Stitching (overlaying) images to create panoramas
Is there a way to create panoramas by stitching/overlaying images together?
Or even an actual stitching program like PTGui, Stitcher, Autopano Pro or Hugin...

Is it possible to create Panoramic photos in Aperture
I know it is possible to create Panoramic photos in PS, but was wondering if it is also possibel in Aperture.
Imho ( ) it is worth understanding the difference between Aperture and programs like it (LR, etc.), and Photoshop. The difference is compositing. PS and other Graphics programs are built from the ground up as compositors. Aperture and its cousins are Digital Asset Managers and digital photo development tools. You use Aperture to manage your collection of digital photos, and to make any one photo into the best version possible for whatever use you have. Then you export your digital photos from Aperture, and use them in graphics programs to create new graphics.
In general, if you are combining things (text, geometric primitives, multiple graphic elements, etc.), you use a graphics program; if you are optimizing a photo for a particular use, you can do it using Aperture.
For panoramas, I import the photos I'm going to use into Aperture, Stack them and add a color label (so I can see at a glance that these Images are part of that kind of series), check the WB, the export them to a temporary Finder folder. I use Hugin to open all the exported files and stitch them together. Then I import the panorama I created using Hugin and place it as the Stack Pick of the Stack, and make whatever additional adjustments I want for the use I have for the panorama.

A client wants to stitch x-ray image sets into full-spine images. The images are in DICOM format, three overlapping images of the top, middle and lower spine. Testing on non-medical images in DICOM format, I know I can stitch using Photomerge. What I'd like to know is if the composite image will retain its EXIF data (DICOM has its own section in the EXIF specification).
Has anyone used Photoshop for this purpose, or had experience with DICOM images?A couple of questions:
You have two (or more) Images in Portrait orientation, that you wish to stitch together. Do you wish for them to "stitch" side-by-side, creating a wider Image, or stitch them end-to-end, making them taller? I assume the former, but am not positive.
Were the Portrait Images shot with overlap, and aligned, when captured, or were they just shot randomly, i.e. did you shoot a planned, full panorama, with vertical Images?
Can you Open one, then increase the Canvas Size, and drag the other into that Image, manually aligning it to match up (skipping PhotoMerge)?
Can you get by with using the above method, with say both pictures near each other, and maybe the Canvas (say choose black, when you extend it), so that you have two, separate photographs in one Image?
Good luck,

I followed your directions and closed all open files including "spySweeper" and "Norton". I went to "run" and entered %appdata% and
deleted "Adobe" NOTE: there was another file titled AdobeUM which I did not delete. I opened Adobe Elements and went to File->New
->Photomerge Panorama and immediately
got
Error 1: Unable to create Window
-Internal error.
Line: 364
-> var w = new Window(res);
I tried this several times from both the edit screen and the screen that shows the individual images and always got the same results

I have tried your suggested solution several times and it does not work......fortunately I have found another product that does work
and have moved on to it. I would like to know what is causing the problem particularly since a "lot" of other users are reporting
the same problem on the Internet.

Hello John,
Thank you for contacting Adobe® Web Support for assistance with Adobe
Photoshop® Elements 7.0.
I received your images and was able to reproduce your problem on my
machine several times and also triggered the same error even after
resaving the images using the "Save for Web" function.
Interestingly, after deleting the program's preferences, I was able to
use Photomerge successfully on your images and could not reproduce the
error.
Try the following and see if these steps fix the issue for you as well:
1. Close all open programs.
2. Click on Start > Run.
3. In the run dialog field, type: "%appdata%" [without the quotes].
4. Delete the Adobe folder shown there (this will delete all Adobe
software preferences and settings).
5. Close the window.
6. Launch Photoshop Elements Editor and try using the Photomerge command
on your images again.
The files are being forwarded to our engineers to see if they can
isolate why these images may corrupt or damage Photoshop Elements'
preferences and settings.
I hope this information helps to resolve your issue. If you require
further assistance with this issue, please update your web case with
complete details, including what steps you have applied and any error
messages you are receiving.

I can't believe with as many people as are having this problem that Adobe had not developed a solution and released it as a "bug" fi

Hello John,
Thank you for contacting Adobe® Web Support for assistance with Adobe
Photoshop® Elements 7.0.
I understand that when you attempt to use the Photomerge feature in
Photoshop Elements that you immediately get the errors:
Error 1: Unable to create Window
- OS error:[1400]
Line: 364
-> var w = new Window(res);
We have seen customer reports of this error and have the matter under
investigation.
Currently, it has been determined to be image specific and isolated to
problems processing the metadata in some images.
Our software engineers have been unable to isolate the exact issue with
these problematic images' metadata and have requested that people who
have images exhibiting this behavior be asked to upload them via the
Adobe Support Portal so that they can be examined.
Fortunately, we also do have a potential workaround that may allow you
to merge your images.
Try the following:
1. Open your images in Photoshop Elements Editor.
2. Save each one using the "Save for Web" command available in the File
menu in JPG format with the quality set to "High".
[This will remove all metadata from the images]
3. Close Photoshop Elements Editor and all open images.
4. Open the images that you just removed the metadata from using "Save
for Web" and use Photomerge on them.
I hope this information helps to resolve your issue. If you require
further assistance with this issue, please update your web case with
complete details, including what steps you have applied and any error
messages you are receiving.
You may also call Technical Support at (800) 642-3623. We are available

Hello John,
Thank you for contacting Adobe® Web Support for assistance with Adobe
Photoshop® Elements 7.0.
I understand that when you try to use the Panorama function in Elements,
you receive a message “unable to create window.”
Does this problem happen when you are trying to merge specific images or
does it happen with all images?
What size are the images you are trying to merge? What dimensions, dots
per inch, and file type are the images?
How many images are you trying to merge? Do you have the same problem
if you try merging just two images?
Make sure when you are going to do the photomerge that any extra
programs are closed. The merging process is rather memory intensive so
the less programs running at once, the better.
Try to resize each of the photos to a smaller size, and then retry the
command.
If you receive the error when saving a panorama, try flattening the file
(use the Layer>Flatten Image command), or save the panorama in the
smaller, JPEG format.
I hope this information helps to resolve your issue. If you require
further assistance with this issue, please update your web case with
complete details, including what steps you have applied and any error
messages you are receiving.

Has it ever worked? If so, what's changed? (provide comments in description field): Yes
Same results with different file?: Yes
Same results with different computer?: Not Applicable
Recent System Hardware or Software change?: NoI have recently started having this problem in PSE8. The Adobe workaround
did work, but I don't fancy having to re register each time I use it.
What I have discovered is that it's nothing to do with the image metadata as it occurs before any image is opened.
It SEEMS to only occur if you use file/open with to open an image in the editor - IE start PSE with that command.
If you close elements down, and start it using programs/PSE/Elements (or your desktop shortcut) - the panorama feature magically works.
Each time I've opened the editor 'automatically' using image/open with, it seems to create the problem.

Best practice to put overlay images on video?
Hello community!
I would like to know what's the best way to put overlay images on videos, like ads ( actually ads )
I'd like to animate them and all that stuff, the thing is I believe I know how to do it, but I'm not sure.
On the one side I image that i should create a plugin to manage them, and a MediaElement to put them inside.
Supposably this mediaElement ( Ads ) should run in Parallel with the video.
I'm still investigating on that but I would appreciate any help!
Thanks!Yes, you're on the right track. See this sample app for some additional guidance:
http://opensource.adobe.com/svn/opensource/osmf/trunk/apps/samples/framework/LayoutSample/
The sample demonstrates the layout of an overlay bug by placing a VideoElement and ImageElement in a ParallelElement. To map this to the ad use case, you might have the ImageElement encapsulated within a plugin. -
Easy way to manipulate overlay image file?
Greetings, I'm currently trying to figure out how to simplify something for a client so they can make quick changes. Here's what I have:
- Menu with a video in the background playing in a 30s loop.
- Menu buttons with a specific "tile" I created in Photoshop, and placed into DVDSP as an overlay. This button "tile" (a vertical triangle) was placed in a specific position relative to the video in the background.
- Menu buttons illuminate the triangle when you select a specific button properly.
Now, the client has changed the background video from a 4:3 video to a 16:9 video, and wants to move the text and buttons on the menu. In doing so, this means the button "tile" needs to shift many pixels down.
As far as I can tell, there's no way to simply grab the overlay image file and drag it down a few pixels, line it up by eye and be done with it. Do I have to go into Photoshop, manipulate the image, re-save it and reintroduce it to DVDSP?
Basically, is there an easy way to move or relocate the overlay image file within DVDSP? Thanks!Tiresias314 wrote:

Overlays cannot be moved or relocated in DVD SP. Best bet is to do it in a Custom 16:9 preset in Photoshop -
System Image Utility - Create User - Activate Remote Management
When creating an image with system image utility, based on a DVD image instead of a cloned image, I cannot create a user and activate Remote Management.
I have created an installer package with Apple Remote Desktop that is supposed to do both, however it doesn't work. I do not get an error, but no user is created.
I have tried a post-install script however the dscl command is not recognized even if I put the path /usr/bin/dscl.
I even tried to use a popular package out there called "createUser" but that fails as well.
Has anyone had any luck with this when trying to make a moduler image with System Image Utility?

ok here's the deal: i created a folder in my OSX server home directory labelled "images" and keep our multiple images there. although you CAN have your images on other drives or on the network, that would take a LOOOOOOOONG time to do the data transfer to the invisible netboot folder on your server. my advice: keep local copies of all images. save a ton of time for yourself, eh?

Why am I getting "insufficient RAM to fill" message when creating panoramas when I have 16 GB on my computer?
You don't say which version of PSE or which operating system, but except for PSE 12/mac, all versions of PSE are 32 bit programs, which means they can only use a maximum of about 3 GB of ram, no matter how much you have in your system. You can try going to the editor>preferences>performance and upping the percentage available for PSE.

JPEGImageDecoder imageDecoder = new JPEGImageDecoder(bass,null);
RenderedImage ri = imageDecoder.decodeAsRenderedImage();

How can I keep overlay image on 8 bit image at video acqusition?
Hi, I am using AVT camera Pike with Laview vision 2012
When I use Example code 'Grab and Attributes Setup.vi' (<NI supported Example),
I simply add the event case for overlay function (such as 'IMAQ Overlay Oval') with Image by Local Variables connection (image input - output).
Event case:
Image------[IMAQ Overlay Oval]--------Image
Rectangle Control ---|
IMAQ Overlay should keep the overlay on buffer memory if I input the rectangle value.
Problem is that the overlay disappeared if I use 8 bit image format?.
but at the 16bit image format, the image keep the overlay image (colored overlay).
It seems the overlay buffer is removed by acquiring new 8 bit image, but 16 bit format, the overlay is still alive.
Is it bug or what am I wrong?upload the error situation block diagram

System image utility : creating Leopard & SL Netinstall images to share on Lion
Hi!
I have recently upgraded to Lion server from SL server, our server had 1 main purpose: host Leopard & SL Netinstall images as well as some netboot diagnostic drives.
It seems however that with a fresh install of Lion Server that trying to create a netinstall image from anything other then Lion doesnt work, even whipping out the old 10.6.3 install DVD mounts on the system but image utility shows no valid source.
i remember going from tiger sever to leopard that i could no longer make tiger images, and had to run from a tiger system to create them, but when i was running SL, i was able to share leopard images without issue.
So, is there anyway i can (without having to reinstall SL server ) i can create fresh netinstall images of 10.5 & 10.6OS's for my shiny new Lion server to share?
now unfortunatley the leopard & SL images i had previously are gone (a HDD crash giving me reason to upgrade) (yeah yeah i know, backups.. ) but i thought i would just reimage the files again as that is this servers only purpose.
Thank you kindly in advance, any help appreciated.
Richardi know that was the case in Leopard and Snow Leopard but i just mounted a leopard image to create a new netrestore on my lion server. i was not able to boot any of my images created on Leopard or SL when running Lion Server. I assume i need to recreate the images on Lion. Right now my Lion server is using a leopard image as the source to create a netrestore i can push on the Lion server.

System Image Utility "Create" problem
We have a new Xserve that we're finally going to be available to use for Open Directory/Net Boot/Net Install/etc in our coporate network. So, this is all new to me but I'm trying to make a Net Install image to export to the server.
My G5 workstation (Mac OS X 10.4.6, but the imaged drive has 10.4.5) has two hard drives, one of which has our corporate image of software installed on it, "clean". The other hard drive is my own with lots of extra software and customization. I'm trying to use the System Image Utility (v. 10.4.4 (251)) to create an image. I am an administrator user on my computer. After configuring all the appropriate settings, I push the "Create" button and it appears to start working, prompts me for a location to save the actual image itself, creates a folder with the default name and then nothing happens. The spinning gear would seem to indicate that the System Image Utility is doing something, but the "Create" button continues to throb blue. I can click "Create" again and another folder is created when I'm promted to save the image and it continues to remain empty. All I can do is click "Cancel" and start over.
I was quite frustrated until I logged into my computer as the local administrator user (this user is employed when we're configuring a workstation for the first time to give it the correct file sharing name and bind it to the Active Directory). Creating an image works just find while I'm logged in as the local administrator. (At least as far as creating/exporting the image, getting Net Boot to turn on the Xserve is proving a challenge.)
So, is there something preventing network administrator users from creating images? I'd really rather have my own e-mail open and running as well as my own bookmarks while I'm working on a project like this, but it doesn't seem possible. Any tips would be appreciated.

Resizing Images Originally created in InDesign
I created a Logo in InDesign CS 5.5. It contains a number of different elements and I grouped all of the lements together. The original size of the Logo is approximately 15.5 X 7.5. I also formatted the interior of a book in InDesign. I copied and pasted the logo on the title page of the book, and resized the logo to around 6.75 X 3.25 by changing the percentage of the image. I am unable to change the width and height directly because it gives me a “Requested Value is not a Legal Dimension” message. After sending the interior to the printer for review, they replied indicating that the image was less than 300 DPI. Is there a way to manage or control the resolution of images originally created in InDesign so that when they are resized, the DPI will still be a desired resolution for print?
Thanks to all who replied.
If I understand correctly, I can control how my effects are rasterized by modifying the Transparency Flattener Presets, which is located in InDesign CS5.5 under "Edit" at the top of the screen. There is already an option for HIgh Resolution and it will Rasterize Line Art and Text Resolution to 1200 ppi and Gradeint and Mesh Resolution to 300 ppi. In addition, I think the Medium Resolution would work for me because it will rasterize Line Art and Text Resolution to 300 ppi.
Furthermore, in order for those effects to take effect, I understand that when exporting to a print PDF, I need to export with the compatibility as Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3) in order to be able to modify the Transparency Flattener to Medium or High Resolution.
On the other hand, since I was exporting to a print PDF wiht the compatibility as Acrobat 5 or higher, I assume that it was doing this at the Low resolution, which was 288 ppi, which is the exact resolution that the printer cited. It is my understanding that if you create images with effects applied like Bevel and emboss, drop shadow, etc., and exporting them to a print pdf, it would be best to export as Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3) in order to control the Transparency Flattener Presets.

Adding an overlay image over an activex control
Hello,
In my VI I have an ActiveX control containing an image grabbed from a camera.
My aim is to overlay a yellow X in the center of the image for facilitating in centering the camera.
Any control or decoration I place sits behind the image, not in front of it.
I tried looking for a way to add an overlayed image to the grabbed image - but I guess it's not supported.
I tried to run a separate VI that includes just the yellow X. I managed to get this VI over the image, but LV doesn't enable me to make the background of this simple VI transparent.
I tried placing the VI inside a subpanel. It's transparent all right, but the subpanel is again behind the image.
If anyone is willing to try and help me on this riddle, place an ActiveX container, and insert into it either "Microsoft Forms 2.0 Frame" or "Microsoft Forms 2.0 Image". I found these behave the same as my image. Now try to find a way to overlay an X over it.
Thanks for your help,
NitzanThanks for the tip - it'll be useful when I upgrade to 8.0 (planned for when my boss is in a good mood ;-)
Is there any way (programatically) to make the VI transparent on version 7.1?
Meanwhile I found a way around that isn't very comfortable, but may interest a few:
To make a cross-hair I place two sub-VIs. One is a vertical line, the other is a horizontal line.
In the VI that I use, the block diagram is just an endless while loop. The front panel is blank and painted yellow. The required stop button is placed out of the way. I customised the window appearance to show nothing but the inside of the front panel.
In my main VI I use a reference to open the sub-VI. I resize the window panel to 100x1 to get just a thin yellow line appear. I do this twice (1x100 the second time) to get the crossing line.
I'm working on a demo for this, coming soon.
