click

    Hi,
I exclusively use my T430 in a docking station and have been plagued with phantom right-clicking.
At first I just thought, "Sticky Mouse" but the problem persisted even with a new one.
Today however, I discovered that i can activate right click just by tapping on the closed lid of the T430 in its docking station.
Has anyone else experienced this?  I can't tell if it's a design flaw or a problem with the way the screen/lid or keyboard is attached.
    Thanks

Does the button stick out or sit flush?

  • First big iMac problem. Help very much appreciated.

    Hi folks,
I've just come onto these forums today, for the first time, largely prompted by a major iMac problem i've encountered over the last couple of days. Please excuse me if any answers to my problem have previously been posted, but i'm typing on a borrowed laptop, which I have use of for today only.
Basically, I have a 20" iMac G5 RevB (my first Apple machine), which has been a pretty solid workhorse since I got it just after the release. However, having completely crashed 2 days ago, I can't access anything upon reboot. All I get is a loud and repeated clicking at the back (top right corner if you're eyeing up the back panel). I get a grey screen and no Apple logo. Eventually the clicking stops and the fans kick into overdrive. I get no further, aside from occasionally a blue screen with a folder with a question mark on it - nothing more.
I have no ethernet cables (or any other peripherals) connected, but this still doesn't remedy anything. I did manage to run 2 hardware tests, via the OSX DVD but nothing was flagged. However, upon trying to do a dummy run of an installation of OSX off the disk, it failed to recognise ANY hard drive within the computer onto which to install the operating system.
Can anyone offer any pointers, please? It'd be much appreciated.

don't have Apple Care, but I am still well within the one year standard warranty period.
Without AppleCare, you cannot get on-site / in-home repair.
Also, you will need to take the computer into your local shop for inspection / servicing.
With AppleCare, they will come to your home for diagnosis and repair.
If you were within your first 90-days, you would be able to call Apple to request phone service and possibly have them send the part to you for installation.
But, after the 90-days, they are not very inclined to talk to you on the phone. So, they send you to the local service center for inspection and repair.
One option is the online support system. You can chat with a tech online, and they can assign a case number to you, and send you to a website to order the replacement part.
I went through this chat method recently, and it seemed to work fine.
    Go here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/imac/
then click on the link that says:
    "Chat with a support agent"
One additional option, is to try the online wizard. It is on the same website, but has a link that says:
"Try the iMac G5 assistant now!"
This wizard allows you to browse through a navigational menu, and select the replacement part you need.
I had a sticky mouse button, so my problem wasn't in the menu. They had mouse related issues, but not my problem. So, I went through the online chat.
If you are able to find your symptom in the menu, then you might be able to order your part right there without chatting with a support agent.
Otherwise, try the support agent chat.
This might be more convenient than taking it in for inspection.
    Hope this helps.

  • G5 Quad Sticks its Tongue Out on Startup

Yup, right after the startup chime, the cd drive ejects and stays open. The drive works fine. It doesn't matter if there is media in the drive or not. Anyway, annoying. Anyone have this happen before? I'm not sure where to begin to look for the source of this problem. It's consistent and started a few weeks ago when the machine was only a few days old.

The CD tray is suppose to eject at startup when the mouse button is held down at startup. You could have a sticky mouse button or faulty USB device attached. Try disconnecting any attached USB devices and see if the problem recurs.

  • It seems my battery is dead

i know, there have been quite a few posts on this. however, i felt like my case was unique in a way. i have had my battery for 4 mo. i used it quite heavily. when i left for a 3 week trip, i left my macbook at home with the battery @ 50%. when i got back, my macbook wouldn't start with independent power. the lights on the battery don't light up at all, and there is a black x over the battery icon, stating that the computer can't 'see' the battery. when i unplug it, the computer shuts off. i have concluded that it's a battery problem.is it normal for batteries to die so quickly? my issue is that it was REPLACED in march for a similar issue. my original battery that came with this macbook was used for 2 mo. i've also had sticky mouse button problems, which have been resolved. has there been a downfall in QA/QC? i expected sooooo much more from a 1200 computer. thankfully, it's summer break and i won't be needing it as much as school is out.

    Hi Nathan,
Honestly I don't know how many times it will take to get it replaced, since most of my probelem is fixed in one or two visit to apple store.
But I guess their policy is try to fix it first, and if the fixing process require like most of the part to be fixed or replaced or the macbook is unrepairable while still under warranty, then they might consider to replace that macbook with the new one.
But it just my opinion and doesn't reflect actual apple repair policy.
    Good Luck.
