Stolen 30GB. No way to report serial number to Itunes.

I'm 47. Just reported to police that my 30GB was stolen out of my car. I'm very surprised and disappointed that there is not a way to advise Apple of my serial number so the thief can not assume new ownership, buy downloads, etc. and go on with his filthy life. Sure, I have all my tunes, etc. in my computer, so the hassle to re-load everything is not an issue. The issue is that there is no way to protect one's ipod. Therefore, I'm not sure if I'll buy another. Furthermore, I assume if I do buy another, Itunes will work with it without any issues?
I hope my post is not screened and deleted by Itune staff to avoid letting other Ipod customers know this. Again, I'm 47, got all receipts. Not a kid looking for anything free.

You aren't the first to suggest this, but you have to realise how many iPods are stolen worldwide every year. And what about those that are just lost? What about those that are legitimately sold on places such as eBay? What about ones that are given away (such as me giving an older iPod to another member of my family to use on a different computer)?
And what about those that are just lost? What about those that are legitimately sold on places such as eBay? What about ones that are given away (such as me giving an older iPod to another member of my family to use on a different computer)?
What about having your computer hacked and someone intentionally disabling your iPod just for the fun of it?
What about those mischievous folks who are in dispute with someone else and who want to cause trouble for others by having their iPods disabled? You know the kind of thing, you give an iPod to your boy/girlfriend as a present, then split up and......well you know where I'm going with this.
I understand the principle behind what you are saying, but the possibilities of abusing a system like you suggest are endless, and if Apple were to implement this procedure it would be an administrative and logistical nightmare, not to mention any legal ramifications.

Hi, I have recently had my 2 ipod touches stolen and need to find the serial numbers. Does anyone know if itunes stores this informatiom?

    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.

My Ipad was stolen, how do I get my serial number so I can lock it?

The serial number will be located in the box the device came in.
However, having the serial number will not help you lock it.
The only way to lock it would have been if you set up Find My iPad on iCloud.com and the iPad.
you could then go to iCloud.com and lock it from the "Find my iPhone" section of the website.

The easiest way to find your serial number is this Open Itunes...click help... run diagnostics.....(tick or untick as necessary) so that you just have ticked the last two,  device connectivity and device sync.  run these tests. it will say no ipod/ipad found but will give results of test....scroll down to bottom of results... here you will find the serial number of your last attached devices.

If you turned on Settings > iCloud > Find My iPad before it was stolen you can use the steps under "If Find My iPhone is enabled on your missing device" in the following link: If your iPhone, iPad, user iPod touch is lost or stolen - Apple Support
If you had not turned on Find My iPad before it was lost, there isn't a way to locate it. There are some suggestions in the "If Find My iPhone isn't enabled" section near the bottom regarding changing passwords and other steps.

  • Is there anyway to get serial number from itunes for my stolen ipod?

Help.. My ipod 5th gen was stolen..is there anyway to get the Serial Number off itunes??

Yes, if you have any backups on file.  If you are using windows, go to edit>preferences, if on a mac, go to itunes>preferences.
When you are in the preferences page, choose the device tab.
Look for a backup of the ipod, if there is, you can just hover your mouse over the backup, dont click or anything, but after a moment or two, a little box will pop up with you serial number.

Any way to find serial number from find my iphone?
We have about 2 dozen or so devices out in the field but I just got notice that a new iCloud account was added to a device registered for my company. The name is unknown to any of us in IT and Find My iPhone reveals that it is at a strange location. Any way to find out WHICH device it is, besides "David's iPad"? And if you have an iPad2 would it say, "iPad 2?" or still iPad?

Any way to find serial number from find my iphone?
    No.
And if you have an iPad2 would it say, "iPad 2?" or still iPad?
It would say whatever the device has been named as by the person who set it up.

  • Finding iPad Serial Number in iTunes Without Being Connected

I recently lost my iPad.  I'm trying to provide the authorities and airlines any means by which to identify it, serial number being the best way.  Is there a way that I can retrieve the serial number from iTunes without having the iPad connected to my computer?

And all of the devices that I have registered are there.
