Still no burn

- ok found a great list of things to do when idvd STILL won't burn .
but need help - in how to do things listed.
#0 - always use "Save as Disk Image" instead of burning when troubleshooting iDVD
I did that - it was successful- at least the screen said it was - what do i do with it - just keep for backup - what - ?
Get free space on the startup drive -20GB recommended - mine has 77 GB free
Delete the iDVD plist file com.apple.iDVD.plist - where is this?
Repair Disk Permissions
i am only creating slide shows and then burning in idvd - and i know my questions may sound dumb - but this software is frustrating me a lot!
any help is appreciated -
(ps. - have already cleaned w/ compressed air, cd cleaner disk, and changed dvd media three times - originally verbatim worked great for about 10 months)

  • HT1645 I have changed the encoder preference to all the different settings but it still wont burn my cd! What should I try next?!

What should I try next? I have a movie in iDVD all set up to go and it keeps telling me that there is an encoding error, so I have changed it to all three settings but it still wont burn and shows me the same error.

    Hi
    • Delete iDVD pref. file
    iDVDpref. file resides.----> Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. (one or more of these)
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
com.apple.iDVDApp.plist (may be ? - not sure this exist)
    and find
    com.apple.iApps.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
If You run Mac OS X.7 or more - then the Library in the User-account folder is invisibly and need to be set to be viewable. IT IS NOT in the Library on Root level (when opening MacintoshHD - first window = root level)
( It can be done like this: Open Terminal, then enter: chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press return, then restart, and it will always be visible until the next major update, when you do the same thing again. )
But there are better ways to do this - but as I'm only in Mac OS X.6.? - I have no hand on know how - but the above way works if carefully done.

  • Reading lots of forums but still cannot burn disks

    Hello,
I have tried numerous ways to burn a dvd disk, but I cannot seem to be able to.
I have tried with toast, I'mtoo DVD and Disk utility.
I have repaired disk permissions, updated, and currently working with 10.5.4. Even tried the gimmick of changing the languages in system preferences.
    I can read DVD's still.
The blank DVD's I am using worked perfectly a couple of weeks ago.
The other thing I have noticed, is when I place a blank disk in the drive, nothing comes up on my desk top, although disks with content are seen on my desk top.
When attempting to burn from the disk utility, the error message is "the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media".
When attempting to burn from toast 9.0.1, I get the error message "Sense key = medium error Sense code = 0x73, 0x03" The lead in process does not get to start either.
I currently have 12 GB spare on my HD.
    My specs are listed below.

  • Still no burn CD icon in latest iTunes update

After the update I just did I figured I would get a burn CD icon. But Apple still left it out. Perhaps Apple is trying to get people to drop burning CD's.

I did not post the comment because I do not know how to burn CD's. I posted the comment because I do not understand why the burn CD button is gone. Why do some just assume I do not know how to burn a CD? The button is for more convenient. I think Apple is trying to discourage CD burning and wants to encourage just using a iPod or iPhone.

  • DVD still not burning, iDVD still "quitting unexpectedly"

    Hi All
I am at a complete loss, I have tried everything I have found on this forum.
I have created many DVD's before and once or twice had this problem, making sure I had 20GB of free space cured it then but not now.
I have a 16 minute video as the main component and two very short movies in the drop zones, one for the main menu drop zone and one in the chapters drop zone. I did have the droplet transition on but now have got rid of that in the vain hope it might make a difference, but no. The preferences are set for PAL and Best Quality, but I have also tried Best Performance.
I have deleted the prefs – made no difference, iDVD still "unexpectedly quits".
I have reinstalled the whole of iLife – causing havoc with iPhoto, it's fine now thanks. – made no difference, iDVD still "unexpectedly quits".
I have tried the Hurz and Furz Easter Egg hack – made no difference, iDVD still "unexpectedly quits".
I have tried recreating the whole project – made no difference, iDVD still "unexpectedly quits".
This project was for my boss who thought he might like to buy a Mac for home and was so impressed with the way each of the iLife apps were so tightly integrated and all you could achieve... then I was unable to give him the finished product!
    Can anybody help? Pleeease...
    All help gratefully received.
    Thank you.
    G5 PowerPC   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   iDVD 4.0.1

I just ran into the same problem - iDVD 4 quitting in the middle of a burn. Highly irritating when you're running out of media! I can't say whether I was using DVD-R or DVD+R media - they came in a bundle and were not labeled. There may be an issue between iDVD 4 and Tiger - don't have the controlled experiment to tell.
I ended up solving the problem by upgrading to iDVD 5. I was lucky - I'd bought one of the last of the dual 2.5G machines, which came with iLife 4 installed but the iLife 5 media in the box. I highly recommend upgrading. No learning curve involved going from iDVD 4 to 5 - I just reopened the saved project after upgrading, hit "Burn" and it worked. Also, iDVD 5 supports a greater variety of media, notably DVD+RW, making experimentation less wasteful.

  • All of a sudden I can't burn CD-R's but still can burn CD-RW's and DVD-R's

after I burn a music CD toast will tell me that it can't verify my cd as it has an illegal request and buffer problem. I get three of these windows with error numbers and then toast sez that it cant write the lead in and lead out for disc.
this problem appeared after burning CD-R's for years with no problem. is this virus or has some setting been changed(I raise teenagers)

There may be something amiss with the optical drive; or maybe just the disc
media you are using now. Have you tried other burn utilities to see if you can
use one of them and burn a CD? I'd try something free and easy to use, such
as Burn 1.61u from http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net to see if that'd work.

  • Why, after switching DVD player, can my macbook still not burn CDs?

    Hey Apple,
I wanted to ask you one thing:
My macbook Pro is a little over two years old, and I am loving it. Although, it has been a couple of months that my DVD player is not working smoothly. I went to the Genius Bar, since I couldn't even burn CDs - which is my biggest concern-, and I left it there so they could switch the DVD player completely. Now, as I try to burn CDs again, it says Medium write error again. I want to know why. I have read previous discussions, but I just bought these blank CDs, and they used to work perfectly before.
Have any idea why this is happening?

  • HT203164 help! i am using itunes 10.6.1.7 and windows vista 64. itunes will no longer burn cds. i have searched online and tried all i saw that could possibly fix it and it is still not working.

    i have tried:
    reloading itunes
    unchecking 'write'
    removing lower filters in regedit
ensuring i had the correct 'gear' info in the upper filters in regedit
    removing 'gear' from regedit, system32
    reloading updated version of 'gear'
    cleaning my registery
    deleting itunes
    cleaning registry again
    reloading itunes
    cleaning registry again
i still cannot burn cd. t i can import and play cds in itunes and i can watch dvds. itunes will just not burn to blank cds, and i have tried sever new blank cds, each is not recognized.
i do not know what else to do, i have searched the internet and whatever i saw doable i tried.
when i check the cd drive in itunes i had gotten a 4220 error, cnet advised to download a free error fixer, however, this error fixer gave me and enduser message, so that didn't work.
the diagnostic for the cd burner read that i had to put in a formatted disc with content so i did and there are the results of that were that it read the cd and that the 4220 errir code was encountered last time there was an attempt to burn.
and 'could not open cd handler 32. there is a problem with the installation of the drive in windows or the drive contains a copyprotected cd.
the above is not the case as it also popped up for me to import cd to itunes.
i tried to copy and past the entire contents here but it would not allow me to paste.
    please help!

I too have only recently encountered this problem. I have been able to burn disks before but it keeps making all these weird sounds. It might be a hardware problem but the fact that everything else that uses a disk works I doubt it.

  • Can no longer burn audio cd's -- urgent -- is iTunes update defective?

I'm a composer-- we're getting ready to record another cd and I desparately need help here!!
I can no longer burn an audio cd from a play list! It burns but not as an audio. I also looked on directions and I'm supposed to be able to do this.
These are my tunes that I wrote and uploaded into the library and then moved to a play list
When trying to figure out what happened, I noticed that itunes had been automatically updated to the most current version on my computer --
I was still on 10.3 which doesn't support it -- I've since downloaded the 10.3.9 (plus checked other required software that's supposed to be updatyed) and still cannot burn the cd's
    Please help --

I won't pretend this is a welcome suggestion...but if worst comes to worst, you could consider purchasing Toast.

  • Can't burn a cd in itunes with windows 8

When I try to burn a cd in itunes with Windows 8, I get unknown error 4310.  I am able to burn music and text files with
windows  but not itunes. I believe there may be registry errors and compatiblity issues with Windows 8 and Itunes.
Other errors I received when I tried to fix the problem are disk burner and software missing and disk recording missing.
I have consulted with Dell and ATT ConnectTech and no one seems to be able to solve the problem.  I have uninstalled
itunes and reinstalled itunes several times but still cannot burn cd with Itunes with windows 8...Anyone who has
faced this problem and solved it I would love to hear from you

I don't have much help, but yes, I did burn a CD in iTunes 8. Had some problems--different from yours--and got help from my Apple Care...although they wanted me to write an e-mail to the Apple Store for help (I insisted that Apple Care should cover it and I wanted to talk with someone. Eventually, I got someone in the US). I also turned off the Genius. Don't know if that helped or not.

  • Dvd keeps ejecting during multiplexing and burning in idvd

Ok, I realize a lot of other people have had this problem and somehow managed to resolve it. I have done a lot of reading and experimenting but so far NOTHING has worked. So, to recount everything that I have tried and all the details to this problem:
First of all, I would like to mention that I have successfully burned a number of DVDs in idvd in the past. Then suddenly it just stopped working.
I have run a verify/ repair disk permissions. I have deleted all the idvd files off my computer, the .plist and preferences file, restarted, and reinstalled iDVD TWICE with a custom install. I have 500 gb of free space on my boot drive. I used a cleaning disc on my SuperDrive, and my regular DVD player. I switched to a better brand of blank dvd. I am now using Sony DVD-r, 4.7 gb discs although memorex DVD+r always worked just fine before. The project I am burning fits on the disc. I am not using chapters. I tried turning on the tv safe area and made sure everything was inside it, but still the same problem. I tried booting up in safe-mode then restarting. Still, same issue. I am burning at 2x speed, using professional quality setting. The project preview works just fine. It goes through the whole idvd process just fine, until the burning and multiplexing. After burning about 10 minutes of the project, the disc ejects suddenly. Idvd says "done" but then at the bottom it says "about one minute left" and the little burning wheel symbol is still spinning. The disc plays fine in my DVD player till about ten minutes in, then freezes and eventually goes back to the main menu. I can see on the disc that it is only partially burned.
Oh, and I have also tried saving to a disc image and burning with toast and disc utility. Once, this actually did work with toast and resulted in a playable DVD. The weird part was that I still got the error sense key message in toast and thought I had made another coaster, but when I tested the DVD it worked fine in my regular dvd player only (it was not readable in my xbox or ps2). Since that one fluke, however, it hasn't been successful. Disk utility did not work for burning the disc image. I am absolutely at a loss here...somebody PLEASE help.

I believe I have finally fixed the problem but I am going to post what I went through just in case someone else ever runs into these same issues, maybe I can save them some time. I went through so much troubleshooting and each problem solved seemed to result in new problems, so, let me recap.
First, computer was working fine. Burned a DVD, it worked. Then a few days later, tried to burn another DVD. It didn't work. I tried different brands of discs, different types of discs, (-r and +r) sometimes there was a partial burn, sometimes no luck at all and an unusable, unplayable disc. The disc would eject early during the burning phase, giving me simultaneous contradictory messages that it was both "done" and had " about one minute left".
I tried running a verify/ repair disk permissions. Everything came out fine, but still no burned DVDs. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling idvd. I tried a cleaning disc. Still no go. Sometimes idvd would crash or freeze on me or give me error messages. Result varied depending on what i tried, but were never good.
Then I bought an external drive and tried saving my DVD project as a disc image and burning with toast as many people have suggested. This worked! So, I concluded that my SuperDrive was faulty but I'm not going to bother getting it replaced right now because the external works just fine. I thought my problem was finally solved, but then...
I noticed that upon restarting, my computer would display a white-gray screen as is normal, with the familiar apple symbol, but now a new addition: a very annoying loading bar that took 5-10 minutes to load. Unacceptable!!! Also, I noticed shortly after that iTunes did not work. It wouldn't even open, but crashed due to an error and asked if it could send a report. I tried deleting and uninstalling iTunes but that didn't work.
I ran another verify disc permissions with disc utility, and I got a very bad error message. It said there were errors on the drive and it could not be repaired and it said I needed to start up from the Mac OS X install disc and use disc utility to repair the volume. Problem with that...my install disc says it can't install on this computer. I soon learned from one (finally) helpful apple support guy that the reason for this was that I am running snow leopard 10.6.8 and the disc that came with my computer was for 10.5.2 or something.
On a side note: I had called apple support before and specifically asked if the reason the disc didn't work was because it was for a different version and the guy said he had no idea if that was the reason or not. Jerk. CLEARLY, that was the reason and my ignorant butt didn't know any better and he wanted me to pay 19.99 just to answer that question for me.
So, I went to the apple store and purchased snow leopard. It was delivered today, I started my computer from the new snow leopard disc and repaired my drive. Restarted. A bit slow restarting but no more loading bar and not as bad as before...iTunes still didn't work but I completely uninstalled a reinstalled it again and this time it seems to be working fine. Idvd is working, I saved another movie to disc might. And am assuming it will still burn fine with toast in the external drive.
During my arduous troubleshooting I discovered that I most probably have the seagate 1 tb hard drive that was recalled by apple due to its tendency to fail...whether this has been the root of my computer's troubles from the start, I still don't know for sure. But, everything seems to be functioning correctly now at least and since my computer has lasted this long without hard drive failures, maybe it will be ok. It's possible that I somehow caused the errors while I was fiddling around on the computer trying to fix idvd and iTunes. Hope this is helpful to somebody, someday. I did gain a lot of advice from various forums on the web and found many people having one or more of the issues I was running into, so I thought I should record my process here for others as well.

  • Burning cds in different formats

    Hi,
I have about 80 songs that i have in my library (not from itunes store) that i want to burn to a cd. as of now, it will only allow 12 or so songs because of the file size. is there any way i can convert these songs into an mp3 or some type of file that will allow many songs on one cd?

Yes, it is in my library. I did try changing that preference but when i tried to burn again after changing the setting, it would still only burn 20 or so songs.
