Stock fan problems, Arctic Cooling Silencer Ultra 64 and MSI Neo4 Platinum

Hi,
A few days ago, the stock-fan of my Amd-64 CPU(+3000) started to running at 4500-5000 rpm at default speed, when before it had always done at 3000-3300. (official maximum stock amd-fan speed I think). To avoid so high and noisy default speeds, I have activated “Smart CPU Fan Target” in Bios to keep CPU under 50 º C and obviously now speeds are much lower. It helps to diminish the noise and to minimize the fatigue of fan, but obviously CPU run hotter. Even though I think it is in a safe range of temps (40 – 50 ºC). Nevertheless I’m worried about the odd behaviour of stock fan and what could happen in the future...
I wonder what could be wrong, cpu-fan, motherboard regulation cpu-fan system.
NB fan seems to work as always, running at 5000 rpm as ever (speed regulated by fan-mate 2). Not change is noted about.
I should aprecciate any suggestion about what is wrong ?
On the other hand, I have thought to substitute the stock-heatsink+fan by Arctic Cooling Silencer Ultra 64. But I have some doubts about it.
Does it fit in a Neo4 MB ?
I wonder if is possible to control the speed of Arctic Cooling Silencer Ultra 64 (not TC model) by Bios or under Windows via Core-Center as stock-cpu-fan is?

Thanks for the idea, but I think that it would be more prudent to wait for views about, of some owner of cpu-cooler-fan (thermal regulated or not), witch being set to start to turning at very low revolutions (ie:0--500) when computer power on.

I use the small Zalman Fan Control for this one to regulate it down to 3200 rpm. Measured with a temp probe the temp of the northbridge is now at 45 to 50 degrees C. I think thats a good compromise between heat and noise.
Yes, excuse me, at first I had misunderstood you. I interpreted that your cpu-fan was unable to turn under 2000 revolutions. I means only could be regulated between 2000 and 2300 rpm. But now, I'm quite sure what you means. Your tell me that the speed of the your cpu-fan is adjustable in all its range, from 0 to 2300, only that when it turns at least of 2000, the rpm reader programs are unable to report the speed. ok?

Thank you for your advice, I already knew it was a poor performer compared to what you refer me, but, firstly, I have a chronic immune illness due which I suffer some disabilities that makes difficult to do manual labours myself . Second I use my computer for office-surfing-programming purposes. So my power needs are low, -I own a +3000 amd-64-, compared to most of you, I think (I’m not doing over clocking too).
To sum up, I’m going to pick this cooler (fan+heatsink) because is as easy of installing as stock one, enough to cool my cpu... (slightly better than stock one), and very cheap in my country. There is no more reasons to choose it.

Problems with Cool N Quiet and MSI Live Update

I have had my K8T NEO FISR2 motherboard for a year and generally I have been very happy with it. However, I have just installed Full Spectrum Warrior (about 3 weeks ago ) and Nortons Internet Suite 2005 and both installations resulted in the same error message when I boot up.
The error message is that MSI Live Update isn't started up, and also that Cool N quite is not supported on my motherboard which is obviously rubbish.
I have done a complete re-install of the Live Update and Cool N quite and that fixes it, and then it seems to come back a day later.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I stopped using the MSI software completely. Also got lots of troubles with it. MSi Live Update for example stops the audio drivers working while checking their revision and so on, so my advice is to use it only if needed once in a while and not loading it together with Windows.

Arctic Cooler Silencer 1 for Radeon 9800

Anyone know where I can find a Arctic Cooler Silencer 1 for Radeon 9800? Or do you know if the Acceleron s2 will fit in a G4 Sawtooth with this v card?

Hi-
Just don't let the fan get dirty. The 9800 is a hot card, and too much heat is bad. Since you also have a processor upgrade, you are adding lots of heat. The heat also affects the PSU, because it is all removed through the PSU, and hot air doesn't cool well. Hot PSU's, don't produce good power.
Another cooling option (and a good one) is a PCI slot fan that exhausts to the outside of the tower.
This Thermaltake has really good airflow, and will help cool your entire system.

MSI NEO4 Platinum + DUAL CORE detection problem after soft reboot

I just build a new AMD dual core system (4800+) and it consistently fails to detect the second core after a soft reboot from windows Xp. The MSI NEO4 Platinum came pre-flashed with the latest bios version 1.B. If power off or use the reset button I can consistently get it to detect both processors. Anyone else having this problem? Or know of a solution?

Hi, I did a upgrade from a 3200 venice to a Opty 165.[This is a different situation than your new build] I deleted the uniprocessor ACPI from the device manager before I removed the old cpu. It was a bit weird for me in that at first the bios saw it as a 165 dual core then the next time it would come up as single core. It went back and forth a few times between single and dual core in bios. I tinkered with a few things in the bios but not really sure if it helped but it eventualy stayed as dual core in bios and showes as dual core in windows. I have my MPS table version set to 1.4 in bios [ but it was this before change in cpu] also my IOAPIC is now greyed out [unable to change it, but it wasn't before] - both these are in Advanced bios features. In power management I have the ACPI standby state set to auto. Hope some of this might help you.

CPU cooler that works with K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI motherboard

I have read that some say the Zalman interferes on this board with the 1, and 2 ram slots, is this true? I'm using the 3500 Winchester CPU.
Does someone have a part number if the Zalman is; a) the best, and b) clears properly.
Also I see everyone talking about Artic Silver 5. What does the"5" mean? I have Artic Silver that I have been using for about 2 years, but there iis no designation "5". Do I need the new stuff?

I don’t know muck about artic silver, but I have a comment on the cpu-cooler question.
I recently bought a K8N SLI Platinum, which has an almost identical layout as the Neo4 Platinum. I use a Termalright XP 120 cooler which according to there webpage does not fit on this board. But I didn’t had much problem at all! It is tight with the first ram slot thaw, and with a memory just a few millimetres higher than mine it wouldn’t fit (I use TwinMOS PC3200).
Unfortunately, I don’t know if it’s a similar situation with the Zalman coolers, but I really like to recommend the XP120 (or even XP80) anyway. It keeps my cpu (althorn 3000+) at almost the same temp as the sounding system, during normal use. And since you are free to put any fan you like, you have a very good start making your system really quiet.

CPU temp with Zalman9700 and MSI P965 Platinum ?

I must say, i was a little confused when i installed the board because there was 2 CPU fan slots, one with 4 pins and one with
3. I have a Zalman CNPS 9700 LED, very nice fan btw. Shoulden this fan be controled by the CPU automaticly ? i do have a
fan regulator in the end of the wire outside the cabinet. I have it on the bag side of the computer case so i can turn it op and
down. But i think i read someware that it could be controled automaticly. Is that right ?
And what about the 3 and 4 pins CPU fan slots on the board. Right now i cant remember in witch of the 3 or 4 slot i installed
the fan in to. But anybody know witch slot is the right one for my CPU fan ?

My case has three 120mm case fan in addition to the 120mm power supply and the Zalman fan, five of them altogether. The Antec P180 case has separate compartment for the hard drives and the power supply, which made a big difference from the temperature's perspective. The box also has four hard drives and I do not OC; I did try, but I didn't see much of a difference and shut it off.

PCI 2.0 Express and MSI 975X Platinum-PE

Just wondering if my MSI 975X Platinum-PE SKT775 motherboard will take the ATI 4800 series graphics cards which require a pci-express 2.0 slot or not. Or am I confined to looking for the old 1.0 series ones instead. Any guidance would be appreciatied.

It should work alright.
The only "older chipsets" that have problems, to my knowledge, with PCIe 2.0 vga cards are VIA and SIS chipsets.
Yours is Intel and the 48xx should work on that board.

FX5900 Ultra and MSI Media Center Problems

Hi,
I've just got an MSI GeForce 5900 Ultra VTD256 card which came with MSI Media Center Deluxe II. However, when I try to install it, it starts the install and then gives the error "This is not a qualified MSI system".
Can you offer any help?

I wouldn't know on that as I have a MSI board and vid card.I do have a media center from nVidia.If you update the drivers from nVidia, you should get theirs.Unless I am thinking of a different media center.

Problems with Z68a-gd55 g3 and msi 660 gtx oc ed.

Bought the 660gtx card last week and have been pulling my hair since.. been getting the no post problem with the new card as some other ppl here I see.
from what I gather it's a bios update which is making the combo of these cards to work properly the msi liveupdate took me up to n.70 and that didn't help after reading a couple of posts here i found out about the beta updates for my bios.
Beeing a bit new when it comes to flashing I thought I'd make myself sure at what update to use.
In another post the tip was using .n88 is it still the best to use?

yes it's sandy bridge however I seem to do something wrong with the bios update. using the MSI Forum HQ USB Flashing Tool and ran it got the .n88 on there set the bios to boot from it, got a press any key to boot from usb key then it shoot directly to win logo and starts windows.
Running the usb flashing tool program again and it says I got the BIOS Version: VN.8B8 (aka Version: V23.8B8) and a restart later it reverts back to BIOS Version: VN.7 (aka Version: V23.7)
First time I shut down windows after it started and did a clearcmos.
I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong.

almost forgot second time I tried I updates as before and didn't do a clearcmos just turned off the computer plugged the 660 gtx in and started this time I got 2 beeps from mainboard then nothing. then silence for a while then two beeps again until I turned off the computer put my old 250 gts back in and the bois had reverted back to VN.7 again.
without the update and the 660 gtx the update fans running hd runs a bit then nothing btw.

Problem with SATA hard discs and MSI motherboards (could it be the SATA cable)

I have two systems with a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250620AS 250GB Serial ATA (3.0Gb/s)
hard disk.
One system has a P965 Neo and the other has a PN6 SLI motherboard.
I am having issues in that the OS seems to install properly but after a few days the users gets on hd type problems.
One users workstation the hard drive would not boot. Tried everything to get it to work from F8 but it would get stuck in the window flash screen with the bottom moving accross the screen.
The other just kept giving the user disk type errors with blue screens.
I since have replaced P965 mobos hd with a pata. Its only been running for a day not sure if that solved it.
The other machine I put the drive into another machine I was building and it found errors and fixed them and booted up. This same hd would not work at all in the prior system so I am RMAing that board. Even a PATA would not finish xp installation with that MOBO.
I am not sure but I have a feeling that the SATA cables may be the cause of this type of problem. These are SATA2 drives. I tend to think you have to use better quality drive cables when using these.
Those things are so flimsy as they are. I think some cables are better then others. Whos the idiot that designed those things?
MSI only gives you one sata cable. My dvd uses one as well.
Has anyone else had issues using the newer faster drives?
I build a lot of machines but have only been building SATA drives for the past 6 months. These are the first to use this seagate 16 mb drive. When SATA first came out I had these types of issues so avoided using them for over a year. Now I would like to continue using them. But these cables appear to have connection issues.

Its happening to two different computers with 2 alike drives. I have 2 other drives not even opened yet. It does appear to be a cable issue however, I don't think I will take the chance and keep the 2 unopened drives as that would be even more risky. I am already stuck with 2.
These drives seem to be very fast at least. But those cheap sata cables are not too comforting.

5950 Ultra and MSI Drivers 7122

I have just installed the new drivers v7122 from the MSI website and when i install the Capture drivers v3.08 i get the BSOD during installation.
Has anyone had the same problem and does anyone know how to fix this problem as i have never had any problems untill i installed driver v7122.

You'd have to ask nVidia on that one.
I can speculate that since each series for drivers is released when a new chipset arrives to market. Those changes or enhancements to accomodate the new GPU, often cause problems for older ones.

Always stick to the drivers that were released for the card, or within that genre, unless a game or app specifically states you must have a certain driver, otherwise there is no reason to update.
On the other hand, if you haven't uninstalled the drivers properly, then that could be part, or all of your problem.
I always go directly to nVidia for nVidia Drivers

Problem with K9N6SGM-V MOBO and MSI NX800GT -TD256EH

This is my new graphic card and when I use windows it seem no problem but when i start play game it will hang and have to reset the PC.
I only tried on DOTA allstar and lineage 2.

Problem with Dual Core Center and MSI 3870

The VGA works well, the problem is that AFTER i installed it the Dual Core Center stoped to work!!
Installed the dotnetfix again but no avail, still doesn't work.
And i know that happened after installed the VGA, so i believe that must be part of the problem.

MSI Neo4 Platinum chipset fan and SpeedFan

is there anyway to get SpeedFan to adjust the speed the Northbridge chipset? I can see the speed but cannot adjust it.

Where are you getting the tempreading? The tempreading in Speedfan must be wrong because, with fan it says 10-12 Celcius wich could be around 30 real degrees. If YOU are reading 30 (fake) degrees i think you got somewhat more. 80-90 or so... I tried unplugging my fan for 5 minutes and after that you couldnt put a finger on the small heatsink around the fan without getting burned.

AGP Driver Problem with my ms-6585 and msi-ti4200 128 8x

hi all ! Hope i'll get an reply cause this is bugging me since i have my board. I'm having trouble with all the AGP drivers for the sis chipset. Seems to stuck after the win2000 (sp3) loading. Just before you enter you password. the screen just lock up. I can't do anything besides loading in safe mode. When i uninstall the driver, everything returns to normal.
here's my system :
win2000 sp3
pIV 2.53
Mobo is a MSI 648 MAX sis (ms-6585)
GFX is a msi ti-4200 128mo 8x
512RAM DDR333
PSupply is a 300w
not sure of the bios version, but it's easy to get. let me know if you need it.

Downoad the latest VIA (KT600) chipset Hyperion driver from http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=420&OSID=1&CatID=1070
Put the ATI card back in. Run the uninstall of the ATI card and run Driver Cleaner.
Install the VIA chipset driver.
Install the FX5700 card.
Install the nvidia VGA driver, its this one http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.16_whql.html
