Stoke on a shape is jagged CS5

I create a lot of 'cartoon type" images in photoshop using Stroke. After upgrading to from CS2 to CS5 I noticed that when I use stroke to outline my images, the stroke is jagged. This was not an issue in CS2. I have pasted an image below with just a simple shape. The shape is smooth, the stroke is jagged.
This below image is a bit small but you can see the difference in Stroke, the shoe from CS2 is smooth, the mountain from CS5 is jagged.

I don't mean to be argumentative, but the Stroke layer style hasn't changed in (low) quality from what I can see since time began.  It's something Adobe really ought to fix.
Show the same part of the same image with both applications and you'll see there's no perceptible difference between the versions (I just did that to be sure).
One workaround trick is that you can use an outer glow to help the edge smoothness.  See also: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4564174#4564174

  • Help please, I can only see outlines when I use the shape tool in CS5 ?

    When I open action script 2 or 3 in CS5, and draw a rectangle or any shape, I can only see outlines? The problem IS NOT the outlines button that is in the layers palet as I have changed this many times and it has mad no difference and the problem IS NOT because I have selected no fill or colour for the shape.
    If you want to see a screenshot of my computer follow this link as I have exactly the same problem http://forums.adobe.com/message/2927153
    BUT interestingly, when I have opened someone elses .fla work document, I can draw and fill shapes without a problem, which makes me wonder whether I am missing some basis setting when I start with my own new document ??
    Any help would be much appreciated. I am fairly conversant with Photoshop but a newbie in Flash

    I've learned something new since that posting you point to that might help--it has the same effect as using the outline tool on the layer, but globally.  In the main menu select View -> Preview Mode -> and anything except Outlines.

  • How do I convert a stoke to a shape?

    I have a 1pt stoke around a logo. How do i make the stoke a shape so it no longer is treated as a stoke when i scale the logo or recolour it.
    cheers

    i would select the logo and the stroke together.  group them (ctrl+g on pc).  then select the grouped image.  then to go "object" and select "expand."

  • Illustrator vector shapes become jagged in flash

    does anyone know why when importing vector shapes from
    illustrator into flash the shapes become very jagged when the swf
    file is published?
    thanks

    Hi R-Designer,
    The jagged edges are caused by the import process in Flash.
    When it
    encounters complex fills or lines it can't directly handle,
    it converts them
    to bitmaps. Illustrator will also sometimes do this when
    exporting for
    Flash. Unfortunately, the only way to deal with this is to
    reduce the
    complexity of your image (especially fills or fancy lines) or
    exporting the
    whole thing as a high-res bitmap.

  • Creating Gradient-filled shapes via JSFL CS5.5?

    I'm trying to use JSFL to create a number of oval shapes on a layer, that have a gradient fill applied to them.  I've stripped down the JSFL to very bare bones which I will post here:
    var flashDoc = fl.getDocumentDOM();
    var flashLib = flashDoc.library;
    var flashTimeline = flashDoc.getTimeline();
    // Set fill color for all shapes
    var fill = flashDoc.getCustomFill();
    fill.style = "radialGradient";
    fill.color = "#FFFFFF";    // For some reason if I don't assign at least *something* here, the color array doesn't work and I get fully black shapes
    fill.colorArray = ["#0033CC", "#FFFFFF"];
    fill.posArray = [0, 255];
    fill.focalPoint = 0;
    fill.linearRGB = true;
    flashDoc.setCustomFill( fill );
    for( var i = 0; i < 10; ++i )
        var x = Math.random() * 500;
        var y = Math.random() * 400;
        var radius = Math.random() * 25 + 25;
        var left = x - radius;
        var top = y - radius;
        var right = x + radius;
        var bottom = y + radius;
        flashDoc.addNewOval( {left:left, top:top, right:right, bottom:bottom}, false, true );
    When I run this script I do not get the results I'm expecting.  I get a number of oval shapes that all share the same gradient transform, i.e., each shape only gets part of the gradient.  The documentation says this function should be equivalent to using the draw oval tool, yet when you use that tool each oval you draw is associated with its own gradient transform.
    My Questions:
    1. Am I missing a piece here to create shapes each with their own gradient transform?
    2. Is it a bug that I have to set something into fill.color, even though I'm supplying a color array?  If I set nothing there, all the shapes will draw in full black.
    3. Is there a way to specify gradient colors that include alpha?
    Thanks for your time.

    Yep, that made the rest of my whole day!! Works excelllent in the demo, and i'm just replacing all the  Image<->Triangle commands. Wonderfulll & thanks a lot, LitDev. (enjoint the sb sample in your Test-DL :-))

    GraphicsWindow.Clear()
    GraphicsWindow.DrawImage("ImageList1", 0,0)

  • Vector shapes printed jagged - or is it me?

    http://prosol1.com/mw_images/pen_tool_lines.pdf
    i created the above in ill CS4 [i created the above PDF for you to see].  i printed it direct from the ill file and the curves are not what i thought they would be.  but then again, maybe it's because of the printer we use?
    we use an HP 2550 color laser printer.  maybe this printer can't handle the pen tool vector shapes?  am i not making the shapes the proper way to insure they are smooth when printed?  or is it the printer?
    thanks - mike
    is there

    Is your printer a postscript printer? What resolutions does it support? What is its max resolution?
    If it is a Postscript printer check the settings in Advanced of the print dialog.

  • Saving placeholder shape in InDesign CS5

    I have created an irregular placeholder shape for the images in a document I'm creating. I don't believe that the shape can be saved in object styles, but is there a sort of gallery or something that I can save this placeholder in so that it doesn't need to be recreated each time or must the frame be copied and pasted? Here's a sample of the shape.

    Snippets are the way to go.

  • How do I reset my shape tools in CS5?

    All of my shapes look like I skewed them. I can't draw a perfect circle or square using my tools. They look like this.
    Additionally, my cursor has a vertical line with an arrow to the side of it whenever I'm about to draw a shape. Did I accidentally adjust a setting of which I'm just completely unaware?

    Looks like the perspective grid is on. Turn it off in the View menu.

  • Weird recurring shapes in Photoshop CS5

    Hi everyone,
    I’m aware that this might be a bug in PS, but wanted to ask anyway if you’ve seen something similar. Every few months it happens on one of the Mac Pros that Photoshop starts to display weird recurring shapes, that are somewhat rectangular. At first I thought that this might just be a display problem and that it’s likely caused by the use of OpenGL accelaration within PS. But these display errors actually get saved to file! Here are some examples: The green dot is intended, the rectangular background shapes not. Even when hiding layers it happens. There should not be any rectangular shapes at all, just the hand and the coastline/water.

  • How to draw a proper spiral shape in InDesign CS5?

    I am facing problem with drawing spiral shapes in InDesign! I cannot figure out how to make a perfect spiral!
    Could you please figure a way out for it?
    Thank You,
    Ankit Tanna.

    Indesign doesn't have a tool to directly do it...........
    If you have Illustrator , Use spiral tool in Illustrtaor and then copy and paste the path in Indesign

  • How can i change the perspective of this shape i made (cs5)?

    i made a shape and i want to change the perspective so it can look like mat on the ground. is it possible?    eg)  http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/5120/thitothis.jpg
    i can do with rectangles easily, but after ive added the decoration to the mat from a birds eye view, idk how to do it.
    thanks

    Convert it to a symbol and use perspective grid. There are lots of tutorials on the feature, you could try http://fridays.mordy.com or http://blogs.adobe.com/infiniteresolution/2010/05/drawing_in_perspective_using_a.html

  • CS4 to CS5: Jagged edges and color shift

    Hello, world!
    I have a problem when I try to open Flash CS4 file in CS5. In the workspace, the edges of shapes become jagged, and the colors shift.
    But when I export the image as PNG with CS5, everything looks normal. What is causing this?

    In the View menu, where is your Preview Mode set?

  • Define Custom Shape doesn't work in Photoshop CS5

    It seems to be impossible to Define Custom Shape in Photoshop CS5. This option in Edit menu always remains grayed out...
    Can anyone check and see if this is the case in your own installation of the program?
    Very same procedure works in Photoshop CS4 just fine, but not in CS5...

    Hi Fox,
    I think you might just have found a bug there. I've reported it upstairs.

  • Jagged Edges on Text & Shape Layers

    Hi there,
    I've been experimenting with creating 3D logos, text and shape layers with AE CS6 by using the "shatter" effect. I have noticed that curved letters (like "S") or curved shapes are jagged, even when rendered in full quality (see attached image).
    Is this due to a setting in After Effects? How can I smooth this? I have experimented with Ray Trace as an alternative way to extrude, but with only 8GB of RAM I am unable to render out sufficiently high quality 3D text or layers in enough time.
    Thanks.

    It's a limitation in the technique you are employing. As Rick said, make the text as big as you possibly can, then scale it down again after the effect is applied.

  • InDesign CS5 - Text won't align with shape

    I've created shapes in InDesign CS5 and then added text boxes (separate elements).  When I try to align the text and the shape, the text box acts as if the wrap function is on and the text is not visible.  I've checked and the settings for both the shape and the text box are set to "no wrap."
    I've tried searching for a solution online, but the answers I get are mostly related to wrapping text around a shape or other non-related issues.

    Yes - I did that first, thinking I was "hiding" the text.  But the text is in front...
    The advice by Willi Adelberger helped - putting the text directly into the shape seems to be working, though I noticed that the text is still not quite aligned correctly...
