Still pictures enlarging themselves

Okay, I've done pretty well getting to know PrPro. I've got my first one minute video just about done...however, several of the still pictures I've included in the video are blowing themselves up. They look perfectly fine in the source monitor, but when they play back, it is almost like somebody has zoomed in on them. I've tried to find a way to fix this, but am coming up empty...any thoughts?

I know how you feel. I'm always glad when Craig has responded early in my day, as I can then go play golf - 'cause I've learned my "new thing" for that day!!!
Now, if I could just get him to embrace Photoshop...

Why do my still pictures blur when they are enlarged or moved across the screen?

If they look ok in pause they should be fine.
The computer may not be quite keeping up in playback.

  • Enlarging still pictures

I have added some still pictures as a slide show.  With some of these old pictures (not digital) I've cropped them to remove people who I did not want in the picture.  My picture is now pretty small when I watch my completed video on my TV.  Some of the pictures are all the way to right of the TV screen and some to the left.  Is there a way I can edit these pictures to be centered and larger with the CS4 pro editing while they are in my timeline?

If you are using PrPro CS4, you are in the wrong forum. PrPro CS4's forum is HERE.
However, for what you want, I would do all image editing in Photoshop, as it offers so very much more control.
Not knowing how you plan on delivering this video, I'll just assume NTSC DVD so we have something to work with for this example. That would be a 720 x 480 pixel Frame Size. In Photoshop, do your Cropping, and finally Scale (Image>Image Size) to about 720 x 480. If you wish to Pan on a Zoomed out image, then go up to 1000 x 750 pixels. I would Save_As PSD from Photoshop.
This will get you material that will come very close to fitting your video's Frame Size. If necessary, you could do one of two things: you could choose to enable Scale to Frame Size, or you could Keyframe the fixed Effect>Motion>Scale, and perhaps Motion>Position if necessary. That is also how one animates still images in video, a la the Ken Burns Effect.
    Hope that this helps.
Now, if you have verticals and horizontals, you will be putting these into a horizontal video. This TUTORIAL might give you ideas on how to handle the Aspect Ratio differences.
    Good luck,

  • Still Pictures in imovie are messed up

I am almost ready to publish my imovie of still pictures. However when I preview the imovie the stills in the viewer do not match up to the stills under the curser? Some of the pictures never show up at all. Any advice would be helpful.

I notice that you have not had the question answered as yet. I have the same sort of problem. What's shown in the viewer doesn't match what is showing in the preview screen.
It was all going fine until I added in just one more transition and then it seemed to all get messed up.
I'm using iMovie 08, I have about 620 still slides and two short (15 sec and 49 sec video clips). I have not yet added audio. And I have had this problem three times. Each time I have gone back to the start and redone the project. Each time the playback seems to be disengaged from the thumbnails and I get hundreds of edited thumbnails added at the end of the project (though the thumbnail shows as the one slide repeated hundreds of times).
Actually, the first few slides run true but then a slide is missing from the viewer (the thumbnails) yet it's showing correctly on the right hand pre-view screen. I've tried the obvious things like deleting the transition, deleting the slide where the problem first seems to occur but tht does not fix it.
I also seem to have another mess at the end of my project where all the slides that I have edited (eg the Ken Burns effect) have some how inserted themselves. But they show up in the thumbnails as the one slide repeated many times. Yet when I run the cursor over them the edited, original, slide is shown in the preview screen.
And one final observation. When I run the project in full screen playback it seems to run as I originally wanted it to....except that I can no longer edit it.
    Any suggestions from anybody?

  • I want to make a video clip using two still pictures, placing side by side.  I am able to make with only one at a time.

I want to make a video clip using two still pictures, placing side by side.  I am able to make with only one at a time.  Also, I am able to move the picture using Transform.  But unsuccessfull in making with two stills in same clip.  Thank you for reply.

If you want a Picture in Picture effect, stack one still on top of the other with a connect edit. Use Transform to scale and reposition the top image.

Is there a way to add transitions to several still pictures without doing them one at a time

You don't say which version of the program you're using but, in version 10, if you select several media clips on the timeline at once, you can right-click and select the option to Add Default Transition between them all. (You can also designate any transition as the Default Transition.)
You can also use the Slideshow Creator in the Media panel to apply the Default Transition between any stills you've gathered to create a slideshow from.
And, if you create your slideshow in the Elements Organizer (prior to sending it to Premiere Elements), you can select the option to add random transitions between your slides.
You can learn how to do all of these thing step by step in my books, by the way, if you're interested.

  • Still picture from a .mov clip

    Hello,
the last update brings the capability of making still pictures. When i am making a still picture from a movie-file (.mov, .mpeg, .mp4) comressed with h264, the still picture is not shown correctly in the viewer.
But when making a still photo from an .avi, the photo is displayed in the viewer.
    Thanks for help,

.. unfortunately not, because I can not recreate here your 'effect'.. your file works flawless within my iM08 vers.7.1., QT 7.2.0/7.2 , the still looks charming, no distortions, Mr Bublath in his all beauty ( ? ) ..
funny enough: I do have perian and many plug-ins installed, which are known here for making trouble, and my system works like charm.. as 99.8% of 'trouble' posted in this board don't happen to me..
here's a last and desperate advice:
how much free disk space is on your internal harddrve?
in case, you did partition it: on System Partition?
    should be never below 10-15GB..

  • Why is the camera such poor quality to take still pictures.

I have been trying other a
Apps to see if the quality of the still shots can get better.
No such luck. It just looks like a grainy picture.
Is there anything that can make this take good still pictures?
Especially for the price you pay for one of these things?

Yes I must admit the camera on the Iphone is very good.
Yes the Ipad is well bait big to hold in the palm of your hand so to speak.
But it would be nice to be able to take a quick snap if a picture becomes apparent.
It would have been nice to have the Iphone camera in the Ipad2.
Oh well just have to be disappointed about this feature.
Question to any one. Is there an app that allows you to take a picture from a movie you made on the Ipad2 at all?
As the camera picture is clear enough for me when I pause it.
    Thanks

  • Still pictures lose resolution when transition added?

i'm making a slideshow in FCP using still pictures. when i add a disolve, or key frame a crossfade between two pictures the pictures lose their sharpness/resolution. the last frame before the dissolve ends the picture remains sharp, but as soon as the picture comes up by itself it drops to a lower quality. i hope that makes sense.
the problem only occurs on some of the pictures i scanned, but not all that were scanned (problem doesn't occur with pictures that came straight from a digital file (i.e. a memory card/camera). i scanned the pictures with a resolution setting of 200.
any ideas with what i'm doing wrong? any thoughts, criticisms, are greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance!

the clips exhibit the problem both rendered, unrendered, and exported.
    thanks for responding nick!
oh, and i like where you're from nick, but i couldn't find the answer when i consulted it.

  • Cannot Export JPEG still picture from MPEG

I am trying to use Quicktime Pro 7.1.3 to export a still picture (in JPEG format) from an MPEG video, but this is not working. I followed the directions in the QTPro User Guide: I play and then pause the video once it reaches the desired frame. Then I select FILE->EXPORT and in the "Export" selection box, I select "Movie to Picture". Then I click on the "Options" button, and select the Compression Type of "Photo - JPEG". I must say I am puzzled as to why I then see a ".PCT" extension added to the filename. Also, I don't understand why, in the "Save as" selection field, there is no selection for "JPEG" file extension, and instead there is but a single type available which is called "All Files (.)". It makes me think I am not understanding how to use this function. After I click on the "Save" button, a small popup windows appears, and it shows that a file is written. When I try to open that file (on my local hard drive) with my Firefox browser, I get a plain text message in my Firefox screen which merely names the file. I also tried specifying other compression formats under "Export to Picture", and also tried using Firefox and other programs to open the files written by this Export operation, all without success.
If I use s different Export operation (Export to BMP instead of Export to Picture), I can get a usable BMP, and I can use another tool to convert this BMP to a JPEG, but the resulting JPEG is only a little over 30k in size, and I believe I am getting a lot lower picture quality than what I might get if QTP could directly Export to a JPEG.
Here is some info on my environment: I am running Windows XP Home Edition with SP2. Hardware is a Dell Pentium 4 with 2.8GHz cpu, 512MB ram, and over 50GB of free space on the hard drive. I just installed QuickTime Pro 7.1.3 today (and I have already tried de-installing it, and re-installing it, and this did not help).
Am I mis-understanding the instructions in the User Guide? Can anyone suggest how I can get QTP to Export a still image from an MPEG video directly to a JPEG file? Thanks!

QT Pro does not export to jpeg or other image formats. Instead, the picture export (Movie to Picture) creates a PICT format file which contains the frame in the specified compression inside the PICT file. PICT is thus a container file format which can contain image in many different compression formats. If you need an actual jpeg format file you will have to export to one of the uncompressed formats and then use some other graphic utility to convert that file to jpeg format.
Alternately, you can use QT Pro to Copy (Edit menu) the frame to the clip board and then a graphic application to import that frame from the clip board and export it in jpeg format.

  • Having read how one might be able to send a video that is too large, it seems that those videos and still pictures that are sent, well at least for me anyway, end up 90 degrees to the horizontal...how do i send a pic, or video that is the right way up???.

my question relates to the orientation of the videos, and still pictures that are sent via the ipad2...they always seem to be 90 degrees to the horizontal...can anyone suggest how to send them so that they will be the right way up???

  • Premiere Elements 8 - Still pictures in PE are blurred compared to original

My system is Intel Q6600 CPU, Windows 7 64bit, 6GB memory, 1TB C: drive, 2TB E:drive, NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 video card, Premiere Elements 8, using Microsoft Office Picture manager to look at still originals.
The Premiere Elements 8 project settings include editing mode = DVNTSC and Frame size = 720H x 480V.
My issue is the still picture in PE is blurry compared to the picture viewed in MS Picture Manager.  The pictures are either scanned or downloaded from web pages.  Here is a list of pictures with their file size and pixels count:
Scaned Pics not as good in PE as original
    Cecil about 1921 - 1.5KB - 954x1440 pixels
    Stephson & Nancy Shirey - 147KB - 480x720 pixels
    Cecil about 1927 - 678KB - 768x870 pixels
    Cecil about 1928 - 736KB - 696x948 pixels
    Cecil 193X - 1MB - 1044x1608 pixels
    Ceceil HS basketball team - 2.4MB - 2070x1416 pixels
    Cecil 1941 at gas station - 250KB - 924x1482 pixels
    Cecil Marian 1942 gas station - 336KB - 1092x1746
    pixels
Web Pics not as good in PE as download
    Cotton_field 1928 - 372KB - 1600x960 pixels
    Cotton plant 17KB - minor degrade - 350x304 pixels
    Turner School 1919 - 22KB - 450x275 pixels
    Douglas Aircraft Front - 299KB - 720x587 pixels
I burned a trial DVD to see if the picture quality would be better after processing onto DVD but it was not.
What can I do to improve PE picture quality?

Use Photoshop or Photoshop Elements to scale the pictures before you import into PreElements
    Photo Scaling for Video http://forums.adobe.com/thread/450798
Also, do be aware that photo dpi (dots per inch) does NOT translate to video... I don't have the exact number handy, but I think a DVD resolution video is "about" 72 dpi (BluRay is higher, but since I don't do BluRay I have not even a guess at picture resolution)

  • Improving still picture quality

I am doing a ski video that includes many still pictures of snowy mountain tops and trees. I was wondering if one of FCE's regular filters could prevent the flickering effect caused by the snow on the trees. This is only visible on a tv screen.
    Thanks

    Try the Flicker filter.

  • Still picture head on a moving body...How do I create this effect in FC

I saw this funny clip of a still picture of a politician's head that was placed on a moving body of a bullfighter...I have taken the layer of the head of my subject and placed in final cut and motion but I am still getting the picture of my subject with a black box around it....my question how do I eliminate the black box (I am using adobe photoshop 4.0 to extract the head of my subject)

Your head cutout must beon a transparent background, flattened when saved out of PS and the imported image must have a properly-interpretted alpha.
