Still no dynamic scaling of video with QT 7.1.1
I lost this functionality when I upgarded to 7.1 from 7.0.4 on my Dual G4 with an ATI 9800 Pro.
The window would slowly expand when you switch from full size down to half size (Control- 0, 1, 2 ,3 and F).
Currently seems to scale slowly when displayed in controller (framed) window and scales rapidly (immediately) when displayed in no controller (frameless) window.

Content Aware Scaling on Video Layer
Hello,
I hope this is possible because it works really well on still frames but how would I go about applying content aware scaling to a video layer inside PS? Basically I'm trying to use this feature to fake an aspect ratio change where by I have a subject surrounded by a relatively uniform background and I would like to be able to create a protection mask as an alpha layer and have photoshop apply the content aware scaling only to the background(to fill in the empty parts of the rescaled video) and leave the subject untouched.
What I've done is opened a video in photoshop as a layer, created an alpha channel to represent the subject(subject is white, background is black on the created alpha channel), changed the canvas size to the new aspect ratio which obviously created a tranparent frame around the original video frame. I then tried to apply content aware scaling to the video, it converted the layer to a smart object then displayed the free transform handles. However, when I selected my alpha channel as the protection area, the content aware scaling seemed to ignore it and went on to distort the entire frame. Now I tried this with still frame from the same video with the same mask/alpha channel and it worked as expected just didn't seem to do it with video.
The idea, if it would be possible to do this in PS, is to rotoscope the subject roughly in AE and generate a matte pass which can then be used as the acompanying alpha layer of the video so then the content aware scaling can be applied to each invidividual frame.
Is this possible??No that's not what I was trying to do, I mask the central subject of my frame and as I said it was surrounded by a fairly uniform background(main subject is a rock formation in the middle of the ocean) I want to change the aspect ratio of that frame, so I created an alpha mask to cover the main subject, the surrounding background was not covered in this alpha channel mask. This way when I scale using the content aware feature all that happens is the background(the water) is streteched evenly with lesser distorion(than normal scaling) while the masked main subject is "avoided" with completely no distrotion. I think the key point you missed in my description is that I am in fact creating an alpha matte for only my subject not the entire frame and using that in the "protect" option of content aware scaling.
The result is essentially a frame aspect ratio change that does not sacrifice the resolution around the main subject(because the main subject remains of the same size and PS doesn't have to interpolate any pixels...this is obviously is not the same as just resizng and cropping where the subject and background are streched evenly to fill an essentially larger area of the screen causing "softness"). The result using this method is also much more predictable from frame to frame than content aware filling because it's taking information from the current frame and using is to fill the empty background resulting from the aspect ratio change. I know this works because I tried it on individual still frames from the video then compiled them back in on AfterEffects...thats not my problem. My problem is when you try to natively try to do this inside PS on a video layer(rather than a still frame) it doesn't work and I'm not sure if this is a bug or if video content aware streching is just not supported.I have CS6 Production Premium. -
I've successfully imported the videos I've shot with my iphone5 into iphoto on my MacBookPro but they're only showing up as still shots, ie the imported videos don't play! Itunes no longer opens automatically when syncing, and when I open itunes it shows that there are zero "home movies" in there, meaning that it never grabbed the videos from my phone either. What to do? Thanks!

Meh, not that it matters anymore. I ended up redownloading 70-odd albums, so I have the bulk of my music back. And I still have no idea what iTunes did with my files, but I'll make sure it never does it again.

How do i put tv programmes and videos from itunes to another iphone, without having to delete all data on the phone and replacing it with my library? i switched the 'sync only ticked songs and videos' yet it still wont let me transfer videos from my itunes onto my new phone, any ideas??
Copy the entire itunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.

I need to generate a still shot from from a video I made with my camera. I would like to accomplish this task using a single application. If this is not possible with my MacBook Pro as purchased from Apple, please recommend which applications I can purchase that include this feature. Thanks in advance.
For FREE do the following:
When you get to othe part of the video you want a still shot from, put the video on pause.
Take a screen shot: Apple>Shift>4 - which will produce a cross hair so you can manually select which part of the video you want.Check inside either your Applications or Utility folder for an app called Grab. Will do the above with just a single click.
If you still want to purchase software, suggest that you do a Google & MacUpdate search. This way, you can find exactly what you want. -

Problem 'covering' video with stills
I hope someone can help me here, since I've searched the "manual" as well as some of the blogs that were suggested to me. (One post on blogspot came close, but it's explaining something different.)
My middle school kids are editing their news projects. Mixed in with their reporting is 2 sections of "voice over". They recorded it by aiming the camera at the person speaking, knowing they'd later "cover" the video with pics they got off the Internet. In the old iMovie, this was done by extracting the audio.
I've spent some time today trying out what they will do tomorrow, and there are some problems:
1) When I drag the photos on top of the video clip, the photo appears (with the audio preserved) but the photo looks extremely cropped. It won't let me adjust the image. Now if I bring the photo into its own place on the timeline, I can fix it by choosing "Fit"... but then it won't let me drop it on top of the clip. It's a Catch-22.
2) Even if I'm prepared to accept these super cropped images, every time a new image appears, it briefly cross-dissolves back to the original footage that's underneath. I've tried moving the first image so it starts early, but when that one runs out after 3 seconds, it goes back to the kid speaking, then to the second image, then back to the kid speaking, then to the third image.
Can anyone help? I'm pulling my hair out here.

1) This one describes how to extract audio from the event clip in iMovie 08. The audio can then be pinned to photos in the project if you like (command-shift-drag). This method would also give you the flexibility to use the Fit/Crop/Ken Burns tool.

2) This one describes a bug when you use the method of dragging the photos on top of video, and how to get around it. However, I do not know a way to edit portrait-oriented photos using this method. You are better off using the method in #1 if your student took a lot of portrait (as opposed to landscape-oriented) photos.

Poor quality image with doing videos with photos/images HELP!

I bought Adobe Premiere Element to make videos with pictures. When I do the video, the quality of my photos is good. When I save the video on my computer or I download it on youtube (example) the quality of my photos is extremely poor. Why? Does anyone can help me? Not so, if you are also using Video. I tried several types of parameters. Some parameters give poor quality when I upload it to Youtube (for example) and others in the design of video and upload to YouTube. So which settings should I use for photos only ?
This sounds like you are talking about the Export/Share settings for output to YouTube.
What I was asking is what did you start off with, when you were at New Project?
If you are doing an SD Project, you will have either 720 x 480 (NTSC), or 720 x 576 (PAL) pixels in the Project's Frame Size. If that is what you want, then I would Scale your camera original Stills to 640 x 480 (for NTSC), as you have Square Pixels, and the Project will have either 0.9 for NTSC Standard, or 1.21 for NTSC Widescreen).
PrE can Scale the Still Images, but the Scaling algorithms in Photoshop are much better, and offer more control.
Now, if you wish to do an HD Project, just choose that as your Preset, and then use the Images in about their original size. Note, there will be some black borders, as the screen-caps most likely have a different Aspect Ratio, than a Video Project, which for HD will be 16:9. Especially with screen-caps, that are pretty low resolution to begin with, I would NOT do any Scaling, and would live with the letterboxing, or pillar boxing, rather than Scale and effectively Crop.
Also, when Scaling in Photoshop, I do not Save_As JPEG, as it introduces compression, but only as either PSD (Photoshop's native format), or PNG.

Making Quicktime slide shows (videos) with Windows
Hello. With the Mac platform, I am able to use my photo program, iPhoto, export photos from it and make a Quicktime slide show (video, with accompanying music from my music program, iTunes. Is this also possible with Windows, ie: where would the 'Export' command be and how would music be integrated into it? Any other helpful comments would be appreciated. Thank you.
You can open many different audio and image formats with the Windows version of QuickTime Pro. To assemble a slide show of still images you could open a folder of liked sized, sequentially named images and add that new file "scaled" to the audio track.
You could also open the audio track and "add scaled to selection" your individual image files. This method would allow you set the duration of each slide to different values but would limit your show to 98 images (99 track limit).
This method could also use different image dimensions, different "offsets", transparency "blends" and mask layers. Depending on your intended distribution format you could make HD sized QuickTime movies with multiple images displaying simultaneously (Brady Bunch style).

How do I import AVI video with stereo audio (and keep it that way)?
Today I just discovered that all the AVI video with stereo audio I've ever imported into a Premiere Pro CS6 project has been mysteriously converted to mono. And I can't find any import setting anywhere that enable me to change this.
Here's the deal...
I've have an AVI file with stereo audio (the file is actually a stereo sound test that I downloaded to prove that I wasn't imagining things). On my hard drive, I right-click and view the properties:
Video
Length: 00:00:36
Frame width: 320
Frame height: 240
Frame rate: 25 frames/second
Audio
Bit rate: 128kbps
Channels: 2 (stereo)
Audio sample rate: 44 kHz
I click on it to play and listen with headphones--everything is playing in the correct part of the stereo spectrum. Then, I import it to Premiere, click the file name in the left content menu, and check the properties, suddenly they read:
Type: AVI Movie
File Size: 1.1 MB
Image Size: 320 x 240
Frame Rate: 25.00
Source Audio Format: 11025 Hz - 16 bit - Mono
Project Audio Format: 11025 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Mono

Sure enough, I drag it into the sequence, listen to it, and it's indeed playing mono. Outside of Premiere, the original source file still reads and plays correctly with stereo sound.
When I import stereo WAVs and MP3s, it keeps the original stereo channels without me having to do anything special. I even just imported the same exact file as a MOV with stereo audio, and it showed up in Premiere as:
Source Audio Format: 44100 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 44100 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
What is going on here with AVIs? Am I doing something wrong? Are there settings I'm missing somewhere?
(And before anyone suggests I only use MOV in the future... that's not exactly the answer I'm looking for.)Thank you for that info.
For video, the codec is MPEG-4 Video (XVID) and for audio it says MPEG Audio Layer 1/2/3 (mpga).
There are two issues with that file:
The first is the Xvid CODEC (not meant for editing), and then the MPEG Audio/MPGA. I would convert that file, to something that is more editable.

Since i upgraded my iphone 4s to iOS 6.0, i can no longer watch or view my Movies or Video's in my Music Playlist. I can still view them in my Videos which is not in orderly manner or arragement like i wanted unlike in the Playlist. There is some sort of restrictions i guess. I already checked the Allow All Movies but still the videos does'nt appear. What should I do?
Please HELP ME.
Thank you very much.Similar problem here. My Ical refuses to edit or delete events. Viewing is possible, though sometimes the whole screen turns grey. Adding new events from mail is still possible. The task-pane completely disappeared. My local apple technic-centre messed about with disk utility for a bit and than told me to reinstall leopard. I could of course do that, but it seems to me that reinstalling Leopard just to fix iCal events is a bit invasive.
I tried also tried removing everything, installing a new copy of iCal from the leopard-cd, software updates, all to no avail.
At the moment I'm open to all suggestions that do not include a complete leopard reinstall. -

I'm having a hard time lining up the audio to the video with FCPX.
I'll just advise what I am doing.
I have recorded video of me playing bass guitar along to a song.
I have recorded the video in 720p with a DSLR.
I have recorded the bass guitar audio directly into Garageband (Using a USB interface) on a separate track to the song that I am playing along to. (It is played very well and is not out of time to the original)
I then mix the original song and the new bass guitar audio played by myself and export as an AIF in Garageband.
I import the video from the DSLR and AIF audio into Final Cut Pro X (10.0.5)
I can get the audio and video NEARLY bang on to timing, but its still ever so slightly off. As its ever so ever so slightly off it looks like I'm not really playing the bass guitar myself.
I'm moving the audio intricately but I just cant seem to get it lined up EXACTLY.
My camera picked up a tiny bit of audio so I can hear and see the audio wav on the video track to try and line it up with the audio wav of the AIF, but no matter what I just cant get it to line up and look exactly right.
Can anyone offer any advise or tips?

Expand the timeline to see the detail.
Rather than lining it up manually you could try the Automatic Audio Synch if there is any audio on the original video. -
No Video with FCP HDV with QTP
I have a strange question....
I have an Intel G5 iMac (10.4.11) and I capture and edit with FCP 5.0.4 using a Sony Z1 using the HDV 1080i50 sequence (I live in Hong Kong) I edit the video and export Quicktime movie using my sequence preset HDV 1080i50.
I cannot play the exported video with QTP!!
I hear sound but there is no picture. I only have a white screen!!
I can open this video with FCP and it plays fine!!
I can then take this exported video and transfer it to my G5 dual core tower (10.4.11) and the video plays fine in QTP!
I would really like to be able to use QTP to play these videos! Both the iMac and G5 tower have the exact OSX and FCP. The only difference is one is Intel and the other is PPC! Has anyone had problems playing HDV videos on intel macs?
Any ideas or suggestion?I've re-installed FCP Studio and the problem still persists....
