Still possible to have consolidated Library view in iTunes 11 ?

Hi,
In prior versions, it was possible to view a "Library" view which would include all media (Music, Movies, Podcasts, etc) by following these commands? I don't want to screw anything up !
This is taken from an article appearing in MacWorld, which I have used safely in the past.
Quit iTunes if it’s running, open Terminal (in Applications -> Utilities), and enter these two commands (the $ is just the prompt; don’t type that), pressing Return after each:
$ defaults write com.apple.iTunes show-library-playlist -bool TRUE
$ defaults write com.apple.iTunes hide-library-playlist -bool FALSE
Note that the second command may not be required—on one of my machines, this trick worked after only running the first command. On a second machine, however, I had to use both commands.
Now restart iTunes, and notice the new Library entry in the Library section of the iTunes side panel. Click on it, and you’ll see that it contains absolutely everything—music, TV shows, movies, podcasts, etc.—in iTunes.

Sorry, thanks for your reply, but you missed the point.
The commands allowed a consolidated view named "Library" which sat at the top of the Library list above Music.
It contained ALL of the media, not matter which catagory it was filed under. Very helpful for organizing, etc.
This was actually a hidden preference in iTunes, hence the abiltiy to make it appear via the terminal command.

  • Is it possible to have one library used between two users?

Hello, I am setting up a friend's computer to have a seperate user for him and for his wife. The computer has been in use for about a year with just one user. Adding the second one makes sense for everything they use the computer for--except iPhoto. They have roughly 11,000 images in the library and want to be able to access, edit, export, etc them from whichever user is logged on. They would like it to work so that when one user adds images to the library, the other user has access to them as well. I looked into the sharing photos option, but it seems to restrict you to read only access when viewing shared libraries. Any suggestions on the best option for them? They are using a dual G5 Tower running iPhoto 5.0.4

    Hey,
    saw this in macworld:
(I haven't tried this, but it does indicate that permissions include read and write)
    Family Album
My son and I share an iMac at home. Is there a way for us to use the same iPhoto library?—Kiki Mulliner
With the proper privileges, this can be done with aliases. It works this way:
Choose the most up-to-date iPhoto Library folder (located at your user folder/Pictures) and move it to the Shared folder inside the Users folder at the root level of the hard drive. Click on the iPhoto Library folder, press Command-I to call up the iPhoto Library Info window, click on the Ownership & Permissions triangle, and then click on the Details triangle below. Select Read & Write from the Access pop-up menu directly beneath the Group pop-up menu, select Read & Write from the Others pop-up menu, and then close the Info window. Hold down the Command and option keys and drag the iPhoto Library folder back to the Pictures folder to create an alias.
Switch to your son’s user account, change the name of his iPhoto Library to something like iPhoto Library Old (in case you want to use this library again), open the Shared folder within the Users folder, and Command-option-drag that folder’s iPhoto Library folder to your son’s Pictures folder to create an alias.

  • Is it possible to have the "single view" (Einzelseite) as the default view in the preview.app?

The single view is the only setting I need and I find it cumbersome to dig inside menues for every single document. It would be great if there was an option or maybe a property that can be set.
    Thanks!

And another comment: The save trick does not work for documents you cannot write. For instance I have a latex documentation on my machine and I cannot save these documents since they belong to root. So it would be great to make this configurable for the user.
    Thanks!

  • Is it still possible to have the option to "open" a file when downloading it instead of saving it to the downloads folder?

The question pretty much says it all: the old versions of Firefox used to allow you to select "open" when downloading a file instead of saving it to a directory. I am fully aware that that's what selecting "open" does anyway, but I still like that option. Is it still available? That's one of my major irritations with Chrome, which I am considering switching from since Firefox 4 is faster.

You can do that with the OpenDownload² add-on - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/opendownload-10902

  • Itunes 11: is it possible to have your artist viewed as a grid instead of a list?

    hi,
i just downloaded the new itunes 11
and im liking it very much, runs smoother looks better, easier acces,...
all looks fine but im fondering if can change something about the appearance, view...
id like to change  the appearance from artist to a grid instead of a list (like albums)
ive noticed it is posible to change it in playlist and stuff like that, but i dont find the button for artist
    thank you in advance
    this is what i mean
    album
    artist

Some progress on second idea. Saved a copy of universal access plist with cursor set to large then set the cursor to small again. Replacing the plist file had no effect until I went into the UA pane and changed a setting at which point it must rewrite the file and refresh because the cursor size also changed at this point.
Tried the same again and restarted Finder, no effect. Also tried altering another pref pane instead with no effect. Need a way to force the computer to look at the plist files, no idea how though. :-)

  • Is it possible to have diffrent sync-profiles in Itunes

As the question in the topic.
Can i have 2 diffrent sync profiles in Itunes.
Why i wounder is because i dont wont 2 sync the same apps
with my Iphone4 and my Ipad.
    //Hoffan

I use an iMac 21" to sync both my iPhone 4 (iOS 4) and iPad (latest iOS) . My problem is that the universal apps that I only use on my iPhone sync to my iPad also. I have to unchecked the apps I don't want before syncing my iPad. I thought that the iPad and iPhone had different profiles. How do I set up separate profiles for each so I don't have to set up the iPad and iPhone each time I sync?

  • "Library" view does not show ALL photos

My "Library" view is not showing me the last 2 rolls I imported. If I click on the specific year views, I can see the photos, but I expect all photos are displayed in the "Library" view.
While still running iPhoto 5, I imported a roll of images from disk that included photos taken at the end of Dec 2005 and in Jan 2006. These are the photos that do not show in the "Library" view. This was happening with iPhoto 5 and is still happening with iPhoto 6.
Any suggestions for getting all photos to shwo in the "Library" view ?
    Thanks,
    Eliot

Thanks -- I figured out my problem...
Since iPhoto now seems to group items into "rolls", I had imported images from several different dates. The first image was from Sep'05, so it placed ALL the images imported, even those from Jan'06, with the Sep'05 photo in the middle of of my "Library" view.
Is there a way to have the "Library" view sort in date order instead of by imported roll ?
    Thanks,
    Eliot

  • Removing iTunes similar items from Library view

The information that appears in the library view of itunes from ITMS is anoying & limits the amount of lines that are visible from the Library. Is there anyway to stop that informayion from appearing or at least is there annyway to limit the amount of screen space that tha information takes?
    Ted

    Hi Ted,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Not quite sure what you are referring to - the column views can be changed in the view menu.
Is it the Browser - you can show and hide this on the view menu.
Is it the MiniStore - again toggle on or off with the view menu.
    Regards,
    Colin R.

  • HT1918 is it possible to have two different password within one iTunes account?  one to log in with and a different one to use when making a purchase?

Is is possible to have two different passwords within itunes? one to log in with and a different one to make purchases with?

The system is not setup to provide that kind of sservice.  If making certain purchases it does ask for an answer to one of your security questions, so that provides a little more security for some purchases, just not all.

  • Can i Have Two Libraies on One iTunes?

My dad and I are now owners of iPods, but we have different tastes in music and was wondering whether it is possible to have two different libraries in iTunes so that we can only put our own music on our separate iPods.

You could also use one library and set up your iPods to update songs and playlists manually. Just remember that with manual updates you need to manually eject the iPod each time.

  • Why does iTunes delete my library every time I turn my computer on? All my music is still on my computer but when I open iTunes it comes up with the scan media page. I have to redo my playlists and it takes forever. Can someone help??

Every time I turn my computer on and open iTunes all my music is gone, if comes up with the scan media page, all my playlists have been deleted. All my music is still on the computer and in the files. I don't know why it keeps doing this, it's really annoying as I have loads of music and then have to do my playlists again just to sync my phone. Can someone please help??

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be copied and renamed asiTunes Library.itl to restore the library to an earlier state. Look for a recent .tmp file that is similar in size to the .itl files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. If it has happened repeatedly you may want the earliest such file generated since the last iTunes upgrade.
If applicable, see iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. Even if you have the media you can use selected steps from the tip to ensure that you don't lose settings and data from the device as a result of switching libraries.
A large number of users with this issue have been using AVG Anti-Virus which appears to be implicated in the problem. AVG have released a patch which might help, so if you use AVG then I would update that first. I'd also be interested to know which AV you use in case others may cause similar issues. I recommend excluding the iTunes folder from any real-time and scheduled AV scanning process. Another possible cause could be automatic backup tools.

  • Still possible to share folio with an iPad to view, without publishing?

    Hi,
Is it still possible to share a folio from the folio builder panel in InDesign, so that it can be downloaded to one device (iPad) for viewing/testing or is this info out of date? Do I really have to go through all the IOS developer certs and purchasing one single serial number hoopla just to view on a single iPad?
    Any info gratefully appreciated.
    Thanks.

What would lead you to believe that this has changed?

  • I have a MAC and when i look things up it keeps asking me to install latest adobe flash [layer. I complete installation but it still does not allow me to view. What am I doing wrong?

I have a desktop computer- MAC. When I am looking for information or pulling up games for my grandkids,  it will say I need to download the latest version of dobe Flash Player to view. I have downloaded this numerous times yet it still does not allow me to view. What am I doing wrong?

Could be the OS X version is too old for the later recommended Flash player version.
So this is where knowing what your computer really is, and the exact OS X version running in it. There is a hardware limit to upgrading the OS X in a PowerPC Mac with a ceiling of OS X 10.5.8 at the latest. This also limits the upgrade to a later version Adobe Flash player.
If the computer is not an older PPC-based Mac, and instead has an Intel core-duo or core2duo, an upgrade to OS X 10.6.8 is possible through purchase of the retail Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD and after installation, run Software Update to get the 10.6.8 Combo update v1.1 for Snow Leopard. This will not work on a PowerPC based Mac.
Should the computer be able to run a later OS X, a newer Player could be installed.
If the ceiling as suggested above be the case, and the workaround possible.
The question posed by Klaus is a minimal request for basic info.
    Good luck

    Hey Two Wolves,
Thanks for the question. Yes, you can still add your own Album Artwork to music in iTunes:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Add artwork to songs and other items
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12361
Add artwork to music and video
    Do any of the following:
    - Add artwork to one item at a time:
              1. Select an item in your iTunes library and choose File > Get Info.
              2. Click Artwork and do one of the following:
                        - Click Add, select an image file, and click Open.
                        - Drag the art file to the artwork area.
              3. To add artwork to another item, click Next or Previous.
    - Add the same artwork to multiple items: Select the items, choose File > Get Info, click Info, and drag an image file to the Artwork area.
    - Retrieve album artwork for songs in your library from the iTunes Store: Control-click the songs and choose Get Album Artwork from the pop-up menu.
    Thanks,
