Still image length

i am making a stop motion thing and i cant seem to change my image length lower than 1 second. i want it to be shorter than 1 second. when i select all the images and then go to duration and try to change it to lower than 1 second it wont let me. example 00:00:01:00 i try and change it to 00:00:00:45 it just thinks i want 1.15 seconds. i want .45 seconds.

Afromatics,
The last number are frames, since each second is devided in frames (hence frames per second). So when using NTSC :45 would results in 1:15 since there are only 29,97 frames per second.

How do I make a still image (photo) fit the length of the music? I record music and want to convert the tracks to a video file with a still image of my business logo in the background. On windows movie maker you could just select "fit to music" but this program isnt as easy to figure out! Any help?

Double-click on the still image in the project timeline to open the Inspector. In the Inspector, adjust the duration by typing in a new duration to match the length of your music. I think the limit for a still image is 10 minutes. If you need more than this, simply drag the image into the timeline again then adjust its duration. The two images will play seamlessly (no gap will be visible).
    See this iMovie Help topic:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3a883915
You can achieve more precision when entering durations by changing a preference in the menu item iMovie Preferences. Check (tick) the preference for Show Time As HH:MM:SS:frames. This will enable you to enter the duration of stills down to the frame level, rather than full seconds (NTSC is 30 frames per second; PAL is 25 fps). When entering times, type a colon between each time segment, such as 2:50:15, which represents 2 minutes 50 seconds and 15 frames. For 5 seconds 20 frames you would enter 5:20 and so forth.
Note that the music will only run to the length of the video in the timeline (in your case, the still images). So, after increasing the stills duration you will need to drag the end of the music track as far as required. The stills can be dragged inwards to reduce the duration if necessary.

  • Export length of still image not adjustable?

I'm trying to export a bunch of still images as .psd files that I will archive and use repeaedly in future projects. The files will always be 2.5 seconds when used in the future.
The problem is that the images don't want to export as 2.5 seconds.
I adjust the length to 2.5 seconds and Export As QT Conversion > Still Image > PSD. However, when I import the file is always 10 seconds.
Alternatively, I load the clip into the viewer. Adjust the time to 2.5 seconds and Export As QT Conversion > Still Image > PSD. But still the file is 10 seconds upon import.
    Any ideas?
Is there a default setting somewhere I'm not seeing?
    Cheers,
    Curtis

Perhaps you're overlooking the setting in your User Preferences for Still Image Duration?

  • Changing the length of still images in the Timeline

Since a still image is just one frame, the manual says that I should change the import value to 00:00:00:01.  Is there a way to control (change) the lengh of the still once it is in the Timeline?  Thanks.

To change the duration on the timeline, control-click on the clip in the timeline and from the drop down menu choose "Duration". You can set the duration you want in the window that opens.
I am not sure what manual you are reading, but the import duration is entirely up to you. If you think you are going to be using the stills for approx. 20 seconds, set the import duration to that (go to the menu Final Cut Studio > User Preferences and on the Editing Pane set the Still Freeze Duration to the time you want.
The effect of this change will take place on the next files you import, and will not change existing imports.

  • Adjusting still image duration length in iMovie 5.0.2

Hi is it possible to adjust still image duration in 5.0.2 by dragging from the end of the image 'clip'? I am sure I could do in iMovie4 and I can do it in iMovie HD 6 but a version of 5 that is on a project laptop just refuses to do it. Is this a version issue?
    Thanks

YES! Thank you. That was it! I think I had stumbled on that previously but I couldn't remember it. Anyway thankyou. I'll be able to pass that on to all of the Digital Storytelling project participants.

  • How to make a podcast with one still image with iMovie 09

I'm using trying to transfer my podcasts to Vimeo. I've been using iWeb to create a person web site with video and podcasts. I have embedded Vimeo with "html snippet widge." I want to do the same thing with audio, however Vimeo only accept "video" files.
In my attempt to work around Vimeo's video issues, I had the idea to use iMovie 09 to create a "video file" using a single still image with my audio podcast play in the background. The single image would be consistent for the entire length of the audio. It seems simple...one still image file and one audio file.
All of my audio files are less than 45 minutes in length. The problem is that when I insert an image in iMovie I can't get it to last for more than 10:00 minutes of my podcast. I've had to drag the same image over several times, extend each image's length to 10:00 minutes until I have enough images to last the full length of the audio file.
I'm sure there's a simple way to do this with one image, used one time, and have the audio added.
Anyone understand my situation and have a good idea?

The most efficient method would be for you to do this in iMovie 6. You can download a version if you don't already have it on your computer. http://supportdownload.apple.com/download.info.apple.com/AppleSupport_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/Mac_OSX/downloads/061-3532.20070807.nq3ER/iMovieHD6.dmg
Put all your clips into a new iMovie project, in the order you wish them to play. Use the chapters tab and add chapter markers for each clip (except the first one; iDVD will add that one for you). Close iMovie.
Open an new iDVD project. Use the Media tab, then Movies, to locate your new iMovie. Drag and drop it onto the main iDVD window, taking care not to drop it into a drop zone. You should then see the title of your movie and the two options: Play Movie (which will play all the clips sequentiallly) and Scene Selection (which will take you to submenu(s) where you can select which clip to view).

This may sound stupid, but I have a downloaded flv file, and I want to use about
8 seconds  to make still images so I can trace into Illustrator and then export it into Flash. (both are older versions).
    Is this possible?
It is for an animinated logo.
    Thanx.

Change the a to an r so it reads .m4r Drag the file to the desktop, double click and it ends up in ringtones folder.

  • Change duration of multiple still images in one operation

    Hello Folks.
I am trying to change the duration of each image in a sequence of still images.
    Program: Adobe Premiere Elements 7
    Mode: Standard Definition 4/3 ratio
File types in use: MOD, AVI, PNG
Problem: The product manual states: "To apply the new default length to all still images in your project, delete them from Project view and reimport them into your project."
Question: Is there a way to select a group of still images and then apply a new duration value to all of them in one operation?  An Adobe salesperson told me that this is possble before I purchased the program, but I cannot figure out how this is done. I switched to Adobe from another product in order to get this feature. Now that I need it, I cannot figure a way to get it to work. Time Stretch is not available when I select multiple images.
    Thank you,
    Brian

    Brian,
Unfortunately not. PrPro CS4.2 has just added a way to change the Duration of previously Imported stills, but so far PrE does not allow for this, unless it is new to PrE 8, but I have not read of this.
As noted, the method is to set the Edit>Preferences>General>Default Stills, and choose the Duration in Frames. Then Import the stills. If they are in the Project, that setting has already been applied, so one must delete them from the Project Panel and re-Import them with the new Duration.
Now, one can obviously change the Duration on a one-by-one basis in the Timeline, but that can be tedious, if there are many stills. If I were doing this, I would make sure to have the Info Panel open and nearby, Window>Info.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - if PrE 8 HAS added the post-Import Duration change, I hope someone steps up with that info.

  • How can i set each still image to show for 1 frame?

im trying to create a 60fps timelapse but i just can't get each image to show for less than 2 frames, i've gone to edit>preferences>import and set the still footage length to 0:00:00:01. and i've set the sequence footage to 60fps(although i'm not positive what this does)
i then bring my photos down to create new composition set it to 0:00:00:01 still duration and then each photo shows for 2 frames, any ideas?
    thanks a lot!

If you import a single frame as an image sequence it will be 2 frames long.
If you import an image sequence as an image sequence you won't be able to see the individual frames in the timeline as being 2 frames long. However, if your composition is set to 60 fps and the image sequence is interpreted as 30 fps, when you step through the footage there will be pairs of identical frames. Change the interpretation to 60 fps and the image sequence will be half as long but each frame will be unique.

  • Set duration of imported still images down to 1 frame

Is there a way to import images into FCPX (10.1.1) and set it so the images will be only 1 frame when put on the timeline?  Or to change their duration in the Event viewer after they are imported?  I found the "duration" setting in the editing preferences, but that's in seconds and doesn't do what I want.  For what I'm doing now I want them at 1 frame, but really I'm looking for total control of the length of bulk still images without having to cut each individual one down on the timeline.

Put them in the timeline. Select them all. Press Control-D. Enter 1 and press return.

  • Grainy Still Images and Titles

I've just completed about a 10 minute film utilizing still images and video clips. It was made with the Adobe Premiere Elements 3 that came with my Sanyo Xacti camera, running on Windows XP. The video looks great all the way up until the end. I have two still images that I use that I have overlayed titles on them. The first one is a rolling title from bottom to top (like movie credits) and the second one is a still image where the text just appears and then disappears. The problem is that the pictures are extremely grainy and pixilated. Other still images that I use in the movie do not look that way, and they were taken with the same settings as the pixilated ones. When I pause the movie the picture looks normal, but when I hit PLAY it goes back to being grainy. I can only assume that the word overlays have something to do with it.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there any way to make the background pictures sharper and crisper with the text overlaying it?
    Thank you.

Guys, thank you so much for the help so far. I really appreciate it.
Steve - The line above the stills is green. I have rendered the film and it looks fine in the view window except for the pictures in question.
Hunt - I exported the movie to a Windows media player file and played it on that. The results for those two pictures was the same.
I imported the images through the PE "Get Media From" tab. They were on a thumbdrive that I had imported the to from my camera.
They are both JPEG images. The first is 2816 pixels in width and 2112 pixels in height. With a vertical and horizontal resolution of 72 dpi and a bit depth of 24. The focal length was 6mm.
The second is 2112 pixels in width and 2816 in height. The rest of the info is the same.
The pictures look fine when it is paused, it is only when it is playing that they are grainy and unfocused.
Thanks for the help. I am continuing to work through the Help topics in search of an answer.
I'm making this as a gift for my girlfriend back in the states while I am deployed here in Iraq and I am trying to make it perfect. Thanks again for all of your help.

  • Duration of still images when importing

    Hello,
just a quick one that has puzzled (and bothered) me for some time now. I guess it's my doing something wrong in the first place, but then again it's Monday, so I can do with some bad news to ease into the week.....
As far as I know, it's possible to tell FCP how long you want stills to be when you import them. Go to the user preferences, set still duration under the edit tab to, say, 5 secs and FCP should import stills at a length of 5 ecs. Right?
Well, whenever I try that, my stills are only 4.05 secs, and setting the still duration to 10.00 secs in the preferences gives me stills in FCP that are 8.08 secs long. Is there something I'm missing?
I've tried several formats, JPGE, PDFs, TIFs, PSDs, PICTs, TARGAs, PNGs....all show the same behaviour.
Of course I could fix the duration in the browser or in the Timeline, but it would be much easier if I could import stills at the proper duration in the first place.
    Any ideas?
Thanks a bunch, and hope you all have a good week ahead of you,
    Colin

I just did some testing on this, and it seems like the Still/Freeze Duration, Preview Pre and Post-Roll changes depending on what audio/video settings you have chosen. Try selecting DV NTSC in Easy Setup. Then check your User Preferences -> Editing.
    DV NTSC:
    Still/Freeze Duration: 00:00:10:00
    Preview Pre-Roll: 00:00:05:00
    Preview Post-Roll: 00:00:02:00
Try switching to DV PAL in Easy Setup, and check your User Preferences -> Editing again.
    DV PAL:
    Still/Freeze Duration: 00:00:12:00
    Preview Pre-Roll: 00:00:06:00
    Preview Post-Roll: 00:00:02:10
When importing still images using the DV PAL Easy Setup, the stills get a duration of 10 seconds, even though the User Preferences -> Editing are set to 00:00:12:00.
Can somebody please explain why it is like this? I hope there is a logical explanation

  • Timing of Still Images

I am going to try my hand at a music video on Monday and I need a bit of help with the post. The whole thing will be comprised of still frames and I don't know how to time things individually. I know how to import a series of still images as a unit and drop that on the timeline. I also know how to import a single image. The thing I don't understand is how I can import a series of images and spread them evenly across the timeline as a base then adjust the timing of each image seperatly. I am working on a mac in CS5.

I would a use a combination of the following:
    First:
    Animation>Keyframe Assistant>Sequence Layers...
Adjust end length of individual stills with the folllowing keyboard shortcut:
    Option/Alt + ]
And adjust in point of subsequent stills using the following script:
Go to end of previously edited clip by selecting the clip and hitting O, then hit Page Down to go one frame further

  • Imovie still images only stretched to 60seconds

    To all
quite new to imovie and using 08, but when i put music to a still image, the still image can only be stretched to 60 seconds.
it doesn't seem like its a problem to copy the image and make a second image for a second 60 second length, creating 2 still images with music, to 120 seconds length.
is that the correct way to do things?

There is a limit of 99 seconds in iMovie 08, but you can put multiple identical images back to back.
If you upgrade to iMovie 09 or iMovie 11, this limitation is no longer there.

  • CS4 doesn't allow Export Frame as a Still Image??

In CS3, I could create a still image of a frame (tiff file) by placing the CTI on the frame in the Source Monitor and then choose File>Export>Frame. This would create the file and place it in the Project I could adjust the default of the length of the still image through Preferences>General>Still Image Duration.
The File>Export>Frame option is no longer in CS4.......???
Can anyone tell me the quickest way to create or export a still image from the Source Monitor in CS4??
