Are you working in iMovie and realize that certain frames in the movie would be perfect as photographs? Here is how to extract them...
*To get a still frame from an Event*, right-click on the frame and select "Add Still Frame to Project". The still will be added to the end of the current project. Right click on the still frame in the project and select "Reveal in Finder". You will see a jpeg file that is highlighted. Drag this jpeg file in the finder to the iPhoto icon on your dock.
*If you want a still from a project*, rather than an event, the process is similar, except you right-click on the frame and select "Add Freeze Frame", and it adds the freeze frame at the end of the clip rather than at the end of the project. Right-click/reveal in Finder, drag JPEG to iPhoto icon in dock.
*If you are not using iPhoto*, and just want to save to your desktop, click Reveal in Finder as above, then COPY, then PASTE to desktop.
Hint: If you do not want to clutter up your iMovie Project with stills at the end that you would have to go back and delete, then create a separate iMovie Project just for your stills, and follow the instructions for capturing stills from an Event.
Note: If you do not have a right mouse button, then control-click will work instead of right-click.

First, click iMovie/About and see which version you have.
Versoon 9.0.2 would be iMovie 11.
Follow the instructions [in this post|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=13065602#13065602]
If you have Version 8.0.6, that is iMovie 09 and you should see the Reveal In Finder option.

One more thing---I'm working with PC: Windows 7 and only the PSE, not the premier version.

When I capture a still frame froma video in Llightroom 4.3, where does the captured frame end up? I cannot find it. Stan

It will be right next to the movie in your library and the jpg file will end up on your hard disk right next to the movie file. You can see the actual file by right (or control) clicking on the image in the library view and selecting "show in Finder/Explorer"

  • Capturing Still Frames from a QuickTime Movie

    1. Can I capture still frames from a QT Movie file using QuickTime 7?
    2. If not can I do it with QuickTime Pro?
      Windows XP

QuickTime Pro can "Export" a still frame to various image formats.
Just position the playhead on the frame you wish to export. Use the right-left arrow keys to "step" through frames.
You can get a larger sized export by enlarging the Player window.

  • Can you send/export a still frame from an FCP sequence?

Can you send/export a still frame from FCP as a picture to the desktop? Doesn't matter if it is a .jpeg, .tiff, . bitmap
    G5 Mac OS X (10.4.8) Dual 1.8

serach the forum for any of the hundreds of posts detailing this process -
my personal favorite is shift-N, apple-9, type name, drag to bin, batch export.
The best thing about the batch export queue is you can set up a batch with the file format and destination folder and then keep adding new clips/stills to export.
    Hope this helps -

  • Print Out Still Frames From HD Video

I am importing HD video into iMovie 08. I have made a few still frames from the video for printing. I could not export them to iPhoto or Photoshop Elements 2.
How can I make HD video prints? Do I need new software?

I have made a few still frames from the video for printing. I could not export them to iPhoto or Photoshop Elements 2.
Select the "still frame" sequence and use the "Reveal in Finder" option to take you to the saved "still image" in the named_Project package. If you then double-click the image, it will open in Preview. Using Preview, you can print the image or save it to any of the available image formats in any "visible" location for later access by whatever graphic application you wish to use.

  • Converting still frames from iMovie

Hello, I took some still frames from iMovie (right click on playhead and say something like capture still whatev). I guess they are in .dv format which is fine for iMovie and iDVD, and maybe Final Cut Pro, but what if I want to take that still .dv and put it into photoshop to make a CD label? Photoshop doesn't do .dv, is there some converter I can get to convert from the .dv to the JPEG? or GIF? Thanks for the help.
I'm loving all the free software I can get for my Mac, so hopefully there's a free one out there.

Once you have created it, click on it to highlight and go to File > Save Frame As > and then save it as a .jpeg on the desktop (or wherever). Should be good to go then. I believe the default format is .jpeg.
    Did that help?

from Finder, copy .jpg to any other location of harddrive
drag that copy into your document..

  • How do i create a still frame from a clip in iMovie 11? thanks

Good morning. How do I create a still frame from a clip in iMovie 11.  Thanks

First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
    Open MPEG Streamclip.
In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder.
Drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
You can then drag this photo into iPhoto.
Here is a video I made that steps through this...

  • How to export still frame from Quicktime movie?

    Hello folks
I often need to use a still frame from a quicktime movie as an image file to work with in PhotoShop for windows.
If I export a frame via the export command and choose "Movie to picture" I end up with a .pct file, that Photoshop will not open.
I can open the .pct file with the Quicktime PictureViewer and then export it from that app as i.e. a JPEG-file, but I would like to avoid that extra step and just export a usable file straight from QT.
Anybody know how that can be done?
    Best regards
    Kris

Same problem here - no matter whether I choose Photo - JPEG or PNG format as the "compressor", QT 7 Pro wants to save with a .pct extension, and changing it to .jpg or .png extension fails to open.
The two workarounds I've found are:
    1. Save it in Photo - JPEG or PNG format with a .pct extension, open with Photoshop CS4 or below, save to desired format.
One may be able to accomplish the same using Preview instead of Photoshop, but on my Snow Leopard machine I get the error "The PICT file format is not supported in 64-bit mode. Try selecting "Open in 32 Bit Mode" in the Finder's info window for Preview." and I don't feel like bothering to do this.
    2. Use Grab to take a screenshot, copy into Preview, crop as necessary and save to desired format.
Which is easier depends on whether you feel like having to do precision cropping or not. Totally agree with above commenters - whither PICT, Apple?

  • I need to pull still frame from video.

How do you pull a still frame from imovie?  I saw a recent discussion about downloading mpeg streamclip.  But, that won't open.

Easiest way is to just take a picture of the frame you want. First, full screen the video. Then, pause it where you want the still. Take a screenshot by pressing command, shoft and 3 at the same time. It should save the phto directly to your desktop. Make sure you take the picture when it is on fullscreen. Otherwise, the photo will be bad quality.

  • Exporting Jpeg Frame from Timeline.

    Hi,
I would like to know how to export a frame from my timeline with the same resolution. Currently I'm working on a project in Apple ProRes 422 and the director asked me if it is possible to take some screenshots. I've tried to find some solutions however I didn't find how... Is there any options available within FCP that could "export" that frame and be editable with Aperture or Photoshop ?
    Thanks
    Guim

    This is an easy one.
Park the video on the frame you want to export (make sure there are no in points marked, or it'll export THAT frame.)
File>export> Using Quicktime Conversion>Select Still image>Don't use jpeg- it's lossy>Tell it where to go> name it>hit the button. TIFF's are good, so are PSDs if someone wants to take it to photoshop.
