Still unable to Modify my Personal Web Site

Since the modification to Verizon's Website I can not Modify my Personal Web Site.
Pending repair since yesterday at 9:41 eastern time. Three service calls - supposedly this problem was pushed to the top of the Verizon Management team. Tried to check my repair ticket - may not exist? Anyone know anything?

I have the Same Problem. If i try to go to http://sitebuilder.verizon.net I am redirected to a generic Entertainment page: http://entertainment.verizon.com/?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pws If I click on any of Sitebuilder pages in my browser history i just get broken link errors. It is almost as if sitebuilder no longer exists.

IWeb and Comcast personal web site

Has anybody ever used iWeb to post web pages to a Comcast personal web site? I am impressed by what I can make with iWeb, but have completely failed when I try to use it with Comcast. Comcast suggests uploading files by ftp, but I can't find them on the Mac and the posting options in iWeb don't seem to work with Comcast. Any suggestions?

What version of iWeb are you using - iWeb 08 or iWeb 09?
If iWeb 09, then click on the site name on the left hand side and there is a drop down menu with all your publishing options - one of these is publish to MobileMe, then ftp to server and then publish to a local folder.
If you are using iWeb 08, then under file, there will be two options - one being to publish to MobileMe and the other to a local folder.
If you want to upload your files manually, then you would need to select publish to a local fodler and then use Cyberduck to upload your html and css files to Comcast. Cyberduck is a free and dedicated ftp programme.

I'd try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. You should look at the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes Extensions and Themes troubleshooting guide ] and the [[Troubleshooting plugins]] article as well.

Local Director unable to detect a failed web site

Hi all,
I have configured the local director to load balance several web sites on two real servers. One of these sites is required to be configured in backup mode.
For some reason the local director is unable to detect the site has gone down (by stopping the site to update the web content), therefore not directing requests to the backup real server.
I am using IIS 5.0, since its quite popular out there, has anyone experienced a similar situation and if so, how did you resolve it?

Your problem is based in the Operating system, not the Local Director. The LD is a layer 3 device. Microsoft put their application architecture together different from the Unix world, ie: Any ip address bound to a MS box is answered for by the OS - not the application (IIS in this case) If IIS is hosed up the OS will still answer for the IP you have bound to the NIC of the OS - the OS does not care at layer 3 that you want a higher level reply - LD does its availability checking at Layer 3 - the OS layer for MS. In the Unix world when an application is bound to a port - ie: Apache to port 80, then the apache deamon answers for that ip/port - not the OS - Apache panics and it will not respond at Layer 3 - the OS could be fine, but the LD will know that ip/port is not responding and will take the appropriate actions by your LD config.
Check out the httpprobe feature of the LD - it lets you test for a file in a URL inside the LD.

Personal web site not showing up.

Problem:
neither web sites appear when using 192.168.2.149 ip addresses.
blah, blah . . . so, after setting the Personal Web Sharing tab, the bottom tells me that I can access the computer web site via http://192.168.149 and my personal web page via http://192.168.2.149/~calbruin.
When opening the links, nothing shows up but the error saying that server is not found.
When I type 127.0.0.1, that gives the generic computer web page (found in Library/Webserver/Documents) alerting me that Apache is installed.
Question is, why does not the 192.168... address work and why not the personal Sites Folder accessible via 192.168....?

The only change was turning off and then turning on the Personal Web Sharing.
Most likely needs this...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Trash this file...
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist
reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Set up Sharing again.

Unable to start/stop Personal Web Sharing

I do some web development, so I tried making the necessary changes to run PHP files via localhost. I followed various online articles by making some changes to the httpd.conf file, and then downloading MySQL and a later version of PHP (5.0). Since installing yesterday afternoon, I've been unable to start or stop Personal Web Sharing. Any ideas?

Are you sure you got the proper version of each for your platform? Depending on which version you dowloaded it may not have been a universal bianary and you might be running ppc instead of x86 or vice versa. I wouldnt expect you to have broken apache if you made only the modifications you noted in your inital post - but perhaps if it was trying to load the php module and it was the worng platform it might through that error and prevent it fromt starting.. but normally whn php fails it jsut throws a warning and continues without it loaded (at least with Marc's automatic configuration). But thats the only thing i can think of.
So next steps:
1.) Verify you are running the x86/PPC (or Universal) versions of PHP and MySQL (MySQL shouldnt really matter but since its one of the majorchanges before apache broke we'll look at it as well).
2.) on the command line run this command and post the output back here:
<pre style="scrolling: auto; width: 90%;">httpd -V</pre>
3.) lets restore your old config:

sudo cp /etc/httpd/httpd.conf /etc/httpd/httpd.conf.121906.bak
sudo cp /etc/httpd/httpd.conf.default /etc/httpd/httpd.conf
sudo apachectl start</pre>
And then post the ouput of the start command back here.

How do I remove everything from my personal web site.

I am trying to clean out my basic web space to completely start from scratch. However, when I try to use the "Edit my web site" link, I can't seem to delete everything. I did manage to delete some of the photos but the web site is still published minus the photos. The text is still there. I am using ie 9 and I have the pop blocker turned off. Can someone help me with this?

The fastest way to completely clear it is probably through FTP, but there should also be an option on the SiteBuilder to just delete the whole site.
If you want to go the FTP route, just go to ftp://mysite.verizon.net and login when prompted with your Verizon username and password. This should bring you to a windows-explorer type view where you can just select files and delete them.

Unable to start up Personal Web Sharing (OS X 10.3.9)

I have been trying to start up Personal Web Sharing since yesterday. It keeps saying "Web Sharing starting up...", but nothing ever happens.
Actually, what I want to do is to set up a test server environment (not a real server for everyone on the web to access) to learn PHP, MySQL and XOOPS. I bought Teach Yourself PHP, MySQL and Apache by Julie C. Meloni (Sams Publishing) and installed MySQL 5.0.22 and PHP 5.1.4 following the instructions on the book. But I was not able to see anything when I entered http://localhost/phpinfo.php on FireFox. (The book tells me to create a simple script called phpinfo.php and save it to /Library/WebServer/Documents.)
I thought the problem might be that I didn't have Personal Web Sharing on, so I went to System Preferences' Sharing panel to start it up. But it just hangs in starting mode... never starts...
I tried Charles's suggestion to Harvey ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=680762&#680762 ). The /usr/sbin/apachectl configtest command returns the following result:

Syntax error on line 8 of /private/etc/httpd/users/+entropy-php.conf:

I'm wondering if PHP 5.x does not support Panther, but php.net doesn't seem to say so... (I downloaded PHP 4.4.4, but haven't figured out how to use it to replace PHP 5.1.4...) Or maybe it's because I'm connecting to the web via an open network (at a cafe)?
Any suggestions will be much appreciated!

Apache should start if it is properly configured (even with
no network, the loopback address 'localhost' is still available).

I still haven't been able to find out whether PHP 5.1.4 is compatible with Panther's Apache or not (couldn't even find which version of Apache Panther has...) But a guy from another Mac forum (www.oikos.com.tw) seems to be very certain that Entropy's PHP 5.x package is not compatible with Panther. I guess I will just take what he said. I've already sent my complaint to Sams Publishing.
I found "Building and Installing Apache 2.0.54 and PHP 5.0.4 on Mac OS X 10.3.8" on phpmac.com. But it seems quite risky for someone who does not have unix knowledge like me. So I guess what I should do is to find out how to remove the PHP 5.1.4 I installed and install PHP 4.x instead.
Still seeking for a solution... I guess I should start learning Unix too...

Unable to access a particular web site via FOS

This problem started a week or so ago. Using different computers (Windows or MAC) I am not able to access the web site www.vibeconference.com which is using IP Address 74.208.213.17 using any of several browsers, Explorer, Firefox, Safari. In addition, I am not able to ping the url or IP address, I just get timeouts.
All of the above occurs when I use a computer connected to my FIOS Service. I can access this url just fine using my Cell Phone which uses Verizon Wireless or my wife's using AT&T Wireless
I have tried using OpenDNS's DNS Servers, same problem. I am baffled by the fact that it only happens with this one web site (that I know of).
I have power cycled my router, checked its settings, no luck.
Any ideas?

OK, I figured out how to use a Free Web Proxy and am able to navigate to the web site. I am still baffled by what is causing the block but I guess that is the hosting companies issue or some issue between them and Verizon. I also left my router off overnight so that I would get a different IP address which I did. So it is not my particular IP address which is getting blocked but probably a range belonging to Verizon.

Problem just started unable to get on secure web site

Have had WRT54G 6 months no problems getting on my bank secure website. About 10 days ago explorer times out showe problem remote firewall blocking access. called bank called comcast hooked up to comcast without router could get on banks website. called linksys tried what they suggested my phone call was dropped in the middle think tech was stumped. help

1. Go to start>>run>>type: cmd, click ok. A command prompt will open and you will type: ipconfig /flushdns
2. Reboot the computer and now try to connect to the web site.
3. If you still can not connect to that website, turn-off your firewall and pop-up blockers, try to connect now.
4. If still no connection, do a power cycle:Try a power cycle by removing the power cord from the router, then remove the power cord from the modem, wait 60 seconds, plug back in the modem, then plug in the router, wait about 3 minutes for everything to sync up, and then try to access the web page.

IWeb 3.0.4 problem under Lion X: Why are my movies unable to play after publishing web-site?

No problems with the above running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Under Lion, I can place movies during the edit phase, set up quicktime to autoplay, and test it and it plays. After publishing the site, the movies do not play. Sometimes a note saying that "a plugin is not available" appears in the movie window. Could this be a Quicktime problem? The movies were placed in iWeb using iTunes from the Media Display and are .m4v files edited in iMovie. The web-site works on iMacs running 10.6.8, and on PC's. Any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks QTKirk. Tried the web site under firefox 5.0 and the movies played! Not sure about the DivX extension for Safari. There is something called 3ivx on my machine that has something to do with Mpeg. Could you give me the steps to remove this from Safari, assuming that it is the extension you were talking about? How would I see what extensions are in Safari? I'm labeling your response with the correct answer to my problem because either way --- I can always use firefox if I can't get Safari straightened out.
