Still in love with my Pearl, but need a lil help....

Hi All!  I LOVE my Pearl and have had it for 3 years now, although during that time it has been replaced twice.   It is no longer under warranty and is being held together by scotch tape and TLC.  I won't give it up, even though I have been bribed with I-Phone replacements! 
Here is my question.  I recently downloaded a few apps from the BlackBerry App World, but receive a few conflicts with two of the apps.
1.  Dictionary.com App:  When I click on the icon, I get the error message: "Server could not be reached! Please check radio or try at a later time..." (How do I check 'my radio'?)
2.  POYNT App:  Sometimes it will read "cell-site location" and works great, but mostly it reads "GPS not supported" at the very top of the screen.
These applications seem worthwhile if I can get them to work.  Does anyone have any suggestions on resolving these two issues?
Oh wait.  Might as well add one (OK, two ) more question(s) while I have your eyes....
3.  How can I get any YouTube videos to work?  I get the error message "The protocol specified is not supported by the handheld.  Please try a different URL".
4.  Is there a way to add separate ring tones for different address contacts?  I thought there was a way, but do not seem to find it.

Julie, greetings and welcome to the Forums.
1. Not sure there... the Dictionary.com app must user the internet to reach it's server.
Check this, look at Options > Advanced > TCP. What entries to you have listed there?
Who is your carrier?
2. You don't say what exact model of Pearl you have. The base 8100 pearl does not have GPS, not does the 8120. The 8110 does. So, for the first two, Poynt must use your cell tower location to work. You might look at your Poynt Options and see if you can turn off GPS location and use only cell tower location.
3. Try your browser to m.youtube.com
If I recall correctly, it was a later OS release on the Pearl which enabled streaming video viewing. What is your Operating System loaded to your device?
Look at Options > About, third line down beginning with a "v.4.xxx"
What is yours?
4. Profiles > scroll down to Exceptions. You set the overall ringtone for ALL calls, but you can set an "exception" for those callers you wish to have a specific ringtone.

  • My iPhone4 docks correctly with some devices but not others, please help!

    Firstly spologies if this is old news but sometimes its easier to 're-ask' than trawl thousands of pages!.....
    I have a 3-year old iPhone 4 that has developed a problem which i'm trying hard to solve;
    *Phone used to dock fine with anything and everything - this was about 1 year ago.
    *for no apparent reason it ceased docking with my Bose Soundock and a Logic3 accessory dock (connected to a hi-fi) at home
    *symptoms were; it would charge and operate as normal whilst docked but would not play music through either (the Logic3 dock did not acknowledge it was docked). Otherwise it would sync and connect normally with iTunes, etc. and connected fine when plugged into my car.
    *I reset it, restored it from back-up, updated/reinstalled iOS (this has since updated at least twice) with no other effects. Also checked and reset all settings.
    *I subsequently bought a Pure Contour dock as I was able to try it in the shop and my phone worked with it, plus it has Airplay anyway. I have since, in an attempt to find a bedside DAB radio/alarm dock that works with it, found that it works fine with some devices but not others with no rhyme or reason as to which.
    *2 days ago I changed out the docking port myself using a cheap replacement bought from Amazon, to see if it would cure.
    * now the problem is reversed! The Bose and Logic3 docks I have, that it wouldn't work on before, it now DOES....and the Pure dock and my car, which it DID work with before now fail to connect with it!
    *just to reiterate this, my wife's gen3 and gen5 iPods dock and work faultlessly with all devices mentioned....and mine had done previously.
    to my knowledge it is NOT;
    - a compatibility issue. The phone used to work fine on everything I had. Then it stopped. How's that?!
    - a connector issue. The male connectors on all docks haven't changed.......and the female connector in my phone has changed from liking selected devices to then liking the others!! (it is female after all ;-) !)
    -a software issue. iOS has been updated and the phone wiped and restored and all sorts so many times I can;t see how it can be!
    could it be a problem with the data exchange between phone and device when it is docked??
    or do I really need to try changing the port for an 'official' one??
    or is it just broken and that's that?!

    It's either a problem with the connector on your phone (dirt, lint, bent pin, corrosion) or with its connection to the motherboard inside. Cleaning the connector is a good place to start; either a dry toothbrush, air blast can or wood toothpick. Next inspect it carefully with a good magnifying glass or jeweler's loupe. If nothing turns up it is probably damage inside, which will be difficult to fix. Aren't you due for an upgrade about now? Your iPhone 4 is 3 generations out of date!

  • Kernel panic with 1 long beep, need suggestions and helps on iMac 21.5

    First of all, my iMac spec is as follows.
    - iMac 21.5 inches Mid 2011 (Intel Core i5 2.5 Ghz)
    - OS X version 10.7.4
    - Memory 4 GB
    My situation is that I experienced a first ever kernel panic. It forces me to restart the system. I followed that, and then whenever it boots up a one time long beep sound occurs. After that a flickering screen (white and black) with normal chime sound occurs, and repeat itself for 3-4 times before actually goes into a normal login screen.
    Everything is normal, I can use any programs properly. But one thing I notice is that "serial number" is missing in "About this mac" option. I strongly remember that it's there since a time of purchase this iMac. I also take a look at System/Profiles and nothing there as well.
    I also take a look at the kernal panic log in /Library/Logs/CrashReporter and /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports but can't find any relevant logs. There's just one file inside both 2 folders, and that log is dated which is not match to my incidence.
    I tried remove out ram, and switch the slot between them, but it doesn't help.
    Also I've tried reseting PRAM, but it doesn't help as well.
    My iMac is within the warranty but outside of technical call.
    Any suggestions and help would be very appreciated.

  • Help please with 2 users - but need completely separate iCals.

    Hi.  Hope someone can help with this??  I have a Mac OS X Mountain Lion.  I use BusyCal (which I love!) which then syncs with iCal and then to iCloud.  All good.  On that calendar I have approximately 20 colour coded calendars along with birthdays and holidays etc.  Recently I set up a new user on the Mac for my hubby.  We synced his new iphone with his itunes on his user account and signed up to icloud.  Now... when he views his calendar on his phone, or in iCal or iCloud he sees the option of ALL my 20 odd calendars.  He doesn't want them.. I don't want him to have them...  How do I stop this happending please?  They are listed under available calendars, not showing any events in the calendar, as I have unticked them all.  I am just going to check now that I don't have his entries - I didn't think of that - but I need to sign out of his user and go back to mine.  Hope someone can shed some light on tis for me.  Thanks.

    Just checked my iCal and BusyCal and iCloud and his calendar is not there, as far as I can make out anyway - and no entries are in the diary.

    Hi, curtispro. thanks for your answer. My Mini isn't as beefy as yours. My model is the mid 2011. 2.3 GHz Intel core i5.(I've upgraded the HDD to an SSD). Photoshop isn't what I exactly bought it for anyway. I'm guessing the i5 processor should be fine for Photoshop. Of course things will take longer than on an i7. The thing is I have a Dell U2713HM display connected to the Mini and would like to take advantage of the display. It's calibrated. If things don't work out well on the Mini I can still hook it up to my i7. Windows machine.
    Anyway I think I've kind of  diluted this thread lol. Thanks for your information it has helped somewhat. And yes I too am still enjoying my Mac mini to the max after one and a half years. Which was the original post from "Pat *italiano* Valella".

    I have a late 2007 17" MBP, so I am familiar with your model. I might also add that my original Fujitsu hard drive started to go south right after my Applecare expired, so if you still have the original drive, it could possibly be on its way out. To get a more comprehensive check of the physical health of your hard drive, you might want to download and run SMART Utility:

    You can download the demo and run it several times for free.
    Also, how full is your hard drive? If less than 10% free space, it is too full. 15%-20% free space is better.
    You might try a Safe Boot:

    Safe Boot disables quite a few things, one of which is start up items. If things seem OK in Safe Mode, you could probably go ahead and add a new account for troubleshooting. If the new account has no problems, then you have something wrong in your usual user account.
    You can also look at what safe Mode disables to get a clue as to what might be causing your problems.

    I moved a 40GB file off my MacBook Pro to make room so that I could enable the iCloud Photo Library. I optimised the storage but during this process it used 10GB of space and so I cant now put back the file I took off my mac. I though that once I had optimised the storage I would gain space not loose it!. So i'm wondering how can I delete photos off my MacBook and not off all my devices and so I can get this 40 GB file back on ??

    Hi, that's how it works. photos in Photo Stream are these ones that actually exist on your Camera Roll. Photo Stream is an iClous service that helps you to share photos. Just think about Dropbox or any other cloud services, isn't it that you delete a file on your computer, then found the file no longer exist on your other devices?
    If you want to keep the photos while making them occupy less space, I suggest you try SafeEraser's Photo Compressor feature. It compress the photos and make it easy for you to keep them on your iPhone without losing much quality.

  • I used to be able to click on the maximise button (upper right corner) and then drag a firefox page from one monitor to another--I can still do this with other browsers but not with Firefox.

    Don't know what else to add in addition to what I say above. I am running Windows 7 Service Pack 1. Also use Windows Internet Explorer, Google Chrome.

    You drag the window by its Title Bar, always been the same for Windows.

    I have a big problem with my countries special chars.
    Our spec. chrs are á,é,í,ó,ö,ő,ú,ü,ű
    When I save a document every other characters (even other special chars) are okey, but ő and ű will be o and u after saving my document.
    This is really annoy me. I've read a lot of forums in my country, but I can't find any solution.
    When I go to "Edit > Preferences > Fonts" and no document is open, Font Settings: Unicode
    If I change this, and I reopen this window it will be on Unicode again. I can't change it.
    When I go to "Edit > Preferences > Fonts" and my documents are open, Font Settings: "Nyugat-európai" (means Western European)
    If I change this, and I reopen this window it will be "Nyugat-európai" (Western European) again. I can't change it.
    It should be: "Közép-Európai" (means Central European) but every time I change it, it reverts to this defaults.
    Please help me!
    I have to reopen every file in Notepad and rewrite the ő,ű chars.

    Ok, solved:
    From, DW do Edit | Preferences | New Document and set the Default Encoding to
    whatever you wish it to be.  That will set the default for all new
    documents in Dreamweaver.
    For the existing pages, you will need to open them and do Modify | Page Properties | Title/Encoding to set the encoding as you desire.

  • Mp4 used to sync with ipad mini but now won't help!

    I have had a couple of video files on my ipad which I transferred across from iTunes and played perfectly fine, but to save space on ipad I un sync'd them. I am about to go on holiday so thought I would put them back on my ipad but now it says cannot be played on ipad...have I done something wrong? I can still watch them on iTunes on computer and have watched them on this ipad in the past.

  • MBP start up problems :( read many advices, but need more please help!

    Hi, I have a year old MBP, I recently received a new battery from Apple through the battery exchange program. And I also bought a new RAM 2GB and added it on.
    Recently, about 3 days ago, I noticed that I was having trouble starting up my mac os. A day later, it would not start up. However, using bootcamp, my Windows XP runs fine without any problems, although I have gotten one of those blue screens in the middle of studying.
    These are the list of things I've done and tried:
    1. PRAM reset - did not help
    2. Removed ram individually and plugged it in different arrangements to see if it was a RAM problem - did not help
    3. Repair permissions + disk - I tried this, it got stuck about 3/4 of the way, and it would not complete the process after 2 hours.
    4. Archive and Install - I had an error during the process and could not continue.
    5. fsck - I also had an error in the way, saying something about volume
    6. Finally, the hardware test, I did not have any problems in my hardware.
    Unfortunately, I am running out of ideas, if anyone can give me an advice on how to fix it, please help me!

    You never did update your profile or at least answer the question about exactly what model of MBP you are attempting to use and what version of operating system it is running so you are forcing us to guess at answers.
    From the sounds of what you have done so far to me it is sounding like your hard drive is on it's last legs. If data is getting badly corrupted that quickly, it is usually a sign that sectors are going bad at a very fast rate. If it were mine, I would scan it for bad sectors with Tech Tools Pro or a similar utility.

    Ok...I finally got home & am able to play around w/ my new iPhone 4.
    I logged onto my iTunes account and a screen popped up saying "An iPhone has previously been linked to this computer"..Then I get 2 options:

    -Restore from the back up of
    And then I get the options to restore from my fiancee's iTouch and the 1 I used to have.
    By the way...we've never had iPhones before so for It to say that 1 was previously registered is odd...we've only had iTouch's.
    Anyways...I would like to transfer my apps. over.
    What do I do here?
    Do I resore from my iPod touch that I had or do I set up as a new phone?
    And If I set up as a new phone...can I still bring my apps over?
    Help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
