Still can't install Flash On Vista w/FF

I have tried just about everything to get the new version of Flash to install.  I have used the Adobe uninstaller.  I have unstalled the plugins(I am using FF 3.6). I have disabled the plugin for getPlusPlus for Adobe 16263.   I have looked all over the website and forums trying to get this to work.  I have restarted my computer so many times I have lost count.  I have used the manual installer as well as the one on the download page.  I am going on four hours straight of trying  to make this work.  What do I do?
I am using Windows Vista Home premium 64bit.  I use Firefox exclusively.  I have Norton 360 installed.  I do not use Microsoft's User account management.  I have exited AdAware.  I don't usually disconnect from the internet or turn off my Norton.  I have cable broadband and I'm not sure I've ever turned it off.  I have the Java plugins  Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U18  6.0.10.7 & Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.180.7.  I'm sure this is very scattered approach, sorry I'm not computer savvy and very frustrated by this point.  Any help would be appreciated.
Edit:  I opened IE just to see if I could get flash to install on it.  It did.  I really don't care for IE though and would like to go back to FF.

Hi MED401, Within the last 24 hours or so it appears that FF(Firefox) version 3.6 is causing problems. That is one thing
and it appears also with the 64bit system. Users are experiencing problems that they have not had before and at this time, the exact cause has not been determined.
First Adobe Flash Player does not support the 64bit system. However you can install Flash Player but you must use the 32bit system to do so.
Second, Norton is a problem as they have many components that even if you Disable it, it is still running in the background. Adobe has an advisory about it in the Troubleshooting guide here:
http://go.adobe.com/kb/ts_tn_19166_en-us  Keep in mind that you disconnect from the Internet BEFORE you Disable your Anti-Virus/Spyware program and Disable the Firewall. So you do not need this protection while off the Internet.
My suggestion would be that if you want to install Flash Player into the FF browser that you be willing to follow the procedures that many others have followed. These steps are for the purpose of having a clean Uninstall and to have the
best opportunity for a successful Install of the Adobe Flash Player.
You can view this thread and decide if you would like to follow it and if you have any questions, please ask.

  • Can't install Flash on Vista clean install

OK...I am thoroughly frustrated. I am working on a clean
install of Vista Ultimate, administrator account with all requisite
permissions, IE7 is conifgured to prompt for Active X, etc. Yet,
when I try to install Flash Player, I get to the screen that has
the green bars running across as if it is installing. Then, it
either runs forever, or I get a pop-up saying "Network Error" or
"Download Interrupted". I am able to download anything from every
other site on the web, so I am not worried about my network
settings. When I check system32/.Macromed directory, there is no
Flash sub-directory, only a Download directory. In that directory
are the following files: Install.exe and Download.dll.
Can anyone please help??? I am pulling my hair out (and I
    don't have a lot left!)
P.S. I have another Vista computer that has FLash on it. Can
I just copy the files from that computer?

That's interesting, and unusual. The two files that you DO
see are put there by the install process. They basically -are- the
    Flash Player installer.
If you were installing the Flash Player PLUGIN (for FireFox,
any non-IE windows browser) then you could copy it over. But for
the OCX activeX control install you cannot. It has to actually
    install.
Can you grab and post a screen shot of those errors? I don't
find any other similar cases in the database.. it's not clear to me
if they're coming from Vista or from the installer..

  • Still can't install Flash on IE8!

    Hey everyone...
I've tried every fix on the internet for my brand new HP Envy to get Flash installed. I'm out of luck.
Can anyone help me with additional support?
    Thank you!!

Flash Player for IE11 is already installed by Microsoft with Windows 8. You CAN'T install or update it here.
That said, IE11 is an abomination and should be recalled. It's wrought havoc all over the web because, as they all-too-often do, Microsoft released it for public use without testing it in a "real world environment". Hundreds of webpages and dozens of sites don't recognize it, and if they don't recognize the browser, they can't recognize the plugins the browser uses, including Flash Player.
Microsoft's recommendation is to enable Compatibility View for affected pages. There are a few problems with that.
    1. You have to individually enable it for each page that has problems, which is a real pain.
    2. Enabling Compatibility View has had only limited success at best.
    3. Bacisally, this solution is saying "Change your  settings to 'pretend' you're using something else."
I'm not a big fan of "pretending" so I recommend actually using something else... something else that works without having to change settings for every page you visit.
    Firefox (Mozilla)
    Opera (Opera)
    Safari (Apple)
    Chrome (Google)
ANY of those will work better than IE11, and Chrome has its own Flash Player built in. The others need the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers).

  • Still can't install Flash Catalyst

I get an error message during file extraction "A Problem Occurred While Extracting the Archive"; don't have any previous versions installed, checked all the other issues I can think of, deleted and downloaded again, etc.  Running Windows 7.
    Any advice?

    Hi,
Can you be more specific?  When you go back to your original admin login, are you trying to run the installer again?  Or are you actually launching Flash Catalyst now that it's been installed under the other account?  What do you see on your screen when you run it?  Does a splash screen appear and does the main window eventually appear too?  What do you mean by "nothing else that will let me do"?  Are there options but they are grayed out?  Is the window blank?  Does no window ever appear?
    Thanks,
    - Peter

  • Can't Install Flash for Firefox

I was prompted today by Firefox to install the latest version of Flash. Unfortunately, the installer says I have insufficient permissions for the file C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32.dll. As I understand it, that would mean I don't have administrative permissions, but I do. I am on the only account on this computer, an administrator account.
I downloaded the uninstaller to try to start fresh. It uninstalled successfully, but when I tried to install, I get the same error. Now I have no flash at all for Firefox.
I tried to use IE instead, and that worked perfectly. I can view flash content in IE now fine. Unfortunately, I guess I have to install it for Firefox separately, because I still can't view flash content in Firefox.
I am using the latest version of Firefox on Windows 7 64 bit. Does anyone have any idea what to do?

    alliaphagist wrote:
     NPSWF32.dll has a modified date of 7/17/2009.
That sounds quite old!  Can I assume that all other files in that folder are newer?
    Can you try the following:
open a Command Prompt (Start | Run | type cmd )
in the Command Prompt window type this sequence of commands
    cd \
    cd Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
    regsvr32 /u NPSWF32.dll
    exit
(You can copy and paste, or type everything in just lowercase characters.)
Next open Windows Explorer, go to C:Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash and delete NPSWF32.dll (also install.txt, as it is probably also old).
If you cannot delete that file, what error message do you get?
P.S. there should be no web browsers running when you do all the above.

  • The old permissions problem - Can't install Flash

I know this is an old problem but I have tried every remedy in the book and some I never heard of.  I simply cannot get access to the old dll file.
Vista tells me I don't even have permission to view the permissions of this object.  So, to put it simply I can't install Flash 10.1 and the old one has been uninstalled except for the troublesome dll file.
I have tried every method of either lowering the permission level or raising my authority without success. I have even tried some risky approaches.  Is there a way to force the installer to install the new version to a new location?
    TIA.
[I have spent hours on this both yesterday and today.]

Hi, Forgive me for omitting the essential info. I am running Vista Home
Premium (32bit), My primary browser is Opera 10.61.   I also have a
recent version of Chrome and IE 8 on my machine.
The error message on installing Flash 10 is that it doesn't have
    sufficient permissions to write to
    Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\NSPWF.dll:5).
Since my previous note,I have temporarily solved the problem by
downloading the xpi version of Flash and putting the appropriate files
in the Opera plugins directory. However that does not solve the problem
    for Crhome or IE8.
The larger problem is that I have run the installer as administrator,
logged on as administrator, tried changing the properties and owner of
the dll file and the entire Macromed folder.  I even tried renaming the
folder. Permission is always denied.  The most offending notice is one
that tells me that I don't even have permission to see or edit the
    permissions of the dll.
Note: I did check to make sure that no identifiable processes were
running that would not let me access the dll.
    Thanks.

  • Can't install flash player on Mac OSX version 10.4.11

    Hello
I've spent the morning trying to do this and still no joy. I had flash player already and when trying to use the 4oD website it asked me to download or upgrade flashplayer. I did, the correct version according to my mac version. All goes well and the window message says 'installed successfully'.The only thing I find strange is that just before this message appears I hear the sound of items being put in the 'trash' ... and there they are. Other times the message error -1409 appears. The only icon that appears is the Flash player installer.pkg so not sure whether the application was installed or just the installer!  All web searches prompt me to download the missing plug in, both in safari and mozilla. Java script is definitely enabled on both browsers.
I have use the uninstall package three times, restarted the computer, downloaded flash player again but no change.
Forgive my limited use of jargon - this doesn't make any sense to me but I've just spent 3 hours following instructions to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Monika

  • I can't install Flash Builder from the Web Premium suite, what should I do?

I just downloaded the Adobe Creative suite 5.5 Web Premium and am about to install the program but notice a note next to the Adobe Flash Builder program... it explains that my system doesn't have the requirements needed for this program. I checked and it explains further details stating that I need to have a • Mac OS X v10.5.6–10.6 and I doubled check which version I have and it's OS X 10.5.8. Doesn't this actually mean that it does meet the requirements?

We do still need more information such as how much memory you have,
resolution of your monitor, how much disk space you have free, which
processor are you using.  I good guide is to look at the system
requirements and try to post for each of the items within the
requirements.  The system requirements for Web Premium can be found

Also you can find this information within your System Profiler.  The
easiest way to access the system profiler is to go to the Apple Menu
and select About this Mac.  Once selected clicking on the more info
button will launch the System Profiler.

For Internet Explorer, you don't. Microsoft has already done it.
For Firefox, Opera or Safari, use the Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
For Chrome, you don't need to wither because Google puts it in the browser.
