Still using version 6; should I update to iTunes 7?

I'm still using iTunes version 6 and I've been waiting on updating to version 7 until the bugs are all worked out. Should I update yet or is it best to keep using version 6 which I don't really have any complaints with.

It's a personal choice. If iTunes 6 does everything you need and you are happy with it, there is no particular reason to upgrade.
I upgraded to an early version of 7 but downgraded again becuse of poor performance. However I am now on the latest version and have had no problems with it although it does have some very resource hungry features. However not everyone has got on with 7.1 so there is a chance that it may not work well for you. You could always downgrade again if you don't like it.

    Hi pjerl,
Depending on when you originally set up your Apple ID, you may have @mac.com, @me.com, and @icloud.com email addresses associated with your account, but all mail sent to those addresses should still come in to the same iCloud account (you can test this to make sure by sending yourself emails at those addresses). You may find the following articles helpful:

  • My firefox version is 3.6.12, however I cannot download any add-ons cause it says I am still using version 2, and it is the same for website such as youtube where it is always saying I am using a outdated browser. How do I solve this?

I keep updating my firefox whenever it prompts me to, and now I am using version 3.6.12, but I still cannot download any add-ons or have problem using youtube cause they still says I am using a older version of the browser.
But when I go Help > About Mozilla Firefox, I am sure I have the latest version and no more updates can be found.

You have or had an extension installed (MegaUpload toolbar) that has changed the user agent from Firefox/3.6.12 to Firefox/2.0.0.13
You can check the general.useragent prefs on the about:config page:
    * general.useragent.extra.firefox Firefox/2.0.0.13 MEGAUPLOAD 1.0
You can open the about:config page via the location bar, just like you open a website.<br />
    Filter: general.useragent<br />
If general.useragent prefs are bold (user set) then you can right-click that pref and choose Reset.

  • Since I updated my itunes I can't burn a disc in MP3 format.  I converted the list to MP3 but it still won't burn., Since I updated my itunes I can't burn a disc in MP3 format.  I converted the list to MP3 but it still won't burn.

Since I updated my itunes I can no longer burn a playlist to disc using MP3 format.  I clicked on converting the songs to mp3 format but they still won't burn to disc.  The computer says it is checking media and then stops.

same problem. Im using itunes version 10.6.3, I converted wavs burnt from cd, to mp3 using itunes, these were  NOT PURCHASED from itunes, and when I try to burn an mp3 cd using the new mp3 files, they convert to wavs before my eyes every time i create a new playlist of the mp3. The mp3 revert to wav within less than 30 seconds. As if itunes is saying, let me help, I substitute the higher quality 1411 wav files for you. And of course, now they wont burn to mp3, because "they must be converted to mp3 first" before burning.
But every list of the mp3 version of the files keeps reverting to 1411 wav files?
    WHats going on? Thanks

  • Should I update from itunes 6?

Hi. I have been wondering if it is a good idea to update my iTunes from a 6 to a 7. I dont really know what iTunes 7 does to your songs and podcasts, but I see at least one person is trying to change back to their original iTunes! I haven't seen anything really good about switching to a 7, so is sticking with a 6 a good idea?
And while I'm at it, I'll just ask in general, is the automatic update function on the imac good to use? I hesitate to upgrade anything automatically, and wonder what the more experienced people think...
    thanks.

You probably won't experience any issues installing iTunes 7 on your computer; these boards are meant for people who have problems or questions, which will make the probability that you will experience a problem seem like it is much larger than it actually is. If you want to be able to revert in case you do run into problems, back up the existing iTunes library, application, and installer dmg if possible prior to the update.

How to I upgrade to ios 5, can't seem to find the updates from the links here or from my iTunes, the only one available is ios 6. Pls help

YouTube and Google Maps licences have expired.
They're not 1st party apps anymore.
Apple has replaced Google Maps with their own. (Some like it, some don't)
YouTube or Jasmine app can be download from the App Store.
    Here's a what's new link http://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/

  • Yep, I am still using iphone 3, but email wont sync, itunes wont find it

But since Feb 18 or so, my iphone 3 cannot add new email accounts, and existing email accounts cannot sync to get new email any more, even when wifi is active.
Also, my iphone 3 can no longer be recognized by itunes any more.
Did Apple do some trick to block older iphones, such as mine, to work?

ok....itunes now recognizes my iphone 3, that was due to a bad connection.
But still, emails wont sync.  When adding gmail account, after a pause, it will come back and say, Cannot Connect Using SSL (Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?)

  • No Update on iTunes page since 6/26

We updated an episode description and subscribed to feedburner on June 26th. We added a new episode, changed the description, and photo on Sunday, July 1st and pinged iTunes. Since then, no updates have occurred on the iTunes description page; however, all non-iTunes users are getting the latest information and PC iTunes subscribed users are able to download the latest episode with no problem. Macs are not downloading the latest episode unless you re-subscribe.
Both feeds (see below) were validated and passed.
    iTunes link: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=253491702
    Feedburner link: http://feeds.feedburner.com/thetriplep

I know the topic has come up numerous times on this forum, but with different results. I apologize if this is getting redundant, but appreciate your help.

    Interesting.
Pinging iTunes with your feedid shows:
    http://blog.primatechpaperpodcast.com/?feed=rss2&cat=3
This would be the URL that iTunes has on file for your feed...going to that feed just brings you back to the Feedburner page...not sure if you are redirecting this or what.
Looking at your Feed at feedburner you also have a <itunes:new-feed-url> tag that points to http://feeds.feedburner.com/thetriplep
This should push iTunes subscribers to using the feedburner feed automatically. As part of the subscription process, the iTunes database supplies the url it has on file plus its current cached copy of the XML. The itunes client then goes out and grabs the latest XML from that url. In this case the XML is also changing the iTunes client to look at a different URL (feedburner in this case).
This <itunes:new-feed-url> tag should also update the iTunes database with the new feed url. So since this URL is different than what iTunes is reporting with the ping, iTunes either can't reach your feed for whatever reason or just hasn't gotten around to updating yet.
Your feed description is the same in iTunes and your feeds.
I'm assuming that you've also tried changing the name of your podcast art? iTunes will not grab the artwork again unless the filename has changed.
If you look at other threads, other feedburner users have also had problems with updates.

  • How do I update my iTunes store apple ID for updates?

When I get an update for my apps it comes up with my old e mail address for my apple ID, how do I change it? I already changed it in the settings menu but it won't change for my updates....

Apps are tied to the Apple ID with which they were purchased. You have to update those apps with the old ID. See if you can still use the old ID to update those apps.

  • My battery on my ipod touch keeps draining.  i have updated in itunes and turned off wifi....can anyone help??

My battery life on my ipod touch used to last for days if i wasnt using it.  I have updated from itunes recently and my battery is draining in hours.  i have switched off wifi and this has not helped.  i also turned off notifications as well.  can anyone help

Did you already reset your device by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
Also try to delete the mail account in case you're using push/fetch to get your mail. There have been cases in which mail didn't stop connecting to the server, causing the battery drain.

  • Still Using OS 10.4.8 - Should I Update?

So I haven't bothered to update m iMac to 10.4.11 as I am a little concerned that it might create some problems that aren't there at the moment. I wanted to ask you guys if you think I should update or if I should just leave things as they are? The reason I ask is because some apps that I want to download aren't compatible with 10.4.8.
If I do decide to update should I download the Combo Updater or should I use the Software Update function on Finder?

    Of course you should update!
There are no guarantees, but following this procedure when installing updates and upgrades on your Mac, or even re-installing them, will go a long way towards avoiding unpleasant after effects and ‘post-update stress disorder’.
It is also worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
    2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
    3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site. If your car runs on gasoline you would not want to fill the tank with diesel, so don’t try to install the PPC updater on an Intel Mac!
The 10.4.11 Combo Updater for PPC Macs is here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eppc.html
And for Intel Macs: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eintel.html
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
More information on using Software Updater here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1338?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.4.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
    Now proceed as follows:
    4. Close all applications.
    5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
    7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
    8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
    9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 3.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 used Safari 3.0.4 which was not a beta. If Safari 3.1.2 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
Moreover, trying to revert to Safari 3.0.4 (or worse still, version 2) when running 10.4.11 or 10.5 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.1.1 uses a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail and Dashboard Widgets etc also rely, and may entail you having to reinstall an earlier operating system.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Two such add-on that have been frequently mentioned here for causing such problems are Piclens and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them.
Additional tips on software installation here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    • /Library/InputManagers
    • ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

iOS 4.3.5 is not the same as iOS 5. iOS 5 with the new features you list has not been released.

  • Cant update to latest version, i'm still using 3.6 and was unaware beliving i had downloaded succesfully

    ''Question
I haven't been able to undate my firefox successfully, i'm still using 3.6. I was only made aware of this recently from my bank as i was having issues with internet banking. I believed that everytime i downloaded the latest version it had been a success because it came up on my screen that download had been successful. I never paid attention to the notice on the search page that you are not using the latest version of firefox, si i wasn't aware and at times that i did read it i would go to site and download the latest and it would always say download was successsful, so i just assumed all was fine. I need help to change this i can never seem to find your live chat open. I though of unoinstalling and starting all again but i don't know how to save my bookmarks. I'm not that computor savy and it would be much easier for me to talk to someone to help me, how is this posssible.??

According to your system details which are detected when you post here, you're using Firefox 6.0.2 (on Windows Vista), which ''is'' the latest version of Firefox. So don't worry about that.
If your homepage is http://www.google.com/firefox , then that's an error in the version detection on that page. The default homepage is different on newer versions. So go to https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20the%20home%20page#w_restore-the-default-home-page for instructions on how to restore the default home page.
