Still images importanted are much smaller Why?

Because of the snow storms that have hit the Mid-Atlantic region, I wanted to save some photo images off the Internet and made a 'movie' of them.  I saved a couple dozen to a folder on my hard drive, then imported them into Premiere CS3 just as I do with video clips.  However, after dragging and dropping them into the Video One track, when I played them I discovered that many of the clips were not full screen in the monitor... they were much smaller with black areas surrounding them.  Is this an image size issue and if so, how can I make adjustments?  I've attached an example of what I see in my monitor... I appreciate the help.

Yeah, I'd probably have black surround the actual image with a 2" image in a 12" frame. I checked the file size (in KB, using Properties) and found that the images which were too small (and surrounded by a black box) were in the area of less than 60 KB while the ones which were above, say, 120KB seemed too big... Cuz they appeared to be zoomed in on. One image which seemed just right had a size of 90.6KB.
I'll need to go back in to each file and see in the properties report will state the pixel size... Then I'll get back to you.

How do I import images from my hard drive without losing resolution? My original files after import are significantly smaller. What should I do?

Hi Keith, and all others chiming in, I do have the correct option checked in advanced settings telling iPhoto to copy the images into the library. What is a refernced library? Perhaps this is where I am getting confused. I exported my entire photo library from an old iMac5 to my external hard drive, from there I attempted to import the entire library to my new iMac. Am I overlooking an obvious and easy way to import from the hard drive to the new iMac--I dragged the entire photo pholder from the hard drive to the open window of iPhoto on the new computer. Now, I only get preview file sizes in iPhoto, unless I have my external drive open. Perhaps I need to import the original images from the hard drive in a different way...?! (This is making me feel pretty stupid.)

  • Why are still images importing larger than their size?

Per instructions in a thread I had here last week, I created all of my DVD still images at 720 x 534 pixels for Premiere Pro CS5.5. But when they are brought into a DVCPRO50 NTSC Standard sequence, they are being heavily clipped. The original in one example is this:
But when that same images is brought into PP, it is sized up like this:
It's still proportionally correct, but a lot of the top and bottom of the image are gone. The encoded MPEG-2 sequence and disk I've done as a test display just like that.
Why is PP doing this, and how can I get it to use images built to the correct size to be used 1:1 in a sequence instead of being scaled to about 115% of size? Hate to compare this way, but this was never an issue with Final Cut Pro, which I'm switching from. Stills created to the size FCP needed of 720 x 540 displayed and finished exactly as they were made in Photoshop. The only image area lost was the normal bit of overscanning DVDs display at on your TV.

I guess I don't understand.  This is an excerpt from the CS help.  This seems to be inconsistent with what the last two posts said.

  • Google search, gmail, most web pages are suddenly much smaller - Why?

Suddenly, almost all web pages are now smaller. I have not changed monitors or reset the resolution on my monitor. I use the "control +" but the size reverts if I move off the original page. I cannot read most of the Google search results. I am having to resize every page I come to.

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems, make sure that the window is not maximized:

  • Quality of still images imported from i-Photo

I've recently got a new Mac, with updated version of i-Movie. Struggling to come to terms with it, but one major problem is quality of still images.
Whatever I do, they look rubbish in i-Movie. I've tried all sorts of settings, Ken Burns etc, still nowhere near the crystal images on the previous version of i-Movie.
I've read that we're not supposed to look at quality in i-Movie, but only on burning, but this is a nuisance, and anyhow when I made a Quicktime movie it was no better.
Can anyone help? And why, when something is supposed to be better, is it actually worse?
    Thanks.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

You might try more closely matching the screen resolution of iMovie, which unless you are going widescreen is 720x540... There is not much sense in putting in more dpi than the video format can handle. You can get some distortion when it compresses the images.
I do find that they never look as good in iMovie on my TV as they did on the computer however. Ken Burns or whatever we try.
Also, iMovie will stretch smaller than 720x540 images to fit the dimension of the screen, which makes those look truly awful. We usually put those on a black background (in Photoshop) so that they stay at the smaller size.

  • Still images import and sizing in BlackMagic 10 bits footage Premiere pro CS 5.5 and AE

    Hi,
I'm looking for the maths to calculate the needed image size when using normal  images for import to use as still images in Premiere.
The images I have are 72dpi and 240dpi. The footage is Black Magic 10 bits AVI 1920x1080 (1,0) 50i and some stuff is 25p (for keying purposes).
I use Photoshop, Illustrator and Fireworks. I have the same question concerning the import and sizing of images in After Effects.
    Thanks! David

The images I have are 72dpi and 240dpi.
That is completely irrelevant for video editing. The only thing that matters is the pixel dimensions. A 240 dpi image on a 4.3"screen is different than a 72 dpi image on a 200" video wall. The math is simple: one to one relationship. So if you edit 1920 x 1080, use 1920 x 1080 pixel dimensions for your images.

  • Animation sent as a group of still images, import as a movie file?

    Hi
I have been sent an animation to use in a edit, but it has been delivered as a large group of still images, instead of a QT file. I was wondering if there was a way that the images can be imported so that they become a movie file that can be treated as such on the timeline, or if I have to spend the time assembling them back together on a sequence and then use that as a segmented file on another sequence?
I guess I am just trying to save time and the hassle of doing a lot of boring work. Any help will be much appreciated.
    neil

    Hi...
If you have QT pro you can import the image sequence and then export as mov.

  • Forwarded images are much smaller than the original

Something new has happened. After 10 years of Mail I am just experiencing this phenomenon. When I forward an email with pictures or illustrations attached, the forwarded images are about 75% the size of the original. In many instances that takes the readability away. Does anyone have an idea how I can fix this or what causes it? Thanks.

What size is set in the New Message widow in Mail?

  • Pdf's converted to epub in image mode are too small to read on ipad2

I have tried all of the free to sample converters out there.  Many allow you to convert a pdf which has multiple columns, pictures, tables, etc. in image (or picture) mode in order to preserve the original formatting.  Unfortunately, when viewed in iBooks, each page has a (minimum) 1 inch white margin around it, rendering the page illegible.  Is there a way around this or am I stuck with importing the documents as pdf's?  I would certainly like to use ePub, especially for the cover art, if at all possible.  Thanks.
    Ron

Yes I am finding that out.  The original format is MS Publisher 2007... which doesn't convert to much of anything (except pdf).  When I say (in my original post) that the ePub file is illegible, it is formatted correctly but much too small to read (occupies less than 50% of iPad2 screen) even when double tapped.  And of course page turning is not available in this mode.  At this point I am not sure if this is a conversion issue or an iBooks issue, but I'm starting to lean toward the latter.  Thanks for the reply.

  • Multiple still images imported (how to change timing AND do multiple transitions)

I imported into the project resources many still photos.  The defaut time for each seems to be 5.1 second.  If I drag them into the timeline, select them all and change the duration there are time gaps between images...how can I scrunch them together easily OR how can I change the default time duration before I drag them to the timeline?
Second...if I have all my photos on a timeline can I set the transition effect on more than two at a time?  Can I set the transition for all of them at once (a different query)
    Thanks,  -bill

When you've selected your still and used the Speed/Duration command, be sure to tick the "Ripple Edit, Shifting Trailing Clips" option in the panel. That will remove any empty space between clips that would otherwise be generated when decreasing the duration of your clips.
Second...if I have all my photos on a timeline can I set the transition effect on more than two at a time?  Can I set the transition for all of them at once (a different query)
Yes, though there are two preliminary steps. First, in the Effects panel click the flyout button (that stack of pancakes with the little downward facing arrow) or go to Edit > Preferences > General and select the Default Transition Duration option and change it to your desired setting. Second, in the Effects panel, select the transition you want and right-click it and select "Set Selected as Default Transition".
Now, select your clips/stills in the timeline and go to Sequence > Apply Default Transitions to Selection; the transition you just set up will be applied to all of your clips. Note that, by default, this will add audio transitions as well, if you're using combined video/audio clips (probably not a worry in your case as you're using stills), but you can hold down the Alt key to select just the video or just the audio portions of your clips, if you only want one transition type or the other. You can also temporarily lock any tracks where you don't want transitions before you use the command.
Also, since you're working with stills, you don't have to worry about handles; if you import a still into Premiere, even if its duration is only a single frame, you have an indefinite/infinite amount of frames to use for editing and transition purposes. Video/audio clips are a different story, of course...

  • Images pasted are really small

    Hello,
I'm a newbie in Photoshop, can anybody explain why I open a letter sized file in Photoshop and everything I paste is really (really) small? I paste the same image in a letter sized word document and it occupies almost the entire page.... if I zoom Photoshop to 100% it will display the image "the same  size" as in my word document but obviously when I print it I can see the difference in size.... how can I paste in Photoshop an image (it could be from the internet) so when it prints it displays the same size as if I paste it and print it in a word doc? what am I missing? please help this newbie in distress.......

It sounds like you are working with low resolution files and pasting them into print resolution templates.
For example the images you have grabbed online will most likely be 72dpi, and Photoshops letter template will be 300dpi.
A little background reading on image resolution and dpi/ppi via Wikipedia will help you here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dots_per_inch#DPI_or_PPI_in_digital_image_files
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_resolution
If you would like to stretch the image to fit the photoshop template there are a number of ways to do this, the easiest way would be to paste your image, then hit CTRL+T on your keyboard and then while holding the SHIFT key simply grab one of the control points that has appeared on the corner of your image and then drag it.
I think Microsoft Word is simply stretching the image to fit automatically
    Hope this helps

  • Bridge CS4 image Previews are too small

In Bridge CS4 I cannot get the preview images to display anything larger than a large thumbnail view, see image below.  I have tried all of the Preferences in Edit menu (e.g. Thumbnail: do not process files larger than set to 10,000 MB, cache options are keep 100% previews in cache checked/automatically export cache to folders when possible checked/cache size slider is set to 50%, software render has been checked/unchecked/generate monitor size previews checked).  None of these options change anything for the size of the image preview.  I have a DX10.1 ATI Radeon HD4890 XOC 1GB, so my video card is not the issue.  I am running Windows 7 Ult x64 on ASUS P8P67 Deluxe with 16GB RAM and over 2 TB of HDD space. So my system should not be an issue either.  These are Sample artwork images that were installed with Illustrator cs4.  How do i increase the size of these images?
Also, these images are showing everything in the ai image, not the individual images in each ai file.  How do i get it to show the individual images in each AI file like they were separate images, like Illustrator?

Actually, you just solved both of my problems with your question.  I never thought about how the images were created/saved.
It turns out that for some reason when i re-save the images as version CS4 of course and all options selected in dialog box now the images act correctly and resize accordingly when the separator is moved and will get quite large as they should.
I also had to use my mouse and select each artboard/image inside the file then re-saved with same settings as above to get multiple images to show up with the buttons at bottom of image in preview mode.  Now all is good.
These are the default installed sample artwork images.  Not sure why they were like this, may have been some kind of format/process error. Thanks a lot Curt Y.

  • Some movie imports are Squashed! Why?

I extracted the same scene/chapter from a dvd VOB in two different formats - MP4 and DV. When viewed in Quicktime they are displayed correctly at identical sizes with a ratio of 4:3 which was the ratio of the original.
However, when they are imported into iMovie 5 only the MP4 displays and plays correctly. The DV file has been squashed to what appears to be the 16:9 ratio, but it does NOT show any more image at all, it has identical content to the original and the MP4 but is merely squashed down.
Any ideas out there? Thanking you in advance,
    Syd

I think you'll find those are the ones that are unchecked in iTunes.

  • [CS3] In Adobe Premiere, clips are much smaller in sequence timeline than in source window?

I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 to edit a portfolio together. I downloaded my own videos from YouTube as I had lost the raw files, then converted them to .avi and imported them into APP, which worked fine. Though once I started placing the clips on the timeline the video image in the sequence window was about 1/4 the size of what it was in the source viewer! I'm having great trouble with this as I'm used to editing on Avid and Final Cut Pro, and it is the only editing programme available to me as I have a portfolio due in a few days. Any help is appreciated! Thank you

  • AdobeAcrobatPro: Downloaded pdf's are much smaller than scanned ones. How to get scanned ones to be fewer px and not lose quality?

I have several accounts which post .pdf's to be downloaded. These are good quality and are small (kb) files.
I find when I scan paper documents, they have huge pixelation... and as I make them smaller, they lose readability.
I've tried to scan at 72px-300px. I've tried to save as .jpg which was then added to a .docx. I've tried to simply save as .pdf all from photoshop.
Is there a way to get the quality of a downloaded .pdf document and it's low pixelation when starting from a paper document which must be scanned?
I have a Canon CanoScan Lide 100. and I'm using Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 as well as Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Generally, if you want best quality you don't start with a scan. It's just a HUGE picture.
But you can try the "text recognition" feature of Acrobat ("OCR"). Be sure to experiment with the settings, they have huge effects on the result.
For OCR to work you need good quality scans of good quality originals using common fonts in an expected way (e.g. a page from a magazine).
