Close inactive apps in the background. No need to reset.
Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.

If you are having WiFi problems it is necessary to isolate whether the problem is with your network or your iPad. Note: Do NOT consider your network to be blameless if some other devices can connect to it.
First, test your iPad on some other networks: a friends, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, etc.
If it works well there then the problem is probably with your network. Try restarting your WiFi router by removing power for 30 seconds. If that does not help check for a firmware update for your router. If none exists which corrects the problem consider replacing the router.
If your iPad does not function well on other networks it possibly has a hardware problem. Contact Apple Support or visit an Apple store for evaluation. They can provide a replacement if your iPad is bad.
If you need more help please give the make, model, and version of your WiFi router and how you have it configured.

On one of my Macs shift-command-f brings a search box that is missing the "To, From, CC, or BCC" option. How can this be fixed?

I run Thunderbird on ~5 Macs and PCs. I am old fashioned and use the brute force search option which you get by edit->find->find messages or option-command-f on a Mac. On one of my Macs a number of the search field options are missing. In particular the "From, To, CC, or BCC" option is missing. I have looked carefully on the Thunderbird support pages, the web, and in the config editor and have not be able to fix this. Any hints on how to restore these missing search fields would be appreciated.

This is a user forum I feel you need to deal with Adobe customer services or support chat did not work in you case.

Occasionally (but not always) parts of my composed text, or quoted text from a previous message, or inserted text that I include within the quoted text from a previous message, gets omitted from the sent message. Many had the same problem. I regretfully abandoned Apple Mail v.3 for Thunderbird. I have since upgraded to Snow Leopard which came bundled with Apple Mail v.4. Does anybody know whether v.4 is reliable? I would like to use it again.

I don't know how to answer this -- I have 15 accounts, evenly divided between IMAP and POP, over 100,000 messages, and I have never experienced what you describe. I find Mail 4.x reliable, as did I also Mail 3.x.
My IMAP accounts are provided by Gmail, FreeMail, AOL and several that are associated with a hosted domain. Who is providing yours?

I'm unable to download iMovie/iphoto, as i didn't buy the mac brand new, it only gives me the 'accept' button when i try to download, i don't mind purchasing, it just doesn't give me the option. any ideas how i can get around this?

I recently purchased a second hand new macbook air, although it was second hand to me the previous owner had never actually turned it on. So i went through all the set up steps when switching it on for the first time.
My problem is that iPhoto and iMovie are not installed, and when i go to the app store the icons have an accept button, it then prompts me for my apple ID, obviously these a registered to the original owner, and says i need that ID in order to download them, or i'll have to purchase them.
I'm happy to purchase them, but it doesn't give me that option, every time i search for them in the app store they always come up with the accept option and no purchase option.
Any idea how i can get round this would be great fully appreciated.

The app developer determines whether the app is freestanding or resides in Newstand. There's nothing you can do to move it. Contact the developer/publisher and let them know what you want.

Is there a way to only have the program download new photos ?

The SD card has hundreds and the program is always attempting to download all images each connection.

Open the Organizer and on the top menu click:
Edit >> Preferences >> Camera or Card Reader
Make sure you check the box - Copy New Files Only (Ignore Already Imported)

I've installed the full version of After Effects, but codecs like MPEG2 and MPEG2-DVD are still miss

The title kind of explains it. I've installed Master Collection CS5.5 as a full version, but After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder are still missing the protected content. I've rebooted and updated, and rebooted again. I've installed as a trial and then entered the serial number later, and I've also tried using the serial number during the install. It seems no matter what combination I try, I can't get MPEG2 to show up in the export list.

Installed/updated iDVD on Mavericks but still missing themes

I am new to the Mavericks OS.
I have used iDVD for years and love it.
Since Mavericks did not come with iDVD, I bought iLIFE 9 and installed it.
So now I have all the older themes but want to get the newer ones too.
When I open iDVD and click CHECK FOR UPDATES, I get the message this is the most up to date version 7.1.2.
But when I check the themes, it appears I only have themes 1-6, not 7.
I tried Apple Updater and installed iDVD7.1.2, but nothing changed. I am still missing the last set of themes.
Any advice what I should do next?

You can install the iDVD 7 themes with the iDVD 7.0.4 updater. If it won't install by itself use the demo version of Pacifist to manually install the iDVD 7 theme folder.

Elements 9 Organiser "Copy new files only" problem

Whenever I import pictures into Elements 9 Organiser it still imports pictures that I've previously imported even though in the Preferences "Copy new files only (ignore already imported files" is ticked. I have to deselect all the pictures and reselect the new ones. Never was a problem with Elements 5 & 6.
Any suggestions..??

In the download dialog box, have set any constants like owner or copyright fields?
Once you have downloaded the image for the first time, do you make any changes to the original in PSE?

New Thread() throws NullPointerException, what happens inside ?

In a multi threaded program, the following line causes a NullPointerException:
Thread tt = new Thread();
Only one thread at a time accesses this line. I use 'inner classes', inheritance and many threads. Is there a subtle side effect that causes the exception ?

Ive found out that new Thread() calls new Thread(null, null, gname).
If group is null like in this case, the group is set to be the same ThreadGroup as the thread that is creating the new thread. Unfortunately the thread that is creating the new thread has no ThreadGroup (e.g. is null). How is that possible ?
