Still images in iMovie 08

I have been making iMovies (Leopard) using iMovie 6 HD, using all digital images from iPhoto.
Wondering if I can do the same with iMovie 08. What little I have tried has failed.
Jack

Hi Jack,
Sorry to hear you are still having problems with the stills.
Some of the things I mentioned in my earlier post to you work slightly differently in iMovie '08. My instructions were based on iMovie '09 (a much superior version), but they pretty much apply to '08 as well.
I remembered that I still have iMovie '08 on my older iMac G5. The Help files are very useful in '08. I would highly recommend that you have a browse through all the Help articles, then focus on those that have some relevance to what you wish to achieve. It's far too difficult to work through these things step by step in a forum such as this. Just click on Help in iMovie's Menu and select iMovie Help. There is also a link to a Getting Started PDF. Have you tried that link again that I posted earlier regarding iMovie '08 video tutorials? Try another computer if they don't run smoothly on your Mac. Don't forget that there are also text tutorials sitting alongside the video tutorials.
BTW: It appears one cannot send from Imovie 8(9) to iDVD for a burn. Is that correct?
No that is not correct. Whilst iMovie '08 doesn't have an option to "Share to iDVD", you have other ways to do this. In the Menu, click on Share. Here you can Share to iTunes, Media Browser, YouTube and MobileMe Gallery. You can also choose to "Export using QuickTime" where you can fully customize your export using expert settings. iMovie '09 does have the option "Share to iDVD" as well.
For iDVD, the best method is to "Share to Media Browser", whether using iMovie '08 or '09. In iDVD, select the Media tab, then Movies and simply drag your exported movie into one of iDVDs Theme backgrounds.
One issue with iMovie '08 is that setting Chapter Markers is not available (but it is in '09). The solution is to export at full quality and import to GarageBand. Here you can play with the movie soundtrack and add chapters if desired, before going to iDVD.
You mentioned that "I am just using a few images, cannot even get them to play thru smoothly". Is the playback stuttering? Can you describe this a little more fully? Some versions of QuickTime were known to cause playback problems with iMovie. Maybe the playback issue is related to your computer specs or a 3rd party program that is in conflict with iMovie. Hard to say!
Keep persevering Jack - look at the Help articles I mentioned and try to view ALL the video tutorials (even if on another computer).

  • Adding a title to a still image in iMovie for iPhone 4

I would like to add a title for a still image using iMovie for iPhone 4. Is this possible? I can't see an option for this and it seems simple enough. I can add titles on video clips, but not on still images. Any suggestions?

Thanks Joe, hopefully Apple adds this feature to iMovie soon.

  • Editing Still Images with iMovie and iPhoto

How do I turn "stills" created from imported film footage into jpegs? Basically I want to export still images from my videos into iphoto so I can edit and print the images - any ideas? When I drag the still images within iMovie 08 they won't drag to either the desktop or iphoto. HELP!

    1) Position your cursor where you want to create the still.
    2) Right-click (or control-click) and select "add still frame to project
    3) Right-click on the still frame that has been added to your project and select "Reveal in Finder"
    4) Right click on the jpeg file that has been revealed in the finder and select "copy"
    5) Paste the jpeg file onto the desktop or within a folder.
    6) Drag the jpeg file into iPhoto.

    Hi

Perhaps i misunderstand you. Do you mean purchase a software copy from an apple Store and the can i directly upgrade.

  • How to make a podcast with one still image with iMovie 09

I'm using trying to transfer my podcasts to Vimeo. I've been using iWeb to create a person web site with video and podcasts. I have embedded Vimeo with "html snippet widge." I want to do the same thing with audio, however Vimeo only accept "video" files.
In my attempt to work around Vimeo's video issues, I had the idea to use iMovie 09 to create a "video file" using a single still image with my audio podcast play in the background. The single image would be consistent for the entire length of the audio. It seems simple...one still image file and one audio file.
All of my audio files are less than 45 minutes in length. The problem is that when I insert an image in iMovie I can't get it to last for more than 10:00 minutes of my podcast. I've had to drag the same image over several times, extend each image's length to 10:00 minutes until I have enough images to last the full length of the audio file.
I'm sure there's a simple way to do this with one image, used one time, and have the audio added.
Anyone understand my situation and have a good idea?

The most efficient method would be for you to do this in iMovie 6. You can download a version if you don't already have it on your computer. http://supportdownload.apple.com/download.info.apple.com/AppleSupport_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/Mac_OSX/downloads/061-3532.20070807.nq3ER/iMovieHD6.dmg
Put all your clips into a new iMovie project, in the order you wish them to play. Use the chapters tab and add chapter markers for each clip (except the first one; iDVD will add that one for you). Close iMovie.
Open an new iDVD project. Use the Media tab, then Movies, to locate your new iMovie. Drag and drop it onto the main iDVD window, taking care not to drop it into a drop zone. You should then see the title of your movie and the two options: Play Movie (which will play all the clips sequentiallly) and Scene Selection (which will take you to submenu(s) where you can select which clip to view).

  • How do I change the duration of a still image in iMovie to less than 0.1 second?

I am creating a movie using iMovie where I need the still images to be 0.05 seconds each or maybe even less., but whenever I select the still images and go to "Clip Adjustments" and under duration change 0.1s to 0.05s and select "Done", iMovie changes the duration back to 0.1s. I'm fairly new to iMovie and I've been messing around with it for quite a while now and still can't figure it out. Could someone help me?

for stop-motion there are perhaps better tools avail
istopmotion is a commercial app (starting at 40€ in the AppStore) offering additional tools for the animation master, such as onioning or tilt-shift.

  • I cannot use still images in iMovie Trailers anymore

Hi all, I am hoping someone out there can help me.
    I am using iMovie '11  Version 9.0.9 (1795)
    I have a macbook prousing OS x Version 10.9.2
Processor 2.2 Ghz intel core i7
Last year I created a few "Trailers" using still images. All of a sudden I can no longer do this.  I cannot click on the camera icon as it is 'greyed' out or unclickable.  My photos stored in iPhoto.
I can no longer simply drag and drop my images into the 'Project' anymore.
You know when you go to drag an item on Mac and the little green plus ot appears to say essentially 'you can drag here'... well this appears when I try and drag into the 'Event Library', but then a warning/notification screen appears saying "The Files will not be imported.  Photos cannot be imported to the Event Library. Try dragging directly to your Project" .... Well I would if it let me, but it doesn't.
Is anyone else having this problem or has experienced this and has a solution please.
This has wasted more hours than I care to give it, and is doing my head in.
    Thank you

I am bringing in 72dpi jpegs of some of my design work into iMovie
The dpi setting is of NO importance in iMovie/iDVD - only the actual image pixel size. See Preparing images for DVD slideshows at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/17.html for suggested sizes unless you plan on using a lot of Ken Burns Effect zooming.
When I am in iMovie and I drag a clip(still image) into the time line the image looks dull and blurry
The preview window in iMovie is just that - a preview window - for use in editing. It does NOT show the actual image quality of the clip.
Some of us like Photo to Movie or FotoMagico for turning still images into slideshow movies - both offer free trial modes - you might want to give one of them a try.

  • Still images in iMovie for slideshow problems

I am bringing in 72dpi jpegs of some of my design work into iMovie. I am trying to make a slideshow and have the images change by using the music as a cue, new sound—new image, etc... I then want to export it as quicktime movie.
When I am in iMovie and I drag a clip(still image) into the time line the image looks dull and blurry, but when I go to media>show photo settings, it all the sudden looks great. Once I click out of there it goes back to looking like crap.
Any ideas? Do i just need a diff program for doing this?

  • Sharpness of still images into iMovie

    Hi,
I have used iMovie for two years, thought I had encountered all the bugs. However, I am now having an issue with the sharpness of still images from iphoto to iMovie. I use a lot of still images in presentations and for some reason any current photos which are loaded into iMovie are blurry and not near the same clarity as viewed in iphoto. This has never happened before! Any assistance would be appreciated.. thank you

    thank you for the reply
However, I have uploaded thousands of photos from iphoto to imovie in the last two years, all various megapixels. This is a new occurrence, clarity is blurred or not sharp when uploaded photos are viewed in the Photos screen in iMovie and then applied to the timeline. Once in the timeline, the resolution of the photo is not nearly as sharp. Hope this makes sense.....

  • When I try to change the start position for a still image in iMovie, nothing happens. I cannot see the full picture no matter what I try. Any help?

I have been using iMovie on my ipad for a while. When I add a still image to a movie, it adds close up, with only the enlarged center portion of the picture showing. I try to zoom out after tapping the Start button (Ken Burns), but there is no change. There's also no change with the End button.
    Any suggestions?

For reasons only known to Apple, you cannot zoom so far out of an image as to create black areas.
So sadly you cannot zoom out to show the full image.
The only work around is to edit the photo in a photo editing app, and add Black bars on the sides, or top and bottom till the image is the 16:9 aspect ratio.

  • Batch importing tga still images into iMovie HD 6

I need to import a whole series of still images that are stored as *.tga files so I can edit them together, frame by frame, into a moving sequence. I have tried importing them into my iMove HD and I get a 5 second frame that is red.
    My questions are this:
    1) How do I batch import all the stills into iMovie
    2) How do I ensure each still that is imported runs for only 1 frame as opposed to the default 5 seconds? (I can't seem to find how to change the duration of all stills that are imported anywhere and the idea of editing each of the hundreds of images I need to import to run only 1 frame doesn't seem like the easiest way of working
    3) How do I ensure my iMove HD can play the still instead of showing the still covered in a red colour wash?
    Thanks!
    Chris

Hi, I realize this is a little late, but a few days ago I found this link.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304895
Basically, you just have to make sure your images are in either JPEG or TIFF format. I converted my BMP photos to JPEG and the problem was solved.

  • Capturing still image in imovie 7 event

Can you capture a still photo image and print picture with high resolution from an imovie event file

This is one of the things which appears to be currently missing from iMovie 10.  The easiest workaround would be to take a screenshot of the viewer after setting it to full screen.   See also:

  • I wish to export several still images from iMovie as JPEG or TIFF. Is it possible to do this using iMovie, if so how? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I've already managed to add a freeze frame to extract the desired frame but I can't export it. Thanks.

I wish to export several frames from iMovie as if they were images (like JPEGs or TIFFs). Is it possible to do this using iMovie, if so how? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I've already managed to 'add a freeze frame' to isolate the desired frames but I can't export it. Thanks.

Ach... I found a solution thanks to previous posts which came to light after I'd posted what was obviously a question that had been asked before.

  • Creating Still Images in iMovie 08

    Hello
I work with with two G5's and a numerous MacBooks, the problem arose when I was delivering iMovie 08 training. Ctrl - Click - Add still frame to project worked on capturing a still on the G5 and MacBook but did not work on a top of the end MacBook Pro. The option just wasnt there when i ctrl - clicked? any ideas??? All MacBooks and MacBookPro's were operating iMovie 08.
    Regards
    Glen.

Other than that any other ideas? Try installing 10.5? Its just really strange when my g5 and macbooks work fine and these two brand new macbook pros dont!
Not really. Of course I am assuming there are on hardware changes that would preclude accessing context menu or screen capture access which have been part of the OS for some time now. I have mixed emotions regarding Leopard. On the one hand it added several new features. (E.g., like being able to use Front Row now if i want to do so.) On the other hand, I am disappointed that my MPEG-2 encoder is no longer functional, Compressor no longer works (switched to bitVice), and I have to boot up in Tiger to get DVD Studio Pro to work. (I.e., I stopped updating FCP after v4.5/never switched to Studio.) So there are some things lost in updating. Just can't see why a MacBook Pro should be affected.
Anyway thanks for your help and if you can think of anything else please let me know.
Will do. And, if you will, let us know if you find out anything definite in case other users come up with similar problems.
