Still no 7.8 in India?

Hi,
My Lumia 800 is still on 7.5, the 7.8 update notification update still doesn't show up. I've tried with Zune, have the phone set to check for updates...but still nothing. The 7.5 update came fast enough. When can I expect the 7.8 to show up?
The official release was on Jan-30th.
-Thanks,

And before any one asks, no it isn't a network locked phone. :-)

  • Account hacked and Paypal account charged

My account was hacked and charged. I changed my password but I still see new calls to India. Well done Microsoft!

Same case here. Account hacked around End of April 2013.. and Calls made to India, Pakistan and Cyprus.
Were you able to get credit back. Any help on how to restore the account?
Skype's Customer Service sucks - It is pretty shamefull that a voice telephony company can not put its customer service on skype voice call... and instead using chat only function.

  • Network upgrade completed and no internet

Well BT emailed me are pleased to tell me that my network upgrade has been completed on the 22nd June. They actually did it 21st June so good on them for doing it early. However, since this time I have had no internet connection. My BT Home Hub connects at 10,800 downstream with an upstream of 888 kbps but I get nowhere on the 'net. BT Home Hub is v1.00, so I have wireless, data and broadband lights no internet light.
Three BT engineers have been scheduled. First said, issue is at the exchange and he would pass the call over. Still not working when BT India called back. An engineer was scheduled Friday...no show. An engineer was scheduled today...no show.
So, one upgrade, 3 engineers, umpteen minutes on the phone and still no internet connection. I am so very annoyed! Trying to be civil to the poor BT India people but slowly going mad.
Can a BT forum mod help me before I take a gun from my cabinet and either point it at the router or at my head?
EDIT: Yet another engineer booked in for Wednesday.
    Solved!

I know exactly what's wrong with your internet connection because it took us over a week to get ours reinstated after the 'Retail Migration Team' had kindly updated our network.  What they are keeping quiet is that the old white HomeHub (which we had) is not compatible with the network upgrade so it will never work while you have the old hub.  Trying to make the call centre in India understand what was wrong was **bleep** - even though I have to say they are very polite and do try to help, but they can only follow their technical script.  We knew for a fact that our equipment was all working ok and it was to do with the upgrade.   An engineer finally called and he was on the ball enough to know that, after thoroughly checking us out, our HomeHub was the problem and I wonder if BT knew that the old hubs may have this problem but don't rush to help you if they can save the money by having to replace your hub to a nice new black one!  The engineer instructed to phone the call centre again and tell them that they had to send me a new hub.  I did ring and by now, probably because of me moaning, my call was diverted to the BT Priority Care Team who, once they were involved, sorted out it all out.  They said that my hub was not compatible and was out of warranty as we had had it so long.  I told them I was not going to pay for a new hub  as their network upgrade had caused this.  They totally agreed and within two days a nice new black hub arrived via Royal Mail, I plugged it in and hey presto, we have internet.  The BT Team then called every day for a week to make sure we had no problems.
So don't be fobbed off with engineers and call centres telling you to reset buttons etc etc.  YOUR HOMEHUB does not work with the new upgrade and it is for them to replace it with a new one with no payment due from  yourself.  Hope this all helps and stick to your guns.

  • Just for Laughs : If you find dangerously bored

    Hi all,
Just want to share with you an old joke:
If you find dangerously boring in the office,Then here are some tips to overcome boredom:
    1. Form a detective agency to find out who is quitting next.
    2. Make blank calls to your Boss.
    3. Send mails from lotus notes(outlook) to your internet mail (and immediately get to the internet and see who reaches first, you or your mail?) and read them there, and note down the time they take to reach there. Then do vice versa............. !!
    4. Rearrange the furniture, i.e. flick someone else's chair just to irritate him/her.
    5. Count your fingers (and toes if you still get bored).
    6. Watch other people changing their facial ex-pressions while working and try changing your ex-pressions also.
    7. Try to stretch status meetings as longer as possible, just by asking silly doubts.
    8. Make faces at strangers in office.
    9. Have a two hour lunch; it's a big social occasion.
    10. Learn to whistle.
    11. Revise last week's newspaper.
    12. Hold "How fast my computer boots" competitions.
    13. Practice aiming the coffee cup into the dustbin.
    14. Compile "How to waste your day"
    15. Pick up phone and dial non-existing nos.
    16. Have work breaks in between tea.
    17. Count maximum no of applications your computer can open at time.
    18. For Win NT/95 users....Move things to Recycle bin and restore them..Then repeat this process.
    19. Look at someone & try to imagine how(s) he might have looked when(s) he was 5 years old.
    20. Read jokes and send jokes.
    21. Make full use of the comfortable chair and table provided and take a nap.

I found it really funny and thought you will like it too...:)
An Expert who works in BAAN, Netherlands who spent two years in Hyderabad, wrote this hilarious article.
Driving in India For the benefit of every Tom, Dick and Harry visiting India and daring to drive on Indian roads, I am offering a few hints for survival. They are applicable to every place in India except Bihar, where life outside a vehicle is only marginally safer.
Indian road rules broadly operate within the domain of karma where you do your best, and leave the results to your insurance company. The hints are as follows:
Do we drive on the left or right of the road?  The answer is "both". Basically you start on the left of the road, unless it is occupied. In that case, go to the right, unless that is also occupied. Then proceed by occupying the next available gap, as in chess. Just
trust your  instincts, ascertain the direction, and proceed. Adherence to road rules leads to much misery and occasional fatality.
Most drivers don't drive, but just aim their vehicles in the intended direction. Donu2019t you get discouraged or underestimate yourself except for a belief in reincarnation; the other drivers are not in any better position.
Don't stop at pedestrian crossings just because some fool wants to cross the road. You may do so only if you enjoy being bumped in the back. Pedestrians have been strictly instructed to cross only when traffic is moving slowly or has come to a dead stop because some minister is in town.
Still some idiot may try to wade across, but then, let us not talk ill of the dead.
Blowing your horn is not a sign of protest as in some countries. We horn to express joy, resentment, frustration, romance and bare lust (two brisk blasts), or, just mobilize a dozing cow in the middle of the bazaar.
Keep informative books in the glove compartment. You may read them during traffic jams, while awaiting the chief ministeru2019s motorcade, or waiting for the rainwaters to recede when over ground traffic meets underground drainage.
Occasionally you might see what looks like a UFO with blinking colored lights and weird sounds emanating from within. This is an illuminated bus, full of happy pilgrims singing bhajans.  These pilgrims go at breakneck speed, seeking contact with the Almighty, often meeting with success.
Auto Rickshaw (Baby Taxi): The result of a collision between a rickshaw and an automobile, this three-wheeled vehicle works on an external combustion engine that runs on a mixture of kerosene oil and creosote.
This triangular vehicle carries iron rods, gas cylinders or passengers three times its weight and dimension, at an unspecified fare. After careful geometric calculations, children are folded and packed into these auto rickshaws until some children in the periphery are not in contact with the vehicle at all. Then their school bags are
Pushed into the microscopic gaps all round so those minor collisions with other vehicles
on the road cause  no permanent damage. Of course, the peripheral children are charged half the fare and also learn Newton's laws of motion enroute to school. Auto-rickshaw drivers follow the road rules depicted in the film Ben Hur, and are licensed to irritate.
Mopeds: The moped looks like an oil tin on wheels and makes noise like an electric shaver. It runs 30 miles on a teaspoon of petrol and travels at break-bottom speed. As the sides of the road are too rough for a ride, the moped drivers tend to drive in the middle of the road; they would rather drive under heavier vehicles instead of around them and are often "mopped" off the tarmac.
Leaning Tower of Passes: Most bus passengers are given free passes and during rush hours, there is absolute mayhem. There are passengers hanging off other passengers, who in turn hang off the railings and the overloaded bus leans dangerously, defying laws of gravity but obeying laws of surface tension. As drivers get paid for overload (so many
Rupees per kg of passenger), no questions are ever asked. Steer clear of these buses by a width of three passengers.
One-way Street: These boards are put up by traffic people to add jest in their otherwise drab lives. Don't stick to the literal meaning and proceed in one direction. In metaphysical terms, it means that you cannot proceed in two directions at once. So drive, as you like, in reverse throughout, if you are the fussy type. Least I sound hypercritical,
I must add a positive point also. Rash and fast driving in residential areas has been prevented by providing a "speed breaker"; two for each house.
This mound, incidentally, covers the water and drainage pipes for that residence and is left un-tarred for easy identification by the corporation authorities, should they  want to recover the pipe for year-end accounting.
Night driving on Indian roads can be an exhilarating experience (for those with the mental makeup of Chenghis Khan). In a way, it is like playing Russian roulette, because you do not know who amongst the drivers is loaded. What looks like premature dawn on the horizon turns out to be a truck attempting a speed record? On encountering it, just pull partly into the field adjoining the road until the phenomenon passes.
Our roads do not have shoulders, but occasional boulders. Do not blink your lights expecting reciprocation. The only dim thing in the truck is the driver, and with the peg of illicit arrack (alcohol) he has had at the last stop, his total cerebral functions add up to little more than a naught. Truck drivers are the James Bonds of India, and are licensed to kill. Often you may encounter a single powerful beam of light about six feet above the ground.
This is not a super motorbike, but a truck approaching you with a single light on, usually the left one. It could be the right one, but never get too close to investigate. You may prove your point posthumously. Of course, all this occurs at night, on the trunk roads.
During the daytime, trucks are more visible, except that the drivers will never show any Signal. (And you must watch for the absent signals; they are the greater threat). Only, you will often observe that the cleaner who sits next to the driver, will project his hand and wave hysterically. This is definitely not to be construed as a signal for a left-turn. The waving is just a statement of physical relief on a hot day.
If, after all this, you still want to drive in India, have your lessons between 8 pm and 11 am when the police have gone home and - The citizen is then free to enjoy the 'FREEDOM OF SPEED' enshrined in our constitution.
Having said all this isn't it true that the accident rate and related deaths are less in India compared to US or other countries. !!??

  • Totally Free BroadBand....! After Home Move

Yes that’s right Free Broadband from BT
All you have to do is fill out an online home move request and let BT do the rest.
I moved house a month ago asking to take all my BT package with me, Phone and Option 2 Broadband
I moved next door a distance of 6 feet.
On the  July 29th everything moved across OK, then a few days later I received a final bill and refund for £66 on my account which also included a £30 broadband disconnection fee. why? when all I wanted was a change of address????
So I phone BT (India) after 20 minutes a nice chap answers and I explain as best I can. “I’ll have to speak to manager” he says
The Manager suggested creating a new account number as they couldn't understand why my old account was now closed but I still have all my services running "this will take 48 hrs to take effect" they said.
3 days later I try to log into my account and its still closed.
another call to India after 90 minutes being bounced around from billing back to home move then back to accounts I was sent a sms text with my old account number on it so I could log in and check my bill so I log in and its shows my account is closed…..
I thought… "live chat" that might help maybe I’ll get to talk to someone in the UK
Nope they just said “we need to connect you to billing” back to India I go......
then I phone the BT automated billing service and this tells me I owe £17 and I cant set up a direct debit until this is paid off. Funny I thought my account was closed..?
left it a day and tried again this time I found out they have opened a new account and that’s got £17 on it and is only set up for a phone, no broadband. The chap on the phone said he couldn't trace where my broadband was coming from and that he would phone me back , that was 3 days ago…..
all this time my services have been working fine, phone and broadband, great you might think but I’m an honest person and would like to pay, I even want to upgrade to unlimited BB as I feel that BT provide the most reliable service and I have been with them for 14 years, but it seems impossible for BT to sort there mess out. So at the moment I have decided to just pay the phone bill using my card  (as they have closed the direct debit) and enjoy my free broadband which according to BT comes out of thin air…
If any BT people on here would like the challenge of sorting this mess out I would be very grateful all I’m trying to do is pay you money for the services I’m receiving...
    Best Regards
    Jason

I run both boxes by Ethernet cable, the vision box started to charge for content so naturally thought my account had been disabled.  Went to the vision box and got the dreaded Error BTV-251.  Tried rebooting the box & my hub.  Tried to update the software manually, still no good.
Phoned India.  After a few tests, eventually got to the maintenance mode to download the software from scratch.  Went through the setup mode and now all is fine.
Went back to the vision box and it is still charging for content.  Powered off and did a soft reboot.  Hey presto everything is now back to normal.
For those that don't know, to access the maintenance mode, power off with the switch at the back, as the circle light goes orange press Volume- and when the option to enter comes on press the power switch, all on the box.  It then goes in to the mode where there are 5 or 6 options.  I had to select the 4th one.
The one strange note I need to watch is that the software for the last week has been saying it has updated everyday! which is weird and could be part of the problem.
    Manufacturer Software Version    10.6.0
    Component Software                  1.3.4
    Platform Configuration                 332
    ISP Configuration                       27

Although I have been using Google Maps App in India for a while now (without any issues) but I still want to know if there are any plans for launching Turn by Turn Navigation under the OOTB Map App for iOS?
It has been quite a while since Apple came up with Map App of their own and should be releasing improved maps with more capabilities in India.

  • How to replace a faulty iPhone4 in India (purchased in another country, still in warranty?)

I would like to know how to find a replacement for a faulty iPhone4 in India (purchased in another country, which is still under warranty?)
    Please help. Thankx.

Expanding on what RG said, the warranty on an iPhone, with the exception of those purchased in the European Union, is country-specific, so you will need to send the iPhone back to a friend or relative in the country in which the iPhone was original sold to take or send it to Apple or the appropriate service provider. You will not be able to get the iPhone serviced in India.
    Regards.

Is there an "APPLE STORE" in India or you just went in a reseller store?
There is a replacement program for sleep/wake button for free. Just look for an Apple Store and make a reservation at Genius Bar.
I have an iPhone 5, bought in Dubai U.A.E.
It is a US model (model A1428) which is different of the model use here in Italy/Europe
My serial number is qualified for battery replacement program.
I thought the Apple Store wouldn't repair my phone because I bought it from another country , a different model and it is already out of warranty.
The Apple store's staff just checked if my iPhone's serial number is eligible for the program and he replaced the battery for free today.

I bought an iphone6 T-Mobile Contract free from US. Can i gift it to my parents in India.?
Will a nano-SIM card with any Indian carrier work? They will have to just toss away the T-Mobile SIM and put in nano sim for any Indian carrier, right?
Will my international warranty still be valid? In case of any repairs/services, can that be done in India? Will these services be charged while the phone is in warranty period?

If the phone is purchased in the united states, warranty service will need to be provided in the united states.

    Dear sir
Thank you very much. I am not a computer davy. still I ail try to explain. I am in Chennai India. My service provider is BSNL. I have a broadband connection wit 4 mb speed - though I get only 3 to 3.3 mb. The TC is connected to the modem *** router through ethernet in wired LAN1 socket. My iMac is connected to the modem in LAN2 socket through either net. Though the TC is permanently connected to the modem-router, it gets connected to the internet only if it is shown in the dock. If it is exited from the doc, it loses internet connection. I tried factory reset. Still the same problem. Therefore, unless the iMac is open and the Tc is shown in the dock, TC is not connected to the internet. Therefore all the time iMac need to be open and running. I hope, eih little knowledge I have explained. Thank you
    S KANNAN
    IRS(RETD)

The TC is perhaps in the wrong mode..
If you have a modem router the TC should be connected by ethernet and the computer plugged into the TC not the modem.
TC will be in bridge mode.. but it can lose connection on a daily basis.. if you have that issue downgrade the firmware as later firmware is not reliable.
I recommend 7.6.1 but the earlier ones are better on 7.5.2 .. anything more than 18mths old should go back to 7.5 firmware.

  • A list of kit wise update, like in Update to 2.1? In India, still no Update

    Hello there,
Am in India and still waiting for the update. But, some people have got it in this country.
During 2.1, Rikaard had given a list of which kits had received the update. However, no such help is coming this time round. Am connecting everyday to PC companion & SEUS, but to no avail. It is showing 'your software is up to date'.
I know Uliwooly has given a link wherein the Update can be made, but I am not at all comfortable & confident about myself & am sure to brick the phone.
Can someone please provide which kits, or better still, which regions have received the update? My phone is generic.
