Still can't get Photoshop CS4 extended to launch in OS 10.4 or 10.5

Hi,
I posted this question recently and thought I had an answer.
>>>>I have the Adobe Creative Suite installed on my Powermac DP 1.8 MHz (2004). I have 1.5 GB RAM,
and the system runs pretty well. I do have some 3rd party RAM added, and added a new graphics card recently.
I cannot get Photoshop to launch at all. It crashes during "loading suites", and the crash report mentions:
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000020
Crashed Thread: 0
Thread 0 Crashed:
0 libSystem.B.dylib 0x96d377d4 _none_wcsnrtombs + 60
1 libSystem.B.dylib 0x96c5c754 __swsetup + 212
.....and the list is longer.
Anyway, I tried all the usual things, deleting preferences, checking the disk, booting 10.4 in safe mode. I even upgraded to 10.5, got a new graphics card and had the same results after an "archive and install".
The only other variable I can think of is the video card, unless the Photoshop install disk is bad.
All the other applications from the suite seem to work OK, though not extensively tested.
My old video card was an nVidia 5200 ultra 64MB. I upgraded the card by buying a reconditioned, flashed PC card, the nVidia 6800 GT 256MB. The card seems to work great. It is listed as compatible for Windows PCs. Could there be some incompatibility with it??
Thanks for any advice. I'd hate to have to downgrade to CS3 for this. <<<<
Back to the new message... So i bought an nVidia 7800 GS that should be compatible, and the seller said it was tested with OpenGL and Photoshop CS4, but it STILL crashes with the same error message. Bad install disk? Anyone have an idea? Thanks.

Hi,
The guy I bought the GeForce 7800 GS card said it had been tested with photoshop CS4 in Leopard.
Breaking news... I tried re-installing Photoshop, Now there's an error at the end of the installation. "Done with Errors" which leads to the Support Advisor which leads to...
"Error "Unable to read Adobe file version for path /Library/Fonts/MinionPro-Bold.otf" when installing the Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Point Products on Mac OSX"
Is my whole problem font-related? I tried unlocking the Minion font mentioned, re-installed. same thing. I moved all the Minions fonts to the desktop, still no good. Are all the fonts locked? The info window said that font was unlocked to System read/write, but locked to read-only for Admin. There's no way to unlock all the fonts at once? Help!

Thanks for everyone's help, I figured it out,
    >Turns out my install process was flawed.
There was a font problem. After I first installed just parts of the suite, the message
at the end was "Installed with errors", and I thought that was because I left some programs out. When I did it this time, and got the same message, I used Install Advisor, and it correctly stated some needed fonts had the wrong permissions. I went in and manually changed the permissions of the fonts I thought Adobe would need in that folder to "Admin read & write".
It works great now, and I have OpenGL support in the flashed 6800 GT card, as well as in the flashed 7800 GS card I tried earlier.

  • Is there a store in HongKong where you can buy Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended?

Um... Does anyone know where in HongKong I can buy Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended? And how much does it cost there?

I would think that Adobe would have a list of authorized re-sellers. If not, then contact their International Sales Dept., and inquire. That should get you a list.

  • Where can I get Photoshop CS4 64bit?

I've seen a lot of people talking about Photoshop CS4 64bit native code, but I can't figure out where to get it.
I'm currently using Windows XP, but plan to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional 64bit in a week or two.  I'm going to reload all my programs from scratch and would like to start with the 64bit version of Photoshop CS4.
I purchased the standard Photoshop CS4 CD from Adobe, but I don't remember seeing anything about the 64bit version when I initially loaded the 32bit version on WinXP 32bit.  Maybe I didn't see anything because I don't have a 64bit system yet.
I have Googled and looked for this information in Adobe's Knowledgebase with no luck...
    Thanks...

The hardware sub-forum at Premiere has a LOT of discussion about building a 64bit computer

While a video editing computer may be slightly different... actually needing more power than static picture editing... there are a lot of ideas there which may help

  • How can I get Photoshop CS4 to open?

I just got the Adobe Production Suite CS4 Student Edition, I installed it onto my computer (Windows XP Media Center Edition), All of my programs run great except for Photoshop. When I try to open Photoshop it gets to the building twain portioin of the startup and then an error pops up stating that Photoshop has encountered a problem and needs to close, so I have yet to succesfully open photoshop, how might I fix this problem?
P.S. I have already installed the Patch 11.01 and i have alreadey updated my graphics card.

Try disabling the Twain plug-in by placing a Tilde (~) in front of it.
    It's in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-Ins\Import-Export

  • How can I get Photoshop CS4 to work now that I have CS6 (which I dislike for many reasons), on the s

I have recently purchased CS6 Mac, and now that it's on my computer CS4 won't work.  Adobe told me to post the question on this forum because they refuse to provide any tech support for CS4 or earlier versions of PS now that 6 is out.
Also, they won't provide any help regarding the fact that all my images from CS4 open at 25% instead of 100% which they did in CS4.  They say I just have to highlight the 25 and type in 100.  Needless to say that is absurd and a big time waster.
Any help is appreciated.  OS mountain lion on a mac mini, also new.
    Thanks,
    bonnie

HI and thank you both for your help.  Here is the screen shot.  I don't know if you can see that there is actually an image open.  It's a business card so it's small to begin with, but this is NOT how things opened in CS4.
The percentage in the lower left cannot be seen because the window is too large and even though I quite the program, it still opened as large as when I closed it.  But it was something like .38%
How do I get it back to normal working size?
Another thing I dislike is that when I do a screen shot there is no way to save it without first clicking the red 'close this' button and then reopening it and using 'save as' to type in the correct name.  If I use command s I just get 'untitled with a number'.  It's a lot of unnecessary steps.  Also, is there no other way to save a screen shot other than as a tif and then reopening it to save it as a jpg?
The cyan lines seemed to have disappeared when opening the other images.  This version is making me nuts.  That's why I want my CS4 back and operational.
ALSO, I want my brushes that I have collected over the years... they didn't make it over from the dying Mac Pro to this Mac Mini.  They are all in CS4.  How do I do that?
That's a good beginning for why I don't like it.
    Thank you,
    bonnie

  • Where can I get Photoshop cs4 trial?

I've not been able to afford the ridiculous prices to keep up with cs, cs2, cs3, etc. I'm wanting to buy cs4 but I want to try it first. All I can find on this asinine Adobe download site is the current cs 5.5. I cannot use 5.5 because I do not have an Intel machine! Does Adobe care about us not-so-rich-one-man-studios any more?

Be careful!  Adobe does not sell it any more.  Be sure to buy from a reputable source, or you'll get ripped off.

I currently have photoshop cs3 and just upgraded to Mavericks on my Mac. No I cannot use cs3. Is there anything I can do to get cs3 to respond?

Found this on Canon's site about Lion problems which doesn't sound too promising. It says they hope it's fixed by 4th quarter 2011 but that's past now.
We need to inform you that, due to certain incompatibilities between Mac OS X Lion (10.7) and our previously released Mac OS X 10.6 Printer and Fax drivers, you may not be able to print and an error log file will be generated that could potentially fill up the hard drive of your Macintosh computer. • Where can I get Photoshop CS4?

CS4 is the only version that will work with my version of Mac and I need it for an online class ASAP. I can't seem to find a place to download it from.

It is not sold by Adobe.  You might find it on eBay, but that site is rif with counterfeits.

My current Camera Raw 5.7 for Photoshop CS4 Extended does not support Canon EOS 6D. What can I do? Will there be a Photoshop Camera RAW for that?

You would need Camera Raw 7.3 or later to open those files. Adobe is not going to update CS4. You can either get a newer version of Photoshop that comes with a current version of Camera Raw, or you can use the DNG converter to save your files down to the ACR version that works with CS4.

  • After a re-install, it is impossible in Photoshop CS4 Extended to give a preset size to the Crop Tool. How can I het it back?

After a re-install of Photoshop CS4 Extended, because of problems with my iMac, it is impossible to give a preset size to the Crop Tool. How is that possible - and how can I repair that?

Did you trash the Photoshop's preferences before re-installing?
Reinstalling without trashing the preferences is futile, as you still have all the corruption there.
Quit Photoshop now and trash preferences:
Hold down Command, Option, and Shift keys while starting up Photoshop. A dialog box will appear asking if you wish to delete the preferences/settings file.  Click on yes.

  • I need to install photoshop cs4 extended from a disk to a new computer because my old computer had a hard drive crash. There is no serial number on the back of the case.  How can I obtain a usable serial number?

I have to install Photoshop CS4 extended on a new computer from a disk because my old computer had a hard drive crash.  There is no serial number on the back of the case.  How can I obtain a usable serial number?

    Find your serial number quickly
You can activate software without following up and registering it... at least that was the case in the past.  The serial number is normally located on the disc case or a box inside the main box.  If you did not purchase the disc from Adobe then it is possible you would have dealt with a redemption code, in which case it would have been up to you to keep a record of the serial number, especially if you did not follow up and register the software.

  • Can I use Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended on my brand new iMac? I had PS on my old Mac using the student licensing.

About four years ago, I purchased Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended while I was in undergrad. I downloaded it to my Mac. Since then, I've purchased a brand new iMac. Can I use this same software? I know it's been four years so the software is very updated, AND my new iMac does NOT have a cd drive. This may all be in vain. I'm just clueless! Thanks!

Emalexander89 you are welcome to install Photoshop CS4 on your new Mac.  You can download a fresh copy of the installation files at Download CS6 products.

  • I can't install Adobe Photoshop CS4 extended at all

I downloaded Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended (Trial Version) from the Adobe.com website through Akamai downloader. Well, i tried to install it clicking on the set up, but it started to install and a few minutes later stopped and displayed a error message. The message, without error code identifications, just informed that there was an error during the instalation and Adobe bridge and another one could not be installed.
I tried again and it started, but when it was almost finishing another message appeared warning that "there was an error during the instalation(again no code error identification) and that Photoshop could not be installed.
I follow some tips like shutting down the firewall, AV,  but it didn't work. I used the system restoring so that i could completely clean up remaining files and tried to reinstall it, but again nothing.
    Has anybody any idea?
    Thanks

    Hi again.

I know that John, when i said that i usually run the system as administator, i meant that i logged on as administrator. Sorry if i caused a misunderstood.
I decided to format the computer again. Perhaps, some problem during the system instalation may have caused this problem. After that, i'll try to install it and see what's gonna happen. I've decided to do it because If it is caused by an instalation error of the main system, it may  also cause hassles when using other softwares. But if it is not caused by an instalation error i'll come back to get help.
    Thanks for responding
