Still unable to save bookmarks in Safari 5.1.2 - any clues?

Starting with Safari 5.1.1 on Lion I have been unable to save any bookmarks after an initial few hours running when it has been possible. I had hoped that the new release of Safari 5.1.2 might have cured the problem, but it doesn't appear to have done so.
I've followed all the suggestions on various posts and cleared the numerous plists and caches. This results in being able to save bookmarks in the normal manner, but only for a few hours or so. The next time I open Safari I find that I am once again unable to save any bookmarks without going through the whole rigmarole of exporting the bookmarks, trashing all the Safari preferences, restarting Safri and importing all the bookmarks once again.
It's great if you have the time and the patience, but my patience is wearing very thin by now.
Does anyone have any definitive solutions to this problem, which happens on all my Macs running Lion and Safari 5.1, thus ruling out a problem with just one Mac?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account, or is system-wide. Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select “Help” from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Any application you run will behave as if you were running it for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
As Guest, launch Safari and test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.

  • Unable to sync bookmarks from Safari

    I have been unable to sync my bookmarks to my iPad from my MacBook Pro. It does not work from either iTunes or iCloud. Why doesn't this work? Am I missing a step??

  • I am in France using wifi - Safari has disappeared!Any clues?

    Several of my resident iphone apps have dissappeared including Safari, any clues why? My iosytem is up to date per itunes.
    thanks for your help

    I would do a hard reset on the iPhone.  You can perform this by holding the power button and the home button at the same time.  Keep holding it until you see an Apple symbol on the screen. Then you can let both buttons go and then the iPhone will power back on.  This is known as a hard reset.  That should bring the App back.

  • Still Unable to save

    This is a follow-up to post Re: Uable to save multiple checkbox records
    I can still only save the last record selection not all the selections made with the checkbox.
    Create a detail-table storing just a fk-id to the base-table-record and the reject_code (or a fk-reference to the table with the reject_codes).
    There is already a detail table (efn_reject_master) for each reject code that is linked to the efn_rejects table that stores the selections.
    original code to save is:
    DECLARE
    rej_cnt NUMBER := 0;
    BEGIN
    GO_BLOCK('efn_reject_master');
    FIRST_RECORD;
    WHILE :efn_reject_master.reject_desc IS NOT NULL LOOP
    IF :efn_reject_master.check_box = 'Y' THEN
    :efn_rejects.reject_code := :efn_reject_master.reject_code;
    --added insert here that did not work
    INSERT into MEMB.EFN_REJECTS (nominating_lodge, reject_code) VALUES
    (:efn_reject_master.reject_code, :efn_reject_master.reject_desc);
    rej_cnt := rej_cnt + 1;
    END IF;
    NEXT_RECORD;
    END LOOP;
    FIRST_RECORD;
    EXIT_FORM;
    END IF;
    END;
    I tried forcing the insert for all checkboxes marked but only last selection is saved. Please help me fix this.

    Create a detail-table storing just a fk-id to the base-table-record and the reject_code (or a fk-reference to the table with the reject_codes).There is already a detail table (efn_reject_master) for each reject code that is linked to the efn_rejects table that stores the selections.From that data-model there is no detail table. You just have your base-table (with columns NAME and REJECT_CODE) and one lookup table containing all the existing reject_codes (with columns REJECT_CODE and REJECT_DESCRIPTION). So you can just assign one REJECT_ODE to a customer and not more than one. A table-structure using a detail-table would be
    Table EFN_REJECTS
    ID (PK-COLUMN You didn't post that, but i guess there is one)
    NAME
    Table EFN_REJECT_ASSIGNMENTS (stores assignments of reject_codes to the Rejects)
    EFN_REJECTS_ID (FK to ID in EFN_REJECTS)
    REJECT_CODE (FK to REJECT_CODE in EFN_REJECT_MASTER)
    Table EFN_REJECT_MASTER remains as is)

  • Cant save bookmarks in safari. Macbook Pro OSX 10.9.2

    Please help.

    Yes, this was one of the first symptoms.  Also, shortly after screensaver started, screen would freeze.
    I went to OSX Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (COMBO) at:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1726?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    Combo installation did solve the problem and has been working well since installation.
    Hope this helps.

  • System Preferences Energy Saver - Icon is screwy (see pic).  Any clues?

    Hello all,
    I have a strange one here. Somehow I've ended up with a screwy Energy Saver icon in my System Preferences. I checked the package contents ( System/Library/PreferencePanes/EnergySaver.prefPane ), and the Resources/EnergySaver.icns file within is intact and looks fine. It seems like the SystemPreferences app has just decided not to resize it when displaying.
    Here is a screen capture (click for full view):
    Anyone seen anything like this before? And if so, any ideas on how to fix it? Everything seems to be working OK. Hopefully this isn't a sign of a bigger problem... I can't figure out what would have caused it.

    Quit System Preferences if it is open, and choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu. Enter ~/Library/Caches/ as the folder's location, throw away the item named com.apple.preferencepanes.cache inside, and then restart System Preferences.

  • Won't save bookmarks

    safari 10.6.6 won't save bookmarks. had this problem before upgrading to the snow leopard. any suggestions? i looked at other posts and they were either unanswered or different operating systems.

    Please boot in safe mode by holding down the shift key at startup. Log into your account and try again. If you still can't save bookmarks in Safari, you'll need to reinstall the OS. If you can save bookmarks in safe mode, then some third-party software you installed is interfering with Safari.

  • Cannot access bookmarks using Safari on I-Phone

    I am suddenly unable to access bookmarks using Safari on my I-Phone. When I press the Bookmarks icon in the toolbar at the bottom, it doesn't come up with my bookmarks but shows another toolbar instead with a single button on the left hand side called "Edit". Bookmarks are all there and accessible when using Safari on my computer and have been imported to my I-Phone. The "Send webpage as URL" icon also doesn't do anything, neither does the "Home" icon. "previous" and "Next" icons do work.

    Turning off wouldn't help because settings would remain even after you restarted. So contact your email provider and them for the correct settings.

    You cannot redownload audiobooks.
    It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer..  Copy them from your backup copy of your comptuer.

  • Unable to save a Bookmark in Safari

    I try to add a bookmark in Safari by choosing a location; execute the command and no bookmark gets added.
    This started when I upgraded to Mavericks. I must use a different browser.

    Yes, the good old days, when you also had a chance to edit the sloppy descriptions that some webpage designers use to define their webpages.  Such as, for instance, descriptions having absolutely nothing to indicate the name of the company whose page you're trying to bookmark.
    Command-D does work, but I agree with the OP: the old way was better, and I'd like to disable the reading list.  I never use it.  I bookmark things in an organized fashion, and the new Safari seems to do everything it can to get in the way of doing so.

  • Safari won't save bookmarks, being problematic

    This is a query on a friend of my family's MacBook. She mostly uses it to look at her email and has had it over a year without a problem.
    The problem start after (and this is my theory) the computer was left on sleep by accident and the battery was drained. I've tried to recharge and reset the battery as far as possible using the support pages, but no deal- it's broke. That's a separate issues now.
    Safari was originally starting up with a message that bookmarks cannot be saved and are unavailable. When I went in and tried to save a bookmark it wouldn't let me, and it wasn't saving a history. Also, it stopped loading anything after I'd visited two pages. The Safari folder had completely disappeared as had the bookmarks plist file.
    I downloaded all the system updates, which included Safari, installed and restarted but now Safari was starting immediateltly on boot up, and although not giving a bookmark warning on start up was not saving bookmarks. I could browse as much as I wanted, though.
    Console gave the message: 'Exception occured trying to obtain lock to save bookmarks;
    NSException [can't get write lock on (null): Bad address] [(null)]. Bookmarks will not be saved.
    I downloaded the new Safari, deleted the old one and installed and restarted. It still started automatically on log in and wouldn't save any bookmarks and there was still no Safari folder in the library, no Safari preferences and no bookmarks.plist. They're there when I click on the bookmarks icon, but that freezes the window.
    Also, whenever I select 'view status bar' it turns into a white screen where the browser used to be.
    I've also tried moving the preferences folder and restarting to force the computer to make a new one, but it makes no difference.
    Suggestions?

    I appreciate your response... however, I should have done a better job of researching this question. There are multiple responses in the "More Like This" sidebar.
    Thanks again.

    Hi.  I have just upgraded to the IPhone5.  I have synced to WIFI and I am still unable to connect to ITunes, App Store or Safari.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks for your help.  NR1420

    What happens when you try?  Do you get an error message.
    disconnect from the wifi and try on cellular data, if you can access the apps, then the problems lies with your router.
