Still no highlight in iMovie?!

I've been asked to make a recruiting video of a friend's son's football season.
Is there really still no plug-in or easy option for highlighting a player on the field?
Perhaps there is a different Mac program that has this feature built in?

The only reverb effect that I know of is in Garageband '09 which has now a more intuitive UI like the the guitar amps and effects. The new Electric Guitar tracks allows you to change amps and settings of each amp with knobs for adjusting Gain, Bass, Mids, Treble, Presence, Master, Output, Reverb, Tremolo Rate, and Tremolo Depth.

  • Still images added to iMovie HD disappear when exporting

I have added a few still images to my iMovie HD movie project, using the Media/Photos tabs in iMovie. The images are JPEGs in my iPhoto library. I place the images in the timeline, but when I export the iMovie project to my video camera or to an MPEG file, the images disappear. Any suggestions welcome.

While you may get a better response regarding your camera export in the iMovie HD forum, I am intrigued by your loss converting to MPEG. Could you be more specific regarding your work flow for this process?

  • How do it change the color of the background in a still photo in a imovie picture slide show

how do it change the color of the background in a still photo in a imovie picture slide show

LOL - I had the same problem.  Hidden in plain sight!  All I saw was Numeric, and thought "Duh! Of course it's numeric - it's a slider!"
I do think NI could do a much better job on this, perhaps with more informative labelling.  Slider Scaling or Scale Format might be better.  Also, since one can select the Digital Display by itself on the front panel, one should be taken directly to the digital display formatting when Properties is selected, instead of still having to change the dropdown. By selecting the digital display instaead of the slider, you're implying that you want to change its format only.

You do not need the QuickTime MPEG2 disk image unless you want to convert some MPEG2 clips. For photos, you don't need it.
You can buy it from Apple at this link, but like I said, you should not need it.

  • Pics still poor quality in iMovie HD

Hi, Trying to help a photographer to make a still image slideshow in iMovie 4, I discovered the images were of such poor quality as to be unuseable. I upgraded to iLife thinking that iMovie HD might use better quality. It doesn't appear so. The photographer doesn't think the Ken Burns effect does anything to improve the visual degradation of his images. Is this simply the case, or is there any way around it?

iMovie doesn't preview well, you really need to go all the way through the process of creating what appears to be a crap DVD to discover that.
To make sure you're not misunderstanding...
The problem isn't just that iMovie HD doesn't display the image as well as it might. The poor-quality image on the DVD is a real problem, which occurs when the slideshow is handled in a way that allows iMovie to add "jaggies" to the image on the way out the door to iDVD. Search for "jaggies".

  • Still picture from an iMovie video

Can you get a still picture from an iMovie video and import it into iPhoto as a photo?

To save a still frame from recent versions of  iMovie 10.,  move playhead to frame that you want and select File - Share - Image.  Enter name and location.  I guess you can import the file into iPhoto from there (I don't use iPhoto myself).

  • Is it still possible to install iMovie HD?

I just recently started to really get into iMovie (I have '08 - 7.1.4) - In doing research, I've found that HD is supposed to be available to '08 users. I downloaded iMovie HD 6.0.3 from Apple's website, but have not yet installed it because I saw somewhere that 6.0.4 is for '08 users and that Apple doesn't offer it anymore. Can I still install 6.0.3? (I also saw somewhere that 6.0.3 & 6.0.4 were basically the same) Is there any tricks to it? I have seen some discussion of deleting '08 then reinstalling after HD installation. My Mac is working fine right now (knock-on-wood) and I really don't want to screw anything up!

iMovie 6 came as part of iLife 6 package. It is not available for stand-alone download as it was for a few months after iLife 8 came out and was bundled with some Macs. Apple offered iM6 as a free download for those who had only iMovie 8, no prior versions, but still wanted to have both iM8 and iM6. That download is no longer available. Do some checking....I think the iMovie 6.0.3 you have downloaded is an update to iM6. It is not the 'free' version. iMovie 6.0.4 was the free version, and is supposed to be the same version as 6.0.3, but some of us know that it is slightly different.
If you do find a copy of iM6, you can install it and have it usable right alongside iM8, but you may have to remove iM8 first, and then reinstall it after you install iM6. I know you have to do this with iLife 9, but I don't remember if you need to for iM8.
If you install an earlier version of iM6, you can then use your download to update it to v 6.0.3.

  • Shaky still images in burned iMovie/iDVD project

Hello all, I've stopped by the discussion forums in the past for quick fixes to problems when they come up, this is my first post though that doesn't seem to address anything I've found on here...
I am working on a project that takes scanned pictures from regular print photos into iMovie 6 and then burned into iDVD 6. I have done this similar style of work several times and never run into this problem. The project looks fine in both iMovie and iDVD preview, and burns fine to disc. As soon as it is popped into a DVD player, some of the still images flash and shake around, it appears to happen on the same images every time.
The original project used about 100 photos, around 12 minutes of movie time. It uses only still pictures and there are cross dissolve transitions between each one. I have tried dragging and dropping the iMovie project into iDVD instead of using 'share'. I also saved as a disk image and burned slowly (4x) not only on my SuperDrive but on an external LaCie drive. I've even started a brand new project file, imported the pictures again from iPhoto and everything... still no luck. I've done about 5 trials now with these different settings, no luck. I use Verbatim DVD-r disks as well...
I've even tried scanning a few images and replacing them, thinking the file might be corrupted, but this isn't fixing the problem. Is there some setting that I'm missing or any other suggestions you have?
I'm trying to save a trip down to see a genius, but if I can't get any help I'll have no choice but to make the 3 hour drive to the nearest apple store. Hopefully someone has some suggestions! Thanks!

    Hi
    A. I don't use the *Share/Export to iDVD* function in iMovie. iMovie rendering can harm
    the photos in a movie.
I do: close iMovie, Open iDVD and import the movie project here (icon with a Star on it)
or just drop the icon into iDVD.
    B. Some photos with thin lines most often starts to flicker when viewed on a TV.
I do: In a photo editing program eg PhotoShop or Elements: Apply *Gausian blurr*.
Just slightly. Resulting in non-flickering photos.
    C. One can rather easily find out if this will occure by:
    • Connect Your miniDV (tape) Camera via FireWire.
    • Analog out of Camera to a TV-set
    • Set in iMovie. Playback via Camera
Now You see on the TV what the final Quality will be like.
    • Flicker (add Gausian Blurr to those photos)
    • Color, brightness & contrast
    • Over all playback rythm and sound

  • "Still" photo quality in iMovie & iDVD

I work with still photographs only. Trying to produce a slideshow DVD that maintains the original quality of the photo. After reading some postings on iMovie & this problem, I took the advice of several photographers & now use FotoMagico. Photo qulaity is execellent as images are not coverted to video as they are in iMovie. Program also allows the transitions & Ken Burns effects available in iMovie. To produce DVD, you must export to iDVD or Roxio Toast to burn DVD. After export to iDVD the images degraded - both on the screen & on the burned DVD & hen played on screen or HD TV. I don't have Roxio Toast. Does Roxio maintain the photo file or covert to video image? Can someone tell me what it will take to produce a DVD from Still photographs that will maintain image quality & offer transitions & title slides?

Have you a set prescription that you use when beginning the Burn to Disc from iDVD. That's where my problem is.
Please read the following and send help soon . . . potis
"My rendering is from iPhoto to FotoMagico. There the album is assembled with all of FoMo's attributes. I find it very user friendly. The blurring of a photo in iPhoto with the Blur adjustment does blur alright and it my instances I get a perceptible lightening of the image. Useable, but not the original. —Cut to the finish. Beautiful rendering in FoMo, so sent to iDVD the 130 photos and music. Beautiful in iMac playback in iDVD. Cannot complain a wink. Burn disc. Play disc, and there are the jaggies on the two buildings, one a church with lots of green and white marble on the facade, the other the Ponte Vechicco shimmering as in a desert as the zoom moves out. The jaggies appear on any horizontal or vertical shape, especially buildings (as noted elsewhere in this forum).
My logic says that if the project plays very well in iDVD and wavers in a DVD burnt from iDVD, that the wavies are introduced in the burn process. I tried recording at Slideshow settings of HD 720p as suggested. No help there.
Another suggestion has been that the digital cameras are ahead of the iMac Dual Core capabilities. I don't know about that. My Pentax SLR does load them in.
For the moment I am eliminating the two dramatic zooms because they are distracting and waiting for a solution which will have to take form outside of my meager experience.
    Thanks muchas for your reply.

  • Optimal Size of still photo's in iMovie 11

I'm using iMovie 11, Aperture 3, & OS 10.6.7 and have two questions:
    1. What is the best image size to use for my still-images in iMovie 11. I have all my still-images in Aperture in RAW format and will export them, but unsure how large to create the jpg's.
    2. Additionally, iMovie only seems to search for still-images in either Aperture or iPhoto. I cannot find anything in Preferences that will point to a folder where these jpg's can be stored outside of these app's. My understanding is also that to create jpg's from RAW in Aperture, you have to export outside of Aperture and then import back into Aperture. Does Aperture 3 have any in app feature that will do this (this questions should probably posted with Aperture discussion!).
    Thanks for your help.

Current solution to my inquiry after a session consulting with the Apple Store Genuis is that I settled on allowing iMovie 11 to reference the RAW pictures from my Aperture folders. iMovie will convert the RAW files to what seems is its default, therefore my 8MB RAW images seem to be converted to 300 to 400 kb size.

  • Unnerving problem: I cannot reliably save the time I want a still to show (in iMovie '11/v. 9.0.4/build 1634). Has anyone found a way to get around this bug?

My problem comes up in iMovie ’11 (v. 9.0.4/build 1634) and has done so from the beginning of my using the software.
I want to determine the length of time that I want a a still to show (in the context of stills and movie clips). However, I cannot reliably save the still’s length of time showing.
That applies to all stills: I doesn’t matter if I change the length of time individually for each still or check the box for »all clips«.
This looks like a veritable bug, doesn’t it? Has anyone found a way to get around it?

I assume you are using transitions. This is not a bug - it is how iMovie handles transitions.
There are two settings for transition overlap - full and half. If you are using photos only, you may get the results you want by setting transition overlap to half.
For full details, see iMovie Help here on Transition Overlap.
