Still dropping wifi on iMac after 8.1.1 updates

Have been on a few service calls to Apple after installing Yosemite..as my IMac keeps dropping the wifi signal and is stubborn to rejoin..tells me my router is not recognized 15 times..before it accepts it..then drops it after sleep mode.  All other devices work fine off same router..Apple laptops, Iphones 5 5s and 6, ipads, ipod touch..but the imac is wanky.  Service call last night said 8.1.1 updates will fix this...well after update it is worse than ever.  Apple help..you are jamming up my wifi connectivity with a bug in Yosemite

Hi dukecity,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The resource below provides some steps to try if your iMac can't recognized your iPad.
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X - Apple Support
http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS1591
Follow these steps to resolve your issue:
If you haven't connected your iOS device to this computer before, unlock the device and tap Trust. Learn more about the Trust This Computer alert.
Restart your iOS device.
Restart your Mac.
Make sure that your Mac meets the minimum system requirements for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Install software updates on your Mac.
If an iTunes update is available, apply the update.
Check USB connections. iOS devices need USB 2.0 to work properly. If you're not sure your Mac has USB 2.0 ports, check the computer's specifications.
Disconnect other USB devices and connect your device directly to a USB port on your Mac.
Try another USB cable.

My Safari Icon ( Button) is missing on my iMac after I downloaded a update. How can I get the icon  (Button Safari) back on my desktop and connecting again to the Internet ?...
    Thanks for the help

Often when people think they've deleted an application, what's really happened is that they deleted its icon from the Dock. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. If the application is in that folder, drag it to the Dock (not to the Desktop or anywhere else.) The other Dock icons will move out of the way to make a place for it.

OS X Yosemite v10.10.3 Update - I had problems with my iMac after installing the previous update and I removed that update.  Have there been problems associated with this update ?

I've been using it on all of my computer without any problems. Remember you won't see any positive comments here. Everyone here is complaining about a problem. If you want a good experience with any upgrade or update first make a backup from which you can boot the computer. If you are installing an update, like 10.10.3 for example, always download and install the Combo Updater - OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 Combo Update. Before you install any update or upgrade over an existing system you should do this:Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

  • Looping Restart in Early Intel iMac after recent 10.5 update

My friend's iMac is stuck in a restart loop after downloading the latest update for her 10.5 system. She hadn't installed an update for about 4 months so I am not sure what update would have caused the loop. Her computer was working fine before the update so I am picking it is a software issue.
Having searched the forums I haven't come up with people experiencing a similar problem.
    _*What is happening:*_
Hit the startup button, it hangs in the white Apple logo screen with the spinning icon for five to ten minutes ... then it automatically restarts itself returning to the same loop over and over again.
    _*What I have done:*_
    1. Tried a PRAM reset ... no change
    2. Tried an Install Disc restart with the 'C' key ... it starts alright but then says this is the wrong disc for the computer. I can't find my Leopard install disc. I will have a better look for it soon.
    3. Tried connecting it as a target drive ... I just get a blank white screen
    _*A further problem:*_
I was going to reset her computer off her Time-machine backup but when I checked it out it would not allow me into it saying I did not have permissions ... which means any reinstall of the system will not be able to access her time-machine.
Any ideas of what I should try? I will try to find my Leopard install disc and do the reboot off it. I think that is my best bet at the moment.

  • Iphone 3gs has no wifi in grey after 4.3.3 update

I have had a 3GS since launch and it is long out of warrenty and when i recently updated my iphone to 4.3.2 firmware i found my wifi in grey reading "no wifi" i  was unable to access the wifi menu so i rebooted my phone a bunch of times and the wifi worked again but after a couple of weeks it has stopped working again i have done the following:
    Soft reset,
deleted safari history, cache and cookies,
    Reset network settings,
    Restore and update to 4.3.3,
    rebooted a bunch of times.
and still no results i am positive it is not a hardware issue as the bluetooth works fine and as far as i am aware the bluetooth and wifi share the same chip i have never experianced any wifi bugs with ios 3 and ios 4 has killed my wifi completley. I think it is some sort of software issue but any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards,
    Nouman

i would like to share with you how i fixed my iphone 4s after ios 7.0.4 update and lose of wifi, bluetooth greyed out.
Ive resolved the grayed out wifi bluetooth issue, i just wanted to share thia with you and hope it works for you as well.
Firstly i was innocently upgrading a fully working Iphone 4s no problems ever, after the ios 7.0.4 update i lost all wifi and bluetooth which was grey out.
After having contacted apple they told me like everyone else hardwear issues, i never beleived this from the start as the iphone previously worked fine before the update. Also if you check settings - General - about phone - wifi has no address where as before it was fine.I almost believe in my case the ios 7.0.4 has deactivated the wifi hardware by not re-entering a address upon updating as a issue.
As the iphone is out of warrenty apple informed me if the item has a issue we could replace for £166 for out of warrenty, "what for downloading apple software thats prevented a perfect phone from working"! I informed apple this is a common issue and on the apple support communities site many people have this issue, the response was dont believe anything online.
Literally i searched the entire internet for solutions, from trying to downgrade software and use tinyumbrellas software to alter the host settings to enable itune to download without a popup message of  'this device isnt eligible for the requested build' basiscally a block download. To more obscure solutions such as placing the iphone in a freezer or using a hair dryer. Please check these online for further reference.
I would just like to share the fact if all else fails and you dont believe the obscure solutions work please have another rethinken, as they did in my case as id like to share my resolution with you. Please check online for further references if you prefer, but i to was doubtful about this idea and melting the phone etc.
Fix iphone greyed out wifi bluetooth problem - worked on a iphone 4s with recent ios 7.0.4 update worked fine before update on 7.0.3
1.Place a hairdryer 6 inches away, apply heat for 10 sec.
2.Then remove for a few seconds BE CAREFULL KEEP CHECKING.
3.Then repeat, till phone gets hot and upon the screen the iphone will say to hot to use.
4.Switch phone off and let cool down.
5.When you switch on it reactivates the wifi hardware with the software and you can use wifi and bluetooth again.
Im just a normal person thats had apple products for over 15 years due to being a designer, ive been messed about by apple and tried everything on the net and the only reason i post this is to offer a solution that may work for you as it did for me.
If any one has another opinion then that is there opinion, but this worked in my case and what i state is my experience and thoughts on this issues. All i intend is to try and help others as other online advice helpped me.

  • Problem to start iMac after 10.4.11 update please help

    Hi Everyone
My iMac suddenly unprovoked not working after I downloaded the latest OS X 10.4.11 update from apple.com.
After downloaded successfully, I double clicked the file to update, but nothing happened, the computer seemed not respond anything, so I logged out, but still not responding. I waited for almost 30 minutes I force switched off iMac by holding down the switch button.
Then I tried to switch it back on that normally iMac would run fine, but it stuck again remained as the starting screen, a white background with an Apple logo in the middle and a circle spinning displays loading, but wait forever and nothing happens.
How can I start my Mac as I am a new user of Macs? Is there another way?
    Thanks.

    Hi
Just in case you are in the same situation & haven't already wiped your files then read this:
I was pointed in this direction (see link below) when the same thing happened to me & I have managed to retreive all of my data using another mac that has OS X & a firewire cable.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1246278&tstart=0
Here is some more info as well here from me to try to help to explain things as at first I couldn't make head nor tail of what I was supposed to do:
Make sure the mac that works is switched on & that your mac that will not start up properly is switched off. Connect the 2 computers using a firewire cable & then switch the mac that will not start up properly on while holding the 't' key down.
After a while a symbol will bounce around on your mac & the mac that works ok that you are connected to should show your hard disk on it's desktop (a bit like when you plug a camera or a phone or an i-pod in). The you can retrieve what you need to save off your hard disk (by dragging it onto the computer that works) & back it up. This may take some time but at least you will have waht you need
Then AND ONLY ONCE YOUR DATA IS SAFE you can erase & re-install your system software.
To do this you should eject your hard drive from the computer you are using to rescue your data (i.e. like when you eject a cd/phone/i-pod etc.)
Then you can restart your mac (the one that has frozen) and then immediately put your mac OS X installation dvd (the one that came when you got your mac) press c while it starts and then say install. You will need to also go to options & click erase & install. This will format your computer & erase everything off it so like I said make sure your data is safe first on another computer or even better onto disk.
I hope this is as helpful as I found it when I was told the same information earlier...

  • STILL can't open Mail after 10.6.8 update

I have tried everything suggested on previous posts.  I went into CrashPlan, fetched my backup mail, dropped it in Applications.  Tried opening it, to no avail,  Then re-installed the update.  Still nothing.  Tried this several times.  Further, I've just received my regular notice the CrashPlan backed up today, which I think means they have now backed up the messed up mail and I can no longer access my original mail application??  HELP.

Make an appointment with the Genius' at an Apple Store. This is a new problem with the "automatic update". My mail was working great until I did the normal automatic updates. After the update my mail icon would just bounce once and the message about my version not working. I also did the dropping in my ap folder, didn't work.
Prior to my Genius appt. I had re-installed mail from the "applications" from original "Install OS X" dvd. Not the "application install dvd". It gave me the original version. I then tried to do an update but it said it was updated. Which was impossible because the computer is 1 1/2 yrs old and there were many updates from then til now. Maybe my 2012-004 worked because i had re-installed mail from my original dvd that came with my computer.
Going to the Genius is free, (but an appt. is necessary) and they ask each other if they do not know right off the bat, it worked great for me. Best of luck...

  • No Wifi or bluetooth after 3.1.3 update, gray

I have read the different suggestions to fix this problem, but none work. If I do a back up and restore on my computer to an earlier date, and restore my iPod to the original settings then hook it up to iTunes before the update will this help the problem? Just wondering. At this point I'll try anything, the wifi was a big plus for the iPod,right now whithout it,it's no better than my Sony Walman mp3 player, which by the way has never given me any problems. It seems everytime I have to do an update something happens. I have learned to fix the most common problem with an update, but this time I didn't have to do that, and I was suprised that everything went so well, until I found out that the wifi was missing. If someone know how to fix it,I would be very grateful. Apple should test these updates on their own iPods before they screw up ours, and I mean more than one iPod,not one,it worked, lets roll!!!

This was one of the first articles I read when searching for an answer to this problem. I started with a clean iPod several times but still had a grayed out Wi-Fi. I was hoping to not have to send it off for repair,or visit the Apple Store since it is well over 100 miles away. Everything else works fine with the exception of this. Thanks for the help, if you have any other suggestions on how to solve this problem,I will try anything. Thanks

  • IMac after 10.6.8 update no more Wake for network access!!

iMac 2009 -  after 10.6.8 no more wake for network access - is a sleep issue because i tested several approached to see what is the problem. If the computer enter in sleep mode then i cannot wake remotely. Anyone with the same problem? (vnc user, etc)

I can confirm this works also. Thanks!

OK. I fixed the problem, for me at least. My time capsule wasn't even showing a light on for the ethernet port, the card in my mac pro was clearly powered down which would explain why the magic packets go missing.
10.6.8 contained a modified version of /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext, more specifically /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/Intel82574L. kext.
I replaced IONetworkingFamily.kext with the version that was present before the 10.6.8 update and my WOL now works once more.
So I'm pretty sure right now that 10.6.8 broke my WOL and I'm also pretty sure I fixed it but I'm not sure what other issues I'm causing as a result.
I have no idea how I get a reaction from Apple given that I have no "support credit" but surely they should support a customer with regressed software. Anyone got any ideas?

  • Slow iMac after 10.8.3 update

I posted a few dfays ago an as yet have no responeses from that post so here goes again.
When I restart to Windows (7) the startup chime chimes almost immediately but then a blank canvas screen comes on and the computer just sits there seemingly doing nothing  for nearly a minute, then Windows starts and things look normal.  When I go back to Mac OS the chime chimes  again almost immediately but I get a black, blank screen for about 40 seconds before the Apple logo comes up and the wheel start spinning and the Mac starts up.  Everything seems to be normal once it os going with the exception that once and a while I have to restart the computer again in ML to get the Dock to magnify.  This all started after I updated to ML 10.8.3.  Windows is on a partition made by Bootcamp Assistant to the tune of 40 GB.  That leaves me with 250+ GB for  ML.  The iMac is an early 2009 320/4GB Ram and there are not  many third party apps installed except the ones I have to install for Windows and some sites that require Adobe and Java to run, which are both up to date according to there sites.  My question is, why does the computer do this suddenly after an upgrade to ML when it never did this before?  Also then I restarted the computer in Recovery and verified and repaired the OS and then restarted the Mail app showed I was offline and I had to restart again to rectify the problem.  Just seems like the upgrade did more harm than good!
I am getting very close to going back to SL, the last good OS Apple put out, where I had very few problems with any of this stuff.  I really like some of the new stuff Lion and ML had to offer but the problems are getting to the point where it is not worth the effort. Suggestions would be appreciated.
    C

Try booting into the Safe Mode.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Translucent Menu Bar still can't be disabled after 10.5.2 update

I was please that an option to turn off the translucent menu bar was included in the recent update. After updating my MacBook Pro I was able to uncheck the 'Translucent Menu Bar' option under 'Desktop & Screensaver'.
After updating my Mac Pro desktop to 10.5.2, this option is NOT available and my menu bar remains translucent. Is there really no way to turn off translucency on the Mac Pro?

Pleased to see I'm not alone. The option to disable the translucent menu bar isn't available on my G4 iBook either. Everything is working well after the latest updates. I like my translucent menu bar so no worries.
No hacks, no changes, just not available.

  • Can't shutdown iMac after 10.5.3 update

Updated to 10.5.3 yesterday. No problems there, problems started hours later when I tried to shutdown computer. No luck, black/grey spinning timer thing (not beach ball) just keeps spinning away. Only way to turn off computer is to hold power button down. I also can't start computer successfully unless I unplug my FW 800 My Book Studio Edition external hard drive.
    Computer will sleep/wake without problem.

I have the exact same issue on my MacBook after upgrading a few days ago. I get that little "loop", and my MacBook just won't shut down until I hold down the power button. It never happened with 10.5.2. It's the only problem I'm having with the upgrade. I'm sure it's only a short term thing, as Apple usually fixes such things rather quickly. Even so, I hope they fix it soon.

  • Wifi not working after 2.0.1 Update

I can connect to facebook and apps. But not the itunes store or safari. anyone else?

Sadly, it seems my iPhone 3G has also lost wifi. The option is grayed out on the phone. Oh, Apple.. please fix this ASAP.
3G seems to work as it did before, with somewhat spotty coverage from AT&T in San Francisco and on the Peninsula.

  • No Wifi Network Detection After 4.0.1 update-Loader Keeps Spinning on & off

All Mac addresses are there Bluetooth Wifi IESN etc, it shows WIFI is on but the circle loader keeps spinning trying to search for networks. No luck.
Ive tryed everything mentioned here, Restore, rollback to 3.1.3 OS reset etc.
The funny this is, the circle loader thing next to WIFI keeping spinning then disappearing. No networks are being detected.
Any advice would be greatly appriciated. Im leaning towards a hardware issue here,isO4 fried my wifi chip?
    Thanks,
    Joe-

    Joe,
    I have a 3G, 4.0.1.
I'm having the same problem with my wife's phone. It does not even detect the networks, just spins and spins and spins. I can set my phone (exactly the same set up as hers) right next to it and it sees all the networks with no problem. I have even restored hers with my settings, with no luck. I have searched everywhere and tried everything. I usually get stupid answers like reset your wifi, really, when it works on my two computers and my iphone? I've also seen the put it in you fridge for 10 minutes. I'm about to give up.
About the only real answer I found is that its a hardware problem. Unfortunately I don't live anywhere near an Apple store.
