Still hate versions and autosave

I've given it a week and I still can't get used to the save version/duplicate set up. I understand what they are meant to do, but it is just an awkward workflow for what I do. I hate duplicating an existing file just to edit it and save it as a new one. I also dislike not being able to save a version as a word doc without duplicating it to do so. I don't work with large documents, mainly notes for lectures and keynote presentations. The version I save is the version I edit. If I were writing a book or disseration I would love to have access to versions/autosave, but as it is the old save/save as set up served my purposes well. Also, keynote now has the nasty habit of saving my work while I'm typing. I don't notice this in Pages, but it is disruptive in Keynote.

I'm beginning to think that because versions and autosave were available to beta testers only in programs from Apple, like Preview, that they didn't get a whole lot of testing. I've found autosave to be transparent in Pages and Numbers but Keynote is another story, just as you've found. I was editing a 90+ slide presentation for my Intro to CS class and autosave was intrusive. The following day I was working in Photoshop and I starting thinking about autosave there. Not pretty as it is.
As for the loss of Save As... if you use a macro program like QuicKeys or Keyboard Maestro you can easily recreate it. I tested it with Keyboard Maestro and it worked just fine.

I want to disable versions and autosave

This is simply idiotic. Is there ANY way to disable this?
I dont like at all the feature, but maybe i could live with it if i were not loosing files. I'm glad i noticed it only after a day of work. they give an option to disable this or i im giving my mac to my wife.
Also, i dont know who the **** designed this feature, but not everyone working on a file wants to save it, i need to touch a lot of files in a day, sometimes just to get to something i can copy and paste in my final document, if i have to bother about wich "version" was the good one and wich one is not... its like i now have twice the work.
This is not making my experience simpler, its complicating my work to the max.
On top of that, versions and autosave does not work as it is supposed over network (my work is on a RAID NAS, not on my ssd), but it tries to save the file every fu**ing time. I do a lot of copy/cut/paste from files i just dont want to save, and today i had to look for 4 files into my backup just to recover them. That means Lion make me loose information. Something a reliable OS should not be doing nowadays.

I have my own list of 30 reasons why Lion s***s. Until they're all fixed I'm staying with Snow Leopard, although I fear Apple has gone down the toilet with Lion and no-one is willing to put a hand down there and fish it out.
Autosave is one of them, and Versions is another.
Another, uh, feature you haven't found yet is that all your files will be automatically locked after a certain number of days. Don't ask me why. But it's a royal PITA. The Apple fanboys think it's absolutely fantastic.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

I can not delete my history and adding new bookmarks. Upgrading to later Firefox versions and/or re-installing didn't help. The address bar still shows the web addresses of old and whenever I make new bookmarks, it's always gone as if it was never made.

Also, I have noticed that every once in awhile you can not close tabs you've opened, either by pushing on the X button and/or clicking on the mouse to close it. Although closing the window and opening it again (without closing the Firefox application) seemed to rectify the problem in the short term, it's becoming quite annoying.

First, download the add-on SQManager. This should be included with FireFox, it is really good.
Look for the file '''moz_hosts''' in the folder '''places.sqlite'''.
Don't delete the file, just delete the information in the file. My file has over 3600 websites, which go back years!! I did not know they were there, but I was frustrated about not being able to get rid of them. They popped up every time I used the address bar. Clearing my history would not get rid of them.
This is where they are stored!! I found that by deleting the pesky web site from '''moz_hosts''', it does not appear in my address bar anymore!!!
I think that if I just delete all the websites in moz_hosts....

As long as you don't delete the file, just empty it, FireFox won't know the difference. It will just keep adding websites to it until you empty it again.
Why running "clear recent history" doesn't do this, I don't know. You are doing manually what "clear recent history" is not doing.

I am not sure what you want here - I opened Firefox and it had an Urgent symbol and message that my version of Firefox was not protected and that I should download new version - I downloaded the new version and then restarted my computer and I am still getting the same message every time I open Firefox

The update doesn't seem to have been successful. Your More system details list list shows a Firefox 3.5.19 version.
Download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

You can uninstall (remove) the Java Console extensions and disable the Java Quick Starter extension, you do not need them to run Java applets.

i had the same problem but i just got a new video converter and made it convert videos to ipod/iphone format and then put them into itunes. i would suggest GOM encoder as the encoder can convert them and then once they're finished converting, put them automatically into your itunes for you. from there you can just sync them to your ipod.

Thanks for this mha007 - I can now open FF with a new profile. Can I copy my settings from the old profile or will this bring over the same problem, maybe a corrupt file. If it would bring the same problem, is there any way I can check which file is corrupt, apart from taking them over one by one?

With Windows Explorer, navigate to your C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder.
Copy the SQLite3.dll that you should find there, navigate to the nearby Mobile Device Support folder, and Paste it in there also.
Restart the programme all should be well
In case that your OS is (64 bit)
1. Open windows explorer, go to location C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
2. Copy file "SQLite3.dll"
3. Now paste it in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
4. Restart the programme, it should not display that message, it should be clear.
