Still without administrator´s privileges

Hallo, I understand that a single user in Mac used to have administrator's privileges, but this is no longer true with Leopard. This question has been posed already and answered but the suggested procedure (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306876) did not work for me.
Specifically, when I am at stage 3 of the above directions I should proceed as follows:
Follow the onscreen instructions to reset the root password (the root account is not the same as >your account). Specifically: Select the name of the drive that Mac OS X is installed on, select the >user named "System Administrator (root)" from the pop-up menu, type the password in the first >field, re-enter the password in the second field, then click the Save button.
but only MaxOS/Disk appears, and if I choose that (well, no other choice is possible) and try to set an administrator's password, I get an error message saying that the password could not be saved.
I proceed with the rest of the directions, but as expected nothing has changed.
I would be very grateful for any hint (possibly not as radical as re-installing the system) to solve this annoying problem.
Sara

I assume you forgot or do not have your administrator account's password. Do you have another account with administrator privileges? You could use that one to restore the password. If you did not create a password reset disk then read
here.

  • Installation without Administrator Privileges

    Hi All
From what I can gather from AIR documentation, one cannot install or update AIR, or install or update AIR applications without administrator privileges.
We roll out applications to hundreds of medium size businesses (dealerships) and this represents a huge problem as most employees at these companies do not have admin rights.  None of these sites has automated network installs, and all have different situations regarding IT support.
Our current desktop application requires no admin privileges and introducing the AIR portion of our product has caused a big snag.
Is there any way to get around this?  Are future versions going to support some way of doing this?
We would probably be ok if we had to do one administrator install of AIR and the app,  if further application updates did not require admin rights.
    Thanks
    Ken

Exactly. A feature that allows Enterprise IT to "bless" an AIR application would be great. The AIR Update Framework is such a great feature. I hate the fact that I cannot use it on my largest AIR installations. That means more expense for us, and our desktop engineering jobs are safe...
From my understanding, the AIR Update Framework already ensures that the digital certificate in an update matches the digital certificate of the installed app. This guarantees that the update came from the same trusted publisher of the app. Very nice.
I think I also read somewhere that on Windows, AIR apps are always installed in the "All Users" profile -- both file system and Registry. An option to install an AIR app in a user's profile would also work for us, if that helps.
So even if we have to SMS the initial application install (with our production digital certificate), allowing the app to update itself would save us a lot of time, effort, money, headaches, etc...

  • Why firefox can be installed without administrative privilege

A standard user (i.e without administrator or power user right),able to run the installation package able in his/her workstation.By default, any executable package should not be run without administrator privilege.
    Please assist, thanks!

    Hi jscher2000,
Yes. I do not want non-administrator domain users to install Firefox. Most of the domain users are using Windows XP and 7 Professional.
Once the Firebox executable file is clicked, Windows does prompt Windows Security message box for administrator username and password.
However, the installation process is proceed, even though no login information is inserted and domain user clicked "NO" .By default, any of the application installation process will be stopped once "NO" option is clicked.
    Please advise.

  • Adobe reader 10.1 AutoUpdate without administrative privileges

    Hi,
If I install Adobe Reader 10.1 for windows 7 manually, then standard user without administrative rights can use autoapdate. If I install it through Group Policy or SCCM, then standard users should enter admin's password. How can I install Adobe Reader automatically and that it doesn't demand administrator's password from standard users?

Well, Let me rephrase, so you want to push the Reader 10.1 via GPO and then afterwards you want the users machines get updated automatically. i.e. Post 10.1, you want the users to receive updates via (Help>Check for updates) silent update and not via GPO. Am I right?
If this is the case, am not sure if this is an supported scenario, because you are installing an AIP first and then the next updates are coming from an Non AIP installation. As far as I know, if we have deployed any patch via GPO then the next updates must be pushed via GPO only. Since, their underlying technology is AIP. We should not be mixing both the ways of installation.
I do not think, there's any solution available for your problem via GPO right now. Though I would like to see your Cust Wizard option once. But what I can suggest you to resolve the issue with SCCM (if possible)

  • Deploying msi via group policy without administrative rights

We are having a problem with flash player not working without
Administrative right on the machine. We thought we could get around
this by using the flash_player_active_x.msi and installing through
group policy. The install during a computer reboot (if assigning to
a computer) or during a user sign on (if assigned to a user) seems
    to work fine.
However, when you actually try to load a webpage with flash,
nothing. The component doesn't actually get installed into the
browser. As soon as you log on with a privilaged account, and
browse to a flash enabled page, the install finishes, the active x
control is loaded and now all users can see it.
However, I'd really prefer not to have to go around to each
computer and log on with the administrator account - kind of
defeats the purpose of group policy.
All computers are Win XP sp2 with IE 7. The active directory
    server is a Win2k server.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I am having this issue also. Has anyone found a solution?
I found this reference on this website, but there is no
    solution given:
    I
have installed Adobe Flash Player but still don't see any Flash
    content. What is wrong?
    quote:
Restricted User accounts are unable to display Flash Player
    content
After successful installation under the Windows Administrator
account, Restricted User accounts are unable to display Flash
Player content. This issue has been reported on Microsoft Windows
XP Service Pack 2 systems and occurs sporadically. It may also
affect other versions of Windows, such as Windows 2000.
If you installed Flash Player 8.0.24.0 prior to April 6,
2006, then you must remove it using the Flash Player uninstaller
released on May 11, 2006. Remove Flash Player using the
instructions in How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player (TechNote
    14157).

  • Installing the Java-Plugin without administrative rights

I would like to find a way to allow a user without administrative rights to install the Java-Plugin for using Java-Applets. As far as I understood, the plugin can be installed in a silent way withou registry modifiactions. Is this working for users without admin rights?
Furthermore I would like to have the web page containing the applet installing the plugin (if necessary) in a fully automatic way so the user does not need to deal with installing the plugin manually. This should work without admin rights as well.
    Any ideas?

without admin rights?Could anyone please explain, why it is so difficult for Sun to create an installation package for user without admin rights? The whole "GetJava"-program is just crap for ordinary users if they get the JRE downloaded seamlessly and then the installation fails due to missing admin rights. This way Java would never succeed on the desktop.

You would have to assign Admin role permission to users in EAC.
To understand this concept in more depth, I would refer you at this well described article : http://www.mustbegeek.com/reset-user-password-in-exchange-2013/
Or, you may use any third party like, (http://www.selfservicepasswordreset.org/) that seems to be an appropriate approach in your environment. This tool allows end-users to perform self password reset
and self account unlock from any computer in the network through a web-browser or directly from the login screen without any assistance from the administrator. Administrator can configure strong policy for automatic account unlock and automatic reset
password at a specified time for any particular domain OU's.

  • Start Diadem without Administrator rights

If try to start Diadem 9.1 with the rights of "Benutzer" or "Gast", I get the error message:
    "File-Acces Error: 5! ..\Programme\..\Diadem9.1\ must be writeable!"
Simple user has no write acces to path ..\Programme\.. indeed. (Win2000Pro and WinXPPro)
How can a user without administrator right start DIAdem ?
    Martin Bohm
    [email protected]

You don't need administrator rights to launch DIAdem 9.1!
Just during the installation and the first DIAdem launch it is necessary to have administrator rights. After this simple user rights are enough.
But DIAdem needs access to the Windows temp path (that's standard) and needs access to the files "Desktop.ddd" and "Userpar.par" as well as to the folders where you would like to store you files created by DIAdem.
On NTFS partitions you typically don't have write access on the Windows program folder. But therefore you can launch DIAdem with the parameter /d to specify where your desktop file is stored e.g. c:\program\...\DIAdem.exe /dD:\MyDIAdemKonfigPath\Default.ddd

  • Samsung S6 still without 5.1.1

    Hello guy's,
I'm just curious if anyone has received  the lastest android update yet? I'm still without the lastest 5.1.1 update, yet all my friends SG6 have the latest version, and they're with EE! I'm wondering If running Nova would have casued an issue..
    Cheers

It hasn't launched yet it seems - http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G920F/EVR/ One reason for the delay could be that they may be fixing any bugs that showed-up with Wifi calling. Another could be that they may be integrating the VoLTE side of things into the firmware for a launch later in the year (killing 2 birds with the one stone). Or they could just simply be slow ;-)
