How do I export a still pic (or freeze frame) from my movie to my desktop for use in another project

Still photo from movie

I have been trying to figure out how to get a still photo from a movie clip. Is there anyway to take a still from the imovie video? I thought I could just drag and drop it on desktop but that isn't allowed. Any advice if this can be done. I do not want to use the still in part of the movie, I just want a still from the movie to use as a picture I can print out. Thanks for help.

Making still picture from movie

I made a still picture from my movie. (which you can do in the old iMovie) but it won't let me drag it into iMovie08. The still picture shows up as a mp4. Is there a way to convert to jpeg? How can I make a picture out of a movie and have it work in iMovie 08? Thanks

You can, of course, convert an MP4 frame to a JPEG compressed PICT image file using any application have access to the QT conversion structure. But wouldn't it be easier to just create/copy a JPEG image from within iMovie '08?
1) Select the frame you want in the event window and move it to any iMovie '08 project using the "Add Still Frame to Project" context menu option.
2) Highlight the "still frame" segment now in the project window and select the "Reveal in Finder" context menu option.
3) Move/use the "revealed" JPEG image files as needed/desired or open it in the "Preview" application to save it in another image compression format to any "visible" drive location.

Can't Sync Videos/Pics From Phone To Desktop-Treo 700p (Verizon)

When I do a hotsync it doesn't seem to back up my videos and pics from my phone to my desktop. On my Palm Desktop software there is no option on the left side to choose "media". I've looked through the help forums and troubleshooting etc. but to no use. It says the pics/videos are backed up in the "my files/my videos" folder on my desktop but they are not there. Additonally the log seems to indicate they are not being backed up.
My Palm Desktop Software version is the 4.1.4 Do I need another version that has the option to back up my videos?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! I've searched online for the CD, but I've only found installation CD's for Palm Desktop for the Treo 650p, not the 700p. Will that make a difference? If I buy the CD for the 650p will that work w/ the 700p?

Create still photo from movie

I'm obviously missing something very basic... I'd like to capture a still shot from a movie. Isn't there a simple way to do that? Thanks.

Two ways to get a still:
1) In project, move cursor to the frame. Right-click/add freeze frame. The Freeze frame is placed right behind the current clip in the project.
2) Select a frame in an Event. Right-click/Add still frame to project. The still is added to the project at the end.
(after doing either 1 or 2, continue with step 3)
3) Right-click on the still frame in your project. Select "Reveal in Finder". Drag the JPEG file that you see and drop it on the iPhoto icon in the Dock.
Hint: You can create a new project just for the stills. This way you will not clutter up an existing project.

How do I save a jpeg from a movie... I saw about clicking it and then going to finder... but its a dv file not a jpeg

What I do sometimes is just take a screen shot of the video.
I use Grab, it's in the Utilities folder in the Application Folder
Go to Menu - Capture - selection - save it and drag it into iM.

Import still pics from video camera into iphoto with firewire?

I have a new panasonic pv-gs250. Although it is PC based, I was able to bypass their software and use imovie by attaching a 4 to 6 firewire to the dv port. It imported the movieclips with no problem. When I changed the mode on the camera from replay movie mode, to view pics mode (it can take stills on an sd card), it said that there was no cable connected. I tried using iphoto and importing from there, but it says there's not cable connected. There has to be a simple solution to this! Please help. thanks.

So, just to be sure, I used the USB cord and opened iphoto. Briefly, under sources, it said it was reading the Panasonic. I got up and when I came back, the Panasonic source was gone, and it said I couldn't close the window because it was importing files. Nothing new has shown up in the library yet. I also don't see anything counting down the loading, or importing. Do you think it's working, but just slow? Or is it having a hard time adjusting to the non-mac compatible thing, and it can't be done? thanks.

Still frames from movies

I have CS4 master I need to take one frame from my movie to make menus and DVD covers can someone tell how to do this step by step. operating system is vista

Welcome to the forum.
Which version of CS4 do you have? The reason that I ask is that the Export Frame procedure was changed a bit in early CS4, and then back to similar to earlier versions, for CS4.2.
You can use AME to Export the still, and I would choose TIFF for this. IIRC, CS4.2 moved that function back to the File>Export menu, where it used to reside Check the PAR, if you have a DVD Project too, to make sure that you have your Standard 4:3 PAR, or the Widescreen 16:9 PAR. In PS, just Open the TIFF (check the PAR there in Image>Pixel Aspect Ratio), and when done, Save_As a PSD. Depending on what you are doing with the Menu construction, you can Import that PSD as a Menu in Encore.

Where are my uploaded pics from Itouch to desktop ?

I uploaded my pictures from my Itouch and cannot seem to find them on my desktop ! Can't figure out where they were downloaded.
I know they were downloaded fine as I remember looking at them at that point !
Any thoughts ?

It all depends how you set up the Camera/Image capture program. Where did you specify they be downloaded to?
Usually there is a setting/preference that specifies where they go. Sometimes the program will make a new folder for each import.

Transferring pics from Macbook to desktop wirelessly

Is there an app or a way to do this that I can't seem to find ?
I use my Macbook Pro for editing and my older desktop to store and interface with my Apple TV.

After transferring about 7 pics to a desktop folder, the last pic kept duplicating even when I highlighted another pic. I can't delete or move any pics from folder. I can not drag a new pic into folder.

Can not drag a pic from aperture onto desktop folder. was able to drag 7 but number 8 was a duplicate of 7. Can not delete any pics from desktop folder

If you want to get rid of your original photo files and leave them in iPhoto, thus freeing up much hard drive space, you can use these commands in Terminal:
mkdir ~/.Trash/iPhoto-Originals
cd ~/"Pictures/iPhoto Library/Modified/"
find . -type f -exec mv "../Originals/{}" ~/.Trash/iPhoto-Originals/ \;
Type these commands carefully and it should work!

Are you working in iMovie and realize that certain frames in the movie would be perfect as photographs? Here is how to extract them...
*To get a still frame from an Event*, right-click on the frame and select "Add Still Frame to Project". The still will be added to the end of the current project. Right click on the still frame in the project and select "Reveal in Finder". You will see a jpeg file that is highlighted. Drag this jpeg file in the finder to the iPhoto icon on your dock.
*If you want a still from a project*, rather than an event, the process is similar, except you right-click on the frame and select "Add Freeze Frame", and it adds the freeze frame at the end of the clip rather than at the end of the project. Right-click/reveal in Finder, drag JPEG to iPhoto icon in dock.
*If you are not using iPhoto*, and just want to save to your desktop, click Reveal in Finder as above, then COPY, then PASTE to desktop.
Hint: If you do not want to clutter up your iMovie Project with stills at the end that you would have to go back and delete, then create a separate iMovie Project just for your stills, and follow the instructions for capturing stills from an Event.
Note: If you do not have a right mouse button, then control-click will work instead of right-click.

First, click iMovie/About and see which version you have.
Versoon 9.0.2 would be iMovie 11.

Why does Quicktime tell me it can't play certain videos created with my Phantom 2 v3 drone ? I fly the drone and switch back and forth from video to still pics and while I may have filmed four videos , sometimes Quicktime tells me that one of them can't be played . Checking the info shows that each of the unplayed videos was saved in the same mp4 format as the playable ones yet some of my most important videos won't play . It's getting very frustrating .

first; I use Perian, that helps even though it is no longer supported, (must have for avi files)
the apple-cores at apple have gotten very sloppy -- quicktime is a bit finicky and flakey.
example,   occasionally (when copy file from quad's card to hard drive) the avi will show up as a 'mov' file and qt plays it no problem and no conversion.
but that is very occasionally, most of the time qt won't convert the file,   -- iMovie won't open an avi without Perian installed , I don't know how that effects qt.
qt 7"pro" is no good either, (qt 10 does everything it does and for NOT the extra $35)
I have gone to VLC and MPlayerX for direct playback for drones and cameras.
