Still image issues (I've already read the other similar post- didn't apply)

Still having issues with still images in my timeline. Viewer they're fine, Canvas they're repulsive.
Seq. settings are NTSC, 29.97, 48k. I have tried several different extensions for the stills and have even tried importing them at different sizes. I know I'm not the first person to incorporate stills in my timeline - how do I solve this? (I followed the advice on a similar thread from a few days ago).
Also, I exported a small clip and viewed it on a different computer as a QT file and it was just as bad.
Please help. I'll make you a mix cd or a burrito if you can help me out. Thanks.

#1 Transitions "Insufficient Content"
Shane's Stock Answer #1: Trying to add a Transition and get the error "Insufficient Content"
A full 1 second cross fade reaches 15 frames into each clip. So, if you want to change a cut to a cross fade, there has to be at least 15 additional frames of each clip. Say you're trying to cross fade from one clip into the very first frame of a second clip. FCP cannot 'create' 15 more frames of the second clip to do a cross fade. If they're not there, you're out of luck.
What you are running into is that you are marking an out point at the far edges of a clip then adding a cross dissolve, say 30 frames (one second) in duration. Since the dissolve is centered on the cut, it will start 15 frames before the cut, and try to go 15 frames AFTER the cut...which it can't do. What you need to do is plan how long your dissolve will be and back-time your cut so that it works.
You need to make sure that your clips have enough media (called 'handles') at the beginning of the incoming clip and at the end of the outgoing clip for the transition. For example, if you have a 1 second (30 frame) dissolve, your in and out point need to be at least 15 frames from the edge of the clip.

If you are working with DV, this is simple. First connect your computer to a camera or deck via firewire, Then connect the camera/deck to your TV/Monitor via RCA or S-Video.
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Go to the View Menu, choose > External video > all frames
VIEW>Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
VIEW>Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section.
If you are working with HDV footage, FCP 6 allows you to view this via firewire, but ONLY as downconverted DV. It won't look the best, but you can see it. To do this,
If you need to view any format other than DV at full resolution, then you need to look into capture cards. Several standard definition and high definition models are available from www.aja.com and www.decklink.com. With these options you'll need a proper monitor to view full broadcast colors, but all models allow for realtime standard definition downconvert, allowing you to view HD on an SD monitor.
The Matrox MXO is another option that is output only, but allows you to view your footage on an Apple Cinema Display at full broadcast quality.

    If you import your still images using iPhoto, then the time you set for each still, using FCPX Perferences works.
    You can set the durantion from 1 frame to as long as you want them view.
    If you do not use iPhoto to import your stills, the default is 10 sec's.
    FYI: This issue was brought up within a month after FCPX was released. They found out by using iPhoto, you had better control of the amount of time your still was viewed.

    Double-click on the still image in the project timeline to open the Inspector. In the Inspector, adjust the duration by typing in a new duration to match the length of your music. I think the limit for a still image is 10 minutes. If you need more than this, simply drag the image into the timeline again then adjust its duration. The two images will play seamlessly (no gap will be visible).

    You can achieve more precision when entering durations by changing a preference in the menu item iMovie Preferences. Check (tick) the preference for Show Time As HH:MM:SS:frames. This will enable you to enter the duration of stills down to the frame level, rather than full seconds (NTSC is 30 frames per second; PAL is 25 fps). When entering times, type a colon between each time segment, such as 2:50:15, which represents 2 minutes 50 seconds and 15 frames. For 5 seconds 20 frames you would enter 5:20 and so forth.
    Note that the music will only run to the length of the video in the timeline (in your case, the still images). So, after increasing the stills duration you will need to drag the end of the music track as far as required. The stills can be dragged inwards to reduce the duration if necessary.

    Yes it sounds like your application could be corrupt.
    First I would make sure you don't have a program like backup software or virus protection trying to read the files when you try to start the application. If not,
    Do you have any backups or data exports? If so, I would try to restore them for the application
    If you do what EsbHelper suggests, you will have to recreate the database. I think he is missing a few steps.
    If you are going to try to recreate the application, you need to copy your outline rules files calc scripts and report scritps (.otl, CSC, REP and rul files) to s saved directory.
    If you delete the directory using the file system, you orphan things in the security file. It's better to try to do it from EAS.
    Once it has been deleted, and recreated from EAS, then copy back in the objects. You will have everything but data and security. those will have to be recreated.
    As aI said first, the best way to do this is from some sort of backup. othersiwe it can get a bit messy

    It sounds like you’re concerned because you don’t see your rentals in iTunes, but they appear to have downloaded. Take a look at the article below and check the Rentals tab in iTunes on your MacBook.

  • Still images interspersed in video all with the original audio

    I have what I think should be a very simple task. I have a 1 hour video of a school show. I want the soundtrack to remain intact. I simply want to take still images and replace the video images for certain chunks of the school show. The result should be a smooth original audio with the original video interrupted for 4-5 second periods with other images. For a bonus, it would be nice if the stills cross faded to the original video (without affecting the audio).
    I have been trying to get the precision editor to let me do this and cannot get it to happen cleanly and reliably. I keep getting the audio duplicated or dropped audio. And if I try to add cross fades it is even worse. The help video on the precision editor does not make it clear to me how to do this.
    In some PC programs, I know you can split the video independently of the audio and then delete the video clip and replace it with a still image. It does not look like iMovie is that intuitive.
    If there is another way to do this, I would love to know about it.

    In iMovie Preferences, make sure you have turned on Advanced Tools.
    Drag the photo to the video frame where you want it and drop it. When a pop-up menu comes up, choose Cutaway.

    I have a Creative Zen 8 GB for quite some time now and I never had any problems until now. They are connection problems, but I decided to make a thread about it (after I read the FAQ and searched through the forum) as I don't know exactly what to also. Also, my excuses for any grammatical errors as English is not my first language (I'm Dutch).
    As I said, I have a "Creative Zen 8 GB", version .2.0e and the total 'space' is 7672 MB, from which only 388 MB is unused.
    Well, what is the exact problem When I connect my Zen to my PC (via USB port offcourse. Also, there isn't a difference between the ports in the front and back of my PC (something that was suggested in an "Help Thread" )) the ZEN Media Explorer program can find my ZEN but can't find any information on it. This means, when I click "search media" he can't find any and when I want to "change / create a playlist" I get the message Zen Media Explorer can't find my Zen.
    However, I've always used Windows Media Explorer (latest version) to copy music on my Zen but also this option gives some problems. While I can select and copy music onto the Zen (or use the 'auto synchronizing' option) but I can't view the music that's on my Zen (Windows Media Explorer simply states that there "is no music on the device" ) or delete any music from it. Also, it doesn't seem to synchronize movies or images, as they don't show up on my ZEN, but do show up at the "system information" on my ZEN. This reads:
    Track Count: 702 (seems correct)
    Photo Count:53
    Video Count 35
    The last ones are incorrect (as I probably can't even put 53 videos on my ZEN).
    So, to say it in short; I can only remove music on my ZEN (not via any other program) and I can't view it anywhere except on my ZEN. The problem is that I can't really manage the things on my ZEN but also I find it very strange that it notes that there are videos / photo's on my ZEN while there aren't (as I removed the ones that already stood on my ZEN when I recieved it).
    I really hope that someone can help me with this problems as for the rest the ZEN is a very good player and I would like to keep it that way..

    Well, I know about this option but I saw it like 'a last hope'. So, I first tried to install the Creative Zen Software on another PC (with Windows XP, Service Pack 2) but that didn't worked out either.
    However, I'll perform the Recovery today and see if it works :-)

    Selected the radio button for Make Reader the default PDF viewer
    Run Installation: selected radio button Silently(No Interface)
    Security
    Enhanced Security Settings - Clicked drop down and set value to Disable

    Checked Disable product updates
    Checkd In Adobe Reader, disable Help > Purchase Adobe Acrobat
    Checked Disable Product Improvement Program
    Checked Disable Viewing of PDF with Ads for Adobe PDF
    Checked Disable all Adobe online services based workflows and entry points.
    I have tried to deploy the MSI with MST via GPO and Command Line with no luck.  Every time i deploy via below methods, the same result occurs, all of the options are set correctly except the "Make Reader the default PDF viewer".  I know how to manually set this option via Windows or Adobe interfaces but i am looking to roll this out to the masses and would not want a bunch of service desk calls because a user clicks on an Adobe PDF file and it is not opening in Adobe Reader.

    Deployment Options - Click Uninstall this application when it falls out of the scope of management.

    Instead of saving as a PDF thru Work do a Print ➙ PDF ➙ Save as PDF and it will be saved the first time with the Preview icon.

  • Still images turn to black backgrounds in the exported movie

    I am still using Premiere 2.0. I produced a ca. 25 min project with still images at the beginning and at the end and short videoclips in between. Still images are only ca. 40-50 kB large. When working on it I occasionally got a few problems (e.g. an audio transition across two clips was making Premiere hanging up) but I could easily get around them and successfully preview the project and export it to a folder and directly to a DVD. However, when viewing the movie on TV I found out that almost all (BUT NOT ALL!) the still images had turned into black backgrounds. I have exported the movie as MPEG, more still images were fine but not all of them. I have tried to drastically reduce the number of still images (max 5) but nome of them were fine. I do not have any error message and this problem is driving me crazy! Does anyone have a brilliant idea?
    Last year I bought the new version of Premiere (3.0 I believe, surely not 7.0) but I stopped using it after one week because there was no way to successfully export the project I was working on. I made several videos, always got problems but so far I always found a solution on Premiere forum. Hope this time too!

    Try sizing your photos to 1000x750 pixels in size.
    Also, right-click on each photo on the timeline and select Field Options and check the Flicker Removal box.
    These will give you the best quality.
    I am also concerned, however, that you are having technical problems and, especially, that you can not use a newer version of the program.
    I'd recommend you install the latest version of Quicktime and the newest RealTek drivers, as we recommend in our FAQ.

    For those that point at the sticky topic, let me just say that I've already read it, implemented the suggestions there, and it has provided no result.
    My setup is an Audigy 2 ZS card mated with Altec Lansing VS35 5. speakers. I've connected the cables correctly, enabled CMSS, updated my drivers to the latest version, but during Speaker Calibration, playing games, watching DVD movies, there is no output from the center speaker. If I watch encoded movies (avi files), I can hear sound from the center speaker. So what seems to be the problem? Anyone got any suggestions?Message Edited by mofo on 03-9-2005 08:0 AM

    I have the same problem, games and music etc all speakers work, but during the tests/calibration I get no sound from rear speakers, center or the sub...... help please! (from the firewire port out the plugs all go as follows: yellow, black, green)

    I am on a different computer than the one I downloaded certain itunes on. On this computer I am on now, those itunes I downloaded to the other computer do not show up on this one except under PURCHASE HISTORY. They are not in my "library" or "purchased." How can I play those on this computer. I am not maxed out on the number of machines I can play on (or I should not be because I've only downloaded itunes from three computers total and this is one of them). I know on the itunes link regarding this it says simply go into your library or purchased and click play then enter your info. BUT I CANNOT CLICK PLAY WHEN THESE SONGS CAN ONLY BE FOUND ON "PURCHASE HISTORY." This is aggravating. Please help.

    The iTS operates on a "one download per purchase" basis .
    You can authorize your songs to be played on up to five different computers but it is up to you to transfer the files from the computer they were downloaded to.
