Sticky selection tool with wacom

Hello everyone,
I've read in one other post of the same problem:
I am working on a PC with Illustrator CS6 and an Intuos 4 Wacom pad. Essentially, when I use the selection tool, it will drag the selection box around with me until the pen stops hovering. So I click down, it starts to drag a selection box, I remove the pen and it keeps dragging.
Does anyone have the same problem and is there a solution to this?
this is the post I am talking about:
http://forum.wacom.eu/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10318
Thank you for any help.

I think I've found the cause of the problem but cannot really solve it.
In the options window of the Wacom drive, if I change the Side Switch Mode from "hover click" to "click & tap" then it solves the stickiness of the selection tool. Course, that changes the way you can use the buttons and thus creates a whole other problem, but at least it point to where the problem is.
Hello? Anyone at Adobe listening?

  • Sticky selection tool in Adobe Illustrator CS6 with Wacom Intuos 5 on Windows 7

To make things easier I've made a video to explain my issue, which can be viewed here:
    http://youtu.be/dtOEeJ2tGhQ
Just upgraded to Illustrator CS6. Sadly, my Intuos doesn't get along. When using the select tool, it doesn't 'release' the selection rectangle when it should (when the pen is raised). It does this when the pen is raised while moving. Then the selection rectangle 'sticks' to the cursor until, 1-the pen is lifted far from the tablet until it is no longer recognized, and 2-the pen is held perfectly still for a fraction of a second. This only happens in illustrator. It happens with the select tool and the direct select tool.
I've contacted Wacom about the issue, but I figured I should inquire here to see if anyone is having similar issues, or if a fix can be suggested.
I'm using the latest wacom driver (6.3.5w3) and Illustrator CS6 is up to date (16.0.3). Failed troubleshooting steps: disabling wacom touch tablet service, disabling windows pen & tablet service, trying different versions of wacom drivers, adjusting pressure sensitivy settings.

I solved my own issue.  I saw an article @ http://www.lightroomforums.net/showthread.php?19694-Spot-removal-tool-doesn-t-work-with-Wa com-Intuos-5-in-LR-5 that solved my issue.
    Step 1:
    Walcom Tablet Properties
    Step 2:
Click on Customize and change the default line graph from this:
    Step 3:
    To this
    Step 4:
    Click OK.
After that, my spot edit tool stopped freezing in LR 5.2 while i was using my intuos 5 pen.
Prior to doing this, I also did the procedure listed here:  http://forum.wacom.eu/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8036
So it's possible that both need to be done in order for the freezing to stop.  I hope this can help others.

  • Lightroom 5.2 freezes when using the spot edit tool with Wacom Intuos 5

    Hi,
I've been using Photoshop 6.x with my Intuos 5 for almost a year and it's been great.  I recently purchased Lightroom 5.2 only to discover that when I use the spot edit tool that it freezes when i use this tool as a brush.  It starts off smooth, but after brushing across my area i want to clone/heal, Lightroom seems to freeze up, and the spot edit tool is unusable.  I can lift my pen off the tablet and a few seconds later Lightroom comes back, but the tablet is basically unusable to me.  The mouse works perfectly fine.
I've read other posts at the end of last year '12, that walks through some regedits and disabling some other tablet functions, but none of those work for me.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Selection Tool Not Selecting Properly? PE 2.0

Hi, interesting looking forum you have here! Discovered it today, and then this evening, I find a problem. Typical. At least I knew where to come.
Anyway, working on a project tonight, using the selection tool with a large square brush, I selected a square in a block of black, and erased it using the normal eraser with a round brush set to 'pencil'. I saw it gave a clean edge on the top and left edges, but the right and bottom edges faded out outside the selection. Repeated erasings of the area did give it a nice neat line ... but outside the selection, so it wasn't square. I'm sure I must have some setting ticked and I just don't know what it is.
Piccie below, because I don't think I explained that well. Any help you could give me would be much appreciated!

Since it is not known what caused this unusual behavior so resetting the behavior of tools would be good idea to use the tool at its original functionality. For this click the small triangle at the upper left corner above tools and click Reset Tools and try using the selection now. If issue still persists please reset the settings from Edit->Preferences. Let me know if you have any comments.

  • Cursor Lockup - Path Selection Icon with Tiny Menu(?) Icon Attached

    Hi.
    I'm running CS4 11.0.2 on a Quad-Core Intel MacPro with OS X10.6.6 (6 Gig RAM).
My cursor has changed to an arrow icon (like the Path Selection Tool) with what looks like a tiny pop-up menu stuck on the right side. I can't figure out how to get rid of it. I re-started Photoshop, and re-set the preferences.
I can't use most of the tools. I can use the paintbrush but it is constrained to horizontal and vertical strokes. I feel like I've seen this cursor icon before but I can't remember when it usually shows up or how to get rid of it.
I would include a screenshot but it doesn't show up in any screenshots I've been able to take.
    Thanks in advance
    Dominick

It is an Apple caused bug introduced in 10.6.5 and is still in 10.6.6

  • Quick selection tool vs clipping path

what is better to silhouette an image? a quick selection tool with follow up detailing or a clipping path?

a path is very control-able and great for well defined edges. It can be used to create a selection, which can be made into a mask, which can be refined and edited with a quickmask among other tools. There is rarely ever a one shot solution. Usually a combination of tools and techniques are required.

  • Quick Selection Tool Doesn't Use Shift in the Expected Manner

Generally speaking, if you click somewhere with a tool that you stroke on an image, then hold the Shift key down and click somewhere else, the tool will be stroked in a straight line from the prior point to the current point.  This is very handy under certain conditions.
However, I was just using the Quick Selection Tool to select the shadow of a microphone, and lo and behold an attempt to drag it along a straight line by holding down the Shift key did nothing.
It would be nice if this tool would work like all the others, and stroke a line between where it was and where it's currently being clicked if the Shift key is held down.
    -Noel

I guess I can see the conflict (Shift to add vs. Shift to stroke), but honestly I have learned to use the Quick Selection tool with the default "press nothing and it adds, press Alt and it subtracts" setting, and just never found a use for the mode change.
If you're curious about what I was trying to select, it was the microphone stand shadow on a white suit...  And to be fair it was just a little more elbow grease to get the job done without the shift stroke capability.

  • Multiple Track Select Tool - Deselect one clip

On a Mac, I am using the Track Select tool with the shift key held down to select multiple tracks at a certain point. It keeps selecting one clip more than I want. How can I deselect that one clip and retain the others?

    Peter J Kovacs wrote:
You can just switch back to the Selection Tool and then SHIFT click the tracks you want to deselect.
Alternatively you can just use the Selection Tool to drag a window across the multiple clips/tracks you want to select. However, you must start dragging the selection window in the empty space above all the the track otherwise you'll just end up just moving a clip.

I think you mean switch back to the selection tool and the shift click the clip you want to deselect, not the track.

  • Illustrator Wacom brush / selection tool

    Hello to you!
Novice Wacom Pro user ( yes, that's an Oxymoron )   ... my question is, how do you toggle between the 'Brush tool' and the 'Selection tool' - just from on the 'pen' buttons.
Can anyone explain how to set up this 'simple' operation in the Wacom preferences?  To be able to 'toggle' last tool used or whatever works for you?
With thanX for your knowledge and kindness!

Thank you Monika - I appreciate your suggestion and for your time in replying - especially on Boxing day  : )
Though, I have already tried that...  and it seemed a shame,
to waste both buttons, on what in Illustrator... is a single key stroke action.
I had hoped that you could 'somehow' mimic the same result with just a single button on the pen?
Then leave 'undo' or 'hand tool' free... for the other button.
    Thanks again,
With best wishes, on this festive day...

  • Problem with Wacom Tablet and Brush Tool

When using the brush tool with an Intuos 5 tablet (mostly to edit layer masks), PS will become unresponsive to pen input - that is, I can't draw. The cursor moves, and I can switch tools with the keyboard, but pressing with the pen to tablet does not register. If I click with the mouse, it will register. If I use the spacebar to get the grabber hand then click and drag, the pen will again become responsive. If I click on a palette with the pen, I can draw again.
I have been in touch with Wacom, and at their suggestion, I have:
    1. Downgraded the driver to the previous version.
    2. Reinstalled the driver.
    3. Connected the tablet directly to the computer rather than using a hub or wireless kit
This problem also occurred on my previous computer (mac pro 8x2.8ghz, os 10.8)
When using the same tablet with my laptop, the problem does not occur, nor does it occur when using a Bamboo tablet on the Mac Pro.
I don't see the problem occurring with other tools, but I don't use them as frequently.
One other thing I should mention is that I'm working on very large files (2-6G) but do have 64G of memory installed.
    Currently using:
    Mac Pro 8x2.93ghz
    Mac OS 10.9.1
    PS 13.0.6
I've been back and forth with Wacom via email for about a mothh, and I suspect they are out of troubleshooting options. They suggest the problem is with PS, but I'm not really sure.

    Hi CoGordo4,
Make certain you have "New Art Has Basic Appearance" checked in the Appearance Panel menu.
Also realize that the "Basic" brush, isn't really a brush at all. It simply removes all brush appearances from a stroke.

  • Problem with align and Selection Tool.

This is a weird problem which I cannot explain at all.
I am using AI CS3 with Windows XP.
I am having this completely random problem with the selection tool and align pallette I cannot explain.
I have a group of objects and groups of objects I am trying to use the align pallette on.
Sometimes when I select all of the items I want to align, either by shift-clicking each one, or by drag-selecting them I am getting a random behavior where sometimes the align button will move all of the objects COMPLETELY off of the artboard, all the way to the edge of the working area and beyond into the grey area you cannot see.
Normally, this would be caused by a stray point somewhere way off-screen or some other cleanup oriented thing on my part. However in this case, the behavior is random and does not happen every time I hit the align button.
Sometimes it takes items within my grouped objects (lines of text) and moves THEM completely off the work area, leaving the other items in the groups in place. Sometimes the bounding box when I drag-select the items will stretch extremely far off of the work area.
I have even dragged the extra large bounding box, bringing the edge that was once way off screen onto the work area, in outline view, in hopes of finding the stray point or object that could be causing this. However NOTHING appears that can be causing the align to throw all of my objects off-screen.
The random nature of this behavior and the way it sometimes affects my text objects inside of groups leads me to believe it is a program bug and nothing I am doing.
The behavior takes place regardless if I select by dragging or by shift-clicking, and is happening in more than one file, also randomly.
Also, choosing "align to art board" vs. "align to crop area" does nothing to change this behavior.
It is quite irritating. I've been using illustrator since v.88 so I have enough experience to know this is not normal.
Any help with this one would be greatly appreciated.

When this behaviour occurs, are perhaps guides included in your selection?

  • Can no longer re-size with selection tool

For some reason, I can no longer resize objects with the selection tool.  When I click on an element, the handles appear, but remain solid.  When I select to scale the item, the whole item moves.  Any suggestions?

Cmd(Ctrl)-Shift-B which is the toggle for Show/Hide Bounding Box or maybe Cmd(Ctrl)-H the toggle for Show/Hide Edges.

    Hi!
I restarted the computer, but the same issue happens again. When I move my mouse over some object or tool, it doesn’t come active at all (only some of the tools works) When I try to change “site properties”, I can’t choose tablet or phone mode or even I can’t select the checkboxes, only thing what I can do is change the numbers (high and width) . After all the main problem is that I can’t select some of the items or functions by mouse, but only by the keyboard.

  • Change the background with a bunch of kids? Quirky quick selection tool?

Main Objective:  How can I change the background behind a bunch of kids? My quick selection tool is quirky! Like the HS kids in the pic….
The 2nd photo is what I am looking to do.
When I try the quick selection tool, it's all wonky & quirky now.  I can't select little bits any more! It just basically takes the whole stinkin' page! What did I do?!  Are there defaults?
On watched video number 85 today, I tried to use my stylus and the bamboo pad. (Good grief; that's another story...it moves & I'm not even touching the pad; what's up with that?! Way too confusing, so I gave up!)
    Anyway..this is what I need.
What is easier for me to remove the background?  The kids?  Pretend I didn't say yes to help with this project?
All the video tutorials on how to remove backgrounds is always on a perfect object...not a real life mess of a class.  So... HELP!!!
    Please.
This is WAY over my head; but I'm trying. Really.
On a mac with CC membership.

You may find it easier to select the kids than the background. Instead of copying to new layer, create a mask, then you can add or remove as you like.
In the top tool bar click the icon in the middle to add to selection. Then use your option key to remove.
When you are nearing done, you can then refine the mask. If necessary you can use the other selection tool for straight lines, large areas etc. For tight places you may prefer to use the quick mask tool (lowercase q)
Take your time, you will get it. And like I said, using a mask will let you take a breather. It can help walking away for a bit.

  • Can't move objects with selection tools?

As of last night, I am able to select objects in my documents but I am unable to move them using the selection tools.  I'm having to just scoot things around with the arrow keys.  I've already tried restoring my preferences and that hasn't helped.
    I'm running OS 10.6.8 and InDesign CS6 8.0.1
Also, for what it's worth, any time I try to use the selection tools in Illustrator, Illustrator crashes but doesn't give me a crash report.  This started happening at the same time.
    Any ideas?

Well, it was a long shot.
You mentioned replacing the prefs. For ID that's a bit more complicated than some of the other Adobe apps, so I like to verify that you did the whole job. You'll find instructions for doing it manually or using a keybaord shortcut on launch here: Replace Your Preferences
I'm concerned, though that Illustrator also seems to be acting up. Maybe you should replace the mouse driver.
