Stitching photos in iPhoto

Hi, can…someone tell me if you can stitch photos together in iPhoto to create a panoramic photo using multiple photos taken with a Canon Digital camera?
Thanks

Hi.
No, iPhoto can't do this. You can export a copy of each photo for your panorama to your Desktop. Open the exports in Canon PhotoStitch, create your panorama, and import it to your iPhoto library as a new original.

  • Stitching photos captured in IPhoto

Hope there is an easy solution to this and that I'm just not seeing what it is.
My Canon Powershot camera allows me to "stitch" photos. In the past when I was using a PC I've done that through the Canon "Image Browser" program that came with the camera. Recently I switched to a MAC and IPhoto. My problem is this: I can't find a way to copy photos shot in stitch mode, now captured to IPhoto, to the Canon program to stitch them there.
The Canon program shows a tree/directory, but no where on it can I find the photos now in IPhoto. All that appears related to IPhoto is something called "IPhoto Library Recovery Photos", which is a collection of photos taken over a year ago. All the photos transferred from my old PC are visible but nothing after January when I bought the MAC.
If I go to "Finder" and look at "Pictures" on the basic tree I see all of my old photos nicely arrayed in files by date. I can open each file and get access to the photos separately. As for my new material captured to IPhoto, all I see on the treee is "IPhoto Library". If I click on this I'm taken directly out of finder to the IPhoto program.
Can anyone explain what's happening? Why don't all my photos (now over 200) captured to IPhoto show up as independent files in the "Finder"? How am I to locate the images that need to be stiched and how do I get them into the Canon stitching program,"Image Browser"? Hope someone can help me out.
    Thanks.
    John

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.

  • Cannot email photos from iPhoto after upgrade to 10.8

After upgrading to 10.8, I have not been able to successfully eamil photos from iPhoto. I can select the photos, click the email icon, and have Mail open with the photos attached (as expected). But the send button is grayed out, and the newly created message window cannot be closed. To get rid of the unsendable email, I have to quit or force shut down Mail, then reopen Mail and manually delete the email from Drafts.
Has anyone else run into this issue?

As Larry suggested go into iPhoto's Accounts preference pane and make sure your email account information is correct. If you joined iCloud that is a must.

  • Can't view photos in iphoto but I still can in Preview

Recently I changed some of the folder names of my photos in the iphoto library, but now when I want to view them in iphoto they are blank. I can still view them through Preview mode if I go through Finder, but that's a hassle. Also, the photos that I didn't change the folder name I can still view in iPhoto. I use iPhoto 5.
What should I do in order to get things back to normal and be able to view my photos in iphoto??

    i Brian
Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
1 - this is the iPhoto '08 forum - your question would be better placed in the iPhoto 5 forum - http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=850 - some things work differently and here people will assume that you have iPhoto '08 and the answers may not work on iPhoto 5
What should I do in order to get things back to normal and be able to view my photos in iphoto??
2 - You should NEVER modify the iPhoto library (or any other database structure for that matter) - you should ONLY use iPhoto to change things. At this time your two choices are to put things back exactly like they were or recreate your library which will lose your edits, albums, etc

  • Cannot send photos from iPhoto

    This is driving me nuts!
I am on a MacBook Pro running Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1. I am using Yahoo as my primary mail. When I try to send photos using iPhoto, I get the common message "The email server didn't recognize your user / Password combination". I know for sure that the username and password are correct, and sending regular email works fine.
I've tried activating iCloud mail and trying that, but then I get a message that the outgoing mail server timed out.
I've tried all the suggestions I've been able to find in other threads to no avail, although the other threads about this subject seem to focus more on Gmail.
Anybody else using this setup and successfully sending?
    Thanks,
    Glen

Use this for your SMPTE outgoing mail server in the settings of the iCloud account:
    smtp.mail.me.com
After doing this, switch to the iPhoto as your mail preference (instead of Mail) in the general screen, and test it out.
This fixed my issues after I kept getting an error with the server when email photos from iPhoto.  Once I manually added the correct outgoing server to iPhoto for my iCloud account, it worked fine.

  • Some of my photos in iphoto turn blank (white) when I tried to edit the size like zoon in and out.Can someone help me on this?

Some of my photos in Iphoto turn blank (white) when I tried to edit the size like zoon in and out.Can someone help me on this?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • How can I get all photos from iPhoto to automatically back up to iCloud from my Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 operating system.  Not enough memory to upgrade.

How can I get all photos from iPhoto to automatically back up to iCloud from my Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 operating system.  Not enough memory to upgrade.

You can't.  iCloud is not for general file backup from a Mac. It's for backup up and syncing data between mobile devices and and Macs and  The following is from this Apple document: iCloud: Backup and restore overview.
iCloud automatically backs up the most important data on your (mobile) device using iOS 5 or later. Once you have enabled Backup on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch .....
    What is backed up
You get unlimited free storage for:
Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books
Notes: Backup of purchased music is not available in all countries. Backups of purchased movies and TV shows are U.S. only. Previous purchases may not be restored if they are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
Some previously purchased movies may not be available in iTunes in the Cloud. These movies will indicate that they are not available in iTunes in the Cloud on their product details page in the iTunes Store. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
You get 5 GB of free iCloud storage for:
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemails
But not from a Mac.  If you want to backup your photos and other important files I suggest you get an external hard drive and use  it with Time Machine.

My Iphone 4 just updated to the iOS6.  I've connected it to my computer for the first time since then, and wanted to back up my photos in iPhoto.  However, although Iphoto recognized my phone, it shows no photos to upload or backup.  It lists my phone in the "devices" category on the left bar, but no longer shows any of my photos.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've reread your question several times and am not sure I understand it.
Are you trying to basically start over, as if you just took your iPhone out of the box?  If so, do:
Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings

i was backing up my iPhone and importing photos onto iPhoto at the same time , then suddenly it says no more space available (i had 48GB before i do this and now i have 18GB) i can't find the back up or the photo anywhere , how can i delete them ? i dont need the pictures or the back ups , i want to delete them but they are not there

Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown asBackups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Reboot and it should go away.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • I cannot upload photos from iPhoto 9 to Flikr. When I attempt to do so, I get the message "the login details or auth token passed were invalid." Please help.

I cannot upload photos from iPhoto 9 to Flikr. When I try, I get the message "the login details or auth token passed were invalid."  I am using iPhoto 9 version 8.1.2, and my OS is 10.9.5. My computer is a MacBook Pro. I do not have this trouble with my iMac.  This trouble started before I updated to OS10.9.5.  I do not have this problem when uploading to FaceBook or sending by e-mail.
This problem started when I tried to upload some photos after hitting the "use other account" tab. This took me to a Flikr site asking me for permission to make my iPhoto information available to others.  I clicked "yes," and then I changed my mind and clicked "no." I haven't been able to upload to Flikr since.
I searched Flikr and Yahoo for a solution, and Yahoo says the trouble is in iPhoto.  I checked my Flikr account, and iPhoto extensions are enabled.
I need to upload some school and alumni photos, so I sure could use some help. I am Not computer proficient.  Thank you.

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

  • When using Iphoto to import photo from existing folder, what happens if I delete the photo in Iphoto ? Will the original file in the folder be deleted too?

When using Iphoto to import photo from existing folder to iphoto, what happens if:
    1. I delete that photo in iphoto? will the original file in the folder be deleted too ?
    2.  when importing, does the hard disk store 2 versions of the photo, hence occupying additional space in the harddisk?

1 - no  --  iPhoto only manages fiel within the iPhoto library - it does not ever do anything with files outside the library
2 - No idea what you are asking - by default (and strongly recommended) iPhoto copies the original to the iPhoto library and you delete the source file outside the iPhoto library - iPhoto alwasy has at least two versions of every photo and some times three - it always have the original, a thumbnail and once a photo is modified a preview - this is not optional - if it is not what you want then iPhoto is not the correct progrtam to be using for phopto management

  • I would like to move my photos in iPhoto to my NAS?

I would like to move my photos in iPhoto to my NAS.
Some state simply drag and drop it then point iPhoto to the new Location
quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive
    Some say it isn't possible.
Unless the NAS is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) you will not be able to run the iPhoto library on it
I am not particularly fussed about other users seeing it, I just want it off my iMac?  I am using iphoto 9.5.1.  its a synology DS213J NAS.
    thanks,
ooops think i am in the wrong section, if someone can move it then great. apologies.

for anyone else reading this, this is what I was told in the other forum.
iPhoto is problematic with referenced original files, because iphoto has no tools to recover from broken references, but Aperture has been designed to handle referenced images and libraries distributed across several drives well and has tools to fix broken references.
But both, iPhoto and Aperture, are not network databases.
Apple says:  Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library
Putting your originals on a network storage will make Aperture slower, and you are risking library corruption by transmission errors. The safest and option, and the solution with the quickest access to your original files will be a directly connected drive.

  • What is the best way to scan and sort old photos in iPhoto

What is the best way to scan and sort old photos in iPhoto?  They do not have digital dates.

    Hey Chicago Sue,
Once you scan them and have them on your desktop. You should use Automator and assign the common IPTC tags to the images, so that when you do import them into iPhoto, they get recorded.
Here is an example of an action in Automator:

  • I can't find most of my photos in iPhoto

    MacPro 3.1, OSX 10.6.8, iPhoto 7.1.5
I had connected my iPod Touch to my MacPro to upload photos to iPhoto.  It transferred some photos, but then with 8 left to do it didn't progress any further, and finally gave me a bunch of error messages. I tried closing and reopening iPhoto, and got a message that the computer couldn't open iPhoto because it couldn't find my iPhoto library.  I did a search and found that I had an iPhoto library in my "Pictures" folder, but when I selected that to open, what opened was a very old library with only a few pictures from early 2011.  I had hundreds of photos and albums since then, but none of them show up.  Is there a way of getting back my photos?  If that isn't possible, I do have a backup of my hard drive (a cloned copy using SuperDuper) on a separate external drive - when I boot up from that drive, my most recently saved iPhotos are all there.  Is there a way I can import the iPhoto library from my backup drive to my main computer drive?  I tried opening iPhoto from my main drive using the iPhoto library from the backup drive (by opening iPhoto with the option key held down, and then selecting the iPhoto library on the backup drive), but what opened was just the very old library.
Today I discovered something that may or may not be related.  When I opened my computer to add something to iCal, iCal was nowhere to be found.  It had always been in my Applications folder, and I have never had a problem with it before.  I did a spotlight search for iCal, and nothing showed up.  I noticed that I did have an iCal icon in the applications folder of the backup drive, but when I started up from the backup drive and tried to open iCal, I got a message that the application had unexpectedly quit.  I don't look at iCal frequently, so am not sure if this happened at the same time that I lost my iPhoto library, or afterwards.
In any case, it's rather disconcerting.

Thanks for the response.  I had tried that, and no, it didn't open up my missing albums and pictures. Very strange. I finally went to Apple support and paid $19 for single incident support - after some preliminary attempts, the support person took over my computer and then we spent over two hours trying all kinds of things.  And yes, we did finally get the pictures back, but we did so many things that I can't really say how we did it !
But again, thanks for the response.  Still haven't been able to find my missing iCal (tried reloading the 10.6.8 update combo from the Apple website, but that didn't relaod the application.  We found all the iCal info that's still on the computer, but not the application itself).
