Still no Chapter Points in Encore

I've made two projects with PPro2 with markers to be used as chapter points for Encore 2. (Both projects have text in the chapter marker box.) The first project's timeline imported into Encore just fine, including the ten chapter markers. For some reason, when importing the second project's timeline into Encore, the chapter markers don't follow. The only difference in my workflow was that the first show was converted to Desktop editing mode by mistake. The project was originally made with PPro 1.5. I opened it in PPro2 before installing the new Matrox Xtools software for PPro2 which lead to Ppro2 changing the editing mode to Desktop.
I've got a good command of both programs and have read the various discussion hear. Have tried several different clips and tests to try and finds some relationship, but have hit a wall.
Suggestions greatly appreciated.

In PPro2, I'm exporting a timeline to avi, then importing that avi as a timeline into Encore2. Installing Matrox Xtools and changing PPRo2 editing mode from "Desktop" to "Matrox rt.xntsc" is the only system change I've recently made. As mentioned before, I had imported chapter points into Encore2 successfully before installing the Xtools and changing the editing mode.

  • Exporting Final Cut Chapter Points to Encore

    Blu-ray question.
I'm creating a bluray in Encore cause Apple hasn't gotten their act together yet.
What is the best way to get your chapter points from Final Cut to Encore? Or do you export as a self contained movie, import the file into Encore then create your chapter points?
    What is your workflow?
    Thanks.

Do you mean "Markers List As Text" option?
I used that, but when I imported that doc into Encore it said: "the software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system. Installing the correct decoders for the files you are working with may help to correct the problem."
    Am I doing this right?

  • Chapter points from Premiere timeline?

OK, the truth is I have never run Encore before.
    I have Premiere Pro 2.0.
I need to start authoring some DVDs.
I don't think the Authoring capability included within Premiere Pro 2.0 will quite do it for me. So, I'm looking at getting Encore. A couple of questions:
    1. When I specify chapter points within the Premiere timeline, can those somehow be imported as chapter points in Encore or do I have to specify the chapter points all over again?
    2. What version of Encore should I get? (I'm not even sure any version other than CS3 is available.) If I get CS3, will I need to start using Premiere CS3 as well?
    3. I want to have Dolby Digital (AC3) format to save space on the DVD disc. Does Encore take care of this?

Just looking around, I saw that Amazon.com.UK had EncoreDVD 2. Amazon (US), only listed the upgrade. eBay might be a good source, but beware of pirated, bootlegged, etc., versions. Adobe Store does not list it any longer, but there might still be some legit copies hanging about, either privately owned, but never installed/registered/activated, or by retailers, who did not sell every copy, prior to the release of CS3, and the change in packaging.
    Good luck,

  • Error message encore cs5 end action can't execute on the final chapter point

Dvd plays great. Exported it as a mpeg 2-dvd,  video only. Audio separate as a .wav. imported video as a timeline, audio as an asset. Video is not transcoded.
But I have a sub menu, with 6 chapter markers. I check the project and I get this: "error message encore cs5 end action can't execute on the final chapter point"
Do I need to make a chapter playlist? Because that gave me a "orphaned playlist" error message.
I selected the last chapter masker and had the end action go to the sub menu.
    Thanks!

Saw a previous thread where bill hunt said it ignore it and try to burn a copy.

  • Encore Chapter Points

I'm having problems placing chapter points where I want them in Encore.  I haven't figured out what is limiting placement.  Any ideas you have would be most appreciated!  I'm using CS4 on a right speedy beefed up pc, in case you're wondering.

    Welcome to the forum.
Per Stanley's suggestion, can you tell us about your Assets, and their Transcode status.
For a bit of background on GOP, should that be the cause (very likely), this ARTICLE will give you some insight.

  • Adobe Encore CS4: End action will not execute because of end action on the final chapter point

    Error screen:
Error I’m getting for section titled Notes (PP 45 second video): “End action will not execute because of end action on the final chapter point.”
The icon that shows error is in top line second from end.  I’m trying to 'end action' that portion of the video by going back to 'menu default'; also tried end action w/ ‘Stop’ and neither work.
I saw a post about checking timeline.  Not sure what I’m looking for there.  I have nothing in Orphanage area.  I also tried building despite Check Project error and it will not build project.  Any suggestions on how to fix: “End action will not execute because of end action on the final chapter point.”?

Select chapter one on that timelne. Look in the properties panel. Does it have an end action? You do not want an end action on the chapter; just on the timeline itself.
That will not generally prevent a build, however. So you may have other issues.

  • Dual Layer and Chapter Points

    Hi everyone.
I have just finished a wedding dvd and I'm having several problems burning it into a DVD+R DL (I am using Verbatim Printable now). The only way I can accomplish that is to generate a ISO file from encore and use ImgBurn to burn the dvd.
The problem is that after burning the DVD in ImgBurn, the chapter points I defined in encore's timeline are wrong. Some of them seem to be outdated for a few seconds and others are refering other chapter points, however in the preview of encore everything is fine.
It seems that it was created a chapter for the layer break i guess. Because when i navigate with  the ">>" button, the 3rd chapter is the ending of the 2nd... and is not mapped that way in encore preview.
Does anyone can help me out?

As we all know Toast resets the Dual Layer break
point to the exact point... no good if you want to
    manually set it in DVDSP.
My question is if I create a disk image with the
point set in DVDSP and burn through disk utility will
the layer break point be reset or will it maintain
the DVDSP setting. As I can control the burn speed I
prefer this to direct burning from DVDSP
    Thanks!!
Unfortunately, the break point may still change even if you burn an image file with Disk Utility. The issue isn't that Toast or Disk Utility are resetting the break point on purpose; it's that the disk image that DVDSP creates doesn't contain any layer break information. From page 584 of the DVDSP 4.1 manual: ".img: Use this option to create a disk image. With a dual-layer project, a single “.img” file contains the entire project, without any break point information."

  • End action will not execute because of end action on the final chapter point

I will be referring to this video:
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-encore-cs4/creating-an-event-dvd/
I followed this exactly, except for the slide show (and I made a DVD instead of flash), but when I checked the project, I get the error message "End action will not execute because of end action on the final chapter point".
I don't understand.  I did not change any end points except for the one specified in this tutorial.  (About the Max footage for the very beginning, before the menu).  If anything was added, it was Adobe's doing.
I do notice that in 00:04 in the tutorial, there's a downward arrow on the very end of the timeline.  My timeline does not have this.  How was this done?
In the Encore software, after the timeline is loaded, there is no arrow at the very end.  Mine doesn't have that either.
I'm finding Adobe/Encore's way of making menus rather difficult.  With Pinnacle Studios (at least through 8-12), making menus was easy, and it set up the chapters for you.  Why can't there be an automated menu feature in Encore?
    Anyway, here's my project:
Main time line has 9 chapters. When clicking on their chapter points, all say End Action: not set.
When I click on the white bar above the lite purple footage of the time line, where the chapter point's bottom rest, it says, End Action: Not Set AND Menu Remote: Return to Last Menu.
All 9 chapter points are white.
In the flowcart, there is the DVD icon --> my few seconds opening credits --> menu that has a Play All and Scene Selection button
Play All goes to first chapter of video
Scene Selection (submenu #1) goes to 6 scenes, a next, previous, main menu.  All seem to be linked properly.
Scene Selection for scenes 7-9 are in the #2 submenu.  Has a previous button and a main menu button.   All seem to be linked properly.
Can anyone offer any advice?  Help?  I need to make this DVD and two others by the end of the week!
If you need more information, please let me know that too.

If I make a change in the timeline in Premiere, will that new change be reflected in the timeline of Encore?
If you used Adobe Dynamic Link, then yes, the Timeline will be updated. If you did not, then you will need to Export again, then Import into Encore. Watch out if you have already Transcoded, etc., and I'd name the new Timeline Export differently, Import that, use Replace Asset. When a Project is very new, and nothing much has been done, it will not be so picky. After a couple of links, etc., it gets VERY picky, and Replace Asset will help.
Is there a way to reload the project without having to redo all the menus and links?
If you did a Save_As, or still have your original Project, i.e. you started a completely new Project with a unique name, you can go back to the original.
    Hope that helps,
    Hunt

  • How do I automatically create additional chapter menus in Encore

I have built a menu in Photoshop. It has four window frames which will represent the chapters from 1 - 4 and will be motion menus. I have brought it into Encore CS4 and verified that it will work. I am able to select each window which are labeled Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, and Chapter 4. I am also able to link each window to a chapter in my timeline, render it, and each window does show motion video correctly.
What I am now trying to do, is to add additional menus for the remaining chapters of the video. I am unable to figure out how to do this without going back to Photoshop and creating a new menus which show the additional chapters, and then bringing them into encore as additional menus.
From what I have read, it seems that encore is supposed to be able to do that for me automatically. One of the ways I tried was to go to the menu section and try to create a menu index, and when I click on that, I get a window that opens up and a window opens up which says "The chapter index could not be created because the current menu does not contain any chapter buttons." Perhaps I am not understanding that message correctly. When I select the different chapter areas on the menu, a selection window does surround that area. I thought that indicated that this area was a button. Can someone help me understand what I'm doing wrong?

    Hi Bill,
Thank you. I will use your procedures, however h
ere is the place where I read about the automation I was attempting. Am I reading it wrong about what I can do with this procedure? It appears to allow me to take my original menu and using the steps shown, Encore will create additional menus and links all my additional chapter points.

  • Using same chapter points for separate projects

When I use the "Replace Asset" operation to replace one video asset on a timeline with another of the same format, the chapter points remain unchanged. This is a very useful feature, because often one needs to make some minor changes to a video asset (e.g., to correct an mistake), and it's nice not to have to redo all the chapter points on the timeline.
But it seems that it isn't possible to replace a video asset of one format with the same video asset encoded in another format. Nor can I take chapter points and move them or share them between timelines or projects.
Any way around this problem? I'm getting tired of having to replace chapter points and relink them with menu buttons because I can't figure how to share them between projects, titles, timelines, or do a simple Replace between differing video formats.

You can replace with different formats as long as the audio matches.
For example, you can't replace an .avi file (which has PCM audio) with an elementary .m2v mpeg video stream (which doesn't have audio at all), or with a muxed .mpg file that has .ac3 audio. But you can replace that .avi file with a muxed .mpg file that has PCM audio. My tests reveal that you also have a little more "audio latitude" when replacing .mpg files with .wmv files.
You cannot share assets or objects between projects in CS3 or earlier. You can't do it in CS4 either, but because of the new dynamic link with Premiere Pro, you import a Pr sequence without having to render to an intermediate mpeg or avi or mov file. That makes the replace asset issue moot, because any change you make to the Pr sequence is immediately updated in Encore's timeline.

  • Pauses at chapter points

When playing back my DVD, i get slight pauses at some (but not all) of the encore chapter points (these were created in Premiere CS3, which output an .m2v). After a pause occurs, if i back up and play through the chapter point again, it plays seamlessly. The Encore project only has one timeline. I have some menus which allow the user to start playback at various scenes in the timeline, and playback continues to the end of the timeline. there are no end actions on any of the chapter.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Ken Fong

So you should NOT have END actions set on the Chapter points, to play the whole timeline from Chapter 1, in Play Movie button.
So how do we use the Chapters, when used individually?
Can you set different end actions in a Play List, than in a sub menu for playing certain chapters on their own?
So end actions on the sub menu, do not effect the timeline's chapters, so allowing continuous play from the main menu AND separate play in other sub menus?

  • Menu Button Links Aren't Lost When Adding Additional Premiere Chapter Points

I have a single overriding need in Encore. All other enhancements are secondary.
Problem: If you change Premiere chapter points in a sequence, the Encore menu buttons lose all the chapter point links when the sequence is reloaded.
Let's look at the work flow for a real world production situation.
I create a Premiere sequence with 16 sequence markers as chapter points. In Encore, I create a timeline using the encoded Premiere sequence. I then link buttons in a menu to the chapter points in the timeline. My customer reviews the proto and invariably wants the following changes:
    1) Add additional chapter points.
    2) Move existing chapter points.
    3) Add or remove some footage from the Premiere sequence.
Ideally, I should be able to add or move chapter points in the Premiere sequence including adding or removing footage. Upon entering Encore, Encore should realize from the date of the encoded m2v and wav sequence files used by the Encore timeline that something has changed and reload the modified files into the timeline. By looking at the chapter names in the Premiere sequence, Encore should match the chapter names in the menu buttons with the Premiere chapter names. Encore should then assume that the Premiere chapter points have moved and accordingly have the menu button point to the new location on the timeline (at the appropriate GOP location).

    Use the edit original command.
    Encore takes you into Premiere.
Move the chapter points to different locations.
    Save
Export -> Adobe Media Encoder (Use same file name)
Encore progress bar indicates it is reloading.
However, the Encore timeline shows the chapter points at the original locations.

  • 99 chapter points

Is there any work around on 99 chapter points, we have to author DVDs that require more than 99 chapter points. Having just moved from Encore which had a work round for this we are slightly stumped now we dont have the same work round in DVD Pro.

Also make sure that the first track is first, and the second track is second in the title-set order.
If using version 3, move the second track in this series just under the first track.
If using version 4, make sure that 2nd track is in the title-set number just after the first. You can see the order by selecting the Outline tab's VTS option.

  • Transfering Chapter Points to new timeline.

How do you transfer chapter points from on timeline to another. I want to do this because I have made a mistake in the previous video and you obviously have to re-export it so it becomes a new clip. Thanks.

Just re-export it with the same name and path as the original clip - Encore will re-read the file the next time you open the project.

As a test... try this from some notes I saved... and, to create a dual layer, you MUST use the Run as Administrator option
Create an ISO (Encore) or folder on your hard drive (Encore or Premiere Elements) and then use the FREE http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download to write files or folders or ISO to disc for DVD or BluRay (send the author a PayPal donation if you like his program)
Imgburn will read the ACTUAL disc brand from the disc, which is not always the same as the box label (Memorex is notorious for buying "anything" and putting it inside a Memorex box)
When you write to disc with Imgburn, use the SLOWEST possible speed setting, so your burner has the best chance to create "good, well formed" laser burn holes... since no DVD player is required to read a burned disc, having a "good" one from a high quality blank will help
