Sticky Threads

Okay, I admit, this is just a pet peeve of mine, but it seems that about half the sticky threads at the top of this forum are either outdated or badly outdated.
Two examples;
Can I REALLY still win a CS3 Master Collection?
And how many people are still having problems with the serial number for their CS2 demo?
As I said, just a pet peeve rant. Sorry for the interruption. Return to what you were doing.

Nobody seem to read those anyway. "FAQ, what FAQ?"
As for ad-enabled PDFs ... perhaps the idea didn't quite have the magnitude they hoped. I never heard of those since.

  • Mods, could we get a sticky thread in the Logic Pro board?

By my count there are upwards of thirteen separate threads asking if there is a free upgrade to Logic Pro X for recent buyers.  Could we get a sticky thread about it or FAQ (and maybe even lock the redundant threads)?  It's a bit maddening and I'm sure there will be many more.

Look under the individual forums (column on the left), and there is a TAB for each of "User Tips".
The list of threads continue to roll down as new threads are updated/created.  Any thread that stays in view forever would clog the arteries.

  • Cat... What about a sticky thread upda

Been away for a bit and even after my extended absence I can still see some of the same Q's coming up.
Specifically microphone Q's, can you not tag a little line or two onto a thread somewhere explaining that the mic needs to be made the acti've recording device to work? That and renaming the mic may be required to make it work in Vista in some instances?
This question is reasonable, comes up fairly regularly and has a simple answer, surely that makes it a prime candidate for an FAQ/Sticky thread of some kind.
Also how about updating the "Response to forum questions and latest updates" thread, e.g. is the 4Gb RAM/BSOD issue fixed or not now? I'm sure I saw you say as much a while back yet the sticky hasn't been corrected to say as much, plus this would probably be an ideal thread to tag that mic solution on to.Message Edited by Giftmacher on 07-25-2007:57 AM

  • Sticky Threads in ABAP Forum

After the most recent upgrade, all of the sticky threads of all of the ABAP sub-forums appear at the top of the main forum. This pushes new threads further down the list. As a result we have to refresh more often and put more pressure on the SDN servers.
So could the stickies just appear at the top of the sub forums like they used to?
    Rob

    I second that!!!

  • Sticky Thread: Funny threads?

For our occational amusement I'd suggest to add a sticky thread here where everybody can add funny/strange/whatever threads found in SDN.
E.g. I think this one is very funny
The specified item was not found.
Someone asking a rather strange questions and lots of people posting stuff not necessarily related to the question. Than even duplication of answers occurs by different posters.

  • V04 Error.... Sticky thread didn't help :(

    Morning all.
I got the V04 error for the first time yesterday morning (I've had BtVision since January) and I am still getting the error now.
I have followed the instructions in the sticky thread about V04 several times, along with turning the hub and vision box off seperately to each other and sadly it has made no difference.
BBC Iplayer works fine and I can download on my pc at the maximum line speed no problem, so I have no idea why this is happening.
We dont get much reception and so rely on On Demand to watch a number of programs, so would love to get this sorted as soon as.

  • Sticky thread out of date

It's probably best to update the "Update to Android 5.0 now rolling out" thread in the sticky section, isn't it? Theat's a rhetorical question, because 5.1 is now rolling out. It's not that major a point to me, but it might be to others. And it shows a bit of lack of attention and care from the official Sony mods. It does not instill confidence, let's put it that way. I wonder how long it will take the non-Sony mods, but regular posters here, to contact the official Sony people and get it changed. That's the absolute minimum time it will take for a well-meaning but powerless Sony forum moderator to be aware of your problem, let alone escalate it. Luckily 5.1 seems like the best update I've received whilst using Xperias, so well done Google and Sony. If Sony keep pumping them out like this then we can only blame Google if it's sub-standard.

That's very quick, I concede to your power

  • Proposal for a sticky thread "Performance of SAP standard"

    Hello,
in this form there are many questions about your programs, selects function modules but what about the SAP standard programs, they are not always the best performing things on your system. What do you think about a thread with improvements of SAP standard programs?
Ok, that should be the job of SAP, but sometimes everybody needs a little kick.
So this thread should collect suggestions of improvements of SAP coding. These suggestions should be very precise, so SAP should implement them easily. I'm pretty sure, everybody will find some not optimized code during debugging, learning, ... .
So , lets start with an example
    Function module CO_SF_HEADER_GOODS_ISSUE
SELECT SINGLE * FROM caufv WHERE aufnr EQ aufnr.
There is no need for select *, because only the fields
    autyp
    loekz
    objnr
    gamng
    gmein
    rsnum
    are needed during the FM.
    so lets improve the code
select single aufnr loekz autyp gamng gmein rsnum
    from caufv into (wa_caufv-aufnr,
                      wa_caufv-loekz,
                      wa_caufv-autyp,
                      gamng, gmein, rsnum)
With this code we can also kill three moves in the last lines.
    MOVE: caufv-gamng TO gamng,
          caufv-gmein TO gmein,
          caufv-rsnum TO rsnum.
That was easy, on my testsystem it is 38% less database-time for the select and a little for the three moves.
    What do you think?
    Matthias

Not sure I'm on board,  I doubt SAP will take suggestions for modifying their code via a forum post, I think it is best to go thru OSS.
Anyway, a little story for ya.  We had a program which was sort of like CO41(collective planned order conversion), but was custom because we needed to include characterisics, so we have this program that gets all of the planned orders and then does CO40 transaction over each one.  This worked in the begining, but after some time the runtime was extremely bad, like hours long.  So I did some investigation and found the exact SELECT statement deep inside of CO40, and found that the WHERE clause was not written in such a way that was good for my company.  I contacted OSS, and pointed them to the exact place in the code that was giving us a problem.  I told them that the one line in the WHERE clause needed to b commented out, then the performance would be much better.  They came back after a number of days, and said, the SELECT statement was written in such a way that it works for all business processes.  At my company, our business process dictated that the one line in the WHERE clause was not necessary and even hurting our performance.  Anyway, they said they would not issue a change for us and that we either had to hack it ourselves or totally redo the way our task list groups where set up.  The problem was is that we had a couple task list groups, with thousands and thousands of materials assign to it. This was the problem.  So I hacked the standard program, and it actually shaved of 3 hours of processing time.

  • @ sticky thread "Digital Connections, SPDIF.

    Hi there,
In the thread is mentioned it is NOT possible to play games with surround sound over a digital connection because of the GAMES lack the possibility to encode Dolby:
    PC Games
PC games usually use technologies like as EAX to create surround sound, not Dolby Digital. So even if your speaker system has a Dolby Digital decoder, it will be of no use when playing games. The EAX processing is done on the soundcard, and the 6-channel sound is output via the analogue (or digital DIN if available). So you still need analogue connections to your digital speakers for games, if you just use an optical/coax cable you will only get the front left/right sound.
(N.B. X-Box games do support Dolby Digital, so if you connect your X-Box to your Dolby Digital receiver/speakers with the optical cable, you can get full surround sound.)
I think this is not quite correct!
X-Box games do not support Dolby, it is the X-Box!
Sure, PC games do not encode their sound in Dolby, but it is the task of the soundcard to do so. Games create surround sound using EAX, directSound and APIs like that.
(by the way: Dolby Digital is no possibility to create surround sound, it is just an encoding of the final signal)
The digital surround sound, computed by the soundcard (that is why I have bought it, to have it create the sound, and not the CPU) is then passed to the digital interface for CL's speaker systems, or converted to an analog signal.
And there, on the soundcard, I am missing the ability to encode Dolby Digital.
There is no way games will provide Dolby, nor would it be useful to transfer the sound from the soundcard to the CPU and back again for this task.
Why is there no card supporting that? Would it be to expensi've?
What about a Sounblaster series like X-Fi Fatalty Pro Dolby?Message Edited by MCsnuffBobbyK on 08-04-2006 09:24 PM

finchy wrote:What? With all do respect Dale-Cl, don't tell pepople bull**bleep** 'cause I can't stand it anymore."This is because it takes much overhead to encode Dolby, and the sound card isn't fast enough to do this."Part me, but my 4 year-old INTERGRATED music chip (NVidia SoundStorm) can encode to Dolby Digital easily. So the X-fi Processor got more MiPS than Pentium 4 and still cannot handle encoding to DD? C'mon, people are not stupid. Every major card from other producer can encode it to DD and the best ones to DTS Connect. How about You are going to write straight that Creative Labs does NOT want pay licences for using above technologies? Even the worse true is better than constant cheating on your customers.RegardsFinch
The nVidia SoundStorm is the same chip as the one in XBox and it is a dedicated HARDWARE encoder. And nVidia doesn't have the license to produce it anymore. There is NO other sound card chip available now that can do hardware encoding. Only CMedia (not like you sayd "every major card") has some chips that can do software encoding, but from my experience with them, the CPU load is important and in games that is bad.Message Edited by SoNic2367 on 08-04-2006 06:50 PM

  • Sticky?

I'm guessing there aren't many moderators around but, I think creating sticky threads that stay at the top of the forum would help. Example: problems with the ipod touch and syncing new january applications, it's been asked 40 times, and I've had to reply to all 40 of them. Now why can't the thread I made be stuck to the top so that people don't have to do this? Almost every other electronics forum has this feature.

Now why can't the thread I made be stuck to the top so that people don't have to do this?
The forums software doesn't have a stickies feature.
it's been asked 40 times, and I've had to reply to all 40 of them
That, unfortunately, is an issue in most technical forums: for one reason or another, people are reticent about using the search function, so answers have to be repeated over and over again. At least in AD, experienced members are generally forgiving of that (hmm, or maybe it's just that they like the easy opportunities to score Solved stars by cutting and pasting ready-made answers they keep in their home databases...), unlike other forums I participate in where people are more than ready to n00b-smack people for making the mistake of asking a question for the fortieth time.
On the upside, when you reach Level 2, you will be able to submit the answers to oft-asked questions to the User Tips Library (linked at the bottom right of the main page). If you haven't looked through there already, you may find that there are a lot of useful answers to which you can steer people, all of them created in reaction to exactly the type of issue you are posting about here.
    Good luck!

  • Problems installing drivers for my pretty old soundcard. (Thread detailed).

Hello, my friends audio card for some reason stopped to work, so I gave him my old card. Unfortunately, I have lost my CD.
(And yes, I have read the sticky thread Sound Blaster FAQ).
    Here is what I did:
Wrote all information that might get useful from card to PC, result:
    Creative Audio
    EMU0k-NEF
    Tech 97
    oo0E3020
    CT4830
    32GPC05D98A
The bolded like "CT4830" seem to be the only useful word I managed to get from my card.
Then it was searching, a lot of googling, a lot of sites trying to offer their perfect "driver scanner", if I searched for etc EMU0k, scamming and virus sites would automatic manage to track the exact component I was looking for. While creative.com wasn't even top 50.
Back to point: I went on creative.com, I personally think it is a very messy site, I click on support, download, and I see a list of products, I choose Sound Blaster, and I get a few models to pick from.
Now here I was stuck for a long time, I could not find my model there, it was only those new "awesome" models, so I had to find a little, almost impossible noticeable link at the bottow "cant find your model, click here" something like that. With small letters. NOT VERY USERFRIENDLY!
And then I get to a list, I know, I have model CT4830, and I know "Audigy" is written on the card. But I could not find it in any of the audigy categories, some categories was missing images, so this was also a very tricky part.
Then I found a list which could help me get the full name of my audio card, and I managed to catch up that CT4830 for some reason has the full name "Sound Blaster Li've! Value/Player Compaq /Intel/IBM/NEc"
And this helped me a little (I think), since I had to look in the Li've category, even though it also was Audigy, it was not stated in the full name of the card.
Now I found the most similar thing in "li've" category, called "Sound Blaster li've! Value". Nothing about compaq, intel IBM or nec or anything like that, just Sound blaster li've! Value.
I downloaded the driver, released in 2003, I had an option to go for 2005 64bit XP driver, or 2003 driver (no OS mentioned in describtion), I assume the driver was for 32bit, since there was already another newer stated driver for 64bit.
I managed to install this driver, it runs fine, no error messages occurs in the installation.
It asks me to reboot, and I reboot, and on next startup, still nothing happens.
So after all this research, what have I done wrong? Wrong driver? Which is the correct driver? Where can I download it's
I am sorry for my frustrating behavior on this post, sorry, I just don't know what to do

O You can find some of the original installation CDs in ISO form on Badboy's FileFront site. I believe this one is for your SB Li've value card as well as for some Audigy cards. These are for WinXP and older OSs.
