Still wondering which to get.

I have become frustrated in not finding any retinas a the Apple Stores to help me in my decision. I need to get a new MacBook Pro and have been trying to decide between the retina or nonretina. When I talked to a store person, they told me to come and wait outside the store door and when I see a delivery person, to come in and see if they had gotten a retina one in. This I think is stupid. I don't have time to do that. Any opinions? I am a teacher. I have posted before, I still would like opinions.

you could always order the macbook pro retina online. If you decide you do not like it, for whatever reason, you have 14 days to return it with no questions asked.
Read reviews online and see what people are saying. I didn't even bother trying to see one at my local store. I know what a zoo it would be there, and they probably don't have any.
I placed my order online and i'm waiting for it to arrive. I don't think I will be dissappointed. I have read hands on reviews. Yeah, there are some people who are having problems, that's why they come to this forum to get help. I'm also sure there are a lot of people out there who love their new macbook pro retina's who haven't posted reviews online.

If your budget is unlimited, look at both the retina and non-retina and make a decision based on your preferences. If funds are tight, explore the options in the refurbished section. Unless you are dealing with courses that demand specific performance parameters, any one of these options will suffice.

Yes you can. However, it is better to use one person's account most of the time for purchases in the Mac App Store and iTunes since you can share purchases, such as songs, among various devices using the SAME account. You Cannot share purchases among different accounts, though. So make one of your accounts the main "purchasing" account so you can share purchases.

I have iTunes on an old pc and am thinking of buying a MacBook Air. I am wondering how to get the content of my iPad on to the Mac as I know that sync only happens in one direction, from pc to device. I assume therefore that when I attach my pad to the new Mac it will sync to an empty iTunes and I will have lost all the content of my pad. I know I can restore purchases, but what about contacts, calendar, photos and music not purchased from apple. I have a fairly recent backup on a pen drive but it is a usb2 device and is formatted for a pc. Any advice would be appreciated.

Do I copy my media library or from a backup. I have a backup on my pc and on an external drive. This drive is usb2 and formatted for windows so I can't connect it to a MacBook Air to make the transfer. Equally I don't think there is a way to connect the 2 computers via a cable ie usb2 one end and usb3 the other. Will the computers talk to each other via wifi if I enable home share although I think this is only for music which still leaves contacts, mail etc.

I will be doing some computer programming and I feel like reading code on a smaller screen could be a bit of a pain. Also, what is the best option in terms of backup? I don't anticipate having a lot of video but I will have some pictures, music files as well as regular documents and spreadsheets. I'd also like to get an idea of how good the battery life is. The 13" will do the trick for what you describe as your needs, Be sure to consider how you will backup your data -- need an external drive?
Also be sure to check with your college or division of study to see what they recommend. If they are hostile to Macs, you may be on your own for finding support. But in most major cities, that will not be too hard.

Wondering whether to get a mac mini starting at $599 or a mac-book air 11 inch.

Hi I'm wondering whether to get a mac mini 2012 starting at $599 or the 11 inch macbook air (newest version as of this post. For about a year and a half I will use it for light gaming (minecraft) and miscellaneous web surfing (Youtube, and other teenage time wasters. NO MASTERBATION JOKES PLEASE) but in a year and a half I will need it for school projects, traveling, and video/photo editing since im heading off too college. This is a hard decision because it is my hard earned money and im spending only about 600-1000.

I have both the Air and Mini, and 2 mac minis. I honestly cant decide between either of them,...my Mac Mini is the best desktop I have ever owned, however its purpose is almost totally different from that of my AIR, which is for travel, etc.
Since YOU are heading off to college and traveling, Id certainly get the AIR, between the two.
Both have the HIGHEST used resale value of any other laptop / desktop. Both are great choices.

G2 or G1 which to get?

I am getting a 32 gig touch for my birthday, but not sure which to get.
I will be putting it on a Vista pc, possibly upgrading the pc to another Vista laptop (maybe 64 bit too, since I can go 4+ gigs of ram on a 64-bit OS and not on 32 bit)
So far I have made my Pros/Cons list.... but I still cant decide which Touch to get. So far my list is.
Pros.
Bluetooth, Apple might fully unlock it later and allow for bluetooth headphones and iTunes syncing
Nike shoe thingey support (the one item that uses bluetooth now) --- But I dont have the Nike shoe thingey
External Volume Control --- Big +
External speaker --- Herd it isnt too good for music
Better Battery life --- Always a big +
Cons.
No charging over Firewire --- I would probally charge using my dock I charge my 60 gig Video, that is connected to the older USB to Electrical outlet, or via USB to my pc
I have herd that it is bad on Wi-Fi connections.
I also have a few small questions.
How many e-mail accounts does it support? (I have heard 8, heard 10, heard 5)
Does it support Yahoo and AOL?
Will the G2 connect well to my Linksys WRT54G router with WEP encryption and a password approx 30ish characters long? (Might upgrade to a new AirPort Extreme) (My sister's G1 connects to it just fine)

It supports email and yahoo and aol. The wifi conncetion I had a problem with it too but somehow I solved it. At first it wasn't working but then I turned it off for a few minutes then reopened and it has been working fine since then. You might need to turn off wifi and turn it on again for it to work but the wifi will work. I solved it myself and I'm sure there won't be a problem with yours. I say just get the 2nd generation since it's cheeaper than the first generation and you can still use any USB apple wall charger. I had one that I bought for my iPod mini a few yrs ago and it works w the iPod touch USB. If u have more questions fill free to ask

it's well known, that in all these cases you describe I'm not a friend of a detailed Troubleshooting (I see Nancy#s smile already).
To be able to be independent in all this things It is one of the reasons why I prefer an external FTP program. The difficulties with which you have to fight encourage me in this opinion, not least because we always search for experts, we don't charge a "jack of all trades".
To manage several websites or to upload my files and sometimes for the opposite way, for a necessary download from my server or to use a "a site-wide synch", I'm using FileZilla. It simply looks easier for me to keep track of all operations precisely and generate or reflect easily the desired tree structure.
Above all, FileZilla has a feature (translation from my German FileZilla) called "compare file list". Here it's possible to use file size or modification time as a criterion. There is also the possibility to "hide identical files", so that only these files which you want to redact remain visible.
And even if it means you have to install a new program, I am convinced that there is an advantage. Here is the link to get it and where you can read informations about how it works:

If you're running Mountain Lion (which I'm assuming you are if your MBP is new) you can set up Find My Mac under System Preferences>iCloud. You can also use a free online service such as Prey.
No guarantee to keep your MBP from being stolen, but at least you can find it if it's on (and if the criminals aren't Mac experts).
