Still no fix for superdrive not reading any disc at all?

I've searched through the forum and it seems like there's still no solution for the superdrive not reading any sort disc at all. I have had this imac for almost a month. I rarely have used the superdrive but was trying to play a normal audio cd tonight and upon further investigation found that the drive is not reading any type of disc.
If a disc is loaded, the drive whirs/beeps 4-5 times while trying to read the disc and then ejects it. this happens for dvd movies, audio cds, osx install disc, etc.
I did successfully play and rip some cds a few weeks ago when the imac was first purchased. I have not inserted discs often enough in the past to substantiate that upgrading to 10.4.5 or 10.4.6 affected the drive's performance.
Think I need a new drive or could this be software related?

I want "solved"
You can add me to the list too - I check this page frequently for a reply from an apple representative - to no avail.
My computer is less than 2 years old, purchased brand spankin' new, w/o the warrantee - but hey when you pay that much for your 'puter it should not break down at ANY time during (at least) the first 5 years, unless gross negligence and disregard is involved (which is is not).
I would not categorize myself as being in the 'high usage' category for burning either dvd's or cd's, but here I am less than 2 yrs after purchase w/ a superdrive that can't even read a store-bought cd, and oddly enough the problems I am having DO seem to coincide w/ download of a 'security update.'
Hmmmm......
I would like, at the very least, a helpful suggestion from someone working for Apple - if not an acknowledgement of an actual issue with a faulty (expensive) product.
A guarantee of satisfaction with a purchase should not be wrapped up in purchase of a service plan - good customer service is good policy, and should be provided as a means of standing behind the quality of a product you both sell, and believe in.
There is no good reason why my computer should be broken, and there is no good reason why it shouldn't be fixed - and I see a lot of you have even more reason for complaint than I do. It is irksome in the extreme that this issue seems not to warrant the attention from anyone who can make a difference to our plight.
One would think that a drop-down menu on an official web-site would have a better response rate from affiliated 'professionals' - but we all know the old adage about assuming...
Hey - maybe customer service really is dead - and I might believe that if it weren't for the fact that I respond, personally, to customer e-mails on a daily basis...
Where is our response?
I apologize for the lengthy "blog" - but short and sweet hasn't done the trick..maybe this will?? We can only hope...

  • CD/ DVD Drive is not reading any discs! - HP Pavillion DV6747TX

Hi there, I have a problem. My CD/ DVD Drive is not reading any discs! I have no idea what's happened..it was going fine and then all of the sudden it stopped working.
The computer I have is a HP Pavillion DV6700 or DV6747TX to be exact and the CD/DVD-Rom drive is a TSSTcgrp CDDVDW TS%L632N ATA Device. It seems to be present in the Device Manager and in the Computer Menu. When I put a CD or DVD into the disc drive lights are blinking and it sounds like it's trying to load or do something, but nothing is coming up. CD Drive E still says CD Drive E instead of reading the disc that's in there and when I click on Drive E it says Windows cannot read the disc in drive E.
I have tried searching the net for answers including the suggestions on this website and have tried a few other ideas I have come across but nothing seems to be working. Any help would be greatly appreciated

This is usually  a known software conflict and happens across the board will all computer manufacturers due to a issue with multiple media burning/ripping applications being installed on your system.
You can either run this file, go online to Microsoft's site for a fix, or manually fix it by following the instructions below:
    Manually delete the registry entries
Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
322756  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/ ) How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
Note Before you use this method, uninstall all CD or DVD writing or recording programs. Deleting the corrupted registry entries might cause problems with any other CD or DVD writing or recording programs that are installed on your computer. Uninstalling these programs before you start will help you avoid any problems that removing the registry entries might cause. You can reinstall these programs after the problem is resolved.
This method provides step-by-step instructions for how to use Registry Editor to delete the following corrupted Registry entries:
    UpperFilters
    LowerFilters
Step 1: Start Registry EditorStart Registry Editor
Start Registry Editor...type "regedit" into the run box on the start menu.
Step 2: Delete the UpperFilters registry entry
In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.
Expand Control, and then expand Class.
    Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
In the details pane of Registry Editor, on the right side, click UpperFilters.
Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only.
If you see the UpperFilters registry entry in the details pane of Registry Editor, go to step 6.
If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to "Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry."
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
Click Yes when you receive the following message:Are you sure you want to delete this value?
Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry
In the details pane of Registry Editor, on the right side, click LowerFilters.
Note You might see a LowerFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click LowerFilters only.
If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content is unable to help you any more. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
Click Yes when you receive the following message:Are you sure you want to delete this value? The LowerFilters registry entry is removed.
    Exit Registry Editor.
    Step 4: Restart your computer
Restart your computer. After you have done this, try to access the CD or DVD drive. If you can access the CD or DVD drive, and if you do not receive an error message, the problem is resolved. You can reinstall your CD or DVD writing or recording software.

  • CD/DVD Drive is not reading any discs on Equium A100

My cd/dvd drive is not reading any discs whatsoever, blank, written or commercially written. It opens and closes and the light to show it is working is on. Device manager says the device is working properly.
Tried updating drivers, no updates available. Tried system restore back 1 day then 1 week then 1 month and still the problem cannot be rectified. When i put a cd/dvd in the drive and try to access it, it says: D:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
Can anybody help me i've tried everything me and my friends can think of, or is it a better idea to just send it back to toshiba under the warranty.

    Hello,
Here are a few windows articles that could help.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891894/en-us
This one might do the trick, if not try this one.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826510/en-us
Hope these help resolve the problem. If not it could be a registry setting error which can be rectified as well. But only if these 2 above do not help to resolve the problem.

  • HELP - iMac SuperDrive not accepting any discs

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me.
I have a 21.5-inch, Mid 2010 iMac running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 and the SuperDrive is acting up.
To put it simply: it's not accepting any discs.
And I don't mean that the discs go in and get ejected right away. No, I can't push them in. I know you have to push the discs in further (and with a bit more force) than on previous iMac models, but I get about half of the disc in and then it just stops. It feels as though it's hitting something and I'm not stupid enough to push harder and probably get it jammed.
    I've tried a few things:
    - reset the PRAM
    - used Terminal to force the drive to eject and it only made a faint beeping sound, not what you'd expect
    - logged into my Windows partition and tried to load a disc in there
    and it's still the same.
The weirdest thing is that I loaded a DVD without any trouble just yesterday!
Has anyone encoutered this problem? Does anyone have a suggestion?
    Thanks in advance.

As I was putting my iMac to sleep last night, the SuperDrive made a noise, the iMac woke itself up and then the drive worked just fine. I'm baffled but glad.

  • Hard drive not reading any disc

I am trying to insert software into my hp touchsmart IQ526 and it wont read any disc i put in

For the purpose of troubleshooting, can the DVD/CD drive read a commercial DVD or a music CD?  If no, then probably the drive has failed.  From the page illustrating the DVD/CD drive, it appears to be a "laptop" style drive.  Harder to change out, but not impossible.  If that task is beyond your skillset, try an external drive that connects via USB.

  • SuperDrive not reading any DVDs or CDs

My Matshita UJ-857E (ZA0E) SuperDrive died on me....
It now does not accept any CDs or DVDs and instead just spits them back out a few seconds after putting them in the slot.
Running Leopard 10.5.5 on MBP (Aug. 2007)...
I really need to use the drive.
I am out of warranty and am prepared to purchase a new drive if required, but want to leave that as the last option. Any hints as to fixing the drive will be greatly appreciated. (I guess ruining the drive by doing something stupid is not a problem... it's already ruined!)
    Thanks!

    Hi
A viable option is an external drive, such as made by LaCie. I bought a FireWire drive a few years ago and it's still a useful spare. Getting a new drive fitted inside your MB now it's out of warranty will probably be very expensive.

  • My ENVY 17 3D's Bluray drive does not read any disc.

    I got a refurbished ENVY 17 3D (i7 740Q) and having a bluray drive issue.
When I insert a disc in to the drive it keeps spitting the disc out after a few seconds. And I can't hear any motor spinning sound. It's weird, I mean at least it should be reading the disc then spit it out, on the other hand it do exist in my SYSTEM. I didn't have a single burning CD software installed but I did install an iTunes. Should I return it to HP?

Anyone has solution to this, before I decided to send it to HP for repair?
I tried the Optical Drive Diagnostic using HP support assistant, but since the drive keep ejecting the media (CD/DVD/BR) for testing, I can't complete the diagnostic. I uninstalled and reinstalled with the latest drive update, still the same problem, even with the latest BIOS update.
I even went with a complete system recovery reboot and still can't solve the problem. The BR drive worked fine since it's recognized by the system, and Windows does not show any error. So why does it keep ejecting the CD/DVD/BR?
This happened out of the blue btw, so I have no clue what caused the problem. It was working fine like moments ago.

  • G5 not reading any discs....?

sorry if this has been posted somewhere, but i did not see anything that could possibly solve this problem. i can eject my tray just fine but when i insert a disc (CD, DVD, burned & regular), the drive wont even spin or read it. so obviously nothing shows up on my desktop. it was working fine until a few weeks ago. i have tried a lens cleaner but my computer wont even read that. i have no idea what i can do to fix this especially since i have not done a lot of burning or movie watching. the machine is a G5 dual 2.0 and the drive is a SONY DVD RW DW-Q28A. any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Try resetting your PRAM.
Insert a bootable disk and restart.
When there is the starting chime press the OPTION key: If your disk won't show up as bootable option it may be time for calling Apple.

  • Drive is not reading any discs on my Satellite A100-192

    Hi,
today i wanted to watch a dvd movie, i've inserted the disc into the drive and waited for an autostart to play...nut nothing happened.
Drive LED is on all the time and i can't access the drive in windows. I've tried with several original dvd discs and one blank cd /i've got nothing else in here/.
    What could cause this problem?
I've tried it in Windows XP and Vista Beta 2 :/
    Best regards,
    Krystian

    Hi
One question: Did you use the Toshiba recovery CD? If not, please check if this issue appears on the Toshiba image.
If you dont get any auto start messages after DVD inserting into the drive so I would firstly check the settings.
Please make a right click on to the drive icon. Then please select the AutoPlay tab.
There you can choose the dvd movie and select an action. Otherwise you can enable the option prompt me each time to choose an action
If this doesnt help so you can also try to remove the drive from the device manager. After this procedure please reboot the unit. The OS should recognize the drive again. Then try to play DVDs again

  • Blue ray drive not working all of a sudden and not reading any discs

I am using hp hdx 18 laptop which is a few years old and it was working fine until recently i found that the drive doesn't read discs anymore but the device manager shows it's fine and it tries to read by spinning and making noise and then stop
I tried to boot the machine from dvd in setup but it will just go straight to HDD bootup.
is it busted?  just wondering what I can do to see if there's anything I can do before getting an external drive
    thanks
    donald

It could have failed as suppected.  When you tried to boot to a DVD or Restore disk, did you remember to change the boot order to DVD/CD first device?
The drive is normally a replaceable device but an external device should work OK, too.

  • Hello, I have a 2009 iMac, and my harddrive has failed several times now, and now I need to re-install snow leopard but my install DVD is damaged and I have bought a new snow leopard disc. However my iMac will not read the disc at all ?

Hello, I have a 2009 iMac, and my harddrive has failed several times now.
I tired to reinstall snow leopard with the install DVD that came with my iMac. However the disc is damaged so I bought a new Snow Leopard but my iMac wont read the new disc, it just stays in the apple logo screen, I have tired safe boot, holding down the "C" key on startup and tried using disc utility but getting nowhere.
    Please help. Thanks.

Might be related, if your hard drive is a 1TB drive,it could be a Seagate drive.
The drives are known to fail and your iMac maybe covered for free replacement under the Apple's Seagate hard drive replacement program until April 12 of this year.
I Believe the 2009 models are covered under this replacement warranty.
You can find out if you are eligible here.

My optical drive will not read any music cds or recognize a blank cd. it might read some data cds. what is wrong with it and how can i fix it?

The optics might be dirty. Try running a cleaning CD through it and see if that makes a difference.
If not, it will have to be replace.

  • Recovery Disc Creator does not list any discs for creation

Brand new NB200-10G (this a UK model). When I run TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator it does not show any discs for creation and the CREATE option is greyed out so I cannot create the discs. Now... when I first got it I did not have a USB DVD writer with me but I ran RDC out of curiosity to see the devices it might offer. At that time it DID list discs to be created but I cancelled out. I get the impression the program thinks it has created the discs and I believe I read somewhere that it will not create the discs more than once. I think it must have set a switch in the registry or .ini files somewhere to indicate that the discs have been created. If so does anyone know how to "undo" this? Drive D (data) and hidden partition *appear* to be intact.
If this is not possible then I guess I could try the "press key 0 at power up" method to restore to original install setting and this might then enable me to create the discs but I'm concerned that if the restore fails in a destructive way that I might be left without a working PC. TIA Ken
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    OK all fixed!
Restore using key 0 at power up worked fine and cured the ToRDC problem. It then let me produce 2 copies of the restore DVD. Don't know what caused the problem... issue CLOSED.
